Transmigrated as the Cannon Fodder Marked by the Villain (GL) - Chapter 29
Zhou Wan didn’t know what had happened, but it seemed that the falling out between Fu Qingyun and Ruan Jiyan was not a simple argument. It was different from what she had imagined.
“Jiyan, what exactly is going on between you and Fu Qingyun?”
Zhou Wan finally asked. She hadn’t wanted to bring up Ruan Jiyan’s heartache, but now she felt compelled to ask. Even if she couldn’t help, letting Ruan Jiyan talk might be beneficial.
“Sister, she…”
Ruan Jiyan choked up: “She said she wants to break up with me…”
Zhou Wan was stunned to hear this. She hadn’t expected their relationship to have reached this point. Only yesterday, she had seen them being so intimate. How could things have changed so drastically in just one day?
“Is there… some kind of misunderstanding?”
Ruan Jiyan shook her head. She didn’t want to disclose too much to Zhou Wan. Seeing her reluctance to discuss private matters, Zhou Wan placed the hot congee she had bought on the bedside table, urging Ruan Jiyan to eat it.
“I don’t have an appetite.”
Ruan Jiyan spoke weakly. Zhou Wan couldn’t help but worry, seeing her so lifeless. In her memory, Ruan Jiyan wasn’t the type to become so easily dejected. And judging by her tone, Fu Qingyun must have been the one to initiate the breakup.
But it didn’t make sense. They had been together for two or three years, endured life-threatening events, and had already smoothed out their personalities. The Fu Qingyun she knew wasn’t a reckless socialite; rather, others saw her as a devoted partner and the object of admiration for many Omegas.
The past few years hadn’t been easy for them. Ruan Jiyan was even engaged to Fu Qingyun. How could they break up just like that? Zhou Wan suspected there must be a huge misunderstanding.
“Zhou Wan, I’m fine now.”
Zhou Wan heard Ruan Jiyan say this lightly, but she didn’t believe the other woman’s lies at all. She loved deeply but was contradictory. She might even resort to self-harm when alone. The thought sent chills down Zhou Wan’s spine.
“Jiyan, if you don’t want to talk about it, then don’t. I know there must be a misunderstanding between you two. Once you’re discharged, you should find Fu Qingyun immediately and clear things up. Everything will be resolved then.”
“There’s no need,” Ruan Jiyan shook her head: “Thank you, Zhou Wan. I think there’s no room for reconciliation anymore.”
Zhou Wan frowned, feeling helpless. She couldn’t pry into private matters, and she wasn’t the type to meddle. She only focused on her own business and avoided saying the wrong thing. She would let Ruan Jiyan make her own decisions.
Ruan Jiyan hadn’t eaten anything. Zhou Wan tried to persuade her for a long time. If she continued to neither eat nor drink, not only would the wound on her forehead fail to heal quickly, but her health would also deteriorate. Ruan Jiyan was her direct superior and one of her few good friends from college. Seeing her so downcast made Zhou Wan feel uneasy.
While Ruan Jiyan closed her eyes, Zhou Wan went out to the corridor and called Lin Lesheng, asking her to contact Fu Qingyun immediately.
In fact, Zhou Wan was still thinking too simply. She believed there was still hope for reconciliation between the two, unaware that Ruan Jiyan’s actions were enough to destroy Fu Qingyun’s happiness forever.
“Yun’er, you must pull yourself together.”
Song Nanyan stayed by Fu Qingyun’s side, afraid she would do something to harm herself. To her, Fu Qingyun was like a sister. Seeing her loved one in this state made her restless.
“Yun’er, the moment I have any news about your brother, I will inform you immediately.”
“Thank you, Nanyan.”
Song Nanyan had to go back to deal with company matters. After staying with Fu Qingyun, she left. Fu Qingyun was now alone in the marital home she had meticulously decorated for Ruan Jiyan, smiling bitterly as she touched the engagement ring on her finger.
This ring was an invisible bond to her. She didn’t want to be constrained by this small silver circle anymore. Fu Qingyun’s hands trembled as she gently slipped it off her finger, walking to the bathroom to flush it down. But at the last moment, she couldn’t bear to do it.
The sound of flushing echoed. Fu Qingyun suppressed the tears that threatened to fall from her eyes, subconsciously looking at her bare left hand.
She just wanted to cut all ties with Ruan Jiyan.
During the phone call earlier, she had dialed Ruan Jiyan’s number almost out of muscle memory, without even needing to think.
Ruan Jiyan’s answer truly made her doubt her. Ruan Jiyan was good at deception, fooling their entire family. Fu Qingyun didn’t know how to tell Tang Ruowan about this. She clutched her head, feeling helpless.
Tang Ruowan’s love for Ruan Jiyan was like that for a biological daughter. If she found out that all of Ruan Jiyan’s actions were just a hoax, she might suffer a heart attack, which would only complicate things further.
For now, Fu Qingyun decided to keep the secret from Tang Ruowan. It wouldn’t be too late to reveal everything after they found Fu Qingyan.
Ruan Jiyan’s words kept echoing in Fu Qingyun’s mind. Thinking about it, she started to doubt her own judgment again. If Ruan Jiyan truly was the mastermind, she couldn’t find any evidence now.
Song Nanyan often called her a hopeless romantic. Fu Qingyun had always laughed it off, but now she realized she was the culprit who had invited the wolf into the house.
Fu Qingyun no longer lingered in the villa. She planned to hire someone to remove all the decorations later. She didn’t intend to live in this villa anymore. Instead of keeping it and constantly being reminded of her pain, it was better to completely destroy these efforts and finally sever her ties with Ruan Jiyan.
She drove alone to the Fu Corporation, intending to find Ruan Jiyan, but when she walked into the office, she didn’t see her.
Hearing one of the employees, Fu Qingyun learned that Ruan Jiyan hadn’t come in all morning, without calling in sick or providing any notice. Fu Qingyun walked around the building and didn’t see Zhou Wan either. She asked an Omega next to Zhou Wan’s desk and learned that Zhou Wan had taken leave to go to the hospital earlier that morning.
Zhou Wan went to the hospital and Ruan Jiyan disappeared simultaneously. Even without fully realizing it, Fu Qingyun knew Ruan Jiyan must have had an accident and was in the hospital.
Fu Qingyun sneered. This must be Ruan Jiyan’s so-called ‘pity play’—she wanted to get her attention this way.
Fu Qingyun had been through this “pity play” tactic to win her back countless times, but each time, Ruan Jiyan had successfully manipulated her. She had bled and cried for this person, and nearly died several times in her carefully laid traps.
What made Fu Qingyun laugh was that Ruan Jiyan actually thought she was an idiot, claiming all along that everything was just a desperate attempt to keep her by her side. This flimsy excuse wouldn’t be believed by anyone. Fu Qingyun only thought Ruan Jiyan was crazy, insane enough to come up with such an excuse.
The hospital.
If Ruan Jiyan really was in the hospital due to an accident, now was a good opportunity. Fu Qingyun had to ask her face-to-face if she was responsible for Fu Qingyan’s kidnapping. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have peace of mind.
It would take a long time to get over a failed relationship. Fu Qingyun tried to push it to the back of her mind. What she needed to do now was find Fu Qingyan quickly. The news of Fu Qingyan’s disappearance absolutely couldn’t become public, or the Fu family would face its demise.
This situation was caused by her, Fu Qingyun. Since she had adapted to this world’s life, she had to take on Fu Qingyun’s responsibilities. With Fu Qingyan gone, she was the backbone of the Fu family. Even if people didn’t acknowledge her, she had to reclaim all the power Ruan Jiyan had taken.
Fu Qingyun drove to the hospital. To be honest, she was afraid to drive alone. The two car accidents had given her severe PTSD. Driving alone was agonizing and painful. Fu Qingyun endured the overall discomfort, driving herself to the hospital.
She actually didn’t know which hospital Ruan Jiyan was in, but a call from Lin Lesheng informed her of Ruan Jiyan’s specific location.
“Yun’er, I heard about you and Ruan Jiyan…”
Hearing Lin Lesheng’s words, Fu Qingyun immediately knew what had happened. Zhou Wan was probably with Ruan Jiyan at the hospital, and Zhou Wan had called Lin Lesheng to comfort her.
That was likely the situation. Fu Qingyun guessed correctly. She only smiled but said nothing.
“Lesheng, you don’t need to try to persuade me. I am very clear-headed.”
“But…”
Lin Lesheng had nothing more to say. She felt like the Fu Qingyun on the phone had been kidnapped. Otherwise, given her personality, she wouldn’t say such heartless things.
“If I don’t love her, I don’t love her,” Fu Qingyun focused on the steering wheel, looking straight ahead: “I have nothing more to say to her. You don’t need to persuade me.”
If she hadn’t stubbornly ignored the system’s warning and stayed here, she wouldn’t have suffered such emotional devastation. She would have lived her life completely blind to Ruan Jiyan’s harmful actions. She would have cherished this virtual relationship and lived a happy life with this love that crossed time and space.
But her wishful thinking and rash gamble destined this tragedy. Saying she didn’t love her was a lie. Saying she would forgive Ruan Jiyan was even more impossible. If she were given another chance, Fu Qingyun would choose to leave without hesitation.
It was too late for anything now. She was the one who saved the person, and she was the one who caused the trouble. She had once naively believed she could successfully touch Ruan Jiyan’s heart, but she inevitably walked toward the final, dark ending.
Ruan Jiyan’s heart was dark from the start. No matter how much she tried, she couldn’t wash it clean.
“Ruan Jiyan…”
Fu Qingyun tightly gripped the steering wheel with both hands. She glanced at the passenger seat, murmuring to herself:
“I hope this is the last time you and I will ever meet.”
