The Supporting Female Character Wakes Up and Gets a Happy Ending with the Female Lead (GL) - Chapter 2
Lin Ji was assisted and sent to the infirmary by Ji Baixing. She was conscious and able to walk by herself. Her discomfort seemed to come less from a fever or cold and more from a feeling she couldn’t quite name, which made her nervous, uneasy, and irritable.
Something wanted to force her to speak and to do things against her will.
Lin Ji clenched the hand hanging by her side, her nails digging into her palm. She closed her eyes uncomfortably and said to the person beside her in a weak but serious voice: “If I do anything strange later, just slap me.”
Ji Baixing was taken aback. The hand supporting Lin Ji’s waist tightened, and she asked with slight surprise, “What counts as something strange?”
Lin Ji didn’t speak again, just bit her lower lip tightly.
Ji Baixing looked at Lin Ji thoughtfully but didn’t ask further, quickly rushing her to the infirmary.
After her temperature was taken and the school doctor asked if she had any other discomforts, the doctor put her on an IV drip. Lying on the infirmary bed, Lin Ji slightly lowered her eyes and looked over at Ji Baixing.
As soon as she saw Ji Baixing, a strong, inexplicable urge to target Ji Baixing arose in her.
She wanted to give her attitude, she wanted to… curse at her.
[With that look, the female lead kindly sent her to the infirmary, and this foolish supporting female character is still thinking of cursing at her?]
Lin Ji’s temples throbbed again.
What exactly was this text floating in the air, appearing out of nowhere in her sight?
Was she really suffering from some strange illness? What supporting female character, what female lead, what were these things?
Although, she really did feel inexplicably angry whenever she looked at Ji Baixing right now, and she wanted to curse at her.
Ji Baixing asked the school doctor about Lin Ji’s condition, then walked to Lin Ji’s bedside and said gently, “Teacher Ai said that if you still don’t feel well later, you can have the school doctor contact her, and you can take a leave of absence to go home and rest.”
Lin Ji watched Ji Baixing quietly, not saying a word.
[It’s quite nice for the beauties to quietly look at each other in the same frame.]
[Only the female lead has such a good temper, being so accommodating to someone who constantly makes things difficult for her.]
[Beauties in the same frame are so pleasing to the eye, woo woo woo, every one of them is so captivating.]
[Beautiful girl! Can we have some closeness!]
[Wake up, the supporting female character cannot get close to the female lead!]
Lin Ji: “…”
Did she eat poisonous mushrooms last night?
Lin Ji now suspected she wasn’t just confused from a fever, but that she had gone insane.
Ji Baixing was also puzzled by Lin Ji’s unusual silence today. She watched Lin Ji in silence for a few seconds, then smiled slightly: “I’ll go back to class now.”
The infirmary became quiet again. The school doctor came over to check her IV drip speed, said a few casual words, and then left.
The vast infirmary was left with only Lin Ji lying on the bed with an IV drip. She stared straight at the ceiling with her eyes open, trying to clearly see the words that had appeared before her.
But the weakness from being sick, mixed with the sedative effect of the medicine, soon made her unable to keep her eyes open. She closed them, wanting to sleep.
Although she was burning up and drowsy with fatigue, the moment she closed her eyes and fell asleep, her consciousness became clear.
Strange, surprising memories gradually surfaced in her mind. The words she thought were hallucinations frequently appeared in her dreams, almost always cursing her. Even when she appeared, and hadn’t done anything yet, the words floating in the air would start a round of insults.
They cursed her for having beauty but a dark and utterly foolish heart.
They cursed her for only bullying others, relying on her family’s small wealth to act recklessly at school. Even with a beautiful and delicate face and a well-off family, she was holding a script for a peak life, even if she was a brainless beauty.
But she insisted on making things difficult for the female lead for the sake of a boy who had absolutely no redeeming qualities, and when she knew the female lead had someone she was fond of, she created all sorts of misunderstandings, causing the male and female leads to miss each other by chance and create a rift.
Lin Ji’s brows furrowed tighter in her sleep.
She remembered every single one of those events that surfaced in her mind. Even though she clearly knew that she would absolutely not do such things, those memories, which were too real to question, firmly told her that she had indeed done those things.
She felt like she was Lin Ji, and yet not this Lin Ji.
…
Lin Ji slept soundly all morning, only waking up during the midday break. The infirmary was quiet. Her needle had been removed at some point, and no one had woken her up.
Her fever was gone. The strange memories in her mind also faded, suppressed to the very bottom, unable to cause any ripples.
Lin Ji propped herself up, her body still feeling a bit weak, and wanted to get a glass of water.
Suddenly, she heard movement outside the door. She didn’t know why, but she immediately burrowed back into the blanket, closed her eyes, and lay down again.
The person who came in was Ji Baixing, wearing a high ponytail tied with a black bow. She walked in softly, stood in front of Lin Ji, watched her for a while, placed the things in her hand on the table, and then pulled up a chair and sat down, carefully staring at Lin Ji lying on the bed for a long time.
Lin Ji smelled preserved egg and lean meat porridge. It was very, very fragrant, so fragrant that she immediately wanted to open her eyes, sit up, and gulp it down.
But this person never left. Lin Ji could feel the other person’s gaze fixed on her, though she didn’t know what she was looking at.
After an unknown amount of time, Ji Baixing snapped out of her trance. Her straight posture suddenly leaned forward a little, and she gently blew a breath towards Lin Ji’s bangs.
Lin Ji’s bangs were blown aside, revealing her thin, slightly arched eyebrows and fair forehead. Lin Ji dared not move at all. She smelled a faint, peach-like fragrance—a sweet and sour peach scent.
This scent belonged to Ji Baixing.
The other person said nothing, got up, put the chair back in its original position, and quickly left.
The moment the door closed, Lin Ji opened her eyes. She looked towards the door, but couldn’t see anything.
The other person had not only brought her food but also poured her a glass of water. She drank some water and opened the bag containing the preserved egg and lean meat porridge. It wasn’t the school’s takeaway box, nor did it look like it came from any small shop outside the school that she was familiar with.
But, it also didn’t look like her own lunchbox.
Lin Ji didn’t think much of it, assuming the other person had bought it from a store she hadn’t been to.
Her fever was gone. Just as she finished the preserved egg and lean meat porridge, the school doctor returned. After taking her temperature, the doctor handed the leave slip directly to Lin Ji.
Lin Ji looked down at the slip and then looked at the school doctor strangely.
“What’s wrong? The stamp has been applied. Just take the slip and leave,” the school doctor explained when she saw Lin Ji looking at her.
Lin Ji pointed at the number on the thermometer, asking sincerely, “My temperature is normal now. Do I have some other illness that requires me to leave school for a check-up?”
“Your temperature is normal, and you don’t have any other illness. You are pretty much recovered.” The school doctor was also confused. When had this well-known second-generation rich girl ever not clamored to leave school for even a minor illness?
It was already surprising that she stayed at school for an IV drip with a fever, and now it seemed like she didn’t want to leave?
Lin Ji returned the leave slip to the school doctor: “Since I’m better, there’s no need for me to leave school.”
She took a step back, bowed slightly, looking like a good, studious student: “Thank you, Teacher. I’ll head back to the classroom now.”
The school doctor looked bewildered: “Alright, alright, go ahead.”
Did getting a fever completely change her personality?
Having sweated a lot from the fever, Lin Ji felt much lighter now. She quickly walked towards the classroom, but suddenly saw a familiar figure ahead and, without thinking, changed direction.
[Strange. When has the supporting female character ever avoided the female lead?]
Lin Ji calmly looked at the small text floating in front of her eyes. Her gaze lingered for only a second before moving away.
She walked towards the school dormitory building. She hadn’t thought much of it when she left the infirmary, but after being exposed to the bright sun for a while, she suddenly felt very uncomfortable in her sweat-soaked clothes.
She was not a boarding student, and the school dormitories were not open to non-boarding students.
But Lin Ji was an exception. The new girls’ dormitory building was donated by her family, as was the teaching building—Mingde Hall—built three years ago.
She walked to the dormitory building. Before she could speak, the dormitory manager auntie opened the door for her.
Lin Ji had a reserved dorm room on the top floor of the building. She didn’t live there, but she occasionally went there to take a shower and change into a fresh school uniform when she got sweaty.
“Thank you, Auntie.” Lin Ji didn’t have a warm smile on her face, but her tone was sincere.
She entered the dormitory building and headed straight for the elevator, pressing the sixth floor button.
It was lunchtime, and boarding students could take their meals back to the dorms. There were other people in the elevator. When they saw Lin Ji enter, they quickly squeezed their way out.
“Aren’t you going up?” Lin Ji’s expression was cold, and her tone wasn’t overly warm; she just asked a simple question.
“Ah, yes, yes, we are,” a girl in the crowd spoke softly.
Lin Ji shifted to the side, stepped further inside, and slightly tilted her head: “Then why aren’t you coming in?”
The students who had squeezed out now pushed each other back into the elevator. They each pressed their floor, holding their lunchboxes, standing silently to the side with their heads lowered.
Lin Ji stopped talking, staring intently at the ascending floor numbers.
On the last floor, the fifth, the last two girls got out of the elevator. The moment the elevator door closed, the two of them turned their heads and looked back at Lin Ji.
“Do you feel like Lin Ji is different today?”
“Yes. Before, I didn’t dare make eye contact with her for fear she’d start cursing at me, but today… she was just very strange.”
“Her aura is different. Her eyes seem different too.”
“How should I put it? Well, first, I’m a girl. Second, I do like looking at pretty older sisters, but I really don’t get ‘smitten’ by pretty older sisters! I’m not—!”
“But your heart is beating pretty fast.”
“…”
Lin Ji entered the dormitory, sat down to rest for a while, drank a cup of water, found the spare school uniform in the wardrobe, and went into the shower room.
Just as she was rinsing her body and applying shower gel, she heard the dormitory door close, followed by the sound of a key locking the door.
Lin Ji didn’t care about anything else. She hurriedly washed off the foam, threw on the school uniform, wrapped a bath towel around herself, and rushed out.
She turned the doorknob, yanked the door open, and peered out.
The door opened.
Lin Ji met eyes with Ji Baixing, who was standing outside the dorm door, holding a key and figuring out how to double-lock the door.
Drip.
Water from her wet fringe trickled down, following Lin Ji’s movement as she peered out of the door, landing on Ji Baixing’s fair forearm, and then slipping to the ground.
Just as Lin Ji felt a bit awkward, she was caught off guard by Ji Baixing’s slightly twitching nostrils.
“…”
Ji Baixing retracted her hand as if nothing had happened, wiped the water droplet from her forearm, and looked at Lin Ji with her calm, beautiful peach blossom eyes: “You took a shower?”
