The Whole World Wants Them to Get a Divorce - Chapter 12
When Si Yu first transmigrated, Little B told her to capture Lu Xi’s heart, and Si Yu adamantly refused, because she felt that it was a very disloyal thing to do.
Little B said that at this point, Lu Xi had no feelings for the original protagonist, and according to the novel’s plot, they would only develop feelings for each other after the original female supporting character and Lu Xi divorced, during the filming of Liang Yufei’s second modern drama.
Si Yu was convinced.
Although she had been trying to win Lu Xi’s favor, she still felt guilty about the original protagonist and Liang Yufei.
But that guilt vanished when she saw Liang Yufei giving Lu Xi flirtatious looks, and trying to seduce her.
Si Yu had only decided to go after Lu Xi because Lu Xi and Liang Yufei hadn’t started their love story yet. But Liang Yufei knew that Lu Xi was married to her and was still blatantly trying to seduce Lu Xi.
It was too bizarre.
Based on the character the author had created for the original protagonist, Liang Yufei would never do something as unethical as intruding on someone else’s marriage!
From the last time Liang Yufei showed up, Si Yu felt a subtle sense that the protagonist’s character was crumbling, especially seeing her look so flustered and scared. Now, that feeling was even stronger.
So she decided to be a villain for once. She wanted to test the protagonist further, to see what was wrong with her.
“Am I wrong?” Si Yu said menacingly. “I saw everything clearly by the pool. You were wearing such a revealing outfit, trying so hard to press your A-cups against Lu Xi. What were your intentions? Don’t tell me it’s okay because you’re both women. Lu Xi likes women, and she has a wife!”
Si Yu was being aggressive. Liang Yufei no longer backed away. She quickly hid the cruelty in her eyes, which then turned red. She said meekly, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. Don’t slander me.”
“You know whether it’s slander or not,” Si Yu said, taking a step forward.
“Don’t come any closer. If you do, I’ll scream.” Liang Yufei’s face turned pale. She held her hands protectively in front of her chest and shrieked, “Help!”
Si Yu: “…”
It had to be said that Lu Wei was a very loyal best friend. She was the first one to come running to the sound. She stood in front of the startled Liang Yufei and shouted angrily at Si Yu, “You evil woman, how dare you lay a hand on Yufei in my house? Yufei, don’t be scared.”
She was loyal, but she wasn’t very smart.
Si Yu crossed her arms and sneered. “Which eye saw me lay a hand on her?”
Lu Wei looked back at Liang Yufei. She didn’t see any slap marks on her face, but her face was too pale, and her eyes were filled with terror. It was obvious she was scared.
Then, Lu Xi and the old woman came over. The old woman asked, “Why is Miss Liang screaming? Did she fall?”
Si Yu almost burst out laughing. She had thought Liang Yufei was a sweet and innocent girl, but it turned out the grandmother was the real sweet and innocent one. She always thought the best of people.
“Grandma, she bullied Yufei!” Lu Wei quickly tattled.
“Miss Liang is a guest. How could Qiao Qiao bully her? You’re talking nonsense again. Do you want me to spank you?” the old woman said. “Xi Xi, go get me a stick.”
Lu Xi said, “Grandma, if you really want to teach her a lesson, I’ll do it. You don’t have to do it yourself.”
Lu Wei was usually bold and fearless, but she was terrified of her sister. Her face paled. She wailed, “I’m a grown woman. Are you really going to hit me?”
“Because you’re always so rude and disrespectful,” the old woman said, scolding Lu Wei. Then she turned to Liang Yufei and changed her expression to a gentle smile. “Miss Liang, what happened?”
Liang Yufei held on to Lu Wei’s arm tightly. Her deer-like eyes looked at Si Yu with fear. She was on the verge of tears. “It’s nothing.”
If it’s nothing, why are you pretending to be pitiful?
Is she trying to have an acting showdown with me?
I can play that game, too.
Si Yu sneered inwardly. She lowered her eyes and said hesitantly, “I didn’t bully her. I just asked her if she wanted to learn how to swim, and she screamed as soon as I got close to her. I don’t know why she’s screaming. I’m so sorry, Miss Liang. It’s all my fault. If I knew how to swim, I could have saved you last time. I’ll ask my Xi Xi to teach me more, and once I learn, I’ll teach you, how does that sound?”
She winked at Lu Xi.
Lu Xi: “…” Who is “your” Xi Xi?
Lu Xi had to hold herself back.
The old woman said proudly, “Qiao Qiao learned how to make cookies with Master Xie last week. They’re pretty good. They’re best when they’re fresh out of the oven. I’ll have her make some for you later.”
Lu Xi didn’t say that she had already tasted them. She didn’t answer Si Yu’s question and changed the subject. “It’s time for your nap now.”
While Lu Xi pushed the old woman away for her nap, Si Yu went into the kitchen to make cookies.
After the butter softened and was mixed, Si Yu used a sieve to evenly sift the flour into the butter. She then stirred it clockwise.
Everyone in the Lu household knew that the old woman took a nap at this time. The villa was quiet, with only a few bird chirps coming from the courtyard.
Si Yu was at her most relaxed when she was doing something seriously. Only then would she forget that she had transmigrated, and all her other troubles.
She automatically filtered out the sounds around her and didn’t hear the footsteps approaching. She caught a glimpse of a moving shadow on the floor by the door and suddenly looked up.
Lu Xi was wearing a white shirt and high-waisted black pants. Her sophisticated outfit looked out of place in the kitchen. She was leaning against the door frame lazily. She had been watching silently for half a minute and was finding it more and more incredible.
Lu Xi had been skeptical about what the housekeeper had said last time. After the old woman fell asleep, her curiosity got the better of her, and she came to see for herself. She saw Si Yu methodically sifting flour and stirring, looking very capable and virtuous.
Lu Xi couldn’t help but wonder, Is this really the spoiled and dramatic Si Yu who had never lifted a finger in her life?
Si Yu wasn’t thinking as much as her. She just wanted to make the cookies. She stirred and said, “It’s going to be a while. I’ll call you when it’s ready.”
Lu Xi wasn’t interested in the cookies. She watched her silently.
Si Yu saw her watching intently. “Are you here to help me? You don’t have to. I can do it myself.”
“I didn’t expect you to actually know how to do it,” Lu Xi said, finally speaking.
“Of course I do. Did you think I was lying?”
Lu Xi had.
She even thought the housekeeper was fooled by Si Yu, and that the cookies were probably made by the chef and Si Yu was just taking the credit. So she had to see it for herself.
A few strands of hair fell down and blocked Si Yu’s eyes. She tried to push the hair behind her ears with the back of her hand, but she failed.
The sunlight shone through the blinds, casting a light on the woman’s face. From this angle, the woman’s face was soft and serene. Since she wasn’t wearing makeup, she even looked a little docile.
This version of Si Yu was a world apart from the previous one, who was always spoiled, unreasonable, and dramatic.
They were the same person, yet they had two completely different auras.
Was she really trying to change, or was this just an act?
Before she could figure it out, Lu Xi had already walked into the kitchen.
She couldn’t watch her struggle anymore. As if possessed, she reached out and tucked the unruly strands of hair behind Si Yu’s ears.
A cool scent filled Si Yu’s nose. A cool fingertip touched her sensitive ear. Si Yu turned her head and looked at the suddenly close Lu Xi in shock.
After doing that, Lu Xi regretted it, especially when she saw Si Yu’s bright eyes staring at her. It made her uncomfortable. She took a step back, her face stiff. “When you’re making food, you shouldn’t touch your face.”
“I used the back of my hand. My palm is clean.” Si Yu knew she was a clean freak. She looked down and saw that one hand had flour on the back, while the other didn’t. She quickly asked, “Is my face dirty?”
Lu Xi looked at the flour on her cheek and the tip of her nose. She silently took a tissue and handed it to her.
Si Yu blinked. “My hands are dirty. Can you wipe it for me?”
Lu Xi subconsciously went to wipe her face. But just as the tissue was about to touch her nose, she stopped, her eyebrows furrowed.
What am I doing? What does her dirty face have to do with me?
Si Yu lifted her face, waiting for the service. When she saw Lu Xi suddenly pull back her hand, she was confused. “What’s wrong?”
Lu Xi put the tissue in her flour-covered hand. Her voice was cold and tinged with annoyance. “Do it yourself.”
Then she turned and walked away.
Si Yu: “…”
Why does she change her mood so fast?
After putting the mixed ingredients into a baking pan to freeze, Si Yu washed her hands and face, and walked out of the kitchen, looking for Lu Xi.
“Are you looking for the oldest miss?” the housekeeper asked, seeing her wandering around. She pointed outside. “I saw her and Miss Liang talking in the yard.”
Liang Yufei again?
Si Yu quickly ran outside.
The sun was high in the sky, and a cool breeze blew. Two people of different heights were standing under a tree. It was Lu Xi and Liang Yufei.
Si Yu wanted to just rush over, but she stopped when she saw how far apart they were standing.
This distance seemed safe. It would be difficult for Liang Yufei to pretend to be a victim or to get close to her.
Si Yu was too far away to hear what they were saying.
Liang Yufei had been in Lu Wei’s room, looking worried. She saw Lu Xi standing under a tree, making a call through the window. She quickly ran downstairs.
Lu Wei told her that Si Yu came to the Lu house often, so she might not have a chance to come again. There were some things she wanted to say to Lu Xi.
She ran until she was out of breath and called out in a soft voice, “Ms. Lu.”
Lu Xi put down her phone and looked at her. “Is something wrong?”
“I…” Liang Yufei took a deep breath and said what she had rehearsed in her head. “I’ve been wanting to apologize to you about the trending topic.”
That time, the director brought Liang Yufei to see Lu Xi. At the dinner table, Liang Yufei was polite, humble, poised, and spoke gracefully. Lu Xi’s first impression of her was good. She agreed with the director that the girl was very suitable for the protagonist’s role.
It was raining heavily when they left. Lu Xi saw that she hadn’t driven, so she offered her a ride home. She didn’t expect to be followed by paparazzi who took pictures and wrote some messy articles saying that they were secretly dating.
The public relations department at Guangying Entertainment saw the trending topic about their CEO and a D-list actress and immediately took it down and released a statement to clarify the situation.
Not long ago, Lu Zhennan had asked Lu Xi about her relationship with Liang Yufei.
Lu Xi had almost forgotten about the incident, but Liang Yufei brought it up again. “The paparazzi were writing nonsense. I don’t blame you,” she said flatly.
“But I still feel very guilty. You wouldn’t have been followed if it wasn’t for giving me a ride. When I saw the trending topic, I wanted to call you to apologize, but I didn’t have your number.” Liang Yufei’s palms were sweaty. She said cautiously, “Ms. Lu, can I add you on WeChat?”
Lu Xi’s eyes were calm, and her voice was steady. “Miss Liang, if you have anything, you can contact my special assistant first. I believe you exchanged contact information last time. As for my WeChat, it’s not necessary.”
Liang Yufei tightened her grip on her phone. Her face was a little pale, and her lips moved slightly.
“Also,” Lu Xi said, “You are an actress, and I am an investor. We should avoid being seen together. It’s better if we have less contact.”
Liang Yufei: “…”
Lu Xi made her point and walked away with a brisk pace.
Liang Yufei’s face was deathly white. She bit her lower lip, feeling utterly shocked.
She had been rejected by Lu Xi again. Why?
“Are you just going to stand there like a door guard?” Lu Xi asked Si Yu, who was standing by the door.
Si Yu pointed her chin at Liang Yufei, who was still standing under the tree, and said half-jokingly and half-seriously, “I was afraid she would eat you.”
Lu Xi gave her a cold look that said, “What nonsense are you talking about now?” She walked past her and went inside.
Si Yu crossed her arms, watching Liang Yufei with interest. She was so curious about what they had talked about.
It took a long time for Liang Yufei to recover from the disappointment of being rejected. She took a deep breath and turned around.
“Oh no—it hurts!”
A sudden, childlike voice startled Liang Yufei. She looked down and saw a chubby four or five-year-old boy sitting on the grass, looking up at her pitifully.
Did she knock him down?
Liang Yufei quickly helped him up.
The chubby boy had fallen on his bottom, but he didn’t cry. His eyes lit up. “Big sister, you’re so pretty!” he said in a sweet voice.
The chubby boy was sweet, but he drooled a lot when he talked. The abundant drool dripped down his double chin and onto the back of her hand. Liang Yufei’s spine stiffened. She instinctively pushed him away.
Thump. The chubby boy fell to the ground again.
Si Yu recognized him as their neighbor’s grandson, Little Bao, who often came over to play. The old woman loved him.
She quickly ran over and picked him up. “Are you okay?”
Little Bao’s chubby hand tugged on a stray hair on his head. He said in a small, guilty voice, “I don’t think this big sister likes me.”
Si Yu’s eyes narrowed as she looked at Liang Yufei. “Why did you push him?”
Liang Yufei held out her hand to show her the drool on the back of it. “He drooled on me. It’s disgusting.”
Si Yu saw the undisguised look of disgust on her face. She thought about all the other strange things that had happened. The mystery in her heart suddenly unraveled.
Her jaw tightened. She said to Little B with her mind, “She is definitely not the protagonist, Liang Yufei.”
