The Supporting Female Character Wakes Up and Gets a Happy Ending with the Female Lead (GL) - Chapter 14
“It’s over.” Ji Baixing’s sighing voice came from the pitch-black storage room.
Lin Ji stood at the door, also stunned.
Ji Baixing put down the things in her hand, walked to Lin Ji’s side, and forcefully tugged at the doorknob: “Song Zhaonan just used something to pry the door open and get out. I didn’t expect it to lock you in again.”
“If I had known there was a draft, I should have wedged something against the door.”
[The supporting female character and the female lead are destined to be locked in a dark room together, hahaha.]
Lin Ji didn’t speak. She also tugged at the immovable door and then squatted down to examine the keyhole carefully.
Ji Baixing also half-squatted down, watching Lin Ji tinker: “You wouldn’t know how to pick a lock, would you?”
Lin Ji suddenly looked back and nearly bumped into Ji Baixing, who was leaning close behind her. Startled, she blinked and stood up: “No.”
Ji Baixing awkwardly touched the tip of her nose, stood up, and walked to the side. She picked up the items piled on the floor and placed them on the shelves: “Then we can only wait for someone to come and open the door. Song Zhaonan should be coming back with Teacher Luo. He just pried the door open, and worried he might have damaged the lock, so he went to find Teacher Luo.”
Lin Ji didn’t dare to walk further inside. She just stood near the door, leaning quietly against it, and only hummed faintly in response.
The storage room was large, and there weren’t too many items, mostly large objects, making the whole room feel somewhat empty. Ji Baixing was under the small window, and Lin Ji was leaning against the door on this side. There was a considerable distance between them.
“Lin Ji.” Ji Baixing suddenly called out.
Lin Ji’s head was down, her expression listless. It took her a while to answer: “M-hm?”
“Shouldn’t you have gone back to the classroom after the graduation photo? Why did you come here?” Ji Baixing put a box on the shelf, got tired, and sat on a table that had been moved in. She looked toward Lin Ji: “I heard you call my name. Were you looking for me for something?”
“…”
The storage room fell silent again. Lin Ji seemed not to have heard.
Ji Baixing waited for a while on the table, then suddenly realized something was wrong. She jumped off the table and strode towards Lin Ji: “Lin Ji?”
Lin Ji seemed to snap back at this moment. She slightly raised her head, looking at Ji Baixing, who was standing in front of her, somewhat bewildered: “M-hm, what’s wrong?”
“What do you mean, ‘what’s wrong’?” Ji Baixing, using the faint light from the small window, saw a thin layer of cold sweat on Lin Ji’s forehead and frowned slightly. “Are you not feeling well? Heatstroke?”
As Ji Baixing spoke, she reached out, loosely held Lin Ji’s hand, and took her arm, intending to move her toward the small window in the storage room.
Lin Ji, however, gently pulled her hand away, slowly squatting down against the door. Her voice sounded weak: “It’s fine. It’s not heatstroke. I’ll be fine if I squat for a bit.”
Ji Baixing stood by, feeling helpless. After struggling for a while, she also squatted down, reached out, grabbed one of Lin Ji’s hands, and slowly massaged the area of her hukou (webbing between the thumb and index finger) in her palm.
Lin Ji squatted there, leaning against the door, her other hand resting on her knee. Her eyes stared blankly ahead, while her other hand allowed Ji Baixing to knead it gently.
After an unknown period, Lin Ji’s eyes seemed to focus. She slightly turned her head, looked at Ji Baixing, and called out softly, “Ji Baixing.”
Ji Baixing looked at Lin Ji intently, reaching out to smooth the slightly messy hair on Lin Ji’s forehead: “What is it? Are you feeling better? I see you’re sweating a lot of cold sweat. Are you in pain? Just wait a little longer. Song Zhaonan should be back soon with Teacher Luo. As soon as we get out, I’ll take you to the infirmary.”
Lin Ji looked deeply at Ji Baixing, then closed her eyes, slowly sliding down the door until she was sitting on the floor.
[The supporting female character wouldn’t be afraid of the dark, would she?]
Ji Baixing saw Lin Ji sit down on the floor along the door, and she reached out, grabbed Lin Ji’s shoulders in a panic, and shook her: “Lin Ji?”
Lin Ji’s eyes were closed, her thin eyebrows slightly furrowed. She seemed unable to hold on. Her pale lips slightly parted, and she said helplessly, “I… I’m a little afraid of the dark.”
…
A few minutes later, Lin Ji sat on the table under the small window, her head resting slightly on Ji Baixing’s shoulder. Her hand was held gently in Ji Baixing’s palm, being lightly kneaded.
A beam of light shone through the small window, falling perfectly onto the two girls leaning against each other.
[I’m betting on the female lead this time. At the critical moment, the female lead is more dominant.]
“Lin Ji.” Ji Baixing took out a tissue to wipe Lin Ji’s sweat and gently called out to Lin Ji, who was leaning on her shoulder, eyes closed as if asleep.
Lin Ji didn’t open her eyes, but still acknowledged Ji Baixing: “M-hm.”
“Are you feeling better?”
Lin Ji slightly opened her eyes, looking toward the light from the small window: “M-hm.”
Ji Baixing breathed a sigh of relief. She swung her feet, which couldn’t reach the ground: “Did you know, the first time I called you, when you didn’t respond, I already suspected you might be afraid of the dark?”
“M-hm?” Lin Ji’s voice was lazy, still unwilling to talk much.
“Didn’t I come to pull you over?” Ji Baixing thought of this, and her hand suddenly lost its gentle touch, pressing hard on Lin Ji’s finger.
Lin Ji felt the pain, but only pressed her lips together slightly, not making a sound.
“You actually pulled your hand away and said you’d be fine just squatting by the door.” Ji Baixing chuckled. “If a normal person was afraid of the dark, they would surely ask me to take them to the window immediately, right? Why did you insist on staying there?”
“…” Lin Ji was silent for a moment. She closed her eyes and didn’t speak.
Ji Baixing slightly turned her head, staring at Lin Ji’s brows, her voice laced with a smile: “What’s wrong? Trying to save face? Afraid I’ll know your weakness of being afraid of the dark?”
Lin Ji opened her eyes at the comment, wanting to retort, but meeting Ji Baixing’s gaze. She quickly closed her eyes again and mumbled sullenly, “I’m not afraid of the dark…”
Ji Baixing was also startled by Lin Ji’s sudden open eyes. She turned her head away in a way that masked her reaction, and her voice sounded a bit unnatural: “Then if you say you aren’t, you aren’t.”
The storage room fell silent again. Ji Baixing stopped talking, lowering her head, quietly holding Lin Ji’s fingers, slowly massaging and rubbing them.
Lin Ji also remained silent, just keeping her eyes closed. Even though she felt much better, she didn’t dare move at all.
Thump, thump.
The sound of a beating heart, growing steadily louder, rang out in the quiet storage room at some point.
Ji Baixing suddenly stopped the movement of her hand. She looked at the person next to her in surprise, then casually resumed rubbing Lin Ji’s palm.
“Lin Ji.” Ji Baixing finally couldn’t help but speak.
Lin Ji responded after a second or two: “M-hm.”
“I think I hear your heart beating really fast…” Ji Baixing’s hand pressure increased slightly with every word she spoke.
Lin Ji’s body stiffened for a moment, then she said calmly, “She might be sick, that’s why.”
“Is that so?” Ji Baixing spoke softly. “Is she very ill? Is there any medicine to cure it?”
“…”
“I don’t know. It might be serious, or it might not be very serious,” Lin Ji said vaguely. “As for medicine, maybe there is, or maybe there isn’t.”
Ji Baixing was about to ask again, “What do you mean by not very…”
Movement suddenly came from outside the door.
“Didn’t you say you pried the door open? Isn’t the door still closed?” It was Teacher Luo’s voice.
“It must have been pried open by me. Otherwise, how would I have gotten out? That’s strange. Maybe Ji Baixing closed the door when she left after tidying up.”
Teacher Luo frowned: “Whatever. I’ll use the key to open the door and see if the lock is damaged.”
“You students, you didn’t even check if anyone was still inside before closing the door…”
With a few click sounds, the storage room door opened.
Teacher Luo and the few students following her looked surprised at the two girls who awkwardly jumped down from the table inside the storage room.
“Oh, Ji Baixing, you haven’t left yet?”
Ji Baixing guiltily glanced at Lin Ji’s withdrawn hand, then grabbed Lin Ji’s hand again, pulling her out: “M-hm. Not long after you left, Lin Ji came to find me for something. A gust of wind just happened to lock us inside.”
“Oh…”
“Thank you, Teacher, for opening the door. I’m going to take her to the infirmary first. She’s a bit…” Ji Baixing felt a pinch on her finger and quickly corrected herself, “a bit heatstroked.”
“Oh, yes, yes, hurry up. Don’t delay. Her little face is pale.”
[Wasn’t that paleness caused by the door opening and scaring her?]
[The atmosphere just now! I almost thought something was going to happen! I was starting to get excited! This door! Why open it now of all times!]
The two stayed in the infirmary for a while and then returned to the classroom. However, upon entering, they noticed that the students, who usually kept their heads down and studied diligently, were looking at them strangely today.
Lin Ji didn’t care. With a cold expression, she walked calmly into the classroom. As she passed the middle row, she heard whispering.
“I told you! If Lin Ji chasing the person named Li was a decoy, then the person she really wants to chase is the Class President!”
“Students from the council all saw it! When the storage room door opened, the two were clearly holding hands!”
“What’s wrong with girls holding hands? Doesn’t Sheng Sheng always drag her best friend to the restroom as soon as class is over?”
“Alas, you layman! You wouldn’t understand!”
Lin Ji: “…”
It was all the bullet comments’ fault. They were truly causing harm.
In the evening, Lin Ji had just gotten out of her family’s car and was about to enter the house when she heard another car pulling in behind her.
Lin Ji paused at the door and saw a familiar small face peeking out from the rolled-down car window.
Ji Baixing waved at Lin Ji: “We meet again.”
Xu Jing also walked out of the house and ushered Ji Baixing and her mother inside.
The four sat around the sofa, and Lin Ji drank tea while listening to the two mothers talk.
“It’s like this: the college entrance exam is in two days, right? This year, the testing center wasn’t drawn to this school but another one. I was thinking it’s such a hot day, and it’s troublesome for the children to go back and forth every day.”
“Coincidentally, we have a small, vacant apartment near that school. It would be convenient for the two girls to stay there for the days of the exam,” Aunt Ji said. “We’ve also hired a nanny there, so we don’t have to worry about them being late for the exam or anything else happening.”
Lin Ji hurriedly swallowed her tea, about to speak: “I don’t…”
“That sounds great! The two children get along well, so they can look out for each other,” Lin Mama Xu Jing readily agreed, adding with a laugh, “Maybe they’ll go to the same university in the future, so they can get used to living together in advance.”
Lin Ji swallowed her tea too quickly. Before she could finish her sentence, she naturally choked, covering her mouth and coughing continuously.
“What’s wrong with you?” Ji Baixing was sitting right next to Lin Ji. Seeing Lin Ji coughing non-stop, she moved closer and reached out to pat Lin Ji’s back.
Once Lin Ji’s coughing subsided slightly, Ji Baixing suddenly leaned in close to her ear, her voice soft but carrying a hint of playful provocation: “You’re not afraid to live with me, are you? Afraid I’ll laugh at you for being afraid of the dark?”
At this point, Aunt Ji happened to say, “We still need to ask Mumu what she thinks. If the two girls live together, Mumu might find something inconvenient.”
Lin Ji turned her head and looked calmly at Ji Baixing’s smiling peach blossom eyes: “I’m fine. There’s nothing inconvenient.”
