The Whole World Wants Them to Get a Divorce - Chapter 24.2
Although Chen Shuang was the second female lead and only had half the screen time as the female lead, her character was the most difficult to play in the entire show.
In the second half of the show, Chen Shuang almost always had a cigarette in her hand. Si Yu didn’t smoke. She had filmed a scene where she had to smoke before and almost choked to death. She didn’t know if she was allergic to tobacco, but she got laryngitis after that shoot.
When she said she was going to play Chen Shuang, Si Yu hadn’t even looked at the script. She didn’t know there were so many scenes that required her to smoke. But since she had taken the role, she had to do a good job.
When she saw the director and the others smoking, Si Yu walked over to ask for advice.
“Director Qian, can I have one?” she asked.
Director Qian Lei half-jokingly said, “Sure. Here’s one for you to practice with.”
Si Yu took a puff and immediately started choking. She coughed so hard that it felt like her lungs were coming out. Tears streamed down her face.
Director Qian Lei didn’t expect her to have such a strong reaction. He quickly told her to stop smoking. “This kind isn’t for you. You should try women’s cigarettes,” he said.
After that, Si Yu had Xia Xia buy her a pack of women’s cigarettes. When she had free time, she would hide and smoke to get used to the choking taste of tobacco as soon as possible, so she wouldn’t hold up filming.
She was doing this entirely for the role, but she didn’t expect someone with ill intentions to use it against her. She ended up on a trending topic again.
While the online world was in an uproar, Si Yu was filming a group scene with everyone else. The male lead, Zhang Yang, had offended a school bully from another school, and they had set up a fight. As a female bully who was just as notorious as Zhang Yang and also a friend and secret admirer of his, Chen Shuang naturally joined the fight. The two groups were fighting when the female lead, Yu Su, suddenly showed up. Zhang Yang got injured while protecting Yu Su. Chen Shuang was both heartbroken and angry. She started yelling at Yu Su.
Group scenes are very difficult to film. With the added action, it was even harder. This scene started at 8 PM and didn’t finish until midnight. Everyone was physically exhausted after the shoot.
Si Yu’s face and clothes were covered in fake blood. She was tired and dirty. She just wanted to go back to the hotel and take a shower.
As soon as she got into the van, before she could even catch her breath, she heard Zhu Qi say, “Someone is slandering you again.”
The driver suddenly started the car. Si Yu’s body leaned back from the inertia. Her mind couldn’t process it. “What do you mean ‘slandering me again’?” she asked.
Zhu Qi handed her her phone with a serious expression. The screen showed the Weibo trending topics page.
Si Yu looked closely. The second trending topic was: #Si Yu Smoking#. There was a prominent “hot” symbol next to it. It had over ten million views.
Three hours ago, a gossip account uploaded a video to Weibo. In the video, Si Yu was holding a women’s cigarette and smoking. After a few puffs, she threw the cigarette on the ground and left, not caring about the ashes on the floor.
Netizens, especially the self-proclaimed righteous ones who disliked Si Yu, exploded.
[Throwing cigarette butts on the ground. Si Yu has no class.]
[Tsk tsk. This Si Yu has so many negative rumors. Using connections, no acting skills, stealing roles, and now being rude and littering. I don’t understand why Guangying would sign an artist like her.]
[She looks so experienced at smoking. She must have smoked a lot before. She looks like a punk.]
[Punk +1. I’ve disliked this Si Yu for a long time. She has a malicious face, but some people still praise her for being beautiful. Ugh.]
[Some people are saying she’s rude for littering, but there’s no need to attack her looks just for the sake of slandering her.]
[I can’t stand people who litter, especially public figures. It sets a bad example. They should be banned from the entertainment industry.]
…
The van sped along. Si Yu’s mind churned for a moment and then calmed down.
The driver, worried that she was too tired, deliberately didn’t turn on the lights so she could rest. The light from the phone screen shone on Si Yu’s face, which was covered in fake blood, making her look like a ghost.
Si Yu only looked at the first few top comments. She exited the Weibo post and went back to the trending topics list. She showed a charming smile. “Last time, I was third. This time, I’m second. Do you think I’ll be number one next time?” she asked.
Zhu Qi’s face was full of worry. “You’re still in the mood to joke around,” she said.
“What do you want me to do? Cry?” Si Yu handed her phone back to her. Her expression turned cold. She said menacingly, “Some people are so kind. They check on me every day and try to help me get famous.”
“Do you know who’s trying to slander you?” Zhu Qi quickly asked.
“I don’t,” Si Yu said. She leaned her head back and looked at the scenery rushing by outside the window. Her body was completely exhausted. “I didn’t notice who was around when I was smoking. Who knows who was secretly filming?”
Zhu Qi frowned and said thoughtfully, “There are staff members, other actors, extras, and some bystanders. Anyone could have done it. Why did you throw the cigarette butt?”
Before Si Yu could say anything, Xia Xia couldn’t help but interject. “That’s not how it happened! Si Yu specifically found a place with very few people to practice smoking. The cigarette fell because she didn’t hold it properly. She didn’t throw it on purpose. Then the director called her over to film. She was worried about holding up the shoot, so she told me to clean it up and left. I picked it up! I even wiped the ashes on the ground with a tissue. The person who filmed her didn’t film that part!”
“In that case, someone is definitely trying to slander you,” Zhu Qi said in a low voice. “Did you offend someone?”
Si Yu crossed her arms and sneered. She didn’t care that the driver was there. “Liang Yufei,” she said.
“…What?” Zhu Qi thought she misheard her. “When did you offend her?”
“Before I signed with Guangying. It was some personal grudge.” The matter involved Lu Xi. Si Yu didn’t want to get into the details, and she couldn’t even explain it. She couldn’t very well say that Liang Yufei was a transmigrator and her mission was to steal her wife, could she?
Zhu Qi was speechless for a moment.
When she first found out about Si Yu, Zhu Qi thought that she would be easy to manage. She never expected her to get involved in so many scandals in just one month.
Zhu Qi sighed. “I went to the place where you were smoking. There are a few cameras around. The surveillance should be fine, but the school is on break right now. I can’t get the footage for a while,” she said.
In short, she couldn’t help her clear her name for now.
The darkness allowed her body to release its fatigue. Si Yu closed her eyes as if she were asleep. “Then let’s wait until school starts to clear my name. I have plenty of time. I’m not afraid to wait,” she said in a relaxed tone.
Zhu Qi was a little worried. She turned to Xia Xia. “Keep an eye on her during this time. Don’t let her go on Weibo and read those upsetting comments,” she said.
Xia Xia nodded vigorously. “I’ll make sure to complete the mission!” she said.
Si Yu opened her eyes. She saw them looking as if they were facing a great enemy. She let out a helpless laugh. “It’s just a baseless rumor. Why are you so nervous? I don’t even care,” she said.
The streetlights shone on her face. She looked calm and composed. Her eyes were firm. Zhu Qi looked at her for a few seconds. “You really don’t seem like a newcomer in the entertainment industry. You seem like a veteran who’s been around for years,” she said.
Si Yu winked at her. “What veteran? I’m an old fox,” she said in a pretend angry tone. “No, take out the ‘old’ part. I’m still so young and beautiful, after all.”
Zhu Qi and Xia Xia were successfully amused by her narcissistic attitude.
The serious topic was immediately lightened by her jokes.
It was too late today, so Si Yu didn’t video chat with the old woman. She didn’t even look at her phone. She took a shower, put on the spaghetti-strap nightgown that someone had called “unwatchable,” and went straight to bed.
Guangying Tower.
It was almost dinner time. Chen Yan knocked on the door and came in. “Ms. Lu, are you going out to eat or should I order takeout for you?” she asked Lu Xi, who was still buried in her work.
Lu Xi still had a few emails to take care of. “I’ll eat at the cafeteria,” she said without looking up.
Guangying’s employee meals were as good as a five-star hotel’s. Lu Xi often ate in the cafeteria when she was busy with work, but she didn’t like crowds and was worried that her presence would make the other employees uncomfortable. So, the cafeteria had a personal dining area for her, separated by a screen to block out any prying eyes.
Although the Guangying employees were used to the CEO eating in the cafeteria, they were still surprised every time they saw Lu Xi get her own food.
Someone whispered.
“Why do I feel like Ms. Lu gets more beautiful every time I see her?”
“How many times have you even seen Ms. Lu?”
“Four!”
“Tsk. I’ve seen her thirteen times.”
“Ms. Lu’s hands are so beautiful. I want to go and get her plate for her.”
“I advise you to drop that dangerous idea.”
“Why?”
“Ms. Lu hates it when people try to suck up to her. I heard that a girl named Zhang Manyi from the secretary department tried to steal the assistant’s job by making coffee for Ms. Lu every day, and she got fired!”
“Wow. Is Ms. Lu that scary?”
“She’s just talking nonsense. Zhang Manyi was fired for trying to seduce Ms. Lu.”
Lu Xi naturally couldn’t hear their conversation. After getting her food, she walked straight to her personal dining area. Halfway there, she heard two girls at a table gossiping.
Lu Xi never cared about gossip, but she stopped for a moment when she suddenly heard Si Yu’s name.
The two girls were having a lively conversation with their phones. They didn’t notice their boss standing right next to them. Lu Xi heard them say things like “Si Yu,” “trending topic,” “smoking,” and “scandal.” She was confused and didn’t understand what they were talking about.
Chen Yan noticed that Lu Xi had stopped. “What’s wrong, Ms. Lu?” she asked in confusion.
The two girls who were gossiping were startled. They looked up and saw Lu Xi. They were frozen.
Lu Xi left them with a “Enjoy your meal” and continued walking.
“What the hell? Was Ms. Lu just talking to us?”
“Ahhh! Ms. Lu was standing right next to me, and I was so blind that I didn’t see her! I feel like I missed out on a billion dollars!”
Lu Xi returned to her private dining area. She remembered the gossip she had just heard. “Is Si Yu being slandered again?” she asked Chen Yan.
“Huh? I don’t know,” Chen Yan said, dumbfounded. But as a special assistant, she could not be in a situation where she couldn’t answer her boss’s question. She immediately composed herself. “Please wait, Ms. Lu. I’ll check Weibo.”
Lu Xi saw her put down her chopsticks and get her phone out. She looked at her. “Let’s talk about it later. Eat first,” she said.
Chen Yan had no choice but to pick up her chopsticks again.
Lu Xi ate very little and finished before Chen Yan.
Chen Yan sped up her eating. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw that Lu Xi had picked up her phone. She thought Lu Xi was bored and wanted to play on it for a bit.
She was startled when she suddenly heard Lu Xi ask, “What’s my Weibo username and password?”
Chen Yan’s hand shook. The potato chunk she was about to put in her mouth “plop” fell back into her plate.
She quickly regained her composure and remained calm. “It’s in my notebook. I… I’ll find it for you when we get back,” she said.
I wrote it down a few years ago. I should be able to find it, right?
