Wang Sasa decided that she couldn’t soften her heart toward Tan Yixuan.

So, when Tan Yixuan invited her to her home again, she declined calmly, with a firm attitude, deliberately ignoring the look of disappointment on Tan Yixuan’s face.

Tan Yixuan lowered her gaze and said, “But Grandma has prepared a whole table of dishes waiting for you. Are you really not coming?”

Wang Sasa’s ears perked up. Grandma Tan’s cooking was quite good; it seemed a shame not to go.

Tan Yixuan sat beside her, lightly caressing her skin with her soft fingers, and asked softly, “Do you have plans for tonight?”

According to typical novel tropes, the romantic relationship between the protagonists isn’t smooth sailing and is often obstructed by various side characters. Given that their relationship was clearly not accepted in the book, Grandma  Tan would likely disapprove of them being together.

Just as she was thinking this, Tan Yixuan finished tidying up and went to the kitchen to wash dishes. Grandma Tan looked at her granddaughter’s back, then turned to Wang Sasa and said, “Sasa, come with me.”

Wang Sasa straightened up, her heart racing with anticipation. Excitedly, she followed Grandma Tan to the living room.

Is it finally happening? She hadn’t expected Grandma Tan to be the “villain” breaking her and Tan Yixuan apart! Tan Yixuan loved her grandmother so much; how could she bear to hurt her feelings? So, she just needed to listen to Grandma Tan’s heartfelt advice, pretend to cry a little, and then “reluctantly” break up with Tan Yixuan.

Grandma Tan, nervously glancing at the busy Tan Yixuan in the kitchen, took a red envelope from her coat pocket and handed it to Wang Sasa. “Here, a gift for you. Grandma doesn’t know what you like, so take this and buy something good to eat.”

Wang Sasa was momentarily stunned, her smile frozen on her face. She hesitated, “Grandma, what are you saying?”

Grandma Tan patted her hand and said kindly, “This path is not easy. You two girls need to take good care of yourselves. I’m old and don’t expect much. The most important thing is for my granddaughter to be happy.”

Wang Sasa couldn’t believe it. Grandma Tan had so easily accepted her granddaughter’s unconventional sexual orientation! Wasn’t there supposed to be a dramatic scene of crying, fussing, and despair? Could it be that all her novels were wrong?

Wang Sasa rubbed her temples, wondering if she had guessed wrong. Was the world in the book as open-minded as the real world?

When Tan Yixuan came out after washing the dishes, she saw Wang Sasa’s skeptical expression and couldn’t help but smile. “What’s wrong?”

Wang Sasa, holding the red envelope, quickly pulled Tan Yixuan to the balcony and said, “Grandma just gave me this…” She promptly took out the red envelope.

Tan Yixuan smiled and patted her head. “Grandma gave it to you, so just accept it. After all, we’re planning to be together for life, aren’t we?” Her delicate fingers couldn’t resist touching Wang Sasa’s fair cheek.

Wang Sasa glanced at the call that had been disconnected and felt a mix of frustration and comfort. It seemed that this world still rejected same-sex couples. When the time came, she could pretend to be a mama’s girl and break up with Tan Yixuan naturally. So, before her mom had a chance to react, she needed to deal with Tan Yixuan.

With this in mind, Wang Sasa firmly held Tan Yixuan’s hand, gazing at her with deep affection. “Tan Yixuan, no one can stop us now. Even our parents agree with our relationship.” She took a deep breath, blinked, and seriously asked, “So, are you happy?”

The question sounded a bit odd, but Tan Yixuan didn’t think much of it. She was deeply moved by Wang Sasa’s unexpected phone call. She knew that Wang Sasa’s identity didn’t permit them to be together, but she was still willing to be honest with her family and stand up for their relationship.

Hearing Wang Sasa’s question, Tan Yixuan couldn’t help but smile, her dark eyes shimmering. “With you by my side, I’m very happy.”

Just as she finished speaking, the world before Wang Sasa suddenly went dark for a moment. It felt as though all the light in the world had disappeared, and Wang Sasa was sure it wasn’t just her illusion; it was a real, brief darkness.

They were standing on a narrow balcony with a view of the brightly lit city below and the moonlight adding to the illumination, so that fleeting darkness made Wang Sasa swallow hard. She felt an inexplicable sense that the chance to return home was near, just waiting for her to open that book…

“Tan Yixuan, I want to go home,” Wang Sasa said decisively.

Tan Yixuan tensed up, nervously looking at her, gripping her arm tightly. After a moment, she slowly relaxed and smiled, “Why the rush? We just had dinner; let’s watch some TV first.” Tan Yixuan lightly touched her chest, feeling her heartbeat quicken and puzzled by her own reaction. She glanced at Wang Sasa, instinctively feeling she couldn’t let go.

If she let go, Wang Sasa might disappear.

Wang Sasa forced herself to suppress the urge to go home and nodded.

After staying for half an hour, she couldn’t sit still anymore and requested to take a taxi home. Tan Yixuan, unable to keep her, silently walked with her to the apartment building entrance.

The kitten meowed and glanced at Tan Yixuan. When Tan Yixuan let go, the black cat quickly wriggled free from her embrace and swiftly vanished into the dark bushes.

This minor distraction didn’t diminish Wang Sasa’s desire to go home.

As soon as she reached the community entrance, she hailed a taxi and waved goodbye to Tan Yixuan without looking back.

She was eager to see what changes had occurred in the book she had left at home, barely glancing back at Tan Yixuan.

The taxi drove away, and Tan Yixuan, standing in place, watched Wang Sasa’s figure disappear. She suddenly felt a pang of panic about losing something important, hesitated for a moment, and then grit her teeth, called a taxi to follow.

When Wang Sasa got out of the taxi and turned around, she was startled to see Tan Yixuan getting out of another car. She was almost scared to death by her.

Wang Sasa stared at her in shock. “Tan Yixuan, you…”

Tan Yixuan, unperturbed, casually walked over, intimately linking arms with her and smiling, “I’m coming home with you. Is that okay?”

Is it okay or not? Of course, it’s not okay! But with Tan Yixuan following her to her apartment, what reason did she have to turn her away?

Wang Sasa felt overwhelmed and could only force a stiff smile and nod.

The two of them walked hand in hand in silence. Wang Sasa opened the apartment door and, not daring to act rashly, pretended to be casual as she headed to the bathroom to freshen up. Brushing her teeth, washing her face, shampooing, and taking a shower, she went through her routine, which took an hour.

As she dried her hair, she stared silently at her reflection in the mirror. This face, she realized, had completely become her own. After drying her hair, Wang Sasa pushed aside the loose strands on her forehead, smiled faintly at the mirror, and walked out of the bathroom.

Tan Yixuan was already lying in bed waiting for her. Upon seeing her, she instinctively smiled, “Sasa.”

Wang Sasa didn’t dare to look at her, merely responding with a soft “Mm” before saying quietly, “You should sleep first. I have something to do.” With that, she grabbed a coat from the wardrobe, put it on, and headed to the study.

Tan Yixuan watched her retreating figure, and a fleeting shadow of distress passed through her eyes. Silently, she got out of bed, went barefoot across the bedroom, and followed Wang Sasa’s steps.
