The Whole World Wants Them to Get a Divorce - Chapter 14
At 8 p.m. sharp, the whole family gathered in front of the TV, waiting for the web drama Beloved Consort to air.
This historical romantic comedy starred Liang Yufei and Lu Wei, who played the female lead and the female second lead, respectively. They became good friends because of this show.
Lu Wei was acting for the first time, and she was nervous and excited. She said to everyone, “Nobody is allowed to leave. You have to watch with me.”
Besides Lu Zhennan and Lu Xi, who had to work, and Tang Jie, who had a spa appointment, everyone else sat on the sofa with her, including the two housekeepers.
In the novel, the author only briefly mentioned Liang Yufei’s acting. Si Yu remembered that after the show aired, it became a hit, and the main characters also became famous. With this show as a foundation, Liang Yufei’s acting career took off, and she quickly went from a D-list actress to an A-list one.
Si Yu was curious about the show, especially Liang Yufei’s acting.
After the theme song, the show began.
Lu Wei, who played the spoiled princess, rode her small red horse recklessly through the market, knocking over an old man’s basket. She threw him a large silver ingot and tried to leave, but the old man stopped her and demanded an apology.
How could a princess apologize to a commoner? The two of them argued, drawing a crowd.
The princess lost face and used her identity to intimidate the old man, who backed down.
Just then, Liang Yufei, who played a little beggar, came out and used her eloquent words to rationally resolve the dispute.
The princess rode away triumphantly. It wasn’t until afterward that she realized the beggar’s clever words were all insults directed at her!
The princess, enraged, went back to chase her. The female lead used her nimble movements to trick her, and after playing around enough, she “accidentally” ran into the male lead’s arms.
The opening wasn’t groundbreaking, but the pacing was well done, and it was full of laughs. The three main characters were introduced in a unique way that made them instantly memorable.
The housekeeper, Aunt Zhang, said, “The second miss looks so good in that outfit!”
Aunt Zhou quickly agreed. “Yes, she does! And her horse-riding posture is so cool!”
The old woman said with a smile, “I didn’t expect our Wei Wei to be so photogenic.”
Lu Wei pouted. “Grandma, are you saying I’m not pretty?”
“You’re pretty, you’re pretty,” the old woman said, squinting at the screen. “That little beggar looks familiar. Who’s playing her?”
“Grandma, that’s my best friend, Yufei!”
“That’s Miss Liang?” the old woman said in surprise. “She’s dressed like a little boy. I almost didn’t recognize her. She’s a good actress, though.”
Lu Wei hugged her arm. “Am I not a good actress?”
“You’re good, too,” the old woman said distractedly, wanting to focus on the TV.
Lu Wei was smiling so hard you could see her back teeth. A cold snort came from her left. She looked over, and her smile disappeared. “What are you snorting about?”
Si Yu spit out her sunflower seed shell. “Nothing. I just think Grandma is too kind.”
Lu Wei didn’t understand.
“The role of the princess suits you perfectly,” Si Yu said. “It’s like you’re playing yourself.”
Lu Wei was even more confused. “What do you mean?”
Si Yu gave her a fake professional smile. “I mean I’m complimenting you.”
Then she turned her attention to the screen, continuing to appreciate Liang Yufei’s acting.
This was Liang Yufei’s first time as a female lead. Her acting was still a bit stiff, but she had a natural spark. No wonder she would go on to become a movie queen.
Thinking that the protagonist was also a transmigrator and seemed to want to ruin her marriage with Lu Xi, Si Yu’s sense of crisis grew stronger. She had to re-evaluate this Liang Yufei.
She also wanted to continue being an actress. One day, she might have to compete with Liang Yufei, and she couldn’t take her lightly.
Lu Wei was slow to realize that Si Yu was insulting her. “How dare you insult me!” she said angrily.
She raised her hand, ready to hit her.
The old woman blocked her, putting herself between the two women. “Wei Wei, sit down. Stop making a fuss!”
“Grandma, she…”
“If you make another sound, I’m not watching with you anymore.”
That one sentence successfully silenced Lu Wei. She looked at Si Yu with an unwilling and provocative gaze.
Si Yu didn’t want to fight, but Lu Wei’s acting was so bad it was eye-rollingly cringe-worthy. Lu Wei was so pleased with her terrible acting that Si Yu couldn’t help but make a few sarcastic remarks.
She ignored Lu Wei’s anger, clapped her hands to get the sunflower seed shells off, and said softly to the old woman, “Grandma, I’m going upstairs to unpack.”
The old woman knew she and Lu Wei didn’t get along, so she didn’t force her to stay. “Go ahead.”
Si Yu went up to the second floor and into Lu Xi’s room. She opened her suitcase and took out some daily necessities.
Lu Xi came back to her room after her work discussion with Lu Zhennan. She saw a huge pink suitcase on the floor. She was wondering about it when she heard the sound of running water and a woman’s terrible singing from the bathroom. She frowned.
Si Yu was taking a shower.
Twenty minutes later, Si Yu came out wrapped in a towel. She was startled when she saw someone sitting on the bed. She subconsciously wanted to retreat but realized it was Lu Xi. She patted her chest and smiled sweetly. “Done with your chat?”
Lu Xi’s pale eyes looked at her directly. She scanned her from head to toe. Her gaze lingered on Si Yu’s smooth and fair face. She paused and then said, “Why aren’t you wearing clothes? What are you doing?”
Si Yu swayed her slender waist and walked up to her. She leaned forward, looking into her eyes. “I’m here to seduce you, of course.”
The woman had a light floral scent on her. It was the scent of her body wash. She had never noticed anything special about it before, but now it smelled a little sweet.
The towel was tied loosely, and with her bending, her chest was exposed.
Lu Xi saw it by accident. Her eyes darkened. She wanted to push her away, but she didn’t know where to grab her without touching her bare skin. She kept a straight face. “Are you going to sleep on the streets tonight?”
Si Yu knew when to quit. She covered her chest and stepped back. “I’d rather sleep on the couch,” she said with a cheeky smile.
Si Yu had gone straight to the bathroom to wash her hair and shower after using the toilet. She had forgotten to grab a change of clothes and didn’t expect Lu Xi to be back so soon. She grabbed a random nightgown from her suitcase and slipped into the bathroom to change.
This was the second time they were sharing a room.
The first time, Lu Xi was very upset and wanted to kick her out. This time, she didn’t say anything.
Si Yu couldn’t be sure how much of Lu Xi’s misunderstanding of her was gone, because this garbage transmigration system couldn’t calculate her favorability!
The TV show downstairs was over. Everyone went back to their rooms. The lively atmosphere disappeared, and the night gradually became quiet.
Only one floor lamp was on in the room.
Si Yu lay on the fabric sofa, bored, scrolling through the original female supporting character’s friends list. The more she read, the heavier her heart felt.
June 8: I heard that girl surnamed Liang is also coming to the banquet. I’m going to trick her to the pool and push her in, and drown her!
June 5: All that nonsense about a secret relationship and a girlfriend is garbage! It must be that vixen surnamed Liang who’s seducing Lu Xi. I’m going to kill that shameless vixen!
June 4: Meimei said another vixen is trying to seduce Lu Xi. How can they be so cheap and shameless! I’m going to kill them all!
June 3: Lu Xi isn’t coming home again. Is she working overtime, or is she on a date with another woman?
June 1: It’s Children’s Day today. I bought a gift for Lu Xi, but she threw it in the trash and said I was childish.
May 27: Did I do something wrong? I didn’t want to die. I didn’t want to lie to her, but I love her so much. I just want her to look at me. Why did she call me crazy and block me? Why can’t she see everything I’ve done for her?
…
The rest were all negative posts. Si Yu couldn’t read anymore.
The female supporting character had set her friends list to be private, treating it like a confessional. Everything she wrote was about Lu Xi. The words showed that she deeply loved Lu Xi, but her love was so obsessive, almost distorted.
For Lu Xi, the female supporting character wanted to kill every woman who tried to get close to her. Her intense jealousy made her lose her mind. On June 8, she tried to kill Liang Yufei for the first time.
This female supporting character was terrifying.
Si Yu remembered the ending of the female supporting character in the extra chapter. After being abandoned by Lu Xi, she lived a dazed life, partying every day. One day, she got drunk, was taken advantage of, and eventually went insane.
Although her ending was tragic, the female supporting character tried to harm the protagonist five times throughout the novel, and each time she wanted the protagonist dead. With such a vicious mind, no reader sympathized with her. They all celebrated her downfall.
It was both pitiful and sad.
Si Yu wasn’t a saint, but since she was “Si Yu” now, she couldn’t help but feel some empathy. Her emotions were mixed and she couldn’t express them.
She exited the friends list and rubbed her throbbing temples. She let out a heavy sigh at the ceiling.
Lu Xi, who was leaning against the headboard and using her tablet, looked over. She was about to tell her to stop making strange noises and disturbing her work, but she was stunned when she saw tears in her eyes.
“Why are you crying?”
Si Yu touched the corner of her eyes and realized they were tears. She was confused for a moment.
She didn’t feel sad at all, but the tears just came naturally. She wondered if this body just wanted to cry on its own.
She quickly wiped them away and said nonchalantly, “It’s nothing. I just suddenly miss my parents and my grandma.”
They should be reunited in heaven now, she thought.
The warm yellow light from the floor lamp bathed Lu Xi, who was in purple silk pajamas. She seemed less cold than usual. She leaned against the headboard, quietly observing the woman on the sofa.
Si Yu sat up and hugged a pillow to her chest. Her chin rested on it. She looked at Lu Xi’s scrutinizing gaze and said carefully, “Lu Xi, do you hate me?”
The answer to that was obvious. Si Yu didn’t wait for her to reply. She took a deep breath and continued, “You hate me and want to divorce me, but you’re forced to stay with me because of Grandma. You must be very unhappy.”
Lu Xi’s lips were pressed into a thin line. She wanted to hear what else she had to say.
Si Yu continued to talk to herself. “I just read some things. To be honest, I’m just as disgusted as you are. So I’m trying to change and become a better person. It’s not just to please you. It’s also so I can live a good life in this world.”
Lu Xi’s eyes flickered, but she still didn’t say a word.
Si Yu shrugged. “You can go back to your work. I’m a little tired. Good night.”
Right now, she didn’t want to act, be emotional, or lie. She just wanted to speak her mind.
As for what Lu Xi thought, she didn’t care.
The words that had been bottled up inside finally found a way out. She felt much lighter. Si Yu hugged the pillow and closed her eyes.
The warm yellow light from the floor lamp fell on her face, creating a serene beauty.
Lu Xi understood most of what she said. But she didn’t quite get the last sentence. What did she mean by living a good life in this world?
She had questions, but Lu Xi didn’t ask them.
From beginning to end, Lu Xi didn’t say a word.
Did I hate her?
I definitely did before.
But after observing and interacting with Si Yu during this time, Lu Xi’s feelings for her were becoming stranger. It was clear that Si Yu was changing, but she didn’t know how long this change would last.
She thought about how thoughtful Si Yu was with the old woman, how patient she was with Little Bao, and how humble and polite she was with the housekeepers. She thought about her clear eyes when she looked at people and her innocent smile when she talked…
Lu Xi asked herself honestly, and the answer was that she didn’t hate her that much anymore.
The woman on the sofa looked peaceful, as if she had already fallen asleep.
Lu Xi watched her for a few seconds, then gently put down her tablet and turned off the floor lamp.
