The Wheelchair Scum Alpha Has Something to Say (GL) - Chapter 7
Chapter 007: Heading to the Company
I should have known better than to agree to eat breakfast with Chen Mengyi! Bai Yue couldn’t help but complain to herself every time she wanted to sleep in.
When they were both in school, they naturally ate together every day. But once they entered university, their schedules no longer matched up. Bai Yue’s major was relatively relaxed, with usually only a few classes per day. Chen Mengyi, however, not only had a full schedule but also frequent extracurricular activities and was often taken directly to the company by Bai Yue’s mothers to learn the business.
From then on, they often didn’t eat together. Unlike in middle and high school, when they were inseparable for all three meals, they often couldn’t find time for lunch and dinner.
Chen Mengyi, upon realizing this, looked like a puppy abandoned by its owner, with drooping ears in front of Bai Yue. That pitiful look was heartbreaking to see. Bai Yue had no choice but to agree to her: “How about breakfast? We’ll eat together in the morning.”
Only after Bai Yue said this did Chen Mengyi cheer up again. From then on, they would inevitably eat breakfast together.
Even on mornings when Bai Yue didn’t have class, Chen Mengyi would drag her up to eat together. Even after graduation, and with Chen Mengyi going to work every day, this habit never changed.
Bai Yue was certainly willing to eat with Chen Mengyi, but Chen Mengyi’s work hours started really early.
She had to be at the company promptly at 8:50 AM, and the Bai family home was located in the suburbs, where the air was fresh and the environment was good, backed by a small mountain—a veritable paradise for Bai Yue. But for Chen Mengyi, who had to commute to the central business district every morning, it was a nightmare. Even without traffic, it took forty to fifty minutes to drive from the Bai family home. But in the morning rush hour of Yunhai City, there was no way to avoid traffic, so that time had to be doubled directly, to at least eighty or ninety minutes.
In other words, Chen Mengyi had to leave the house around 7:20 AM, and with twenty minutes for breakfast, she had to be downstairs by seven o’clock.
For Bai Yue to have breakfast with Chen Mengyi, she had to wake up at 6:30 AM, and Chen Mengyi’s wake-up time was even earlier. Bai Yue wanted to persuade Chen Mengyi to just find a place to live near the company; Chen Mengyi certainly had the money.
Although Bai Yue suggested it two or three times, Chen Mengyi simply smiled and refused.
Bai Yue, a completely idle person with nothing to do all day, had to wake up at 6:30 every morning. Bai Yue felt she had true love for Chen Mengyi. To eat one breakfast, she got up this early from Monday to Friday, rain or shine. Could anyone else do that?
Complaining aside, Bai Yue still obediently got out of bed. Chen Mengyi carried Bai Yue onto the electric wheelchair, and Bai Yue pressed the button to go to the bathroom to wash up. Bai Yue’s bathroom sinks were custom-made, with a floating design that allowed her to roll the wheelchair right up to them, with her legs resting below the sink, and her head extended out to wash.
This sink had been replaced countless times since Bai Yue transmigrated, because Bai Yue also grew taller. Even the wheelchairs were gradually replaced from children’s size to the current one, and the height and size of the sink also had to be changed.
It was a good thing the Bai family was rich. If Bai Yue had transmigrated as a cripple in a poor family… well, she’d rather restart.
It wasn’t that Bai Yue despised poverty or anything, but she was already paralyzed. If her circumstances were also extremely poor, Bai Yue truly wouldn’t be able to bear it.
She actually knew that the government offered a lot of subsidies and help for people with disabilities like her. She had the disability certificate and the monthly allowance. Although the subsidy was negligible for her, it was a great help to poor families. She knew her relief was a bit ugly, but being paralyzed, she couldn’t help but have these thoughts. She hoped she could be forgiven.
After brushing her teeth, washing her face, and applying moisturizer, Bai Yue came out of the bathroom. The room had already been tidied up, and the bed was made. A set of clothes was laid out on the bed. That must be what she was supposed to wear today.
Bai Yue had no specific demands for her clothing. If it were in her previous life, she could wear pajamas all day if she didn’t leave the house. Now, with Chen Mengyi styling her, it saved her some trouble. It was time for Bai Yue to change, so Chen Mengyi left the bedroom first, letting the maid help Bai Yue change.
Only after Bai Yue was changed did Chen Mengyi come back in, waiting for Bai Yue to go out to the dining room together.
At home, Bai Yue actually didn’t need anyone to push her wheelchair. The reason she used a manual wheelchair instead of an electric one when they went out yesterday was that the electric wheelchair’s noise could be a bit loud, which would be inappropriate for the host and guests.
I’m still not powerful enough. If the Bai family were the kind of family that made the whole of Yunhai City tremble with a stomp of their foot, not only could she attend the banquet in an electric wheelchair, but no one would say a word if she did a Thomas flare spin in the banquet hall while riding it.
However, a behemoth like that didn’t exist in this world, and the government wouldn’t allow the emergence of an overly powerful commercial empire. So, street dancing in the ballroom could only exist in Bai Yue’s imagination.
She rolled all the way to the dining room, and Chen Mengyi, following behind her, also sat down. Bai Yue ate a few bites of breakfast, her mind consumed with thoughts of sabotaging the movie Su Xi was planning to invest in.
Bai Yue was not involved in the company’s affairs at all right now, completely acting as a hands-off boss. Chen Mengyi was nominally the Executive President, but in reality, she was no different from the actual owner. If Chen Mengyi wanted to secretly transfer shares to herself, Bai Yue would be completely unaware.
However, Chen Mengyi wouldn’t do that, and even if she did, Bai Yue wouldn’t care, as she was going to give everything to her anyway.
The small problem now was that she didn’t handle the company’s affairs, and she knew nothing about investing in films or planting people. So how was she supposed to operate? Bai Yue fell silent. She looked at Chen Mengyi beside her and took another bite of the shrimp dumpling in her bowl.
The chefs at the Bai family were highly paid. The shrimp dumplings were truly delicious. The skin was thin, the filling was plentiful, and the shrimp meat inside was very bouncy. Most importantly, the shrimp was excellently prepared, without any fishiness. The dipping sauce was also specially made by the chef, containing minced garlic, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, white sugar, white sesame seeds, chopped green onions, and black pepper. Normally, a bit of chili oil would be added, but Chen Mengyi had the chef remove it, citing Bai Yue’s poor health and unsuitability for spicy food.
When Chen Mengyi wasn’t home, the chef would swap the seasoning for Bai Yue, using chili powder, sesame seeds, minced garlic, chopped green onions, and oyster sauce, then drizzling hot oil over it. The smell was incredibly fragrant.
Eating the dipping sauce without chili oil lacked a bit of flavor, but the chef’s skill was on point, and it was still delicious.
Bai Yue’s distracted appearance was too obvious for Chen Mengyi to ignore. However, silence during meals was a rule at the Bai family dining table, and she had long grown used to it. After finishing breakfast, she wiped her mouth with a napkin, and only when Bai Yue was nearly done did she speak: “Yueyue, is something on your mind? You look a bit distracted even when eating the shrimp dumplings.”
Normally, Bai Yue loved shrimp dumplings, often wanting to eat three baskets at once, but today she was absentminded and only ate one, which made Chen Mengyi quite curious.
Hearing Chen Mengyi’s question, Bai Yue subconsciously voiced her concern: “Can I come to the company to take a look?” Her mind was still turning: If I can’t access the relevant business, I can’t plant someone in the movie Su Xi is investing in, and I can’t cause trouble for Su Xi. Ultimately, I still have to go to the company to see things!
Bai Yue had never made such a request before. Chen Mengyi was somewhat surprised but still smiled: “Yueyue wants to go to the company to take a look? Of course. There’s no ‘can I’ about it. Yueyue can go anywhere she wants.”
Bai Yue immediately let out a sigh of relief when Chen Mengyi agreed. Her strange demeanor raised many questions in Chen Mengyi’s mind. But Bai Yue wasn’t willing to talk about it now, and Chen Mengyi didn’t intend to ask directly. As long as they went to the company, her little thoughts would reveal themselves.
Chen Mengyi understood her personality very well.
If the other person were someone other than Bai Yue and had complex motives, Chen Mengyi might have wondered: Is she dissatisfied with me, or does she want to control the company and take power from my hands? But the person opposite her was Bai Yue. Even if Chen Mengyi voluntarily stepped down and let Bai Yue take the position and manage the company, Bai Yue would wave her hand and refuse.
Besides, why was Chen Mengyi working herself to death running the company? Wasn’t it all for Bai Yue?
Oh, she also admitted that she had a bit of a workaholic ambition herself. The Bai family also cultivated her this way; they welcomed her into the family precisely to let her take charge and run the company. It could only be said that both sides were perfectly compatible. If some random person suddenly rushed out now and proposed to Chen Mengyi, asking her to be a full-time housewife, Chen Mengyi would surely give them a clean slap across the face.
Are you kidding? Her battlefield was in the business world, not the kitchen at home.
However, if it was for Bai Yue that she had to cook, then that might be acceptable.
After finishing breakfast, it was exactly 7:20 AM. Chen Mengyi checked Bai Yue’s outfit, decided it was fine for going out, and took Bai Yue outside to get into the car. She first carried Bai Yue into the car, then folded the electric wheelchair and handed it to her assistant to put in the trunk.
The road from the Bai family home to the company was long. Halfway there, Bai Yue fell soundly asleep. Chen Mengyi saw her leaning against the window, her head nodding. She moved closer to Bai Yue, gently reached out her hand, and maneuvered Bai Yue to rest her head against her shoulder.
When Bai Yue woke up, they were already at the company building’s underground parking lot. She groggily lifted her head and saw a shiny spot on Chen Mengyi’s shoulder… No way?! Did I drool in my sleep?!
