Transmigrated as the Cannon Fodder Marked by the Villain (GL) - Chapter 9
Seeing Ruan Jiyan nibbling on a carrot in small bites, Fu Qingyun was clearly taken aback. She didn’t expect to run into her here when she got up in the middle of the night for a snack.
She remembered asking Ruan Jiyan earlier if she wanted something to eat, and the person had said she wasn’t hungry. Yet, here she was, caught in the act late at night.
The “little thief” caught sneaking a carrot was now gazing at her with wide, innocent eyes. This was the first time Fu Qingyun had seen such an expression on Ruan Jiyan’s face.
After a moment of surprise, Fu Qingyun walked over and said with a smile, “You must be hungry. I’ll make you something to eat.”
Ruan Jiyan clearly didn’t believe she could cook, so she shook her head.
She noticed Fu Qingyun’s gaze lingering on the half-eaten carrot in her hand, so she slowly lowered it and secretly hid it behind a large head of Chinese cabbage.
“You go lie down first. I’ll bring it up to you when it’s ready.”
“No.”
She didn’t know what the seemingly benevolent Fu Qingyun would put in her late-night snack, so she decided to stay right there and watch her cook. Otherwise, she wouldn’t feel safe or dare to eat it.
“I see.”
Fu Qingyun took off her coat. She looked at Ruan Jiyan, who had taken a step back and was full of vigilance, and gently draped the warm coat over her shoulders.
“You’re not wearing much. If you don’t want to go back to the room, just wait here for me. It will be ready soon.”
Ruan Jiyan’s heart was a mix of emotions. However, this way, she could monitor Fu Qingyun at all times. Yet, the oblivious Fu Qingyun simply thought Ruan Jiyan wanted to watch her cook. So, she prepared the ingredients while asking what the other person would like to eat.
“It’s cold. Would you like noodles, or do you prefer steak?”
Fu Qingyun had never been particularly fond of steak; she preferred rich-flavored Chinese food. However, she didn’t know Ruan Jiyan’s preferences, so she asked.
The response was another stretch of silence. Fu Qingyun patiently asked again, “Noodles or steak? Or should I stir-fry a dish for you?”
Ruan Jiyan only wanted to fill her stomach now, and she didn’t want to answer Fu Qingyun.
If it were anyone else facing Ruan Jiyan, they would have likely slammed the door and quit. But Fu Qingyun had a good temper. She opened the refrigerator, took out two eggs from the crisper, then waved them in front of Ruan Jiyan with a smile:
“Then you don’t like either. I’ll make you steamed eggs.”
Seeing Ruan Jiyan remain silent without any reaction, Fu Qingyun had to say, “Your silence means yes. Steamed eggs are quick to make.”
“Okay.”
Ruan Jiyan liked steamed eggs, but she didn’t like the person making them for her.
Fu Qingyun prepared the ingredients. She glanced at the half-eaten carrot hidden behind the Chinese cabbage, a slight smile in the corner of her eye.
It seems she likes carrots.
So, Fu Qingyun took out another one.
Upon seeing a few scallions in the refrigerator, Fu Qingyun turned and asked, “Do you eat scallions?”
Ruan Jiyan shook her head.
“That works.”
Fu Qingyun tossed the scallions into the trash can. She also didn’t like the smell of scallions. It seemed she and Ruan Jiyan had something in common, like disliking scallions.
Ruan Jiyan didn’t believe Fu Qingyun could cook at all, but when she saw her incredibly skillful cutting of the carrot into small cubes, Ruan Jiyan froze on the spot.
In her memory, Fu Qingyun was a spoiled young miss who never did manual labor. How could she possibly do these things, and look so incredibly proficient?
Fu Qingyun glanced back and saw Ruan Jiyan staring at her.
The original owner couldn’t cook. Fu Qingyun guessed Ruan Jiyan was becoming suspicious, so she casually lied, “I haven’t cooked in a long time. I used to like steamed eggs, so I secretly learned. I don’t know if it will suit your taste.”
Sure enough, as soon as she said this, Fu Qingyun saw Ruan Jiyan’s gaze shift elsewhere.
“Don’t worry, I won’t tamper with it.”
Ruan Jiyan’s body stiffened. It seemed her thoughts had been guessed by Fu Qingyun long ago, but she hadn’t expected the other party to say it to her face.
“I know you still don’t trust me,” Fu Qingyun placed the two bowls of mixed vegetables and eggs into the pot, then pulled over a chair for Ruan Jiyan to sit down:
“Sit down and wait for a moment. Steamed eggs are quick.”
Ruan Jiyan’s gaze fell on the pot. She gripped the collar of Fu Qingyun’s coat, then lowered her head to stare at her toes.
She hadn’t felt cold earlier, but after being in the kitchen for a while, she felt a chill in her calves.
“Are you feeling cold?” Fu Qingyun instantly saw that Ruan Jiyan was probably cold, so she said, “You go upstairs first. I’ll bring it to your room later.”
Still receiving no response from Ruan Jiyan, a faint silence hung in the air. Fu Qingyun had to say, “Well, it will be ready soon, so why don’t you wait in the kitchen with me?”
Fu Qingyun felt that Ruan Jiyan was traumatized, which was why she didn’t want to engage with her. Her good temper was one thing, but facing Ruan Jiyan, who didn’t want to communicate, made her feel like she was talking to a robot.
She admitted she had wronged Ruan Jiyan, but this couldn’t go on.
It was all her fault. Ruan Jiyan hated her, so she didn’t want excessive verbal or physical contact with her.
Fu Qingyun understood, she just hoped the other party could drop her guard against her soon.
During the steaming time, Fu Qingyun leaned by the sink, bored. She looked at the frozen meat in the refrigerator. It wouldn’t thaw anytime soon.
The steamed eggs were ready quickly. The moment Fu Qingyun lifted the lid, a burst of steam rushed out, fogging up her face.
Almost simultaneously, Ruan Jiyan smelled the steamed eggs. She subconsciously walked over to look.
“It’s ready. Time to eat.”
Fu Qingyun put on gloves and took out the two bowls of steamed eggs. The two of them ate the steamed eggs right there in the kitchen.
The golden steamed egg melted in the mouth, with a faint, sweet taste on the tongue.
Ruan Jiyan stared at the bowl of steamed eggs. She used the spoon to pick up a piece of diced carrot and slowly put it into her mouth.
It tasted good.
It also had a very familiar flavor.
Ruan Jiyan quickly finished the steamed eggs, but she wasn’t full yet. Her stomach was still empty. She looked up at Fu Qingyun, who was slowly eating her own steamed eggs.
“More.”
Hearing this, Fu Qingyun quickly finished the steamed egg in her bowl. She collected both their dishes and utensils, smiling, “I made too little. Why don’t you go up? It’s cold down here.”
Ruan Jiyan shook her head. She licked her lips, which were coated with a sweet taste, and looked at Fu Qingyun:
“I’ll wait for you.”
Fu Qingyun was actually worried about her being cold, but Ruan Jiyan insisted on waiting in the kitchen, and no amount of persuasion worked.
The steamed egg operation resumed. Fu Qingyun found a sweet corn in the crisper. After asking Ruan Jiyan if she wanted corn, she started peeling it.
This kind of fruit corn could be eaten raw. Fu Qingyun thought mixing it with the diced carrots would be a unique flavor.
She was busy in the kitchen for a long time, and Ruan Jiyan finally got to eat the corn steamed egg she was craving.
Fu Qingyun heated two cups of milk. She held the hot milk with both hands, watching Ruan Jiyan eating the steamed eggs in small bites with great interest.
“Is it tasty?”
“Mm.”
Finally, the endless silence was broken. Fu Qingyun rested her head on her hands, watching Ruan Jiyan, but the other woman simply took the milk from her sight as if she wasn’t there.
Someone finally complimented her cooking, even if it was just an “mm.” Fu Qingyun felt happy because the person eating her food was Ruan Jiyan.
Ruan Jiyan took a small sip of the hot milk. Some milk stains clung to her pale pink lips, which she lightly licked with her tongue. Fu Qingyun originally wanted to look away, but her eyes met Ruan Jiyan’s instead.
She moved her gaze away like a thief, but her mind uncontrollably wanted to replay that moment.
“You finish eating. I’ll go wash the pot.”
Ruan Jiyan watched Fu Qingyun walking stiffly, her eyes darkening.
As expected, a leopard never changes its spots. A person like Fu Qingyun deserves to die.
It seemed her initial guess was correct: Fu Qingyun was only putting on this emotional act to sleep with her, and she genuinely thought she was simple and easy to deceive.
Fu Qingyun, still unaware of the danger approaching, washed the pot. She felt the atmosphere was strange right now, as if someone was holding a knife aimed at her back.
Fu Qingyun instinctively looked back, only to see Ruan Jiyan, who had finished a cup of milk, sitting obediently on the chair.
“I’m full.”
