The Whole World Wants Them to Get a Divorce - Chapter 16
It was a little after 8 p.m. when she got home.
Aunt Zhao was in the living room watching TV. She saw her walk in listlessly. “Is the birthday party over already?” she asked.
Si Yu didn’t want to explain. She mumbled a weak “yeah” and saw the web drama Beloved Consort on the screen. Liang Yufei was flirting with the male lead under a peach tree.
Liang Yufei’s ancient costume was eye-catching. She was lively yet gentle, and she had a mischievous cuteness that made her face perfect for a wide range of roles.
Si Yu slumped onto the sofa and asked, “Is it any good?”
Aunt Zhao smiled. “My daughter recommended it to me. It’s really good. This girl’s name is Liang… Liang…”
“Liang Yufei.”
“Right, Liang Yufei,” Aunt Zhao said. “She’s pretty and a good actress. My daughter is her fan. She praises her on Weibo every day.”
Si Yu was amused. “Auntie, you know how to use Weibo?”
Aunt Zhao waved her hand. “I don’t know how to use those things. Every time I go back, my daughter keeps talking about it in my ear. I’m sick of hearing it.”
She said she was sick of it, but her eyes were filled with a doting smile. This must be a mother’s love.
Si Yu lost her parents at a young age and had only her grandma. She had never experienced a mother’s love, not even the “perk” of a mother being annoyed with her. A sudden emptiness filled her heart.
She sat up straight, looking at Aunt Zhao’s happy smile. “Auntie, can I ask you a question?”
“What is it?”
“Everyone hates me. What about you? What do you think of me?”
Aunt Zhao’s expression froze. She smiled ingratiatingly. “Miss Si, I don’t hate you.”
“You hesitated.”
A flash of awkwardness passed over Aunt Zhao’s face. She said hesitantly, “You have a bad temper, you’re picky, and you often yell at people. When you first came, I really… had a lot of opinions about you.”
“I remember one time, I was on the phone with my family, and it disturbed your nap. Your expression was terrifying. I thought you were going to fire me, but you didn’t. When you heard that my husband didn’t have money for surgery, you gave me a year’s worth of salary in advance. From that day on, I realized that I might have been prejudiced against you. You’re not a bad person. You’re a good person.”
Si Yu was enlightened. The money bought her loyalty. No wonder Aunt Zhao’s attitude toward the female supporting character was completely different from everyone else’s.
Aunt Zhao said the female supporting character wasn’t a bad person, but Si Yu disagreed. The female supporting character’s malicious WeChat messages and the five times she tried to frame the protagonist meant she couldn’t be a good person.
That money was a lifesaver for Aunt Zhao. That’s why her opinion of the female supporting character changed. Maybe the female supporting character just had too much money and gave it away without a second thought, and it had nothing to do with being kind.
Just as Liu Meimei said, the original female supporting character was a fool with a lot of money.
But at least she did one good thing.
Si Yu stopped talking and watched two more episodes of Beloved Consort with Aunt Zhao.
It was almost 10 p.m. when they finished. Aunt Zhao hesitated. “It’s so late. Is Miss Lu Xi not coming back again tonight?”
Si Yu thought for a moment. “She’s probably working overtime. She’ll be back.”
“Then you wait for her. I’m going to bed.”
“Okay.”
The behind-the-scenes clips of Liang Yufei and the others were still playing on TV. Si Yu didn’t want to watch them. She turned off the TV and played on her phone.
The female supporting character’s phone had the Weibo app. Si Yu hadn’t noticed it before, but Aunt Zhao’s mention of it reminded her. She tapped the app, and it logged in automatically.
When she saw the username, Si Yu almost choked on her own blood.
The female supporting character’s Weibo username was “LiangYufeiIsAnUglyB,” and her page was full of reposts of “negative gossip” about Liang Yufei.
It seemed the female supporting character hated Liang Yufei so much that her friends list wasn’t enough. She had to create a Weibo account to insult her with other antis.
Si Yu clicked on a post and saw countless fake accounts in the comments. She wondered if the female supporting character bought fake accounts to slander Liang Yufei.
This won’t do. I’m going to enter the entertainment industry. This Weibo account can’t become my black history.
After deleting all the posts on the homepage, Si Yu went to settings to deactivate the account. She noticed that the follower count was “1.” She thought the female supporting character was following Liang Yufei.
She clicked on it, but the name wasn’t Liang Yufei. It was Lu Xi from Guangying Entertainment.
Lu Xi had a Weibo account?
Si Yu was curious and clicked on it. The first thing she saw was the Guangying Entertainment logo as the profile picture, followed by the description under her name: Guangying Entertainment CEO.
And that was it.
Lu Xi’s page was empty, like a dead account. But she had a lot of followers, over 2,000, most of whom were celebrities. The most recent follower was Liang Yufei.
Si Yu then clicked on Liang Yufei’s Weibo. She saw a picture of her being cute from five minutes ago with a caption: “Feibao is so hungry. I really want to eat crayfish, but my manager won’t let me [crying emoji].”
“Feibao.”
The original protagonist, Liang Yufei’s, previous Weibo posts were simple and unpretentious. But this latest post had a certain manipulative and fake vibe to it.
Thinking that Liang Yufei was also a transmigrator, Si Yu’s expression became serious.
My mission is to get Lu Xi’s heart. What is Liang Yufei’s mission?
Late at night, Lu Xi came home after work. She saw the living room light on. She thought Aunt Zhao had forgotten to turn it off. She changed her shoes and walked in. She then saw Si Yu sleeping on the sofa.
Half of the woman’s face was buried in her hair. She was hugging a pillow, and a faint sound of breathing came from her slightly parted lips. She looked like she was sleeping soundly.
Lu Xi walked over slowly. She seemed to have stepped on something. She looked down and saw a phone.
She fell asleep while playing on her phone?
Just as she picked up the phone, Si Yu woke up.
Their eyes met. For a moment, the air seemed to freeze.
“You’re back?” Si Yu said, rubbing her eyes and breaking the silence.
Her eyes were slightly misty from just waking up, and her voice was a little raspy. The end of her words was drawn out, making it sound a little seductive, even though it was a simple question. Lu Xi felt like something wasn’t quite right.
She turned her head, handed the phone back to her, and said coldly, “What are you doing here?”
Si Yu gave her a flirty look and said in a sweet voice, “I was waiting for you to come home to sleep.”
“…” Lu Xi said without emotion, “You seem to really like sleeping on the sofa.”
Si Yu took the phone and looked at the time. She mumbled, “Who likes sleeping on the sofa? I just fell asleep because I waited for you for too long.”
“…You don’t have to wait anymore.”
Si Yu stood barefoot on the soft rug. She put one hand on Lu Xi’s arm and said softly, “You work so hard to make money to support the family. As your wife, I can’t help you with anything. My heart aches for you. It’s only right that I wait for you.”
She looked and sounded almost exactly the same as when she was “seducing” her while wrapped in a towel last night.
Lu Xi pursed her lips. She took her hand off and turned to leave.
“Wait.” Si Yu grabbed her. Before Lu Xi could react, Si Yu leaned in and took a deep sniff of her. She looked at her with a serious expression. “You don’t like perfume, do you? Why do you have such a strong women’s perfume on you?”
Lu Xi: “…”
Lu Xi didn’t know what brand of perfume Zhang Manni was wearing, but the scent hadn’t faded even after a few hours. She didn’t expect Si Yu to have such a sensitive nose.
The woman suddenly leaned in, and her breath, mixed with a light floral scent, landed on Lu Xi’s bare neck. Lu Xi’s expression stiffened, and she instinctively pushed her away.
Si Yu’s body swayed slightly. She covered her heart with both hands, pretending to be hurt. “I can guess even if you don’t say anything. We’re not divorced yet, so you wouldn’t do something immoral. It must have been those vixens seducing you, right?”
Lu Xi: “…”
Si Yu: “It’s not your fault that you’re so beautiful. It’s my fault for not being charming enough to keep you… Hey, don’t leave! I haven’t finished acting… I haven’t finished talking yet!”
Lu Xi left her with a cold back and went upstairs.
“How boring,” Si Yu said.
Si Yu stretched. The sadness and resentment on her face were gone. She put on her shoes and went back to her room, yawning.
The next day, Si Yu deliberately woke up an hour later than Lu Xi. After breakfast, she drove to Guangying Entertainment.
She saw the same security guard from last night. “Good morning, handsome,” she said.
The security guard remembered her well and recognized her at a glance. He saw her walking straight towards him. “You’re not one of our artists, are you?” he said uncertainly.
“I will be starting today,” Si Yu said confidently, showing him her interview invitation text message.
The security guard let her through. “Good luck! I hope your interview goes well!” he said encouragingly.
Si Yu made a heart shape with her fingers. I have to do well. I want to be Guangying’s A-list actress, she thought.
Si Yu couldn’t remember the current A-list actress’s name. She only knew that in the novel, Liang Yufei eventually took her place.
After her failed attempt to show off last night, Si Yu thought the security guard must be new and that it was understandable that he didn’t know she was one of the three major shareholders.
The other employees at Guangying Entertainment must know me.
I’m a little worried. What if they all bow to me, call me ‘Miss Si,’ and swarm around me?
I don’t want to be so high-profile. This is a problem.
After entering the lobby, Si Yu realized she was completely overthinking it.
From the receptionist to the janitor to the staff member who led her to the interview room…
Forget it. None of them recognized her.
A wicked female supporting character doesn’t deserve special treatment.
Well, that’s good. Now I can enter Guangying with my own skills.
The interview time hadn’t arrived yet, so the staff member had her wait in a lounge.
Si Yu pushed open the door, thinking she was the only one there for the interview. But she saw that there were 11 people in the room! They were all handsome men and beautiful women.
Are they here to interview to be signed as artists, or are they here to audition for a role?
Si Yu walked in, full of doubt. She forced a smile and greeted them. “Hello, everyone.”
Everyone else: A blank face.
They’re not very friendly, are they?
Si Yu awkwardly put down her hands and found a corner to sit in. She pretended to casually observe them.
The others were also secretly observing her.
Someone whispered, “Who is that? She’s so pretty.”
“I’ve never seen her before. Maybe she’s an unknown artist.”
“I wonder if she’s an actress or a singer.”
“You can go and ask her.”
Amidst the whispers, a girl with heavy makeup walked up to Si Yu. Her eyes brazenly scanned her up and down. “Si Yu?” she asked.
Si Yu raised an eyebrow. She looked at the unfamiliar face in front of her and smiled demurely. “You know me?”
“We used to be desk partners!” the girl yelled excitedly. “I would recognize you even if you turned to ashes!”
“…You’re the one who’s going to turn to ashes. Go explode.”
