The Whole World Wants Them to Get a Divorce - Chapter 22.1
Whether or not Aunt Zhao got the wrong idea was a different matter. Si Yu was completely stunned.
She always thought of Lu Xi as a cold, untouchable goddess. She never expected her to say something as audacious as “moaning.”
Although her words were brazen, Lu Xi had said them with a straight face and a tone as calm as if she were saying, “The weather is nice today.” It was a subtle sense of ambiguous intimacy hidden in her seriousness.
Whether Lu Xi meant it or not, Si Yu felt that it was intimate because no one had ever said something like that to her before!
Si Yu stared at her blankly, her mind suddenly in disarray.
This afternoon, while practicing with the trainees, Si Yu accidentally twisted her back during a backflip. The pain was so intense that tears almost came out, but she didn’t want the trainees to worry, so she kept a forced smile and said she was fine.
She endured the pain on the way to the hospital and continued to do so when she got home. It wasn’t until Lu Xi started applying the medicine that she finally let out a few groans.
She wanted Lu Xi to know she was in pain. She intentionally exaggerated her groans to make Lu Xi feel bad for her. She never expected Lu Xi to say that she sounded like she was moaning.
What did moaning sound like?
Si Yu had played so many different roles, but she had never played a role that required her to moan.
Normally so eloquent, Si Yu suddenly stumbled over her words. Her mouth hung open. After a long time, she finally managed to say, “Why do you have such an impure mind?”
Lu Xi remained unbothered. “That’s because your groaning isn’t pure.”
Si Yu: “…”
She was just groaning. How was that not pure?
Perhaps it was because her upper body was almost completely bare and the air conditioning was blowing on her, Si Yu suddenly felt a hint of shame. She didn’t dare to look into Lu Xi’s cold, emotionless eyes. She quickly straightened her head, bit the corner of the blanket, and her cheeks flushed.
The two of them didn’t speak again.
The room was eerily quiet.
The medicine burned her injury, so Si Yu didn’t dare to make a sound. It wasn’t until Lu Xi finished applying the medicine and pulled her shirt down that she found her voice again. She said awkwardly, “Thank you.”
Aunt Zhao had already heated up the food.
Lu Xi wasn’t hungry, but she ate anyway so as not to disappoint Aunt Zhao.
When Si Yu went to get her phone, she found that the battery was dead. After connecting it to the charger and turning it on, she saw that she had a missed call. It was from Lu Xi a few hours ago. She was stunned.
Did Lu Xi unblock her?
Si Yu called her back.
Lu Xi had just finished taking a shower. Her phone on her bedside table rang. When she saw that it was Si Yu calling, she remembered her back injury and answered the call.
“Hello?”
This was the first time Si Yu had talked directly to Lu Xi on the phone. Lu Xi had only said one word, but it made her ears tingle.
Lu Xi’s voice was normally cold, but after being filtered through the phone, it sounded warmer and less intimidating.
Si Yu steadied herself. “Did you call me earlier for something?” she asked.
Lu Xi hesitated slightly. “No,” she said.
“Oh.” It was strange that they were only a few steps away from each other but were talking on the phone. Si Yu suddenly didn’t know what to say. She scratched her head. “I was just asking. It’s good that nothing’s wrong. Goodnight.”
“…Goodnight.”
It was a strange and pointless conversation.
Although the doctor said she hadn’t injured her bones, he told her not to do any strenuous exercise for the next few days. She couldn’t dance, so Si Yu could only stay home and read the script.
The trainees found out she was injured and all sent messages to check on her. After replying to all of them, Si Yu was about to put down her phone and continue reading when she suddenly remembered something.
Lu Xi had unblocked her phone number, but what about WeChat?
The villainess had Lu Xi’s profile pinned. Si Yu didn’t have to scroll through her contacts. She just clicked on it and tentatively sent an emoji.
There was no red exclamation mark. The message was sent successfully!
On the other side, Lu Xi was listening to Chen Yan’s daily work report. Her phone suddenly vibrated. She picked it up and looked.
Si Yu: [leering]
What kind of weird emoji is this?
Lu Xi wanted to pretend she hadn’t seen it, but she saw that it said, “The other party is typing.” She waited for a long time but didn’t see a second message. She thought for a moment and sent a question mark.
Lu Xi: ?
Si Yu was racking her brain for what to say. When she saw the question mark, she subconsciously replied, “Nothing [smiling face].”
Lu Xi: “…”
Si Yu didn’t want Lu Xi to think she was bothering her for no reason. She had a flash of inspiration and quickly sent a voice message: “Just wanted to remind you to balance work and rest and not overwork yourself. I love you, mwah!”
Lu Xi didn’t have the speaker on, but the office was very quiet. The voice message clearly entered her ears. When she heard “mwah” at the end, her eye twitched.
She didn’t reply. She exited the chat, placed her phone face down on the desk, and said to Chen Yan, “Continue.”
Chen Yan also heard the voice message and recognized Si Yu’s voice. She discreetly lowered her eyes and continued her report.
Si Yu didn’t know why Lu Xi suddenly unblocked her. She recalled what she had overheard Lu Xi tell Lu Wei about not always antagonizing her and how Lu Xi had helped her apply medicine last night. She felt that Lu Xi probably didn’t hate her anymore.
But not hating her didn’t mean she liked her.
To make Lu Xi like and fall in love with her, Si Yu felt she had a long way to go.
With the villainess’s failure as a reference, Si Yu guessed that Lu Xi probably disliked clingy people. So, unless it was necessary, she wouldn’t bother Lu Xi.
A week later, Si Yu’s back injury had healed. She went back to practice street dancing with the trainees for a few days.
On August 1st, Si Yu was informed that it was time to join the cast.
Your Smile was a modern drama that was half a high school drama and half a workplace drama. They were going to film it in City H.
The day before she left, Si Yu and Lu Xi went back to the Lu family home for dinner.
The old woman didn’t want her to leave but didn’t want to hold up her filming either. She held her hand and sighed.
Si Yu comforted her. “I’m only going to be gone for two or three months. I’ll come back to be with you after filming is over. If you miss me, you can call me.”
“Oh, my legs aren’t very convenient. Otherwise, I would go see you.”
Si Yu rested her head on the old woman’s lap, sniffled, and said softly, “Make sure you get your massages and eat well. Wait for me to come back.”
The next morning, Chen Yan drove over to pick Lu Xi up to go to the airport. She was not surprised to see Si Yu and Lu Xi walk out of the Lu family villa together.
Si Yu smiled and greeted her. “Hi.”
“Ms. Si.” Chen Yan saw a huge suitcase by her feet and automatically went to grab it.
But Si Yu said, “No need. I’m driving myself. I’m not going with you.”
Lu Xi glanced at her but didn’t say anything.
Chen Yan still couldn’t be sure about their relationship, but it was obviously not simple. There must be some reason for them to keep it a secret. Chen Yan was wise enough not to ask any more questions.
Lu Xi was also going to City H. As an investor, she was going to attend the start of filming ceremony. She and Si Yu were on the same flight, but one was in first class, and the other was in business class.
Si Yu didn’t want to go with them, mainly to avoid trouble.
The villainess and Lu Xi’s marriage was a contract that was set to expire in two years. So, they never announced it to the public.
Si Yu also had her own reason for not wanting to make it public. If people knew she was the CEO’s wife, they would only be curious about her identity. Who would care about her acting?
Zhu Qi had said that her car was too flashy. Si Yu borrowed an old black Volkswagen from the Lu family’s chef. She put her suitcase in the trunk and drove to the airport.
Two hours later, the plane landed. Si Yu took the crew’s van to the hotel.
Zhu Qi had more than just Si Yu under her. Since it was her first time acting, she accompanied her to City H and also arranged a personal assistant for her named Xia Xia.
The start of filming ceremony began at noon. There was nothing grand about it. It was just an old superstition where they burned incense and prayed for the filming to go smoothly and the ratings to be high.
Director Qian Lei wanted to invite Lu Xi to take a picture with them, but Lu Xi refused.
Lu Xi, as an investor in Your Smile, didn’t look like an investor at all. If she hadn’t been wearing a sharp business suit, others would have thought she was a celebrity.
Because of her outstanding looks and aura, everyone couldn’t help but look at her.
A few actors went up to her to take a picture, but they were all rejected.
The last time Lu Xi was photographed with Liang Yufei, it became a trending topic, and her identity was revealed. Although the PR team immediately deleted all the pictures, the discussion about Lu Xi’s looks and identity continued for a long time.
To prevent that from happening again, the best way was to not allow any pictures to be taken.
No one dared to bother Lu Xi again. They all whispered and gossiped among themselves.
“Ms. Lu is so beautiful. I’ve never seen a celebrity who looks better than her.”
“I know, right? She’s so beautiful and so cold. I don’t even dare to look at her.”
“I wonder what kind of person is worthy of Ms. Lu.”
“Liang Yufei and Ms. Lu were on a trending topic last time.” Someone nudged the dazed Liang Yufei. “Wasn’t it awesome to be a rumored girlfriend of Ms. Lu?”
From the moment Lu Xi entered the hotel, Liang Yufei’s eyes were glued to her. When she was suddenly called out, she came back to her senses. “It’s all just a rumor. Don’t say that,” she said softly.
The two people smiled mockingly.
Liang Yufei said no, but she was secretly thrilled. She wished they would talk more about her and Lu Xi.
But the two of them stopped talking. After all, Lu Xi was the investor. They couldn’t just talk about her.
After the ceremony was the welcoming dinner. It wasn’t very formal. It was just a meal for the cast and crew.
A lot of people went to Lu Xi to toast her. Lu Xi only took a symbolic sip.
