The Whole World Wants Them to Get a Divorce - Chapter 7
Si Yu had imagined her meeting with the original protagonist would be interesting or awkward, but she hadn’t expected it to be so… awkward.
The protagonist’s appearance was close to what she had imagined, but her intense reaction was out of character.
Si Yu couldn’t figure out why the woman was so angry at her. She scratched her cheek and asked, “What’s wrong with her?”
“How can you even ask!” Lu Wei glared at her and pushed the frightened Liang Yufei forward. “Yufei, don’t be scared. Speak up!”
Speak up about what? Si Yu folded her arms in confusion.
The moment Liang Yufei’s eyes met hers, she looked as if she had seen a monster. Her face paled, her lips trembled, and she stammered, “I…”
She kept saying “I” without finishing her sentence. Si Yu lost her patience. “If you’re not going to say anything, I’m going inside.”
The sun was scorching hot; she didn’t want to stay outside. To be honest, she was a little disappointed in the protagonist.
The author had created a persona of a pure, delicate little flower for the protagonist, who looked fragile but had a strong will. That’s how she was able to climb her way up in the complicated entertainment industry from a nobody to an A-lister, and eventually win the Best Actress award.
The jumpy, timid Liang Yufei in front of her felt like a complete character breakdown.
“What are you doing?” Si Yu asked Lu Wei, who was blocking her path.
Lu Wei’s voice was sharp. “Apologize to Yufei!”
“Apologize for what?” Si Yu was baffled.
Lu Wei’s eyebrows shot up. She said bitterly, “You pushed Yufei into the water and almost killed her. How dare you pretend you don’t know?!”
Si Yu’s mind went blank for a second as some previously ignored memories reappeared:
By a shimmering swimming pool, the female supporting character “Si Yu” said venomously to the other woman, “Liang Yufei, go to hell!” Then, she pushed her in before she could react.
Si Yu: “…”
She had almost forgotten the horrible things the original character had done.
Seeing her speechless, Lu Wei raised an eyebrow. “Feeling guilty?”
Si Yu stared blankly at Liang Yufei, who was hiding behind Lu Wei. She finally understood why she had reacted that way.
She had a trauma related to this face.
Si Yu pulled her thoughts back together. “I can explain.”
“What do you have to explain?” Lu Wei said. “You’re a wicked woman. You wanted Yufei dead!”
“Just listen to me…”
“I don’t want to hear your excuses!” Lu Wei said unreasonably. “You want to go inside? Fine. Let everyone see your evil face!”
…Fine.
Lu Wei went into the house, shouting, “Mom and Dad, are you here? Big sister? Grandma?”
Si Yu frowned. “Grandma is resting. Can you keep it down?”
“No!” Lu Wei said. “Grandma hates you the most. I want her to come and see what you did!”
Si Yu really wanted to find some duct tape and cover her big mouth. Before she could, she heard a commotion from upstairs.
Lu Wei’s loud voice had startled Tang Jie and Lu Xi.
Even the old woman was disturbed.
A housekeeper pushed the old woman out of the elevator.
“Wei Wei, you’re back? What’s all the noise about?” Tang Jie swayed down the stairs. When she saw Liang Yufei, she said warmly, “Yufei, long time no see. Why do you look so pale?”
“Mom, Yufei was in a coma for two days. She just got discharged from the hospital,” Lu Wei said.
Tang Jie was shocked. “A coma? What happened to you?”
Liang Yufei was staring at Lu Xi, who was the last to come downstairs. The timidity in her eyes was replaced with a sparkle. She didn’t hear what Tang Jie was saying. All she could hear was her own heart pounding.
She was so beautiful.
Breathtakingly beautiful.
Lu Xi’s alluring phoenix eyes casually swept over her, and Liang Yufei stopped breathing.
Lu Xi went to the old woman, who hadn’t gotten enough rest. “Why are you up?” she asked softly.
The old woman said, “It was too noisy. I couldn’t sleep.”
Lu Xi rolled her beautiful eyes and gave Lu Wei a glare.
Lu Wei flinched from the cold gaze. She shrank her neck and said nervously, “I didn’t know Grandma was resting.”
The old woman didn’t blame her. “You called all of us here. What do you want to say?”
Lu Wei pulled the red-faced Liang Yufei forward and pointed at Si Yu’s nose. “The night before last, Yufei went to a gala. This woman went too. She tricked Yufei into going outside and then pushed her into the pool when no one was looking! Yufei can’t swim and almost drowned. She was in a coma for two days.”
All eyes turned to Si Yu.
Si Yu: “…”
The old woman looked at her in shock, then her expression softened. “Qiao Qiao couldn’t do something like that. There must be some misunderstanding.”
Si Yu was touched. “Thank you for believing me, Grandma. You’re right, there is a misunderstanding.”
“A misunderstanding my ass!” Lu Wei blurted out. “You wanted to kill her!”
“Wei Wei, no cussing!” the old woman reprimanded gently.
Lu Wei backed down a little. She pushed Liang Yufei. “Yufei, you tell them.”
Liang Yufei looked at Si Yu in fear. “She did push me. And she told me to go to hell.”
“Do you have proof?” Lu Xi asked, who hadn’t spoken until now.
Liang Yufei looked at Lu Xi, her face flushed. She shook her head. “No.”
The spot was secluded, with no cameras. At the time, it was just her and Si Yu by the pool.
Lu Xi looked at Si Yu with an unreadable expression. “Then how do you prove what you’re saying is true?” she asked, her voice flat.
Liang Yufei: “…”
Liang Yufei knew she had no chance of winning after that question. She bit her lower lip, and her eyes welled up.
Lu Wei couldn’t stand seeing her best friend upset. “Yufei wouldn’t lie! I believe her!”
A few pairs of eyes turned back to Si Yu. She had a huge headache.
The person who pushed Liang Yufei was the original character, “Si Yu,” not her. Although Si Yu was in this body, she didn’t want to take the blame for someone else.
If she did, she would never be able to get rid of the “wicked female supporting character” label. How could she then earn Lu Xi’s and the old woman’s trust?
Si Yu was extremely thankful that she had jumped into the water as well and even more so that this was the first time the original character had harmed the protagonist in public. There was still a way to turn this around.
Lu Xi’s expression was blank, but her eyes were deep. It was impossible to guess what she was thinking.
Si Yu took a deep breath. “I have no grudge against her. Why would I want to harm her?” she said calmly.
“Because my sister took Yufei home, and it was caught on camera. It went viral. You were jealous of Yufei! You have a twisted mind, so you wanted to harm her!”
This was indeed the original character’s reason for harming the original protagonist.
Si Yu composed herself. She looked at Liang Yufei. “I admit I was jealous. I was blinded by it and said some hurtful things to you, but I never wanted to hurt you. I was emotional and I accidentally knocked you into the water. I immediately jumped in to save you, but I forgot that I can’t swim, and I passed out.”
There was one thing Si Yu couldn’t figure out. In the novel, the protagonist woke up after getting CPR. Why had she been in a coma?
Lu Wei was like a firecracker that had just been lit. She shrieked, “Accidentally? You deliberately pushed Yufei in. How can you lie?!”
“If I wanted to hurt her, why would I fall into the water myself? I can’t swim. Would I jump in to commit suicide?” Si Yu said unflustered.
Lu Wei was speechless. She stiffened her neck and said, “You were just trying to run away but failed. You fell in yourself. You deserved it!”
“You’re making it sound like my IQ is below 50,” Si Yu said helplessly, spreading her hands. “It seems like no matter what I say, you’ll find a way to make it my fault. Is that right? You have no evidence. That’s what you call framing someone.”
The old woman, who was listening, couldn’t help but interject. “Wei Wei, I think Qiao Qiao’s logic is very clear. You, on the other hand, weren’t there. Why are you so certain Qiao Qiao deliberately harmed her?”
“I…” Lu Wei couldn’t think of a comeback right away. She belatedly noticed what the old woman was calling Si Yu. “Grandma, why are you calling her Qiao Qiao? She’s Si Yu—the Si Yu you hate! Did you take the wrong medicine? Why are you siding with her?”
The old woman massaged her aching temples and sighed deeply.
Tang Jie was afraid the old woman would get agitated again like yesterday. She hissed, “Wei Wei, how can you talk to Grandma like that!”
The old woman pushed away Lu Xi and Si Yu, who were trying to comfort her. She waved her hands to indicate that she was fine and said to Liang Yufei, “Miss Liang, Qiao Qiao said it was a misunderstanding, and I believe her. She accidentally caused you to fall into the water, which was wrong of her. I apologize on her behalf. Can you forgive her?”
Si Yu quickly said, “Grandma, it’s my fault. I should be the one to apologize to Miss Liang. Miss Liang, I’m sorry. I really did want to save you, even though I failed.”
Seeing the grandmother and “granddaughter” acting in concert, Liang Yufei knew she had lost. Si Yu had harmed her, but she didn’t have enough evidence to prove it.
Si Yu did fall into the water that day. Could she really have been trying to save her?
Liang Yufei had no words. She could only swallow her anger and nod.
Lu Wei threw a tantrum, calling it unfair, but no one paid her any attention.
To make amends, the old woman wanted to invite Liang Yufei to stay for dinner.
Lu Wei threw a fit and angrily pulled Liang Yufei away. “They don’t know right from wrong. We’re not eating with them. Come on, I’ll take you out for a nice meal.”
Liang Yufei looked back at the villa, her eyes full of reluctance. She could still see Lu Xi’s beautiful figure.
She wanted to stay, but since Lu Wei was acting like she was on her side, she didn’t feel comfortable saying anything.
Lu Wei thought she was sad and put an arm around her shoulder. “When we get the chance, I’ll help you get revenge.”
Liang Yufei hesitated.
Lu Wei continued, talking to herself, “My grandma has Alzheimer’s and mistook Si Yu for Qiao Qiao, so it makes sense that she’s helping her. But my sister clearly hates Si Yu. Why wasn’t she on our side?”
A hint of joy flashed in Liang Yufei’s eyes. She asked cautiously, “Are they very close?”
“Close my ass. I heard my sister is divorcing her.”
“When are they getting a divorce?”
“Soon, I guess.” Lu Wei looked at her suspiciously. “Why are you suddenly so interested in whether my sister gets a divorce?”
Liang Yufei panicked. “I…” she stammered.
Lu Wei could see her face turning red. She looked at her doubtfully. “You don’t… you don’t like my sister, do you?”
Liang Yufei panicked even more. “I don’t want to interfere in their marriage. I just…”
“It’s okay, it’s okay. Don’t be nervous. I get it,” Lu Wei said, patting her shoulder. “My sister and Si Yu are in a contract marriage. There’s no love between them at all. Since you like my sister, I’ll get her to dump that woman soon. I think you and my sister are a better match. If you married her, our families would be even closer.”
“They aren’t divorced yet. Don’t say things like that…”
“They will be soon,” Lu Wei insisted.
Liang Yufei couldn’t help but look back again. Thinking of the brief glimpse she had just had, she shyly lowered her head and whispered to herself, “Lu Xi.”
