The Supporting Female Character Wakes Up and Gets a Happy Ending with the Female Lead (GL) - Chapter 3
“Uh… M-hm.” Lin Ji slightly distanced herself from Ji Baixing and retreated further into the dorm.
She looked at the key in Ji Baixing’s hand and asked, “Were you just locking the door?”
Seeing Lin Ji retreat, Ji Baixing, on the contrary, stepped forward. The ajar door was pushed fully open. Ji Baixing walked into the dorm and then casually pushed the door back to its previous ajar position.
Lin Ji hadn’t found the air conditioner remote. The AC wasn’t on in the dorm, and she had just come out of the shower with heat radiating from her body. With a slight movement, the dorm was filled with the fresh, clear scent of cold tea.
“Yes, it’s lunchtime break. The student council is doing a routine check: locking unlocked dorms, and asking students who aren’t in the classroom for a rest to go to the classroom for their break.”
Ji Baixing’s tone carried a light, cheerful smile, and her eyes were also curved in a smile.
Anyone who saw this scene would be surprised: was this really the atmosphere between the two people who, upon meeting, were guaranteed to have a disaster?
“Can the dorm AC be turned on? I walked over from the teaching building, and I’ve just finished checking the sixth floor. It’s too hot, and you’re the last one.”
Lin Ji was silent for a few seconds. She turned and opened the drawer she hadn’t checked earlier. In the third one, she found the remote. She lifted her hand, turned on the air conditioner, and handed the remote to Ji Baixing.
“I haven’t rinsed the foam off my body yet. I’m going back to wash for a while. You can leave when you’ve rested enough.”
Ji Baixing raised the key in her hand, pursed her lips slightly, and said with a light chuckle, “It’s the student council’s duty. I have to escort all students out of the dorm and back to the classroom.”
Lin Ji turned around, leaning her hand on the corner of the table next to her, and slightly raised an eyebrow. Her tone was flat, carrying a hint of distance: “You just said you finished checking the sixth floor, so you must be checking slowly from the sixth floor down. Why don’t you finish checking the dorms first when you’ve rested enough? I might already be done showering and back in the classroom. Why waste time waiting here?”
Ji Baixing showed no embarrassment or awkwardness at being found out. She nodded as if suddenly realizing something: “You’re right.”
Just as Lin Ji was about to turn and walk towards the balcony, Ji Baixing’s words followed her: “However, I’m not the only one checking the dorms. I’m done after checking the sixth floor.”
“Take your time showering. I’m not in a hurry.” Ji Baixing smiled at Lin Ji, her tone full of genuine concern, “You just had a fever, so your body must still be weak. We can go back to the classroom together, and I can look after you on the way.”
“I’ve recovered very well, so that probably won’t be necessary,” Lin Ji said flatly. She couldn’t understand Ji Baixing.
It was clearly an endless source of trouble to cross paths with Lin Ji. Logically, Ji Baixing, as the female lead, should avoid her. Yet, Ji Baixing was approaching her as if nothing were wrong.
“That might not be entirely certain. Lin, you are famously not in the best of health, running to the infirmary every few days. As the class president, I’m quite aware of this.” Ji Baixing suddenly tilted her head towards Lin Ji, feigning surprise, “You’re not afraid that I’ll do something to you here, are you?”
“Although you often oppose me and have done some not-so-good things… please rest assured, those things didn’t affect me much, and I’m not someone who takes everything to heart. I won’t do anything I shouldn’t to you.”
It was Lin Ji’s turn to be speechless. She uncomfortably pursed her lips, turned her head away, and said dryly, “No, I didn’t think that.”
As if feeling helpless about the situation, Lin Ji sighed slightly: “Do as you wish. I’m going in.”
Ji Baixing smiled: “Okay.”
Lin Ji didn’t make Ji Baixing wait too long. She lathered up again, rinsed off thoroughly, and came out.
The hair she had tied into a bun was pulled down. Her naturally curly black long hair was draped over her shoulders in a few strands, which were then tucked behind her ears. The ends of her hair were wet, and a few strands of her bangs were also damp, creating a hazy and clear look that gave Lin Ji an undeserved sense of misty, distant beauty.
Ji Baixing subconsciously looked toward Lin Ji’s direction, but averted her eyes after only a glance and stood up to turn off the air conditioner.
“The school doesn’t allow girls to wear their hair down. You should know that, right?” Ji Baixing pulled open the dorm door and stood outside waiting for her.
Lin Ji acknowledged her with a simple sound, biting a black hair tie between her teeth. She ran her hands through her hair, then gathered the top half of her hair from behind her ears and tied it into a half-ponytail.
After tidying up a few stray hairs near her ears, Lin Ji lowered her eyes, lightly combed the ends of her hair with a brush, and then finally looked up and walked toward the door.
“Let’s go,” Lin Ji said.
The two entered the classroom one after the other. It was the lunch break, and most of the students in the class were resting with their heads down on their desks. Only one or two were still working on problems on their worksheets.
Lin Ji went back to her seat by herself. She had slept all morning and had no desire to sleep now. So, she propped up her chin and flipped through the scattered worksheets on her desk one by one.
It was better not to look. After seeing them, even though Lin Ji knew these were her own test papers, she couldn’t help but get angry and want to curse herself out.
Chinese: 23 points. 20 of those points were the absurdly exaggerated essay score, and the remaining 3 points were from the only multiple-choice question she got right on the entire test. Next was math, a score she wouldn’t even dare to imagine: zero.
She didn’t even guess a single multiple-choice question correctly. She didn’t know whether to call it good or bad luck.
Lin Ji took a deep breath. She didn’t really want to look at the remaining test papers. She rummaged through her desk, pulled out a pen that was barely usable, and started working on the math test first.
With the college entrance exam fast approaching, everything else was secondary. Studying was the top priority.
[? What is going on? She gets a fever, wakes up after a sleep, and has a complete change of heart?]
[Well, that’s too late for a change of heart. There’s only one month left until the college entrance exam. There’s no way she can catch up, right?]
Lin Ji saw the words floating in the air. Her hand, which was calculating a problem, paused, but then she continued calculating seriously, pretending not to see them.
The moment she woke up in the infirmary, she was astonishingly aware of one thing.
Her world might be a fictional story. And she was a foolish and vicious supporting female character, used as a tool to highlight the female lead’s various excellent qualities, only to be defeated by the female lead and meet a bad end.
And these words could probably be understood as “bullet comments” from people watching a TV show, movie, or live stream.
The situation she was in currently was probably a live stream. But not all content was streamed, such as private areas like the bathroom.
Lin Ji pondered the memories in her mind. In this world, she had a script. Following the original storyline, she would likely disappear after the college entrance exam. She didn’t know if the conscious her could deviate from the original character setting and storyline, but she didn’t want to just wait for disaster.
At least for now, the people behind the bullet comments only thought she was sick, had a fever, and had a change of heart. They didn’t think she was out of control.
Furthermore, she hadn’t encountered any obstacles limiting her behavior yet.
Perhaps, she was free?
Lin Ji’s expression was calm. While thinking, she solved the problem and corrected the answer on the test paper.
—
It was the final month before the college entrance exam. Liberal Arts Class 1 was the best class in Linjiang No. 1 High School. The three rounds of review had already been completed, and their progress was unimaginably fast.
Therefore, there wasn’t much special material left to cover in the last month. They mainly distributed test papers, worked on problems, and then collectively reviewed the questions that needed explanation. One or two classes passed like this.
Normally, Lin Ji at this time would either be sitting in the back row staring blankly out the window, sleeping at her desk, or simply absent from her seat.
But today was slightly strange.
Lin Ji sat upright, doing problems from the first class in the afternoon until the last class, not even moving during the breaks.
Some people curiously craned half their bodies out toward Lin Ji’s direction, trying to figure out what she was doing, but they didn’t have the guts. They just lowered their heads and their voices, discussing with those around them.
“She’s not doing problems, is she?” The speaker was Sheng Sheng, the English class representative.
Sitting next to her was Zhang Yu, the History class representative. Zhang Yu immediately waved his hand: “Impossible! Absolutely impossible! Whether she can even do them is the question!”
“Then what do you think she’s doing? All afternoon, she’s been writing with her head down, her pen hasn’t stopped,” the people around them also asked.
High school seniors spent the entire year focused on test questions. Any slight, unusual stir would excite them, making them want to investigate and find some amusement.
“She’s not writing a love letter to that Li Yu, is she…”
Before Zhang Yu could finish his sentence, his desk was tapped.
Ji Baixing stood at his desk, holding the Chinese special practice assignments she had just collected. She said warmly to Zhang Yu, “I’m collecting the short test papers we did this afternoon. Please hand in your deskmate’s as well.”
“Ah, okay, Class President!” Zhang Yu immediately handed his test paper to Ji Baixing, then turned to rush his deskmate, “Hurry, hurry, your test paper, hand it in, hand it in.”
Sheng Sheng gave her test paper to Zhang Yu. When Ji Baixing moved to collect papers further down, Sheng Sheng nudged her deskmate: “Hey, do you think the Class President will go and collect Lin Ji’s?”
“Even if she asks, Lin Ji might not give it to her. Besides, Lin Ji hates the Class President. She’ll probably be chased away before she even gets there,” Zhang Yu said.
Ji Baixing quickly reached the last row. She stood not far from Lin Ji, her gaze falling on Lin Ji’s desk.
She seemed to really want to know what Lin Ji was writing, but she also hesitated, wondering whether she should go over and ask.
Zhang Yu was right. Based on Lin Ji’s previous level of hatred for her, Lin Ji would probably chase her away before she could even get close.
While Ji Baixing was still hesitating, Lin Ji looked up.
“I’m not finished yet. I’ll hand it in to the teacher myself later.”
Ji Baixing returned to her senses: “Oh, okay.”
She walked toward the back door, carrying the papers in her hands, but suddenly looked back at Lin Ji: “Teacher Ai said you can hand it in before the end of the second evening self-study session. Take your time writing. No rush.”
Lin Ji replied without lifting her head: “M-hm, okay. Thank you.”
