The Whole World Wants Them to Get a Divorce - Chapter 10
After leaving the Lu family, Si Yu found a high-end salon and changed her hair from the original character’s style to her old one.
When she was done, the hairstylist told her in an exaggerated tone, “Amazing! This style suits you so well!”
With a hairstyle that felt more like her, Si Yu felt like she was sparkling. But she wasn’t sure if Lu Xi would like it, since her looks were completely different from the protagonist, Liang Yufei.
Liang Yufei was the innocent, “first love” type, while Si Yu’s features were bold and striking. So she decided to greet Lu Xi with a bare face.
Lu Xi rarely showed her emotions, making it hard for others to read her. After being stared at for more than ten seconds, Si Yu couldn’t help but ask, “Do you like my new haircut?”
“It’s nice,” Lu Xi said.
Si Yu’s eyes lit up. It was worth spending a few hours and over a thousand dollars, she thought.
She pretended to be shy, lowered her eyes, and said in a sweet, soft voice, “I made some cookies. Do you want to try some?”
“No,” Lu Xi said, returning to her cold and unapproachable self.
Si Yu wasn’t discouraged. “Then I’ll put them in the fridge. You can get them if you want to eat them. But they don’t have preservatives, so they won’t taste as good after twenty-four hours.”
Lu Xi didn’t have the habit of eating at night and had no interest in snacks. As Si Yu picked up the container of cookies from the coffee table to put them in the fridge, she suddenly remembered what the housekeeper had told her. Her mind moved, and she said, “Wait.”
Si Yu turned around and looked at her blankly. “What is it?”
Lu Xi’s cold eyes swept over her bare face and then to the clear container in her hand. “Did you make these yourself?”
“I learned from Master Xie.” Master Xie was the Lu family’s private chef, who was skilled in Chinese, Western, and pastry-making. Si Yu had begged him to teach her how to make cookies today and brought some back. She shook the container. “Want to try some?”
Cookies of various shapes were inside the container. They looked pretty good. Lu Xi didn’t believe she had this skill.
“Are you afraid I’ll poison you?”
“…”
Si Yu opened the container, picked out a heart-shaped cookie, and held it to her mouth.
A faint buttery smell wafted over. Lu Xi’s eyes flickered. “I’ll get it myse—”
Before she could finish her sentence, Si Yu stuffed the cookie into her mouth without asking.
Lu Xi’s expression changed, but she couldn’t spit out something that was already in her mouth. She hesitated for a moment and then slowly chewed.
The cookie was soft and not too sweet. It tasted different from the ones sold in stores.
It was actually quite good.
“It’s not bad, right?” Si Yu said, looking for praise. “Grandma’s teeth aren’t very good, and she can’t eat too much sugar now that she’s older, so I specially made them like this. She loved them.”
After swallowing the food in her mouth, Lu Xi finally remembered and frowned slightly. “Did you wash your hands?”
Si Yu looked at her right hand, which had just held the cookie. “No.”
The corner of Lu Xi’s mouth twitched. She said through gritted teeth, “Si… Yu!”
“Don’t get too excited. You can’t break your cool persona,” Si Yu said, wisely taking a few steps back. She smiled mischievously. “I just showered when you came back. My hands are very clean. I was just teasing you.”
Lu Xi’s beautiful, icy face was on the verge of crumbling.
To avoid getting hit, Si Yu took the container and scurried into the kitchen.
It felt great to prank someone.
Si Yu had a good night’s sleep. She woke up feeling refreshed, got dressed, and ran into Lu Xi when she left her room.
She forced a smile that was brighter than the morning sun and waved. “Morning.”
Lu Xi gave her a cold look, held her head high, and went downstairs first.
Is she still mad? Si Yu scratched her head.
Aunt Zhao had already made breakfast and called for them to come and eat.
Aunt Zhao pushed the cookie container toward Lu Xi. “Miss Si made these. They’re very good,” she said cheerfully.
Lu Xi silently moved the container aside and served herself a bowl of mushroom and chicken congee.
Aunt Zhao looked at Si Yu, her face expressing a “sorry, I did my best to sell them” look of guilt.
Si Yu wanted to laugh but couldn’t because of a certain someone’s bad mood. “She already ate some last night. You should eat these yourself,” she said.
Aunt Zhao felt the subtle tension in the air. She suspected they had argued but didn’t dare ask. She took the cookie container and went to clean up the kitchen.
Si Yu knew she had upset her with the joke last night. She graciously peeled a hard-boiled egg and put it in Lu Xi’s bowl. “I really did wash my hands this time.”
The congee was hot, and Lu Xi ate slowly. She looked at the plump, white egg in her bowl, and her thin lips pursed into a line.
It was just a joke. Is it really that serious? Si Yu felt snubbed and started eating her congee.
Halfway through, she heard Lu Xi say, “Why are you up so early?”
It seems her anger has subsided.
Si Yu was secretly happy but kept a straight face. “I’m going to spend time with Grandma.”
Si Yu had been going to the Lu family house for the past few days, so Lu Xi was no longer surprised. She took a sip of congee and said nonchalantly, “Didn’t you say you were looking for a job?”
Si Yu was surprised that she was concerned about her job search. She suppressed her shock and said, “I am. I submitted my resume yesterday. I’m waiting for them to call me for an interview.”
Lu Xi didn’t think her expression looked like she was lying, but she was still suspicious. “Why are you suddenly looking for a job?”
“Sigh,” Si Yu let out a long sigh, put down her bowl, and looked straight at her. “For you, of course.”
“For me?”
“To make you see me in a new light,” Si Yu said. “The old me was lazy and good-for-nothing. I just lived off the inheritance my parents left me, waiting to die. I was a waste of space. Not to mention you, I hated myself like that. Now I get it. I want to work hard and prove myself. In the end, it’s for me, but I have to thank you.”
“Thank me?” Lu Xi couldn’t remember helping her.
“You brought up the divorce, which made me want to change,” Si Yu said, her face serious. She held Lu Xi’s hand. “You’re the one who made me wake up and inspired me. Lu Xi, you’re my guiding light, my most important life mentor, my second set of parents. I’m really, really grateful for you!”
After she finished speaking, two tears of gratitude rolled down her bare face.
Lu Xi was stunned. After a moment, she realized her hand was being held. She quickly pulled it away, lowered her eyes, and said with some annoyance, “Don’t talk when you’re eating.”
Si Yu, still in the middle of her self-directed play, looked at her mournfully. “But you’re the one who seduced me first.”
“Cough—” Lu Xi choked on her hot congee and glared at her. “What are you talking about?”
Si Yu said “Ah” and then, without any shame, “I mean, you were the one who started the conversation.”
Lu Xi ground her teeth, regretting that she had opened her mouth.
Si Yu was waiting for her to ask what company she had applied to or what kind of job she was looking for, but Lu Xi didn’t ask any more questions.
Her personality was truly unpredictable.
Despite the hint of acting, what Si Yu had just said was from the bottom of her heart.
Little B had told her about the original female supporting character’s assets. Besides a huge amount of cash, the female supporting character also held a 15% share in Guangying Entertainment. In terms of assets, the female supporting character was on par with Lu Xi, but their abilities were worlds apart.
Why would Lu Xi, a young, beautiful, and capable CEO, fall for a useless rich girl?
Lu Xi hadn’t mentioned the divorce again, probably because she was concerned about the old woman’s health. But the protagonist had appeared. If Lu Xi were to fall for her one day and decide to be with her no matter what, Si Yu would be completely screwed.
Si Yu remembered clearly in the novel that Lu Xi had a love-at-first-sight moment with the protagonist. She spent a fortune to get the protagonist out of her contract, invested in her movies, and spoiled her endlessly. It was a deep and passionate love.
With the protagonist as an unpredictable factor, Si Yu couldn’t just sit back and do nothing.
She had sent her resume and was waiting for the results.
Before she transmigrated into the novel, Si Yu was an actress. She had sent her resume to Guangying Entertainment’s artist management department.
On Friday, Guangying Entertainment called her and told her to come for an interview next Monday.
Si Yu was very confident in her acting skills and wasn’t worried about the interview at all.
The old woman kept nagging her to move her things over. Si Yu packed up and arrived at the Lu house around noon.
The housekeeper saw her and said with a warm smile, “You’re back? It’s very lively here today.”
Si Yu remembered the housekeeper’s wary and cold attitude when she first came here. She smiled knowingly and subconsciously asked, “Do you have guests?”
“Yes,” the housekeeper said. “The second miss is back. She also brought Miss Liang to play. She said it’s a good day to learn how to swim.”
Liang Yufei???
Si Yu went to the backyard and immediately saw Lu Wei and Liang Yufei standing by the pool in their bikinis.
And there was the tall and elegant Lu Xi, in her casual clothes.
Lu Wei tried to pull Liang Yufei into the water. “Try the shallow end first.”
“No, no, no, I’m scared,” Liang Yufei said, her face pale. In a moment of panic, she hugged Lu Xi’s arm and shivered. “I-I-I don’t think I’ll go in. I’ll just watch you swim.”
But Lu Wei said, “Are you saying I’m not a good enough swimmer to teach you?”
“I…” Liang Yufei looked at Lu Xi with a hesitant expression.
The sudden physical contact made Lu Xi uncomfortable. She pulled her arm away and said expressionlessly, “I was just passing by. You two have fun.”
“Big sis, don’t go. It’s so hot. Swimming is great. Come in with us,” Lu Wei said, blocking Lu Xi’s way.
They were a little far away, so Si Yu couldn’t hear what they were saying. All she could see was the sparkling water and the pale skin reflecting in the sunlight.
She squinted her eyes. She saw Liang Yufei trying to get closer to Lu Xi. She said to Little B slowly, “I don’t know if I’m overthinking this.”
Little B: “Overthinking what?”
“I’m thinking…” Si Yu rubbed her chin. “Doesn’t it look like the protagonist is trying to seduce Lu Xi?”
As an AI, Little B had no way of making that judgment. It said stiffly, “Then you should do something quickly… Where are you going?”
Si Yu rolled up her sleeves and walked back. She said with determination, “To change into my battle gear.”
Heh, if she’s going to use seduction, so will I!
