The Sickly Girl Becomes a Scum Alpha - Chapter 4
Chu Ci rested her head weakly on the table, trying to figure out how to get out of this situation, when a windbreaker still warm from Jian Sui’s body was placed on her shoulders.
She looked back in surprise at Jian Sui, who was only wearing a thin dress.
Jian Sui was wearing even less than she was but had still given her coat away. She was indeed the kindhearted, little angel Omega protagonist of the original novel!
Touched, Chu Ci felt even more convinced that what she was doing was right. A good person shouldn’t have to suffer and have a miserable life like they did in the book.
“Cough, cough!”
She covered her mouth and let out a small cough, trying to suppress the tickle in her throat. She handed the windbreaker back to Jian Sui. “You wear it. My clothes are thick. I’m fine.”
“It will get colder at night. I’m okay.”
Jian Sui looked at Chu Ci’s pale face. She felt that Chu Ci was just as her name suggested (ci means porcelain), as if she would break if someone touched her. If she truly stayed in this ancestral hall all night in the chilly spring weather, there was no telling what would happen to her.
Oh, right. Night.
They couldn’t leave until they were finished copying. Chu Ci pursed her lips. She had to think of a way out quickly.
Fortunately, her phone hadn’t been confiscated yet. She decided to put the windbreaker issue aside for now and pulled out her phone. She scrolled through the original host’s contact list. Most of the people were the same ones she had seen last night, and the others were also mentioned in the novel. They were all the original host’s low-life friends.
Finding Cao Xi’s name, Chu Ci called her directly.
Cao Xi, who had just pulled an all-nighter, was clearly not yet awake. Her hoarse voice was thick with sleepiness. “What’s up, big shot?”
“The old man punished me. I have to copy the family rules two hundred times. You guys better think of a way to get it done and bring it to me. Write neatly and be quick. I’m locked in the ancestral hall, and I do not want to spend the night here.”
Mimicking the original host’s tone, Chu Ci assigned the difficult task to Cao Xi.
“What the heck? Your old man actually punished you for that?!” On the other end, Cao Xi instantly woke up. “Two hundred times?! And locked in the ancestral hall?”
“Stop repeating me. Hurry up and get me out of here.”
After Chu Ci finished, Cao Xi responded and hung up the phone.
Letting out a sigh of relief, Chu Ci looked at her phone. At least the plot had just started. Although Cao Xi and her group were also spoiled and useless heirs, they hadn’t yet gone down a criminal path, and they all looked up to the original host. The situation wasn’t too bad.
With her plan in motion, she just had to wait for Cao Xi and her gang to finish copying the rules and rescue them. Silence settled over the ancestral hall. The two of them sat, not speaking.
Chu Ci’s eyes were unfocused as she thought about the impossible plotline. A sense of regret filled her. It was a shame. She might have to die again, and she wouldn’t get to see her parents.
Knowing that this was the likely outcome, she couldn’t bring herself to become the deranged person the original host was, using the lives of Jian Sui and others to gain a healthy life for herself. She simply couldn’t do it.
In her mind, the Torment and Abuse System, which had sensed Chu Ci’s decision to give up, started yelling curses. The cold, mechanical voice couldn’t hide its panic.
[What kind of host just gives up from the get-go?! You have to at least put up a fight! We can still negotiate! It’s just the beginning! You haven’t even used my golden finger yet! Snap out of it! [Wake up.jpg]]
It was so flustered that it was even using memes. If the system had a physical body, it would have grabbed Chu Ci’s shoulders and shaken her brains into place.
“Cough, be calm.”
Chu Ci’s head ached from the noise, and she couldn’t help but speak.
The silence was instant. Jian Sui looked around, saw no one else, and after a moment of confusion, nodded slowly. “I will be calm.”
Chu Ci was also momentarily stunned. Then she played along, nodding.
Silence returned to the ancestral hall.
[…You can communicate with me in your mind. You don’t have to talk out loud.]
The system refused to give up and continued to try and persuade Chu Ci. [This is just a novel world. It’s meant to be this way. You are just following its nature. Respecting the original plot is also a virtue!!]
By the end, the cold mechanical voice even had a hint of emotion.
[Then why do you need a host to complete the mission? Wouldn’t it be easier to just have a robot run through the plot?]
Chu Ci retorted in her mind.
The system was left speechless. It seemed to be trying to find a good reason, but in the end, it only made a static sound. After that, no matter how many times Chu Ci called it, it remained as silent as a dog.
The more the system acted this way, the more Chu Ci began to question the most basic things: Where did the system come from? What was its purpose? Why was it so fixated on making her follow this so-called plot?
The questions piled up, and Chu Ci, who had only initially resisted because she didn’t want to do evil, became even more determined to resist to the very end. Whatever this system was, it wasn’t a good thing.
Chu Ci was thinking all this in her mind, but she overlooked one thing: The Torment and Abuse System could sense every thought she had.
So, at that moment, the system, which was silently listening to Chu Ci speculate about how evil it was, just: “…muttering to itself… quietly gives you a virtual middle finger.”
Time ticked by in the ancestral hall. As the afternoon sunlight peeked through the door crack, the cold feeling lessened significantly. But there was still one problem.
A sudden rumble echoed in the silent hall. Jian Sui, who was copying the family rules, looked up and her gaze landed on Chu Ci’s stomach.
Chu Ci’s face flushed. While she didn’t want to admit it, she couldn’t possibly say that one of the ancestors’ spirits on the plaques was hungry!
“I’ll order some takeout. What do you want?”
Chu Ci pulled out her phone as if nothing had happened, asking Jian Sui what she wanted to eat.
“You can’t order takeout here,” Jian Sui reminded her kindly. There was no way for ordinary delivery services to enter a high-end residential area like this.
“Oh, right.”
Chu Ci quietly put her phone back on the table. She had forgotten that she didn’t even know how to order takeout, so Jian Sui’s words had saved her.
So, what should she do now?
She dialed Cao Xi’s number again.
“If you’re not done yet, bring me two meals first. Don’t use the front gate. Climb over the back wall. I’m in the ancestral hall.”
Cao Xi: “…Dammit, I’m so busy!!”
Chu Ci hung up on Cao Xi’s curses. “The food will be here soon. Just hold on for a bit.”
Jian Sui nodded uncertainly, not quite sure if Chu Ci was talking to her or her own stomach.
After comforting Jian Sui, Chu Ci put her head on the table again, gently rubbing her stomach. She was so hungry~
Yesterday’s events had left Chu Ci exhausted. She had only slept a few hours, and now the hunger was making her feel even more drowsy. She was tired, sleepy, and hungry, which made her feel more and more miserable. She sniffled softly and fell asleep on the table without realizing it.
The scratching of the pen on paper stopped. Jian Sui looked at the motionless Chu Ci and, after a moment of hesitation, put down her pen.
She picked up the windbreaker from the back of the chair and covered Chu Ci with it. As she bent down, she saw Chu Ci sleeping soundly. The pale face had red marks from the table, and her eyebrows and mouth were turned down pitifully, as if she were suffering a great injustice even in her sleep.
Was this really the infamous leader of the North Sea City’s rich scions, the one who threw money around, feared nothing, and was known as a loose cannon?
Up until yesterday, the Chu Ci in Jian Sui’s mind was the one from the news headlines: leading a convoy of luxury cars through the city at night, gambling away tens of millions in one night, buying thirteen luxury cars just to top the luxury car ownership list, and spending a fortune on shopping trips with a top Omega celebrity…
The news stories were endless, painting a picture of a completely extravagant, wild, and arrogant heir. She wore exaggerated makeup and had a cold, weary, and disdainful look in her eyes, treating everyone like ants. She was ruthless, sharp, and did whatever she pleased.
That was all Jian Sui knew of her. Even when this spoiled brat announced she was going to pursue her, all Jian Sui saw in her eyes was a mischievous and malicious playfulness, a desire to conquer rather than any genuine emotion. In Chu Ci’s eyes, Jian Sui was just prey, not a person.
But now…
It seemed she was dreaming of something delicious. Chu Ci smacked her lips. Her makeup-free lips were a gentle pink, looking innocent and sweet.
