The Supporting Female Character Wakes Up and Gets a Happy Ending with the Female Lead (GL) - Chapter 16
The college entrance exam had ended.
That afternoon, Lin Ji was tidying up the few remaining, mostly useless textbooks in her drawer. Occasionally, she was drawn by the noisy sounds in the classroom, looked up, and then lowered her head again.
As she took the textbooks out of the desk, Lin Ji gave the book a light shake, and several slips of paper fluttered out.
The papers were various colors, all folded into small squares.
Lin Ji picked one up and was about to unfold it to see what was inside when the homeroom teacher walked in to call for order, standing on the podium to deliver the final safety guidance and farewell.
Lin Ji had no choice but to tuck the papers back into the textbook, place the book in her backpack, zip it up, sit up straight, and look toward the podium.
It was only then that she noticed Ji Baixing, who was standing beside the podium helping the homeroom teacher organize files, had been looking in her direction at some point, her expression slightly nervous.
?
Lin Ji couldn’t guess Ji Baixing’s thoughts. Or rather, she hadn’t figured Ji Baixing out from the beginning. Everyone else’s original attitude toward her was like a plague of locusts—avoiding her at all costs—but Ji Baixing acted as if nothing were wrong.
The homeroom teacher finished the last class meeting and distributed the university application forms.
Finally, in a classroom mixed with cheers and tears, their three years of high school life came to an end.
Lin Ji just quietly sensed the atmosphere of sorrowful farewell but struggled to feel that emotion herself. After all, she had truly missed out on two years of high school. Her memories were no longer complete, and she herself felt somewhat incomplete.
As the crowd dispersed, Lin Ji sat quietly in the classroom for a while, then stood up, ready to leave.
Just as she reached the doorway, she bumped into Ji Baixing, who had returned unexpectedly.
Ji Baixing had run all the way. Her cherry-red lips were slightly parted, and she was breathing rapidly. Her face was flushed with a blush like the sunset, looking docile and cute. Especially when she looked at Lin Ji, her whole gaze brightened, making it impossible to look away.
“I knew you hadn’t left yet.”
Ji Baixing braced herself against the door, blocking Lin Ji’s path outward. She advanced toward Lin Ji, step by step, as if to force her back into the classroom, close the door, and only let her go when night fell.
This was the thought that uncontrollably flashed through Lin Ji’s mind the moment Ji Baixing blocked the door.
It was as if a part of her wanted to be locked in the classroom by Ji Baixing, just like how “she” used to make Ji Baixing stay in the classroom to explain problems until dark before letting her leave.
But Ji Baixing did not do that.
She didn’t seem to want revenge on her.
“Wait, let me catch my breath.” Ji Baixing straightened up, patted her chest, and took a few deep breaths. Her rushed breathing finally calmed down slightly.
Ji Baixing no longer gripped the door, blocking Lin Ji from leaving. Instead, she stepped aside, tidied her wind-blown hair a little, and smoothed out some wrinkles in her clothes.
[Tidying hair and clothes again. Is she about to say something important?]
[Graduation season and confession go together better~]
Lin Ji only briefly glanced at the bullet comments floating above Ji Baixing’s shoulder, and her heart skipped a beat for no reason.
Ji Baixing put her hands behind her back, a slightly bashful smile on her face: “Lin Ji, if you don’t have any plans this summer, how about coming on a graduation trip with me?”
Lin Ji’s expression remained unchanged throughout. She only hesitated for a second or two before agreeing to Ji Baixing: “Okay.”
It wasn’t until Ji Baixing went back into the classroom to fetch her backpack that Lin Ji turned her back to her and lightly squeezed the fabric near her heart.
It was a strange feeling.
A sense of relief, yet also a feeling of loss.
A few days later, Lin Ji stood at her yard entrance with her suitcase, waiting for Ji Baixing, who had called to say she was arriving to pick her up.
After the suitcase was put into the trunk, Lin Ji sat in the back seat, looked up, and was stunned.
“Hi.” Song Zhaonan sat in the front passenger seat and turned around to greet Lin Ji. “We meet again.”
Lin Ji glanced at Ji Baixing, then replied to Song Zhaonan: “M-hm.”
Ji Baixing didn’t seem to notice the slightly strange atmosphere in the car. She was looking down at her phone, sending messages to a few people, before finally looking up: “Song Zhaonan, can you please take out your phone and reply to your classmates who are waiting anxiously at the station?”
“I’ve spent this whole morning replying to messages.”
Song Zhaonan held a bag of small cookies, took a bite, and then slowly replied to Ji Baixing: “You’re the student council president. You have more credibility than me. They’ll listen to you.”
Ji Baixing pouted, too lazy to argue with Song Zhaonan. She put down her phone, tore open a bag of small cookies, and leaned closer to Lin Ji’s side.
“Lin Ji, I haven’t had a chance to tell you the specific itinerary for the trip, have I?” Ji Baixing offered Lin Ji a small cookie. “There’s an immersive role-playing script experience in another city that’s very popular right now. It’s a two-day, two-night storyline, and then…”
Lin Ji took the small cookie, slowly nibbling on it, and quietly listened to Ji Baixing speak, not saying a word.
The small bullet comments in front of her started buzzing again at this moment.
[Why does it feel like a romantic conflict (shuraba)?]
[Oh~ The relationship line has moved to the graduation trip, has it? The male lead invited the female lead on a graduation trip, and the female lead naturally brought along the supporting female character.]
[If I’m not mistaken, the graduation trip is going to be quite the show!]
“Oh, right. We’re going with Sheng Sheng and Zhang Yu from our class, and also a propaganda committee member, the girl named Ning Mang, do you remember her?” Ji Baixing said while feeding Lin Ji snacks. “I thought Song Zhaonan invited me on a graduation trip alone, but he specifically asked that I must invite Ning Mang along.”
“I paid for your expenses for this entire trip, so can’t I ask for one person?” Song Zhaonan’s voice came from the front seat. “Besides, I’m the class president of my class, and our propaganda committee member asked me for help. I can’t not help, can I?”
“If they get together, won’t our two classes be related by marriage?” Song Zhaonan calculated with his fingers.
Ji Baixing laughed exasperatedly and stopped talking to Song Zhaonan.
She turned her head, about to offer Lin Ji more snacks, but Lin Ji had already turned her head away, resting quietly against the side, eyes closed as if asleep.
Ji Baixing stared at Lin Ji blankly for a few moments, then quietly turned back, put the snacks down, and messaged Song Zhaonan in the front to also stop making noise by eating.
The car fell silent. Lin Ji slightly opened her eyes at some point, glanced toward the front seat, and then slowly closed them again.
When she first realized Ji Baixing was the type of person she liked, she should have avoided her. She thought she was the variable, so she harbored the fantasy that there might be a change between Song Zhaonan, the male lead the bullet comments spoke of, and Ji Baixing, the female lead.
She suddenly remembered that when she previously explained why she liked Li Yu, she panicked and just repeated what the bullet comments said: that it was to hide the person she truly liked.
So, was Ji Baixing, who frequently approached her, also using her to hide someone?
Was it Song Zhaonan? But she and Song Zhaonan had never interacted. If she really had to count, the only time was probably in the first year of high school, when she went to pick up a drunk Father Lin from a banquet and happened to run into Song Zhaonan’s parents and Song Zhaonan coming out to see off guests. They exchanged a few simple words then.
So, was she not hiding Song Zhaonan, but was too shy and asked her along to act as a cover or for some other reason?
Lin Ji sighed heavily, muffled in her heart.
She thought of the time she missed in the second and third years of high school, where “she” constantly intervened, ruining every encounter between Ji Baixing and Song Zhaonan, causing them to slowly lose contact, which is why the graduation trip finally provided an opportunity…
Forget it. She would just treat it as a debt owed to Ji Baixing. If the male and female leads were destined to be together, why hope for another variable to descend.
She just knew that after this graduation trip, she would probably travel for the entire summer break.
They finally reached their destination. Before getting out of the car, everyone noticed the castle-like building in front of them.
But it was located in a bustling urban area. On this lively, neon-lit street, it looked completely out of place.
They arrived at the entrance. Before they could knock, a girl wearing a maid’s long dress pulled open the wooden door. A bell behind the door chimed, and the girl stepped out.
“Hello everyone, my name is Lin Lin. Welcome to the Secret Castle.” The girl named Lin Lin’s smile turned eerie and strange at the end, before she quickly returned to her cheerful self. “I almost forgot, you haven’t received the script yet, so you don’t count right now.”
“Come in with me.” Lin Lin pushed the door open and stood behind it, gesturing for them to enter.
But due to Lin Lin’s strange smile just now, everyone exchanged glances for a while, then awkwardly pushed and shoved each other as they walked inside.
“I knew it was immersive, but I didn’t realize it was this immersive!” Sheng Sheng and Ning Mang were close. Sheng Sheng whispered to Ning Mang, “Her smile just now really scared me!”
“Thank you for the compliment.” Lin Lin stood at the door and clearly heard Sheng Sheng’s words. She reached out and patted Sheng Sheng’s shoulder: “I should get a raise this month. Little sister, don’t worry. I promise to take good care of you in the script!”
Sheng Sheng wanted to cry but held back: “No need, older sister. I think I can manage fine on my own.”
The first floor was the reception lobby. The real immersive experience began on the second floor. Almost every room had mahogany furniture, and even the wallpaper was a dull, deep red, carrying a retro feel that was also inexplicably spine-chilling.
Since it was the first night, everyone was tired from the long drive. Lin Lin arranged for everyone to draw their scripts, and based on the script’s content, they chose their rooms and were allowed to rest first.
Everyone was assigned a single room, but oddly enough, Lin Ji and Ji Baixing both ended up standing at the doorway of the same room.
Lin Ji looked down at the room number written in her script. She hadn’t gone to the wrong room.
Before she could speak, Ji Baixing unfolded her script and showed the room number to Lin Ji.
It was the same number.
The script wasn’t misprinted, so the two of them could only share the same room.
Lin Ji hadn’t had time to read the script carefully, only glancing at the general character information. She wondered if Ji Baixing’s character had anything to do with hers.
“Why are you still standing at the door? Aren’t you coming in?”
Ji Baixing opened the air conditioner as soon as she entered the room. She sat on the edge of the bed, single-handedly gathered the long hair behind her, tilted her neck back, and tiredly blew cool air on herself.
Lin Ji followed her gaze. Her eyes, no more or less, stopped right at Ji Baixing’s long, clean, white neck. Her gaze involuntarily shifted down, landing on her shoulder…
Lin Ji snapped back, withdrew her gaze, calmly walked into the room with her suitcase, and closed the door.
She was probably losing it, or maybe it was the influence of the character setting “Vampire” written in her script. She actually had the sudden urge to bite down in that moment.
