The Wheelchair Scum Alpha Has Something to Say (GL) - Chapter 1
Chapter 001: Yunhai City’s Most Famous Cripple
It was well-known that the heir of the Bai family in Yunhai City was a cripple. Although she was an Alpha, her legs were permanently disabled, forcing her to rely on a wheelchair for life. No matter how powerful or wealthy her family was, who would truly respect her?
It was only Chen Mengyi who suffered.
Chen Mengyi was the youngest daughter of the Chen family, a nouveau riche family that had latched onto the Bai family. When Chen Mengyi’s biological parents heard that the Bai family had a disabled heir, they hurriedly sent their young Omega daughter to the Bai family.
The Bai family actually had many options; they could have found an Omega whose family background matched their own for their heir. But such an Omega might not look favorably upon the Bai family’s cripple. Cripple or not, the Bai family doted on her, treating her like a treasure in their palms. If they found an Omega like that, and she ended up upsetting their daughter, wouldn’t they just be asking for trouble?
After much deliberation, they decided it was better to accept the young Chen girl, Chen Mengyi.
It is said that they were only twelve years old when they first met. Chen Mengyi had just completed her differentiation, becoming an Omega, when her parents informed her that they had already arranged her future engagement. Her luggage was packed and she was sent to the Bai family.
It was on this day that Chen Mengyi met the Bai family’s heir—Bai Yue.
As rumored outside, Bai Yue was disabled. For unknown reasons, when she was six years old, she was suddenly diagnosed with a pheromone disorder. It didn’t have many other serious effects, but due to the pheromones, her legs lost all sensation and she could never stand up again.
Chen Mengyi laboriously carried a heavy suitcase, following the Bai family’s butler from the main entrance. As they entered the corridor next to the atrium, she saw a maid pushing Bai Yue, who was sitting in the grassy area within the atrium.
The sun shone down from above, its light softly falling on her. In that moment, Bai Yue appeared very faint, like a wisp of wind in the air, unsure of when she might be blown away.
The early autumn air was cool, and a blanket was draped over her legs. She leaned back in the wheelchair, wearing only a thin white shirt. Her neat, medium-length hair was spread across her neck, which made her face look even more delicate.
Perhaps hearing a sound, Bai Yue looked over towards Chen Mengyi.
Chen Mengyi had heard many things about Bai Yue: arrogant, conceited, and made completely brutal by her sudden illness. She expected to see a pair of malicious eyes, but in reality, those eyes were very bright and filled with light.
The moment Bai Yue saw Chen Mengyi, she seemed to know her identity—the fiancée sold to her by the Chen family. Realizing this, Bai Yue grabbed her wheelchair and spun around, then pressed a button, and the wheelchair sped quickly toward Chen Mengyi.
The Bai family’s lawn was very flat, probably because they knew Bai Yue often came here to sunbathe, which allowed the wheelchair to zip around without a single bump. Even so, there was still a small step between the lawn and the corridor. Normally, Bai Yue would have no trouble controlling the wheelchair to cross it.
But Bai Yue seemed overly excited, so the wheelchair wheel caught at the junction of the corridor floor and the lawn, causing the wheelchair to tip forward directly. A momentary look of foolish surprise appeared on Bai Yue’s face, and Chen Mengyi thought, this is bad. Out of instinct, she caught the falling Bai Yue.
However, Bai Yue’s momentum was great, and Chen Mengyi’s strength was not as great, resulting in Chen Mengyi having to hug Bai Yue as both of them tumbled to the ground. The suitcase she had been carrying was also thrown three meters away as she rushed to catch Bai Yue.
The two fell heavily together. Chen Mengyi looked up, watching the wheelchair about to crash down on them.
If it hit her, she might have to visit the hospital on her very first day at the Bai family home.
Fortunately, the butler was not just for show. As the wheelchair tipped towards them, the butler firmly grabbed it and, together with the maid who rushed up behind, stabilized the wheelchair.
Chen Mengyi breathed a sigh of relief; at least she didn’t have to go to the hospital on the first day. Just as she was thinking this, she saw Bai Yue, who was on top of her, use her arms to move away slightly. Her senseless legs fell to the ground, and she settled herself directly on the side. She smiled at Chen Mengyi.
“Hello, are you Chen Mengyi? I’m Bai Yue. It’s nice to meet you. From now on, we’re friends!”
—Who said we’re friends?
The person in front of her was her fiancée, yet she was talking about being friends. Chen Mengyi felt the world was somewhat surreal, but soon, Chen Mengyi saw Bai Yue extending her hand toward her. She was supporting herself only on two hands, and because she wanted to shake hands, she had to struggle to support herself with just one hand.
Seeing Bai Yue like this, Chen Mengyi could only reach out and shake hands with her.
After that, the maid and the butler helped Bai Yue up and placed her back in her wheelchair. Bai Yue waved to Chen Mengyi: “I have something else to do here. See you later!”
Bai Yue left, and Chen Mengyi was taken by the butler to continue meeting Bai Yue’s mother. She watched Bai Yue’s different route until her silhouette disappeared.
That was Chen Mengyi’s first impression of Bai Yue: she was completely different from the rumors. She didn’t have the slightest trace of gloom from her illness; instead, she was cheerful and looked as if she had no worries at all.
“Speaking of which, I recall Chen Mengyi was twelve when she entered the Bai family. She’s twenty-six now, fourteen years have passed in the blink of an eye. When are they finally getting married?”
This was a frequently discussed topic at high society banquets in Yunhai City. When someone asked the question, others naturally chimed in, the light of the chandelier reflecting on the swirling red wine in their glasses, as rustling whispers filled the banquet hall:
“Heh, marriage is hard to say. Now, Chen Mengyi is a highly sought-after new star. Not only did she swallow up all of the Chen family’s assets, but the Bai family is also under her control. The child bride they intended to marry in has now turned their own daughter into a caged bird. I wonder if the Bai family’s former head of the household would leap out of their grave in fury if they knew?”
They laughed while discussing these things, which were already old news in Yunhai City. Chen Mengyi had followed Bai Yue’s mother to learn how to manage the company during her university years at the age of twenty-one. By twenty-three, she became the CEO. When Bai Yue’s two mothers died in an accident at twenty-five, a year had passed since Chen Mengyi took complete control of the Bai family.
Just as they said, Chen Mengyi, the “child bride,” had instead become the one who wielded wealth and power, while her fiancée, Bai Yue, the Alpha, was like a canary in her hands.
But these people absolutely dared not bring up the phrase “child bride” in front of Chen Mengyi and Bai Yue. If they did, that cripple Bai Yue might just try to stand up, banging her wheelchair, to punch the speaker; and Chen Mengyi would just smile sweetly while making the other person pay the price.
“But aren’t she and Bai Yue perfectly suited? Which Omega is like her? She hangs around a bunch of Alphas, laughs all day long like a smiling tiger, who could possibly want her?”
“And get this, I heard she’s incredibly strong. Many tabloids have photographed her personally carrying Bai Yue. Even though Bai Yue is a cripple, she’s still an Alpha, with her height and weight. Yet Chen Mengyi carries her effortlessly. What Alpha would want an Omega like that?”
The whispering abruptly stopped because the two people at the center of their conversation had entered the banquet hall. In front, naturally, was the wheelchair. Despite modern technological advances, Bai Yue was sitting in a standard, manually-pushed wheelchair.
The wheels of the chair rubbed against the floor, making a soft rumble-rumble sound. A person sat on the wheelchair, wearing a white shirt with an open collar that featured a begonia flower embroidery precisely at the neckline. The cuffs also had a special design: an outward-flaring bell-shape with a ribbon closure connecting to the straight sleeve body.
She wore a cotton-linen skirt that looked very comfortable, with a high-waist design that neatly tucked the bottom half of her top beneath the skirt. On her feet were a pair of beige, gold-rimmed high heels adorned with leaf-shaped lace.
This was a business dinner, and Bai Yue was dressed a little too casually. But considering Bai Yue’s condition, her presence at all was a huge honor for the host.
Compared to the casually dressed Bai Yue, Chen Mengyi behind her was distinctly more formal. Her long hair was draped over her back without any special styling, but her dress was exceptionally striking. The top was a gathered, corset-like bustier style, while the bottom was a straight, full-draped long skirt with a high slit up the thigh.
It was also color-blocked: the top was white over a subtle blue pattern, and the skirt also had two layers: a white underskirt covered by a denim-blue outer skirt. The sleeveless dress made her upper body look a bit bare, so she draped a black silk shawl over her shoulders, bringing the whole look to life.
The reason her attire was called exaggerated was due to the accessories around her neck, arms, and waist.
At the color-block seam of the dress, she used gold to create a swallow-adorned belt, with several chains hanging down. The swallows’ mouths, along with the chains, were accented with ruby jewels. A ruby necklace was also hung around her neck. The gem sparkled under the lights, clearly not a common item.
Combined with the bright red lipstick on her lips, Chen Mengyi looked like a cluster amaryllis, enchantingly beautiful and deadly.
Compared to the dazzling Chen Mengyi, Bai Yue, with no accessories at all, appeared somewhat pitiful.
This kind of appearance would surely invite another round of criticism from this group of high-society people. But the same people who were privately disparaging the pair moments ago now picked up their wine glasses and walked towards them.
“Miss Chen, Miss Bai, it’s truly an honor to see you today…”
“Miss Chen, it’s not easy to meet you. Our company’s collaboration proposal from before…”
“Miss Chen…”
One “Miss Chen” after another, making it seem as if Chen Mengyi was the main character of this banquet.
As for Bai Yue… ah, the most famous cripple in Yunhai City, who would bother to pay attention to her at a time like this?
