The Whole World Wants Them to Get a Divorce - Chapter 15
The morning sun filled the courtyard. With the birds’ constant chirping, Si Yu slowly woke up.
She heard the faint sound of water coming from the bathroom. She opened her eyes and looked at the big bed, finding it empty. She mumbled to herself, “Why does Lu Xi always wake up earlier than me?”
She took out her phone to check the time. It was 7:30 a.m. Not too early, not too late.
There was an unread message on WeChat. She opened it.
Liu Meimei: “It’s my birthday tomorrow night. Do you want to come?”
The message was sent at 11 p.m. last night. Si Yu was already asleep then.
Si Yu wasn’t sure about her relationship with this Liu Meimei. They didn’t seem to be just a source of information and a buyer. They often talked about skincare and makeup.
Based on the number of WeChat friends and the frequency of her conversations, the female supporting character’s popularity was appallingly bad. In the past month, only Liu Meimei had contacted her.
So, Liu Meimei was most likely her only friend.
A rich heiress ending up like this… Si Yu didn’t know what to say.
The frosted glass door was pushed open, and Lu Xi, fully dressed, walked out.
Si Yu put away her phone and greeted her with a smile. “Morning.”
Lu Xi glanced at her and said in a tone devoid of emotion, “Morning.”
Si Yu saw that she was already ready, so she lifted the light blanket and went into the bathroom.
When she got downstairs, she saw that everyone, except Lu Zhennan, who had already left, was sitting at the dining table, waiting for breakfast.
Lu Wei had been woken up before she had enough sleep. She just wanted to finish breakfast quickly and go back to bed. She said listlessly, “Can we eat now?”
The old woman laughed. “You can’t even wait two minutes.”
Lu Wei mumbled and ate her bun.
Si Yu pulled out the chair next to Lu Xi and sat down. Just then, she heard Tang Jie say, “Si Yu, have you still not found a job after all this time?”
Si Yu’s expression froze.
Si Yu had only told the old woman, Lu Xi, and Aunt Zhao about her job search. Tang Jie must have overheard her telling the old woman that she had sent out her resume.
Although Tang Jie wasn’t a “wicked mother-in-law,” she was still polite to Si Yu because she was wary of the old woman. Si Yu’s impression of her was neutral, but she was annoyed by one thing: Tang Jie was a gossip.
Si Yu calmly picked up the millet porridge in front of her and stirred it. “I have an interview on Monday,” she said.
Tang Jie didn’t believe it when she heard that Si Yu was looking for a job. She used her connections to investigate if anyone named Si Yu had recently sent a resume to any of the Lu Group companies, but the answer was no. She had also asked Lu Zhennan if he had secretly arranged for Si Yu to join a company, but Lu Zhennan said he had no idea about Si Yu’s job search.
“You’re actually looking for a job?” Tang Jie said in shock. “You’ve been out of college for two years and you haven’t done anything. Companies want work experience these days. Who would hire you without any experience?”
The old woman slapped the table. “So what if she doesn’t have work experience? Our Qiao Qiao is clever and skilled. She can find a job anywhere. If Qiao Qiao didn’t want to do it herself, I would have already gotten her a job at the company.”
“Doing it herself,” Lu Wei said, rolling her eyes sarcastically. “Someone who doesn’t know how to do anything won’t last more than a few days even if she finds a job.”
The old woman was furious. “Sister Zhao, get me a rolling pin!” she yelled.
Lu Wei stubbornly said in a fast-paced voice, “It’s true. You can ask her. What kind of job can she get without any help from the family?”
Si Yu rolled her eyes at Lu Wei, too lazy to explain.
She could imagine that if she said she wanted to be an actress, Lu Wei would say, “You? Are you going to be a pretty face with no talent?”
Si Yu held on to the agitated old woman. “Grandma, I don’t care what other people say. It’s enough that you believe in me.”
The old woman held her hand. “Grandma believes in you.”
Lu Wei snorted and was about to say more.
Lu Xi, who had been eating silently, shot her a look. “Why are you talking so much?” she said.
Lu Wei’s sarcastic words were stuck in her throat. Her head dropped. “Big sis, why are you helping her, too?” she mumbled unhappily.
Si Yu was very surprised that Lu Xi spoke up. She looked at her suspiciously.
Lu Xi’s long eyelashes hid her emotions, making her unreadable.
Liu Meimei sent her another WeChat message about her birthday.
Si Yu saw how enthusiastic she was and agreed to go.
She’s the female supporting character’s only friend. I should meet her and build a relationship, she thought.
Around 7 p.m., Si Yu drove to a street full of bars. The place was dazzling, and she couldn’t find her way, so she messaged Liu Meimei.
Liu Meimei: “We just got here, too. Just stay put, and I’ll come find you.”
Liu Meimei: “Oh, I don’t know what you look like. What car are you driving?”
She doesn’t know what I look like???
Si Yu was annoyed when she saw this message. She thought Liu Meimei was the female supporting character’s only friend, but they had never met!
So this was their first time meeting in person?
This is interesting, she thought.
Si Yu rolled down the window to get some air and started to type.
Just as she typed “I’m in a white Maserati, the license plate is,” she heard a woman outside say, “I can’t believe she’s actually coming.”
Another woman said, “It’s because I told her that Zhang Manni was coming. She must hate Zhang Manni’s guts.”
“But Zhang Manni didn’t come. Aren’t you mad that she stood you up?”
“Of course I’m mad! That Zhang girl reported me to Assistant Chen for playing on my phone at work. I lost half of my bonus because of her. I wanted to tear her to shreds when Si Yu got here, but she stood me up!”
“Oh well. I heard that Ms. Lu has a video conference with people from Country Y tonight. Assistant Chen is on a business trip, so she called Zhang Manni to come to the office to work overtime.”
“I don’t think she’s going to work overtime. She probably wants to go seduce Ms. Lu again.”
“She’s shameless.”
“Do you think Ms. Lu has a girlfriend?”
“I don’t think so. Did the sugar mommy reply to you yet?”
“Not yet.”
Si Yu’s eyes moved from her phone to the two women talking outside. One of them looked familiar. Her selfies often appeared on her friends list. That must be Liu Meimei. The other one, she didn’t know.
She had thought that Liu Meimei was her friend, and she had invited her to celebrate her birthday. But it turned out that Liu Meimei just wanted to use her to fight with that Zhang Manni person???
The name Zhang Manni sounded familiar. Si Yu thought for a long time and remembered. She was the secretary who tried to seduce Lu Xi.
While she was distracted, she heard Liu Meimei say, “We’ve known each other for two years, but we’ve never met. I can’t believe she’s actually coming today. She’s probably not the old and ugly sugar mommy you were talking about.”
“We’ll find out later.”
“She’s really rich. She sent me another thousand-yuan red envelope last time. Tsk, tsk, tsk. How are rich people so easy to fool these days?”
“A fool and her money are easily parted.”
Si Yu felt like she had lost her mind. Wouldn’t it have been better to just lie on the couch and enjoy the air conditioning at home?
How could a person as vicious as the female supporting character have any friends? Birds of a feather flock together. Even if she had friends, they would be bad ones. Why didn’t I realize that sooner?
Si Yu rolled up her window. She deleted the text and typed a new message. “Something came up. You guys go on ahead. Order whatever you want. I’ll pay.”
Liu Meimei was chatting happily with her colleague when she received the message. A huge smile spread across her face. “Okay! Hurry up then!” she replied immediately.
Ten minutes later, Liu Meimei messaged her again, telling her that they had booked a luxury private room that cost 38,000 yuan for one night. They also ordered a few bottles of foreign liquor, which added up to around 50,000 or 60,000 yuan. She then asked her when she would be there.
Si Yu did a rough calculation. This amount was probably a little more than all the red envelopes Liu Meimei “tricked” the female supporting character into sending her over the past two years. She put her phone in the armrest compartment, started the car, and made a U-turn.
When Liu Meimei messaged her again, urging her to hurry, she found that she had been blocked.
Si Yu drove her three-million-yuan sports car aimlessly on the neon-lit streets. Looking at the bustling city, she felt lonely for the first time.
She had no family, no friends. What was the point of her being in this world?
When she passed the Guangying Media building, she suddenly remembered some of the things Liu Meimei and that woman had said. Si Yu slowed down.
I wonder if Lu Xi is done with work yet?
She’s working so hard tonight. As her wife, shouldn’t I bring her some late-night food?
I don’t think Lu Xi likes to eat late-night food.
A security guard saw that her car had been parked for a while and came over to knock on her window. “Ma’am, you can’t park here.”
Si Yu rolled down her window halfway. She winked at him. “You should take a good look at who I am first.”
The female supporting character owned 15 percent of Guangying Entertainment’s shares. She was one of the company’s three major shareholders. How dare he not let her park here?
The security guard obediently leaned in to take a closer look. He saw her beautiful face and thought she looked like a celebrity. His face turned slightly red. He puffed out his chest and said with a righteous expression, “Even if you’re Guangying A-list actress, you can’t park here. It’s a rule.”
Who’s Guangying’s A-list actress?
Si Yu blinked again. “You don’t recognize me?”
The security guard: “Should I?”
Si Yu: “…”
Goodbye!
Si Yu drove off in a hurry after her first failed attempt to show off.
On the top floor of the Guangying building, in the CEO’s office.
Lu Xi had a video conference with people from Country Y at 8 p.m. Assistant Chen was on a business trip, so he sent a secretary to help her prepare the documents.
The secretary worked quickly, but the perfume she was wearing was too strong. It made her dizzy.
“Ms. Lu, here’s the contract sample, you… oh no!”
Zhang Manni “accidentally” tripped on the rug on the floor and “accidentally” fell into Lu Xi’s arms.
The strong perfume irritated her nose. Lu Xi looked at the woman who had suddenly become clumsy and was now on her body. Her gaze slowly turned cold.
“I’m sorry, Ms. Lu, I…”
When she met Lu Xi’s gaze, Zhang Manni shuddered as if she had been frozen. Her mouth was slightly open, and she couldn’t speak.
Lu Xi pushed her away without expression. She looked at the revealing outfit on her chest. “Are you here to work or to be a companion?”
“I…”
“Get out.”
Zhang Manni adjusted her clothes, lowered her head, and left in shame and anger.
There was still half an hour until the meeting time. Lu Xi called Chen Yan directly. “Find someone else and send them over.”
Chen Yan, who was on a business trip, heard the change in her voice. She said cautiously, “Did Zhang Manni do something wrong?”
Lu Xi’s face darkened. “She has bad intentions. Have her write a resignation letter. She doesn’t need to come in next week.”
Just from the words “bad intentions,” Chen Yan had a pretty good guess as to why. She didn’t dare to ask more questions. “Okay, Ms. Lu. I’ll arrange for a trustworthy person to go there right away.”
After hanging up, Lu Xi massaged her temples. When she smelled the leftover perfume on her, she felt annoyed.
She couldn’t help but think of someone’s deliberate seduction while wrapped in a towel last night.
They were both trying to tempt her, but why did Zhang Manni make her feel so disgusted?
