The Wheelchair Scum Alpha Has Something to Say (GL) - Chapter 10
Chapter 010: Use This to Cover Up
Bai Yue’s diet had to be light, low in oil and salt, with chili, Sichuan peppercorns, and the like completely forbidden. Eating this bland food three hundred and sixty-five days a year, Bai Yue felt like her tail had no taste left.
Looking at the dishes in front of her, she couldn’t help but murmur: “Mengyi, do you usually eat only this kind of food too?”
Bai Yue’s intention was to complain to Chen Mengyi because she assumed Chen Mengyi must be secretly indulging in delicious food. After all, she was the one who was sick, not Chen Mengyi. If Chen Mengyi ate these bland dishes with her but didn’t treat herself to something tasty when alone, Bai Yue felt Chen Mengyi was depriving herself.
It turned out Bai Yue was judging a virtuous person with a petty mind, as Chen Mengyi nodded without hesitation: “I usually eat this too.”
Strictly speaking, these dishes couldn’t be called “just this.” These dishes were prepared by a master chef; being light and palatable was the bare minimum. Moreover, to prevent Bai Yue from getting tired of them, the menu changed daily. They were constantly alternated and prioritized freshness.
In spring, they ate various newly harvested green vegetables. In summer, water chestnut cake and other pastries were plentiful. In autumn, even with Bai Yue’s dietary restrictions, she would occasionally be sought out a few hairy crabs to satisfy her craving. In winter, all kinds of hot pots were available, so it was definitely not the same boiled cabbage every day.
It was just that in her previous life, she had too many hot pots, barbecues, skewers, and often indulged in milk tea and small cakes, a life too comfortable, making Bai Yue slightly unable to tolerate such blandness.
Chen Mengyi had no need to eat this kind of food with Bai Yue; she ate lunch at the company and could completely follow her own preferences. But Chen Mengyi thought that if Bai Yue only ate plain porridge and small side dishes at home, and she secretly ate delicious food behind her back, Bai Yue would surely be hurt.
She might even accuse her now, saying she was a bad person.
Hearing Chen Mengyi say that she also ate lightly, Bai Yue felt a little embarrassed. If she were the only one eating blandly while Chen Mengyi ate delicious food behind her back, she could righteously complain. Although Chen Mengyi wasn’t sick, and making her eat lightly was for her own good. But if Chen Mengyi was secretive about it, Bai Yue could complain a bit.
Now that Chen Mengyi ate blandly even when not in front of her, Bai Yue had no nerve to complain.
“Then, then you can eat other things sometimes.”
Chen Mengyi found Bai Yue’s guilty expression utterly adorable, as Bai Yue had guessed why Chen Mengyi ate such bland food even when she wasn’t around. It was because Chen Mengyi also felt bad for Bai Yue. If one person only ate unpleasant food, they would feel pathetic, but if someone accompanied them, they wouldn’t feel so miserable.
For this reason, Chen Mengyi had consistently, for ten years, eaten the same food as Bai Yue, even when Bai Yue couldn’t see her.
“Other things? Like what?”
Facing Chen Mengyi’s question, Bai Yue answered honestly without thinking: “Hot pot, barbecue, small skewers, seafood, Japanese cuisine, Xinjiang Big Plate Chicken.” It was clear that Bai Yue was genuinely craving food, and very badly so. Seeing her like this, Chen Mengyi picked up another piece of cabbage and placed it in her bowl.
“I think you’re the one who wants to eat.”
Bai Yue looked at the cabbage in her bowl, her expression turning slightly bitter. She pouted: “I do want to eat.”
“Seafood is out of the question. Those are heat-generating foods and are bad for your health.” Hearing Chen Mengyi’s same old line, Bai Yue’s expression slowly dimmed. She wasn’t intentionally trying to give Chen Mengyi a look, but having been spoiled, she wasn’t very good at controlling her facial expressions.
To be honest, being a cripple was indeed tough, not just because she couldn’t eat what she wanted, but also because of the many inconveniences in daily life. That’s why, after that voice in her mind spoke, Bai Yue was eager to complete the mission and return to the real world.
Although she would be poor in that world and wouldn’t have someone as caring and supportive as Chen Mengyi, at least she would be healthy.
Just as Bai Yue was lost in thought, Chen Mengyi suddenly said: “Big Plate Chicken and barbecue can be considered. How about this, Yueyue? During this month’s physical examination, we’ll ask the doctor. If the doctor says it’s okay, we’ll have a barbecue at home.”
“Really?” Bai Yue’s eyes lit up. Chen Mengyi smiled faintly and nodded: “Yes. When have I ever lied to you?”
Chen Mengyi had truly never lied to Bai Yue, which made Bai Yue even happier: “I feel great this whole time; I’m doing well. Just wait for the barbecue!”
After lunch, Chen Mengyi pressed Bai Yue to take a short nap. She told Bai Yue: “Even if you go now without napping, you won’t see anyone. Yueyue shouldn’t want to be that annoying boss, right? People need to rest too.”
Bai Yue thought about it; that was true. When she was working in her past life, the time she hated the most was when work suddenly came up during her lunch break, or when a superior insisted she finish something during that time. She didn’t want to be disliked by her employees for no reason, and she didn’t want to be that annoying person.
So, she naturally accepted Chen Mengyi’s suggestion and slept for a while on the small bed in the adjoining lounge of her office. Chen Mengyi’s small bed was spotless, odorless, and didn’t have the scent of sage on it.
Bai Yue had a habit of napping, and after having lunch and chatting with Chen Mengyi, she was even sleepier. But without the familiar scent of sage, Bai Yue felt a little unaccustomed. Chen Mengyi occupied a very large proportion of her daily life; even her own bedroom was permeated with Chen Mengyi’s scent.
Not to mention environments like the dining room and the car; the sage scent was an essential part of her life.
Yet, this was clearly Chen Mengyi’s lounge, but it had no trace of Chen Mengyi’s scent. Bai Yue could easily guess that Chen Mengyi never rested here during the day. It made sense; Chen Mengyi had a bit of a workaholic tendency, but she inevitably left on time to rush home and eat dinner with her. How could she ever use this small lounge?
“Liar, you said you napped too…”
Bai Yue tossed and turned for a while before finally drifting off. She was also curious about what Chen Mengyi was doing without taking a nap. Bai Yue vaguely knew the answer—she was definitely working. She arrived so late in the morning, was immediately called away by her assistant, and then ate lunch with Bai Yue right on time. She definitely had unfinished work.
If she were disrupting someone else’s work like this, Bai Yue would feel a little embarrassed, but since she was disrupting Chen Mengyi, her conscience was clear. Bai Yue slept until almost 2 PM before being woken up by Chen Mengyi.
“Yueyue, didn’t you want to see how to invest in a movie?”
Bai Yue mumbled “Mmm,” then got out of bed with Chen Mengyi’s help, quickly washed her face and rinsed her mouth, and was then wheeled downstairs by Chen Mengyi. It wasn’t until they were heading to the Group’s subsidiary entertainment company that she felt a sense of reality, vaguely excited.
Since Bai Yue had never been to the entertainment company, Chen Mengyi deliberately led her through the main entrance. Upon entering the company lobby, Bai Yue saw glamorous men and women coming and going, but also smelled a complex mix of scents. Bai Yue involuntarily shrank back; she truly felt the outside world was too dangerous now.
In the ABO worldview, Alphas and Omegas all had scents. Most people walking on regular streets were Betas, and open spaces didn’t have such a strong smell. But an entertainment company, a company with such clear tendencies, found the minority sexes of Alpha and Omega to be the most popular stars.
So… the glamorous men and women constantly moving through the entertainment company’s lobby were the minority sexes, and they all carried their own unique scents. These scents, mixed together, were not pleasant. Normally, everyone would take suppressants. This was both to prevent their pheromones from leaking and to prevent being assaulted by others’ pheromones.
Pheromones were a complex thing. For an Omega, they were a tool to attract an Alpha; the same was true for an Alpha. But if both people were Alphas, pheromones became a weapon. Alphas could naturally use pheromones to judge each other’s hierarchy.
Bai Yue was somewhat special. Due to her health, she couldn’t easily use pheromone suppressants and only used them for specific occasions. Moreover, most people took pheromone suppressants anyway, so even if Bai Yue didn’t, it wouldn’t have much of an impact.
However, an entertainment company was a place of fierce competition, and here, for both Omegas and Alphas, pheromones were a weapon they could use to gain an advantage.
They not only didn’t restrain their pheromones but flaunted them aggressively, like a peacock spreading its tail. However, they had taken one-way pheromone suppressants to ensure others’ pheromones wouldn’t easily affect them.
Bai Yue couldn’t help but cover her nose, but the scent still stung the gland at the back of her neck. Her gland felt itchy, but years of training prevented her from touching her gland in public. Just then, Chen Mengyi handed her a handkerchief.
“Yueyue, use this to cover your nose.”
Bai Yue took it. Although she didn’t think a handkerchief would help, she obediently held it over her nose. In that moment, Chen Mengyi’s sage pheromone surged forward, covering up all the surrounding smells.
Bai Yue’s condition rapidly improved, but her ears turned red.
—This is too perverted of me! And how could Mengyi casually give someone a handkerchief contaminated with her pheromones!
