The Supporting Female Character Wakes Up and Gets a Happy Ending with the Female Lead (GL) - Chapter 19
“That should not be such an obvious… motive,” Sheng Sheng said.
Ji Baixing raised her hand in time to tidy her falling hair: “Of course, I didn’t harm him. I usually enjoy things related to ghosts and the supernatural. I came here this time after seeing some things about the castle online, wanting to experience some thrill and relax.”
“That’s a very unique way to relax.”
Ji Baixing smiled: “After all, I work in a funeral parlor every day. I’m under a lot of pressure, so my methods of relaxation naturally have to be a little special.”
“So, did you see him last night or at any other time?” Sheng Sheng asked.
“No,” Ji Baixing said categorically.
“Can anyone vouch for you?” Song Zhaonan said.
Ji Baixing thought for a moment, then looked at Lin Ji beside her with a smile: “I slept with her last night. She should know if I went out or not.”
Last night…
Lin Ji’s ears turned a suspicious shade of red, but her expression remained calm: “She didn’t leave the entire night.”
“Then is it possible that she left after you fell asleep, and you didn’t know?” Sheng Sheng pressed the issue.
Lin Ji’s lips slightly parted. She almost blurted out that she barely slept the entire night.
She wasn’t sure why Ji Baixing kissed her last night or what it meant, but seeing that Ji Baixing showed no intention of bringing it up, she didn’t want to expose herself either.
“I… I’m a light sleeper.” Lin Ji managed to redirect the answer at the last moment.
“Oh. Okay, it seems I was a little too optimistic about ending the game so quickly.” Sheng Sheng looked at her script, still unwilling to give up. “Then, did you hear any other unusual sounds last night?”
“…”
Lin Ji was silent. Of course, there was movement. Ji Baixing’s inexplicable actions last night had kept her restless until now. But the person involved acted as if nothing had happened, which made her even more irritable. She wanted to find a time to ask for a clear explanation, but she was afraid Ji Baixing would simply say it was part of the game mission, and she accidentally lost control of the strength, just like she had tricked Lin Ji into putting the “bite marks” on her.
“There were no other sounds,” Lin Ji lowered her eyes and said slowly.
The acquaintance lead didn’t provide enough substantial evidence to follow up on, so everyone returned to the victim’s room to search for clues again.
Lin Ji stood by the room’s window. This room’s window was almost half the size of the others, which made it a point of interest.
Ji Baixing was initially searching near the dummy, but slowly and subtly moved to stand next to Lin Ji.
“Miss Lin, the light sleeper?” Ji Baixing stood close to Lin Ji. The two were remarkably close, easily catching each other’s scent—the collision of cool tea fragrance and green peach scent. Even their breaths seemed to mingle several times within that single phrase.
Lin Ji’s heart skipped a beat, but she feigned composure, looking calmly at Ji Baixing: “M-hm.”
“You really didn’t hear anything last night?”
She’s here to probe.
“No. Maybe it’s because the college entrance exam just ended, and I’m quite tired, so I sleep deeply. I went to bed early last night and slept very well.” Lin Ji’s finger rested on the window sill, wiping away a layer of dust. “I didn’t hear any sounds at all. Did you really sneak out and kill someone in the middle of the night?”
“Of course not. If I had gone out, the room door makes such a loud sound. You’re a light sleeper; wouldn’t you have heard it?” Ji Baixing said with a smile, acting as if she was just chatting casually with Lin Ji.
But Lin Ji wasn’t fooled. The focus on being a light sleeper, was Ji Baixing afraid she hadn’t been asleep and would discover what she did last night?
“I truly didn’t hear anything.”
After a quick check, everyone returned to the main hall.
“I have a major discovery!” As soon as he sat down, Zhang Yu slammed a photo onto the table. “This is the sole of a high-heeled shoe! I found it near the window in the victim’s room. It’s only a part of it. The killer must have run out of time, so they hurriedly wiped up and escaped.”
“High heels… so we can rule out the men first, right?” Sheng Sheng said, looking toward Ji Baixing. “No offense, Class President, but the only suspect we have right now is you. After all, you knew the victim and had a small connection with him.”
Ji Baixing smiled: “It’s fine. However, my job doesn’t require me to wear high heels, so I didn’t bring any on this trip.”
“Can we go to your room to check the situation?”
“Of course.”
Sheng Sheng and Ning Mang, the two girls, entered the room where Ji Baixing and Lin Ji had slept last night.
“Huh? Why are your beds pushed together?” Sheng Sheng asked as soon as she opened the door and saw the room’s arrangement.
“They were like this when we checked in. It was too much trouble to move them apart, so we didn’t bother.”
The girls searched the room and found that Ji Baixing genuinely didn’t have high heels. Just as they were about to leave, they spotted a pair of high heels on the small balcony.
Sheng Sheng’s eyes lit up. She quickly walked over and picked up the red high heels: “Whose are these?”
Lin Ji arrived late. Seeing the shoes in Sheng Sheng’s hand, she admitted straightforwardly: “They’re mine.”
The group rushed downstairs to compare the pattern on the back of the high heels, only to find that it didn’t match the photo at all.
The sole of the high heel in the photo was too worn out to discern the original pattern.
“Ah~ I’m so tired and exhausted. We spent the whole morning looking for clues, and it’s all for nothing,” Sheng Sheng slumped onto the table. “Which one of you is the killer? Just put down your weapons and confess quickly!”
“Is it possible… that the killer isn’t a person?” Zhang Yu, the photographer, suddenly suggested.
“Are you talking about a ghost?” Sheng Sheng laughed carelessly. “Don’t be ridiculous. I’m a supernatural streamer. I streamed exploring the room from last night until this morning, and I didn’t film any strange situations… at all…”
“You weren’t sleeping in the room last night!” Zhang Yu exclaimed. “Aha! You’re a deep one, my good deskmate! You were secretly wandering around the castle all night while everyone else was asleep. Judging by the degree of coagulation of the victim’s blood, the victim must have died at night! You definitely know something!”
“I…” Sheng Sheng waved her hands. “Fine, fine, I did film something last night.”
Sheng Sheng took out her prepared prop and played the footage from last night.
Everyone gathered around the video. The corridor of the castle was pitch black at night and silently quiet. Sheng Sheng spoke softly to the viewers in her live stream, shining a flashlight as she slowly walked toward the depths of the corridor.
She stopped at the last room in the corridor. It was a room where no one was staying, an empty room.
“All the other rooms have people staying in them. I checked when I entered my room last night. This is the only empty room. Everyone get ready, I’m going to open the door and go in,” Sheng Sheng’s voice came from the live stream footage.
“Wow, you’re seriously brave. You arrived with us, so when did you record this?” Zhang Yu exclaimed.
“I’m not that brave. Sister Lin Lin took me to the green screen to film this after you all went into your rooms,” Sheng Sheng whispered. “Don’t pretend. I bet you all received mission notifications too. Don’t think I don’t know.”
“M-hm, you’re the smartest.”
In the footage, Sheng Sheng pushed the room door open. The room was empty. As the door opened, dust was disturbed, making Sheng Sheng choke.
The footage continued to move into the room. There seemed to be nothing there.
The flashlight scanned every corner of the room, revealing no terrifying ghost shadows. Just as Sheng Sheng was about to say she couldn’t see anything supernatural and would turn back, the corner illuminated by the flashlight suddenly started bubbling.
Everyone focused on the spot, seeing a kettle-like object in the corner continuously bubbling out blood-red water.
The footage zoomed in on the corner repeatedly, revealing the pattern of a thorny rose carved into the golden kettle.
The video suddenly became shaky and blurry. As the camera spun, everyone saw a woman in a long, red, floor-length gown in the corridor, linking arms with another girl. In a blink of an eye, they vanished.
The footage ended there.
“Didn’t you say you didn’t even see a ghost shadow? What was that in the corridor?” Zhang Yu asked.
“Both of them had shadows! Can people with shadows be called ghosts?” Sheng Sheng replied. “But their height doesn’t look like any of the girls here.”
“If it’s not a ghost but a person, could it be a guy dressed up?”
The first day ended without much breakthrough.
At eleven o’clock that night, the door to Lin Ji and Ji Baixing’s room was knocked on. Lin Lin led the two girls downstairs to the backdrop set up on the first floor.
“Since the two beautiful girls know each other, should a few more intimate actions be acceptable later?” Lin Lin said with a smile. “We will also try our best to find the right angles.”
Lin Ji had changed into a form-fitting, deep red mermaid dress. She stood in front of the fake window backdrop and nodded faintly at the comment. Ji Baixing had also changed clothes. She wore a moon-white, ankle-length gauze skirt and high-heeled shoes adorned with pure white crystals, looking gentle and ethereal standing next to Lin Ji.
“Wow! The two beautiful girls have such compatible vibes. It feels like a picture just seeing them stand together,” Lin Lin exclaimed.
“This scene is the one the photographer will capture tonight, which is also the clue about the vampire. So, there might need to be a slightly intimate action. The girl in the red dress will need to put her hand on the waist of the girl next to her, showing a sense of force, and then bring her head closer.”
After a simple explanation of the actions, Lin Ji leaned her back against the fake window sill backdrop, her lower back pressing against a jutting corner of the fake window. No emotion could be seen in her cool, frosty eyes. She just slightly extended her hand and wrapped it around Ji Baixing’s slender waist.
“M-hm, good. Now, lower your head and pretend to bite her neck,” Lin Lin prompted.
Ji Baixing was facing away from the camera behind her. The distance between her and Lin Ji was actually slightly far. At that distance, it would be awkward for Lin Ji to make the fake biting movement.
“Can you bite my neck like this?” Ji Baixing slightly shifted her waist, cautiously moving closer to Lin Ji. Her star-like eyes held a smile, and then she quickly lowered her head to hide her shyness, her voice soft: “I’ll move a little closer. That should work.”
Ji Baixing was clearly the one being embraced and in a passive position, but at this moment, the roles seemed reversed.
Lin Ji involuntarily took a step back until her lower back was tightly pressed against the window sill, making further retreat impossible. Yet, Ji Baixing remained exceptionally close to her. Their warm breaths tightly intertwined, making it impossible to escape.
“Why are you hiding from me?” The voice was plaintive, like a child who hadn’t received candy.
