The Supporting Female Character Wakes Up and Gets a Happy Ending with the Female Lead (GL) - Chapter 15
On the day of the college entrance exam, Lin Ji woke up early, read a comprehension passage, and after washing up and eating a simple breakfast, she left the apartment.
She arrived at the exam center early and waited for a short while before seeing students from her school arrive. She went to the designated meeting point, received her admission ticket from the homeroom teacher, and gave the teacher a slight bow.
Teacher Ai was specially wearing a qipao today. As she handed out the admission tickets one by one, her eyes couldn’t help but well up slightly.
“Lin Ji,” Teacher Ai walked over. “You are the only student in our class who confounds me. When your grades first dropped, it was truly alarming. Then, right before the college entrance exam, just when everyone thought you would continue to drift, you suddenly seemed to wake up.”
Teacher Ai then smiled: “It shouldn’t really be called ‘waking up.’ You have been studying diligently in places we didn’t know about. I used to worry about you all the time, but now I don’t worry so much.”
“Good luck on the exam. Don’t give me a score like your previous ones, understand? Otherwise, when you come to collect your graduation certificate, I’ll still have to settle accounts with you!”
Lin Ji stood in front of Teacher Ai, her hand clutching the admission ticket, slowly tightening her grip until a red mark was pressed into her palm.
She couldn’t imagine the path her former self would have ultimately taken, but thankfully, she was no longer that previous Lin Ji. She had agency now; she could control her own life and walk the path she wanted.
It was time to enter the exam room. Teacher Ai stood outside, sending her students into the testing center.
Lin Ji walked toward the exam room with determined steps. Ji Baixing walked up beside her at some point and said, “Good luck with the exam.”
When Lin Ji looked back, Ji Baixing was already waving and walking to the other side.
Lin Ji smiled faintly and mouthed a message back to Ji Baixing.
The first day of the college entrance exam concluded successfully.
Lin Ji stood at the entrance of the small apartment, suddenly realizing that something was wrong.
Ji Baixing, who was half a step behind Lin Ji, reached out and poked Lin Ji’s waist when she saw her stop at the door: “What’s wrong? Did you forget the password?”
“…No.” Lin Ji entered the password, opened the door, went inside, and opened every door in the entire apartment to look inside.
She regretted not speaking up earlier to ask if there were two rooms.
Lin Ji looked at the single bedroom and regretted being provoked by Ji Baixing into agreeing to the arrangement.
Ji Baixing happened to walk up behind Lin Ji at that moment. Seeing Lin Ji’s solemn expression, she reached out and touched Lin Ji’s forehead: “Why do you look so pale? Heatstroke?”
Lin Ji slightly tilted her head to avoid the touch. She looked at Ji Baixing calmly: “Studio apartment?”
Ji Baixing seemed to have known this all along. She just nodded calmly: “Yeah. Do you want to eat first or shower first?”
“The auntie who cooks will be here soon,” Ji Baixing said, looking down at the time.
Lin Ji was taken aback by Ji Baixing’s composed reaction and couldn’t help but let her guard down: “Why are you so…”
As soon as the words left her mouth, Lin Ji calmed down. She took a deep breath, and her tone settled: “I’ll shower first.”
[Help, why do the supporting female character and the female lead look even more compatible the more I watch?]
[Why does the naive supporting female character look so much like she’s being manipulated, hahaha? At this moment, whoever feels awkward is the one who’s not right!]
[They’re both girls. What’s wrong with sleeping in the same bed? (Smile)]
Lin Ji ignored the bullet comments in front of her and hurried into the bathroom. As she took off her clothes and the hot water hit her body, Lin Ji suddenly remembered what she had forgotten.
This wasn’t her home. She hadn’t brought her pajamas in.
Lin Ji froze in place, feeling like she was losing face more and more often in front of Ji Baixing.
Perhaps Lin Ji was in the bathroom for too long. The auntie had already cooked dinner and left, yet Lin Ji still hadn’t come out. Ji Baixing felt something was amiss and walked toward the bathroom.
She knocked on the frosted glass door: “Lin Ji? Are you done washing? Dinner is ready.”
Lin Ji struggled with a half-long, half-short towel, wrapping it around her body, then unwrapping it. Hearing Ji Baixing knock, she froze slightly in fear.
“In a minute…”
Lin Ji steeled herself, wrapped the towel around her again, and tugged it down slightly. Hearing Ji Baixing acknowledge her and say she would wait outside, she slowly moved to the door and placed her hand on the doorknob.
Ji Baixing’s footsteps were no longer audible. She must have left.
Lin Ji took a deep breath, held it, and then yanked the door open, stepping out of the bathroom.
Ji Baixing called out, having returned unexpectedly: “Lin Ji, the auntie said she forgot to pack your pajamas yesterday. I brought two sets of mine. I’ll give you mine…”
Lin Ji and Ji Baixing stared at each other. In less than three seconds, they both averted their gaze.
If one looked closely, their lips were unnaturally pursed, and their ear tips were flushed red.
“Pajamas are in the closet. You can take any set you like,” Ji Baixing backed away from the door, hiding behind the door for a moment to secretly glance at Lin Ji, then retreated to the living room only after her entire face turned red. “I’m hungry, so I’m going to eat first.”
Lin Ji clutched the towel and replied with a lowered head: “M-hm.”
Once the entire apartment became quiet again, Lin Ji slowly moved toward the closet, grabbed a random set of pajamas, and went into the bathroom to change.
When Lin Ji came out, Ji Baixing was mostly finished eating. The two glanced at each other, both implicitly agreeing not to speak.
Lin Ji sat down to eat. Ji Baixing quietly said she was going to shower, and the two quickly passed each other.
[??? What did I miss? Why is the atmosphere so weird?]
[I don’t know. The camera just moved, and it was like this.]
[Is there anything my noble member status can’t see! Show it to me!]
Lin Ji paused while eating. She had never found these bullet comments so noisy. She quickly finished her meal, washed her bowl, and sat on the sofa to rest with her eyes closed.
The air conditioner was on in the living room. The cool breeze was very refreshing.
The entire small apartment didn’t have a balcony, only a large floor-to-ceiling window in the living room. At this moment, the sky was filled with the afterglow of the sunset. Golden light streamed in and fell gently into the room.
When Ji Baixing came out of the shower, the golden sunlight had slowly moved onto Lin Ji’s body, making Lin Ji look lazy and aloof, captivating the eye.
Ji Baixing stood frozen at the bedroom door, quietly watching Lin Ji.
It wasn’t until the afterglow faded and the room darkened slightly that she snapped back to attention. When she did, she clearly saw that Lin Ji had opened her eyes at some point and was also quietly watching her.
Ji Baixing looked slightly flustered, as if trying to hide something, quickly suppressing the emotion that hadn’t yet faded from her eyes. She was about to raise a smile and speak, but Lin Ji spoke first.
“Where is the hairdryer? If you wash your hair and don’t dry it, you might catch a cold,” Lin Ji stood up from the sofa, her gaze detached, her voice calm, and even her movements carried a cool, lazy feeling.
Ji Baixing answered instinctively: “In the room’s cabinet.”
Lin Ji then walked toward Ji Baixing: “Then let’s go back to the room. I have nothing to do. I’ll help you dry your hair.”
Ji Baixing sat on a small stool, and Lin Ji sat on the foot of the bed, positioned slightly higher than Ji Baixing.
The hairdryer was plugged in. Lin Ji turned on the warm setting, tested the temperature on her hand, and then started gently running it through Ji Baixing’s waist-length hair, drying it strand by strand.
Lin Ji’s movements were light. Her fingers moved through the damp hair, picking up a lock of hair to blow dry and then picking up another, which felt incredibly comfortable.
“Have you dried anyone else’s hair before?” Ji Baixing closed her eyes comfortably and asked softly.
Lin Ji lowered her gaze to look at Ji Baixing, then said: “No. Why? Did I burn you?”
“No, it feels very comfortable. I was just wondering if you’ve dried the auntie’s hair before, which is why you’re so good at it.”
Lin Ji responded intermittently: “My mom is quite busy. As far as I can remember, I haven’t dried her hair.”
“Oh.”
Ji Baixing acknowledged her and then fell silent.
Lin Ji also said nothing, her eyes lowered, gently blowing dry Ji Baixing’s hair with her fingers, lost in thought.
After an unknown period, Ji Baixing’s waist-length hair was finally almost dry. Lin Ji suddenly felt a weight on her hand.
She turned off the hairdryer and gently supported Lin Ji’s head, which was tilted to the side: “Ji Baixing?”
Ji Baixing didn’t respond. Her eyes were tightly closed, looking completely asleep.
Lin Ji glanced out the window. The sky had darkened. It was late. She knew the people behind the bullet comments wouldn’t be able to see anymore.
“Xingxing.”
A very, very soft sound echoed in the room, so faint that she wondered if she had imagined it.
Lin Ji put down the hairdryer and quietly supported Ji Baixing’s shoulder and the head that had collapsed into her hand. After a long moment, she slowly stood up and crouched in front of Ji Baixing.
She supported Ji Baixing, allowing her to slowly slump into her arms. Then, she placed one hand on Ji Baixing’s back and the other under her body, gently pulling her upward to lift her.
The bed was right in front of them. Lin Ji leaned over, holding Ji Baixing, about to lay her down, when Ji Baixing suddenly moved. As if mistaking her for a doll, she wrapped her arms around Lin Ji’s neck and mumbled, “Big clumsy bear…”
Lin Ji half-knelt by the side of the bed. Feeling Ji Baixing move, she froze instantly. It wasn’t until Ji Baixing seemed to fall asleep again that she slowly reached out to pull away Ji Baixing’s hands from her neck.
Ji Baixing seemed to be in a deep sleep. When Lin Ji moved her hands, she obediently let go, showing no other reaction.
Finally managing to lay Ji Baixing on the bed, Lin Ji sighed in relief. She had just turned off the main room light and was about to leave the bedside when Ji Baixing, lying on the bed, suddenly reached out, grabbed her hand, and forcefully pulled her onto the bed.
In an instant, the world spun. Before Lin Ji could react, Ji Baixing wrapped her arms and legs around Lin Ji, embracing her completely.
“Big clumsy bear… not afraid of the dark,” Ji Baixing mumbled. “I’m here.”
The room was silent for a long moment. Lin Ji finally spoke after a considerable pause: “Ji Baixing, you’re not asleep, are you?”
Ji Baixing didn’t move. The only response Lin Ji received was Ji Baixing’s steady breathing.
