Transmigrated as the Domineering Scumbag Alpha Forced into Marriage by a Delicate Subordinate (GL) - Chapter 27
The System expressed confusion over Qin Jue’s sudden question: “Host, we are certainly not human.”
Qin Jue: “…”
As if a breath was caught in her throat, Qin Jue was left speechless by the System. Indeed, this kind of supernatural entity was certainly not human.
“Host, in case you forgot, I’ll remind you that you are inside a novel. Tang Yun is the protagonist of the book, nothing more,” the System said.
Qin Jue clearly understood the System’s meaning: all the love and hate here were fake, all pre-set. She was just an outsider with a task, and it was enough to obediently finish her part of the plot. Qin Jue initially thought this way, too.
But she didn’t know when the boundary between reality and fiction became blurred in her eyes. She was immersed in the destinies of these characters, twenty-four hours a day. Novel characters had established personas, but Qin Jue witnessed these programmatic personas crack, allowing her to glimpse the unspoken suffering of each household. That’s why Qin Jue couldn’t help but help Mrs. Qin reclaim the family business, help Qin Yao fend off Guan Li’s forced marriage, and feel regret and guilt after using Tang Yun.
The System was not human, but Qin Jue was. Moreover, Tang Yun’s experience made it difficult for Qin Jue not to be reminded of her own, making her particularly empathetic.
Qin Jue finally knew why Tang Yun, who clearly didn’t love money, still signed that agreement with the original host. All the confusion pointed to the simplest answer. Unlike the former Qin Jue, Tang Yun did not have substantial resources left by her parents to let her lie low and stage a comeback, nor could she impulsively sink herself to the bottom of the water when stressed, wishing for a quick end. She had a sick younger sister she needed to support.
On the surface, the original host and Tang Yun signed the contract out of mutual consent, but it couldn’t escape the fact that she was taking advantage of someone’s desperate situation. Qin Jue took over for the original host and felt she had no confidence when facing Tang Yun.
Tang Yun was required to be on call 24/7, constantly under Qin Jue’s watchful eye from morning to night. She must not have been able to visit her sister in the hospital for a long time, right?
Qin Jue pulled out Tang Yun’s WeChat and asked her: “Should I give you a holiday?”
Tang Yun replied extremely fast: “CEO Qin, did I do something wrong?”
“Or, does CEO Qin have another arrangement?”
Qin Jue: “…”
From those two short lines, Qin Jue sensed a feeling of unnecessary alarm. It seemed the suspension had left too deep a psychological shadow on the girl. Giving her a holiday right after reinstating her did look suspicious, but CEO Qin’s intentions now were purely kind.
Qin Jue took a deep breath. The System was warning her again. According to her persona, she couldn’t show such obvious favor to Tang Yun.
“No arrangement. You…” Qin Jue typed it out word by word, not knowing what layer of malicious intent she should cover it with to express her meaning smoothly. Her mood was far from calm, which visibly affected CEO Qin’s performance.
Knock, knock—
The person knocked twice and then pushed the door open directly.
“CEO Qin.” Tang Yun came straight to the office.
Qin Jue acted as if she was caught red-handed. She quickly flipped over the documents about Tang Yun on the desk, covering them up. After this set of actions, her mind hadn’t yet come up with a reasonable explanation for her guilty behavior.
“CEO Qin, you promised me last time that you would be direct if you had an arrangement,” Tang Yun said.
She must have rushed over as soon as she received Qin Jue’s message. Her chest was rapidly rising and falling; she looked both excited and nervous.
Tang Yun noticed Qin Jue’s gaze, her face changed color, and she raised her hand to cover herself, then suddenly remembered her status and awkwardly put her hand down.
Qin Jue: “…”
It seemed her persona remained as stable as ever in Tang Yun’s eyes.
“Don’t worry, this is a workplace. I have a cleanliness fetish when it comes to work,” Qin Jue squeezed this sentence out through gritted teeth.
“Huh?” Tang Yun seemed not to understand.
Hadn’t Qin Jue arranged for Tang Yun to work at the company precisely to keep her close? Wasn’t office play one of Qin Jue’s major fetishes? Tang Yun had already worked hard to convince herself to accept it.
“If you want it, I… I should be able to cooperate,” Tang Yun confirmed again.
Qin Jue: “…I don’t.”
Tang Yun looked utterly bewildered, while Qin Jue felt as if she had been insulted.
Interrupted by Tang Yun this many times, the surging guilt and compensatory feelings in Qin Jue’s heart finally fragmented. Free from these performance-hindering emotions, CEO Qin’s clever IQ once again took the high ground. She figured out how to smooth over the clearly benevolent message she had sent earlier, all while under the System’s watchful eye.
“I mean, Louis is coming to visit soon, and you will accompany me. Consider it a holiday,” Qin Jue said.
When in doubt, bring Louis out as a shield.
“Understood, CEO Qin. Just make the arrangements,” Tang Yun nodded obediently.
Qin Jue: “…”
A secretary who unashamedly told her boss to make the arrangements—Qin Jue was encountering this for the first time. But there was no helping it; this Secretary Tang was a connection Qin Jue had personally pushed in, so she had no one else to blame.
“Alright, go back. Leave work early today,” Qin Jue waved Tang Yun away, then wearily pinched the bridge of her nose.
Finally, at the end of the day, the benefit of having her close finally showed. Qin Jue didn’t have to text Tang Yun and then wait for her in the dark basement garage. She walked straight to Tang Yun’s cubicle and tapped the desk. Tang Yun immediately shut down her computer without delay.
The others in the office exchanged glances.
In the car, Qin Jue and Tang Yun sat side-by-side in the back seat. The shops along the street rushed past. Qin Jue watched aimlessly, then suddenly noticed Tang Yun seemed to be watching her reflection in the car window.
“What are you looking at?” Qin Jue asked.
“I’m looking at CEO Qin,” Tang Yun answered without reservation.
Qin Jue turned to look at Tang Yun and smiled: “Why are you looking at me? Am I beautiful?”
Qin Jue was indeed beautiful. If it were a stunning Alpha who had nothing to do with Tang Yun on the street, she would certainly take a few extra glances. But Qin Jue was different. Staring at Qin Jue like this was mainly because she had a question in mind.
“CEO Qin, what kind of play do you actually like?” Tang Yun asked.
“Cough, cough, cough, cough, cough, cough…” Qin Jue burst into a fit of coughing. The driver in the front silently raised the partition between the front and back seats, focusing on see no evil, hear no evil.
“I thought you liked office play, which is why you told me to come to work,” Tang Yun said.
“I said I don’t like it. I don’t accept it!” Qin Jue gnashed her teeth.
“Why not? Don’t you find it exciting? Don’t all you CEOs enjoy that?” Tang Yun pressed.
“All you CEOs? How many CEOs have you met?” Qin Jue was practically laughing with exasperation.
“Tang Yun, what kind of garbage is filling your brain?” Qin Jue wondered.
Qin Jue was clearly the sugar parent and Tang Yun the sugar baby, but unfortunately, Qin Jue was too young to have been intimate when she was being the young master, and when she grew up, she had no interest in playing around. She was in a state of having neither experienced nor seen much, and she couldn’t keep up with Tang Yun’s imagination.
“Host, you can’t keep this up,” the System said, heartbroken.
“You are too restrained. Tang Yun is going to get suspicious,” the System warned.
Qin Jue cursed the original host’s persona for the countless time. The original host lusted after Tang Yun’s body, which meant Qin Jue, as the successor, was required to madly rush down that path. Why?
“Pull over,” CEO Qin commanded.
The car stopped. A convenience store light was on by the roadside. Qin Jue opened the door and got out. Tang Yun was confused.
“Do you need to buy something?” Tang Yun asked.
Qin Jue’s face was cold: “Fingercots.”
Tang Yun: “!”
Tang Yun quickly followed Qin Jue out of the car. Her heart rate spiked as she watched Qin Jue walk directly into the convenience store with a clear purpose.
She thought she might have said the wrong thing.
“CEO Qin, I…” Tang Yun called out softly, trailing behind Qin Jue.
Qin Jue didn’t stop: “Don’t you want excitement?”
The glass door of the convenience store clearly reflected Tang Yun’s distress. Qin Jue saw Tang Yun’s pale face and immediately softened up.
But she also hadn’t flirted in a long time and needed to reinforce her persona occasionally. Tang Yun following her made things difficult. Qin Jue had only intended to get out of the car as a feint, but now it seemed she had to grit her teeth and actually buy something.
Qin Jue pushed the glass door open. Tang Yun followed her closely like a young wife who had made a mistake, her palms slightly sweaty, her breathing laced with nervousness.
Her agreement with Qin Jue had been signed a long time ago. In all fairness, Qin Jue had given her enough time to adjust and even provided her with a seemingly decent job. These things were outside the scope of the agreement, and Qin Jue didn’t have to do them.
Qin Jue was such a gentle and thoughtful sugar parent. Their constant proximity easily gave Tang Yun the illusion that she could sit on an equal footing with Qin Jue. Therefore, it wasn’t her own fault that Qin Jue finally took action after the things she said in the office and the car. She was, after all, obliged to cooperate.
CEO Qin paid the money; she provided the service. This was, after all, the foundation of their relationship.
Qin Jue finally reached the cashier. The employee in the uniform saw the two customers with empty hands and politely asked, “Hello, do you need anything?”
Under the cashier’s clean gaze, the brilliant and mighty Qin Jue had her first verbal block.
So, could anyone tell her how to ask for that thing?
“Can I help you with anything?” the employee asked for the second time.
Tang Yun subtly tugged on Qin Jue’s sleeve, pointing in a direction.
Tang Yun had worked part-time at a convenience store for a while. She knew where all the merchandise was located. Things like that were usually placed on the outer side of the counter where customers could easily grab them.
Qin Jue followed the direction Tang Yun pointed and looked down—two whole shelves, colorful.
Why hadn’t she ever noticed them before!
Employee: “Excuse me…”
Thwack—
Before the employee could ask for the third time, Qin Jue closed her eyes, casually grabbed a pink box, and threw it onto the counter.
“Check out,” Qin Jue said.
It seemed the arrangement of the convenience store did have its merits. No need to ask, no need to explain, no need to speak. Good.
The employee raised an eyebrow, quickly scanned the faces of Qin Jue and Tang Yun, and tried hard to maintain a straight face while swiftly completing the scan and payment process.
Qin Jue shoved the pink hot potato into her pocket and turned to walk out. She felt the employee’s reaction was a bit strange.
Shouldn’t she be used to it?
System: “But Host, you picked the strawberry-flavored one with ribs.”
Hehe~
