The Whole World Wants Them to Get a Divorce - Chapter 6
First, there was the hand on her waist, and now the push. In just a few days, this woman had tested her boundaries over and over again.
Like a flawless jade with a crack in it, Lu Xi’s icy face was slowly crumbling. She tried her best to maintain her composure. “What exactly do you want?” she asked, her voice flat.
Si Yu quickly stepped forward and put her hand over Lu Xi’s mouth.
Lu Xi’s expression changed abruptly, and she instinctively tried to push her away.
“Shhh,” Si Yu whispered, seeing through her intention. She gently pressed Lu Xi against the wall and looked at the anger brewing in her eyes. “Grandma is still outside.”
The sound of wheelchair wheels rolling echoed clearly through the door, getting closer and closer.
Si Yu subconsciously held her breath.
“Do you think they’ll fight?” the old woman asked.
“I don’t think so,” the housekeeper replied.
The old woman let out a heavy sigh. “Qiao Qiao is a good child, and Xi Xi is a good child. They are both my flesh and blood. I’m not playing favorites; I just want them to be happy. If they aren’t compatible, they can slowly work on it. What do you think?”
The housekeeper couldn’t comment on the family’s affairs. After thinking for a moment, she said, “I think the Miss and Miss Si are a perfect match, old madam. It’s getting late. I’ll help you back to your room to rest.”
After a few seconds of silence, the old woman said, “Let’s go back. We’ll come see them again in the morning.”
The sound of the wheels faded away until it was gone.
Once she was sure they were finally gone, Si Yu breathed a sigh of relief. She turned her head and met a pair of furious, phoenix-like eyes.
Hiss, so cold.
The palm of her hand was against a soft, surprisingly hot mouth.
Si Yu didn’t have time to admire Lu Xi’s stunning eyelashes. She quickly let go and took two steps back. She laughed awkwardly. “Sorry, it was a moment of panic.”
Lu Xi’s pale lips were a little red from the pressure. Her expressionless, icy face didn’t move, but her gaze was freezing.
Si Yu moved her neck uncomfortably. “You heard what Grandma said. She’s coming to check on us in the morning, so… are you still leaving?”
Lu Xi’s eyes changed again and again. She looked at Si Yu coolly and answered her question with a question. “You’re a good actress.”
An actress?
Si Yu thought to herself, Did she find out?
She suppressed her surprise, lowered her eyes, and said with an innocent, confused look, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Lu Xi scoffed. “You’re using Grandma’s mistake to pretend to be Yuan Qiao in front of her. You’re using her love for Yuan Qiao to get her to beg for you, all to achieve your goal of not getting a divorce.”
Oh, so that’s what she meant.
Si Yu composed herself and said seriously, “I promise on my character that I’m not acting in front of Grandma.”
Lu Xi sneered. “You faked a suicide attempt and made Grandma fall. Do you even have a character to promise on?”
Those two things were horrible things the original character had done…
Si Yu had no rebuttal. Her mind raced. She held up two fingers and said seriously, “I absolutely did not act in front of Grandma, and I’m not trying to use her. If I’m lying, I’ll get hit by a car as soon as I leave.”
Lu Xi’s thin lips were pressed together. She didn’t say a word, clearly not believing her.
Of course, Si Yu knew that Lu Xi’s trust in her was zero.
She had originally planned to plead with Lu Xi not to get a divorce. She had already prepared her lines and was ready to cry, make a scene, and do whatever it took to get her way. She never expected the old woman to show up as such a powerful helper.
The old woman was so kind to her that Si Yu couldn’t bring herself to use her. However, after what happened today, she had a new idea.
Lu Xi hated her because the original character was so manipulative and evil, which was why she was so desperate for a divorce. If she could change Lu Xi’s perception of her, maybe the divorce could be avoided?
Lu Xi hadn’t brought up the divorce after she got back. Si Yu guessed that Lu Zhennan must have said something to her.
Si Yu wasn’t sure if her guess was right, but she was afraid Lu Xi would bring up the topic. She covered her mouth to fake a yawn and abruptly changed the subject. “I’m so sleepy. Let’s go to bed.”
Without waiting for Lu Xi’s response, she walked to the window, sat on the fabric sofa, and looked up with a smile. “Don’t worry, I won’t sleep on the bed. So you don’t think I’m taking advantage of you.”
Lu Xi’s eyes darted to the sofa.
She really didn’t want to be in the same room as this woman, but her grandmother’s words had made her reconsider.
Lu Xi didn’t say anything in the end. She changed into her slippers, grabbed her nightgown from the bed, and walked into the bathroom without a glance at Si Yu.
Si Yu also wanted to shower, but she didn’t have any clean clothes to change into.
The bathroom door had frosted glass, so she couldn’t see inside. A few minutes later, she heard the sound of running water.
The water ran for almost an hour. Si Yu was on the verge of falling asleep when she heard the door open. She jolted awake and looked up.
Lu Xi was wearing a simple black slip dress. Her black hair was slightly disheveled, with a few strands falling on her collarbone. The skin on her chest looked translucent and alluring, and her long, straight legs made Si Yu dizzy.
She was perfectly pale and enchantingly black.
Steam still lingered behind her. She looked like a stunning temptress walking out of a fairytale. She wasn’t doing anything, but every move she made was filled with an ineffable charm.
No wonder the original character loved her so crazily. Who wouldn’t want to keep a temptress like her tied to them?
One more look and she’d probably lose her soul.
“What are you looking at?” Her gaze was too direct for Lu Xi to ignore.
Sigh, I haven’t had enough yet.
Si Yu sat up straight and couldn’t help but whistle at her. “You,” she said matter-of-factly.
The sharpness on Lu Xi’s face had softened after her shower. Her eyes were as calm as water. Perhaps she found the whistle too frivolous, because she frowned slightly.
“Can’t a person look at something beautiful?” Si Yu asked.
Lu Xi: “…”
Lu Xi ignored her and walked elegantly to the bed.
Click—
The lights went out.
By the moonlight, Si Yu could only make out a blurry figure. She saw Lu Xi lie down and said into the darkness, “Good night.”
Lu Xi didn’t respond, of course.
Si Yu adjusted her position on the narrow sofa, hugged a pillow, and closed her eyes.
There was a pleasant, cool scent in the air, very much like the one on Lu Xi’s body. Si Yu didn’t know what it was, but she fell asleep in a few minutes.
Lu Xi, however, was wide awake.
Having another person in the room made Lu Xi very uncomfortable, especially since that person was Si Yu.
Lu Xi had an indescribable feeling about Si Yu.
When the arranged marriage was first proposed, Lu Xi hadn’t objected. She had no feelings for Si Yu and they had agreed to go their separate ways after getting married.
But Si Yu broke that promise. Her repeated boundary-crossing, entanglements, and deceptions made Lu Xi grow tired of her. When her grandmother fell, Lu Xi’s dislike for her reached its peak.
Lu Xi could tolerate a person being dramatic, but she would not tolerate them harming her most beloved family member.
Divorce was inevitable.
But her grandmother…
The sound of deep, regular breathing was magnified in the quiet room. Lu Xi was a light sleeper, and now she couldn’t sleep at all.
After tossing and turning for a long time, Lu Xi slowly got up and turned on the light.
The floor lamp cast a warm, yellow glow. The small sound didn’t wake the sleeping woman.
A rare hint of impatience appeared on Lu Xi’s cold face. She stared at the shape on the sofa, her cold eyes passing over the not-quite-closed curtains. She felt an urge to throw the person out.
A thick wool rug covered the floor, almost swallowing her feet. Lu Xi, like a Persian cat lurking in the night, silently approached the sofa and looked down at the soundly sleeping woman.
This is my room. Why is she sleeping more soundly than me?
Moonlight streamed through the gap in the curtains, falling on Si Yu’s peaceful face.
Lu Xi finally suppressed the wicked urge in her heart. As she turned, she saw the person on the sofa move.
Did she wake up?
She looked closely and realized she was shivering.
The sofa was close to the air conditioner, and a cold breeze was blowing directly on it, causing Lu Xi’s long hair to lift.
She deserves to be frozen.
…
When Si Yu woke up, Lu Xi was no longer in the room.
She stretched. The thin summer blanket slid off her body, but she was quick enough to grab it.
Where did this blanket come from?
Not only was there a blanket, but there was a new set of toiletries in the bathroom.
Did Lu Xi get them for her?
As soon as Si Yu finished getting ready, she heard a knock on the door. She scurried to open it.
“Good morning, Grandma~”
The old woman looked great. She affectionately held Si Yu’s hand and asked, “Did you sleep well last night?”
Si Yu remembered the summer blanket that had appeared on her at some point. She was in a good mood. “I slept like a baby!”
The old woman saw her rosy cheeks and smiled. “Xi Xi went for a run early this morning. You were still sleeping.”
No wonder she wasn’t in the room.
The Lu family had a strict rule of no talking during meals. Si Yu silently ate her bird’s nest soup, stealing glances at Lu Xi, who was sitting on her right.
Lu Xi ate gracefully, her head down, not looking at her.
After they finished eating, Si Yu had a chance to say to her, “So you do care about me. You even gave me a blanket.”
Lu Xi looked at her with a “don’t be so conceited” look and said coolly, “I was afraid you’d get sick and pass it on to Grandma.”
Then what about the toiletries? Si Yu didn’t ask.
Si Yu’s eyes turned into stars. She said in a syrupy sweet voice, “In any case, thank you, my love~”
“…” The corner of Lu Xi’s mouth twitched. She turned and walked away.
The weather was lovely. Si Yu pushed the old woman to a spot under a big tree in the yard and chatted with her to keep her company.
Lu Xi, who was watching from a distance, looked at her grandmother, who was smiling from ear to ear, and grew more suspicious of Si Yu.
If this was an act, it was a very convincing one.
Si Yu didn’t know Lu Xi was watching her every move. She genuinely wanted the old woman to be happy. Since the old woman had mistaken her for Qiao Qiao, she was more than willing to be a good “granddaughter.”
Time passed quickly, and it was noon. Si Yu pushed the old woman back for her afternoon nap and didn’t see Lu Xi when she came back out.
Feeling a little thirsty, she poured herself a cup of tea. Just as she took a sip, she heard a car engine outside.
Then she heard a housekeeper say, “The second miss is back.”
Second miss? Si Yu tried to recall the plot and remembered that Lu Xi had a younger half-sister named Lu Wei.
Lu Wei worked in the entertainment industry and hadn’t come home yesterday. She had apparently been filming.
In the novel, Lu Wei was the protagonist’s best friend. Si Yu hadn’t seen her before and was curious, so she went outside to look.
A flashy red sports car slowly drove into the garage, and two well-dressed women got out.
Si Yu wasn’t sure which one was Lu Wei and was about to ask Little B.
“Si—yu!” one of the women shouted her name first and came rushing over, full of anger. “How dare you come to my house? I was just about to find you to confront you!”
No need to ask. This loud-mouthed woman had to be Lu Wei.
Si Yu was confused. “Confront me about what?”
“Yufei, come here.” Lu Wei pulled the woman who was a step behind her.
Hearing the name, Si Yu’s body stiffened.
Liang Yufei!!!
The original protagonist of the novel!!!
My goodness, I finally get to see what the original protagonist looks like!
She had an oval face and well-defined features. She wasn’t stunningly beautiful, but she was clean and pure. Just as the author had described.
Si Yu couldn’t hide her excitement. She raised her hand to greet her.
But the pure and authentic-looking woman’s face lost all color. Liang Yufei hid behind Lu Wei like a frightened rabbit. She pointed at Si Yu and said in terror, “S-she… she’s a demon!”
Si Yu’s raised hand froze in mid-air. She rolled her eyes toward the sky and thought, What demon? I’m clearly a fairy.
