The Supporting Female Character Wakes Up and Gets a Happy Ending with the Female Lead (GL) - Chapter 11
Lin Ji pulled Ji Baixing out of the library, and after several turns, they accidentally stumbled into a park.
“Lin, Lin Ji, stop, stop for a moment…” Ji Baixing was out of breath from being pulled by Lin Ji. “I can’t breathe.”
Lin Ji looked back, stopped, and quickly caught her breath. She pointed to a nearby bench and told Ji Baixing, “Go sit and rest for a while over there.”
As soon as Ji Baixing sat down on the bench, she leaned against the armrest, panting heavily, her face flushed red. After catching her breath, she turned to look at Lin Ji: “I didn’t realize you could run so fast.”
Lin Ji didn’t know what to say, only quietly humming in response.
“Did we just run away like that? The library was left in such a mess…” Ji Baixing recovered her breath and used her hand to fan herself a few times. “You must have already contacted the person in charge for compensation, right?”
“M-hm.” Lin Ji hummed again, seeming unwilling to talk much.
Seeing this, Ji Baixing was tactful and didn’t press further. She just sat next to Lin Ji, took out a piece of scratch paper from her backpack, folded it into a fan, and occasionally fanned Lin Ji as well.
It was a hot day, and there weren’t many people in the park.
They sat on the bench under the shade of a tree, occasionally hearing a bird chirping or the ceaseless buzzing of cicadas.
The surroundings were exceptionally quiet. Ji Baixing even thought she heard a few beats of Lin Ji’s heartbeat.
“Didn’t you say you had a family dinner this week?” Lin Ji suddenly asked.
Ji Baixing was momentarily stunned, then replied: “Yes, dinner tonight.”
“So you were free to come out and tutor Li Yu during the day?” Lin Ji’s tone was somewhat relentless, giving Ji Baixing no chance to catch her breath or think of an excuse.
Ji Baixing turned her head away, avoiding Lin Ji’s gaze: “The teacher told me to help classmates with their studies when I have time.”
“He’s from another class,” Lin Ji pointed out.
“…” Ji Baixing’s eyes curved into a gentle smile again. “Ah, is that so? I thought everyone in the same grade counted as classmates?”
Lin Ji turned her head, gave Ji Baixing a complex look, and remained silent.
The atmosphere quieted down again. The two sat together silently. After an unknown amount of time passed, Ji Baixing suddenly stood up.
“I think it’s noon. Should we go eat?” Ji Baixing took the test papers Lin Ji was holding for her, put them in her backpack, and then reached out to pull Lin Ji, intending to take her to lunch.
Lin Ji, however, pulled her hand back: “No need. I’ll take a taxi home to eat later.”
“What about me?” Ji Baixing pointed to herself pitifully.
Lin Ji was truly confused by Ji Baixing: “You go home and eat too?”
“No one’s home…”
Ji Baixing saw Lin Ji slightly frown and immediately added: “The nanny is on holiday. I don’t know how to cook… and my phone, I’m out of money.”
Lin Ji: “…”
[She’s latching on, she’s latching on! This is what latching on looks like!]
[That’s strange, why is my mouth speaking on its own? Isn’t that what I do when I like a pretty girl?]
[Exactly! Just latch onto the beautiful older sister!]
“We don’t have a break next weekend, so we can’t go to the library to study then either. How about we go to your place and review together today?”
Ji Baixing took a few steps back. Scattered sunlight fell on her. She wore a soft, serene smile that always made it hard for people to say no.
“Is that okay?” Ji Baixing naturally put her hands behind her back, tilting her head slightly as she smiled at Lin Ji.
“…M-hm.” Lin Ji took out her phone and skillfully called a taxi.
In just over twenty minutes, Lin Ji brought Ji Baixing home.
“Aunt Wang, please bring an extra set of bowls and chopsticks later,” Lin Ji walked toward the kitchen after entering the house. “Bring it up to my room. My classmate and I will eat in my room.”
Aunt Wang was stunned for a moment but quickly agreed, then asked, “Should I add another dish that your classmate likes?”
“No need, she’s not picky,” Lin Ji said naturally. “But please don’t add garlic to the stir-fry today.”
“Okay, I’ll remember,” Aunt Wang finished cleaning the prepared ingredients and got ready to cook.
Lin Ji left the kitchen and found Ji Baixing in the living room: “Let’s go upstairs. We’ll be eating soon.”
“M-hm, okay.”
Ji Baixing held her backpack and quietly followed Lin Ji upstairs. She didn’t seem surprised, but her dark pupils visibly brightened when she entered Lin Ji’s room.
[Did you guys notice anything?]
[Yes, the female lead’s eyes brightened.]
[Something’s not right. They’re both girls. Why is she so excited about entering a room?]
Lin Ji paused in her step toward the room and looked back, deep in thought.
Lin Ji’s expression was clearly calm, no different from usual.
“What’s wrong?” Ji Baixing looked down at her surroundings. “Did I dirty something?”
“No,” Lin Ji said. “Just sit down for a while. I forgot to pour you water. I’ll go down quickly.”
“Okay.” Ji Baixing stood at the doorway, watching Lin Ji go downstairs. She suddenly remembered something and called out, “Could I have warm water?”
Lin Ji didn’t answer, but Ji Baixing saw Lin Ji slightly nod. She smiled softly, hugged her backpack, and walked into Lin Ji’s room with a spring in her step.
Lin Ji went downstairs, grabbed two cups, mixed one cup with hot and cold water to make it warm, then opened the fridge, took out brown sugar, and stirred it in. She poured another cup of warm water and was about to carry the two cups upstairs.
[Tsk tsk tsk, as expected of the female lead.]
[Why is the female lead so skilled at this! Tell us how many times she’s done this!]
Lin Ji stood on the stairwell, holding the two cups of water, and a question mark slowly appeared above her head.
What was Ji Baixing doing in her room?
Lin Ji suddenly lightened her steps, walking slowly up the stairs, making no sound.
One step, two steps, three steps…
She reached the room door.
Lin Ji cautiously peered into the room…
“What’s wrong? Why are you standing at the door and staring?”
Ji Baixing suddenly poked her head out from behind the door, looking confused at Lin Ji, who was standing at the entrance.
?!
Lin Ji was startled, subconsciously closing her eyes, then immediately opening them.
“Nothing. I almost spilled the water, so I stopped for a second,” Lin Ji said, walking inside with the two cups and placing the water on the table. “Both are yours.”
Ji Baixing walked over to Lin Ji and quietly looked at the two cups of water without saying anything.
Then she picked up the brown sugar water, sat down on the side, and slowly sipped it.
In no time, Aunt Wang came up with lunch. After the two ate and cleaned up, Lin Ji pulled out her small low table in the room, about to ask Ji Baixing to start reviewing together.
Ji Baixing, however, came out of the bathroom, rubbing her sleepy eyes.
“Where should I take a nap?”
Ji Baixing had specifically washed her feet, and crystal clear water droplets still clung to her legs.
Lin Ji froze for a few seconds: “Just sleep here.”
Ji Baixing glanced at Lin Ji’s large bed: “What about you?”
Lin Ji picked up her test papers and walked toward the room door: “I don’t have the habit of taking an afternoon nap. I’ll go to the study to work on problems. You can come find me in the room next door when you wake up.”
“…Okay.”
Before Lin Ji could leave, Ji Baixing had already flopped onto Lin Ji’s large bed.
Lin Ji took her papers, came back to adjust the air conditioner temperature up a little, and then quietly went to the study.
She set an alarm on her phone. Lin Ji took a sip of iced water to clear her head and started working on the problems.
She had only been working for about ten minutes when Ji Baixing came over.
But Lin Ji saw Ji Baixing occasionally rubbing her eyes and yawning: “Are you sure you’re awake? Don’t you want to sleep a little longer?”
Ji Baixing shook her head, brought her test papers over, spread them out opposite Lin Ji, and sat down in a chair across from her: “I’m not sleeping anymore. I came here to study with you, so it wouldn’t be right for me to secretly sleep while you work.”
Lin Ji was about to say something else, but seeing Ji Baixing skillfully setting an alarm and starting to work on the problems, she didn’t say anything more. She lowered her head and continued her work.
The study was silent, with only the scratching sound of pens on test papers and scratch paper, and the close breathing of the two.
But their breathing didn’t seem to disturb each other. Instead, it gradually and inexplicably settled into the same rhythm.
After an hour and forty minutes, Lin Ji stopped writing and turned off the alarm on her phone.
She had finished this mock test five minutes earlier than her own estimated time.
Ji Baixing stopped about ten minutes after her. Seeing Lin Ji stop writing, she only looked up at Lin Ji out of the corner of her eye, then lowered her head and continued writing.
Twenty minutes later, Ji Baixing stopped writing at the same time the alarm rang.
She sighed: “Phew, just in time.”
Ji Baixing handed the test paper to Lin Ji: “Should we exchange and correct them for each other?”
Lin Ji nodded.
They weren’t working on the same test papers. They exchanged the papers but didn’t look up the answers to correct each other’s work. Instead, they implicitly grabbed a fresh piece of scratch paper, set an alarm, lowered their heads, and started re-solving the problems the other person had done according to their own thinking process.
Soon, an hour and a half passed. Both looked up simultaneously and turned off the alarm before it rang.
Before Ji Baixing could speak, Lin Ji rubbed her brow and started: “Did you not fully wake up?”
“Ah?”
“The long answer question. The steps are all correct, but I don’t know why two plus eight equals twenty-eight. Although, I’m even more confused about why your final answer is still correct.”
[Protagonist’s halo. The female lead can’t lose a single extra point!]
Ji Baixing looked where Lin Ji was pointing, and a light pink blush immediately spread across her face.
“Um… I guess my brain wasn’t completely clear when I was writing,” Ji Baixing reached out to grab the test paper from Lin Ji’s hand, hiding it between her arms. “Just pretend you never saw it!”
Lin Ji looked at Ji Baixing quietly for a while, then couldn’t help but let out a small laugh, which she quickly suppressed.
When Ji Baixing looked up in surprise, she only saw Lin Ji’s lowered head and the slight upturned curve of her lips.
“So beautiful.”
Lin Ji looked up blankly, about to say something, but Ji Baixing’s phone rang.
“Hello, Dad?” Ji Baixing answered the phone and walked to the side of the study room to take the call.
“Huh? Didn’t you say dinner was around six? Isn’t it still early?”
Lin Ji heard a little bit, checked the time on her phone, and thought Ji Baixing would be leaving soon. She stood up, started packing Ji Baixing’s things, and was lost in thought when her own phone rang.
Lin Ji looked toward Ji Baixing, suddenly feeling a bad premonition.
She answered the phone on speakerphone. Before she could hear Xu Jing’s voice, she first heard a booming male voice: “Early? What’s early? Don’t you need to tidy up and pick out a nice dress?”
“What? I’m not meeting…”
Ji Baixing’s father’s voice, delayed, rang out from Lin Ji’s phone. Ji Baixing looked back at Lin Ji in disbelief.
At this moment, Xu Jing also heard another person’s voice from Lin Ji’s end: “Hello? Mumu? Are you with someone? I think I hear another girl’s voice.”
