Transmigrated as the Domineering Scumbag Alpha Forced into Marriage by a Delicate Subordinate (GL) - Chapter 9
The chopsticks in Tang Yun’s hand slipped, and she looked at Qin Jue with a face full of shock. Qin Jue slowly picked up a small piece of food and chewed it deliberately, as if she hadn’t been the one who just spoke.
“You… the doctor said you need to rest…” Tang Yun practically bit out the words. She had assumed that Qin Jue would at least be clean-living and quiet for a couple of days while hospitalized, so Tang Yun hadn’t expected to overestimate Qin Jue’s lower limit.
“So, you kept me here for this?” Tang Yun asked.
“What else?” Qin Jue countered.
Tang Yun closed her eyes and took a deep breath, softly saying, “I understand.”
Qin Jue felt that her depraved and unprincipled persona was once again firmly established. Tang Yun was visibly uneasy and had no appetite for dinner. Stopping there, the effect was good. Qin Jue even felt that the hospital cafeteria’s patient meal was slightly more palatable.
After dinner, Qin Jue opened the laptop of the original owner that the driver had delivered and started working from the hospital bed. She currently knew nothing about Changfeng Technology’s operations. A week in the hospital was a good buffer, preventing her from making mistakes when she went to the company.
Qin Jue stared at the original owner’s computer, her head aching. No wonder the original owner was being sidelined by Guan Li. As the helmsman of a company, she wasn’t grasping the necessary information or holding onto vital power, thinking only of chasing women every day. Was there no trace of real-world logic in the world of a novel?
In the silent ward, besides the sound of Qin Jue tapping the keyboard, there was no other movement. Tang Yun quietly huddled on the nearby sofa, watching Qin Jue with suspicion.
When exactly was she planning to take that bath?
“Tsk.” Qin Jue seemed a little irritated. She tapped the side of the laptop with her index finger and ordered without lifting her head: “Coffee.”
Tang Yun: “Huh?”
Complete lack of rapport.
Qin Jue’s gaze moved away from the screen, her tightly furrowed brows not yet smoothed out. In her memory, her Secretary Zhou, who had traveled the world with her, wouldn’t suddenly be so unobservant. Qin Jue subconsciously spoke again to the figure beside her: “I want water.”
“Oh, okay.” Tang Yun instinctively answered, pouring a cup of steaming hot water and handing it to Qin Jue.
Qin Jue: “…”
Tang Yun: “…”
Qin Jue sadly realized that she had transmigrated. She only had the victim, Secretary Tang, beside her now; her capable partner, Secretary Zhou, was gone.
Qin Jue rubbed her temples, letting out an involuntary sigh. “Remember, I don’t drink hot water when I’m working. I prefer an iced Americano. If not, plain water will do, but not hot.”
Cold water kept her awake. She needed to stay awake at all times.
“What about this cup?” Tang Yun asked.
“Deal with it yourself,” Qin Jue said succinctly.
She was so shocked by the mess left by the original owner that she had no time to be gentle with a corporate novice. After saying that, Qin Jue redirected her attention to the screen, catching sight of a cup of cold water placed by her hand. She picked it up and drank it in one go.
“Caffeine can put a strain on your heart,” Tang Yun said abruptly.
Qin Jue turned her head and met Tang Yun’s gaze. Tang Yun herself couldn’t figure out why she had suddenly blurted out that sentence. The thought just occurred and was spoken naturally, making it sound like she was very concerned about Qin Jue.
No need, absolutely no need.
“Thank you,” Qin Jue said.
Tang Yun: “…”
Tang Yun self-consciously looked away, feeling extremely uncomfortable listening to the clatter of the keyboard. Finally, the liquid in the IV drip ran out. Tang Yun felt a great sense of relief and quickly called the nurse to remove the needle for Qin Jue. With a third person present, she finally felt she could breathe freely in the ward.
The nurse came in and performed the necessary procedures. Qin Jue leaned back on her pillow with her eyes closed, resting. The laptop was conspicuously placed on the small bedside table, causing the nurse to repeat the attending physician’s instructions before leaving: “The patient must pay special attention to rest for the next few days. Work can wait. And of course, in the future, you must be careful not to overexert yourself.”
“Yes, I understand,” Qin Jue replied.
After the nurse left, Qin Jue opened her eyes. She had been the same way during a winter when she was working non-stop on a major project. She had a severe cold and was on an IV drip for several days. She was given special attention by all the nurses in the ward, and anyone who found her secretly working would nag her incessantly like a monk chanting scriptures. As a result, Qin Jue had developed a muscle memory of playing dead whenever a nurse approached.
Things change.
Qin Jue gave a bitter smile and glanced at the time. It was very late. If it were her old colleagues from the hospital, they would definitely be loudly ordering her to go to sleep by now.
System: “Cough, cough. Just a reminder, there’s still a ‘canary’ on today’s to-do list.”
Qin Jue: “!”
Qin Jue almost choked on the System’s sudden mention of “to-do list.” She didn’t know if it was because she had a System composed purely of dirty thoughts in her head, but Qin Jue somehow felt the term “to-do list” carried a certain connotation, making her unable to look at her actual memo app the same way again.
Fine, it’s the extra workload I gave myself. I should handle it quickly.
The nurse left, and silence descended upon the ward once more. Qin Jue moved the laptop aside and raised a hand to rub her temples, conveniently shielding her eyes, which might betray her true feelings.
“Come with me to take a bath,” Qin Jue said.
Tang Yun sprang up instantly, as if a needle had jabbed her on the sofa.
“N-now?” Tang Yun asked.
Qin Jue: “Now.”
“I… I’ll go adjust the water temperature first.” Tang Yun rushed out immediately.
The VIP ward had a bathtub. Tang Yun turned on the hot water and crouched motionless beside the tub, waiting for it to fill. Hot steam billowed up, and her face began to flush. What was inevitable would ultimately come. She was determined to face it bravely.
“Is the water ready?” Qin Jue asked.
Tang Yun rubbed her face, ordering herself to calm down. Suppressing her voice to hide her panic, she answered, “It is.”
She returned to the bedside and helped Qin Jue get off the bed. Qin Jue’s hand rested on her shoulder, pressing right over the sensitive skin of her nape. Tang Yun turned her face to glance at Qin Jue’s expression. Qin Jue’s face was normal.
Pah! She’s probably used to taking advantage of Omegas!
The bathroom was enveloped in warm steam. The overhead light cast a harsh, warm glow. Qin Jue tested the temperature with her finger, then turned to look at Tang Yun without saying a word.
Tang Yun felt this was Qin Jue’s way of telling her to take the initiative.
Tang Yun gritted her teeth. She had taken the money; this hurdle had to be cleared. She hesitated for a moment, then slowly reached up to touch the buttons of her shirt.
“Turn around,” Qin Jue said.
Tang Yun: “?”
“In such a rush?” Qin Jue asked with a smile.
Tang Yun felt all the blood rush to her head. How dare Qin Jue call her rushed? Did she have to humiliate her like this?!
Tang Yun spun around in shame and anger, her chest heaving violently with deep, angry breaths as she lowered her head.
The rustle of fabric came from behind Tang Yun, and then a patient gown was abruptly thrust into her hand. The fabric was still warm from body heat.
Shameless!
Tang Yun’s anger reached a new peak in an instant. She sharply lifted her head, intending to give Qin Jue a piece of her mind, but suddenly noticed a corner of the mirror on the washbasin in her peripheral vision. That corner perfectly reflected the scene behind her.
Boom—
Something exploded in Tang Yun’s mind.
She quickly looked away, as if she had seen something filthy. Her heartbeat spiked to an alert level, and her entire body stiffened as if facing a formidable enemy.
Was Qin Jue doing this on purpose? Knowing there was a mirror, so she told her to turn around?
Tang Yun felt unable to think. She thought she had finally prepared herself, but that one glance made her realize the vast Pacific Ocean still lay between her and the wicked CEO Qin. She stood rigidly in place, waiting for CEO Qin’s next judgment.
In the bathtub, water splashed. Qin Jue only rested the arm that had received the IV and contrast injection that day outside the tub, comfortably sliding down into the water, closing her eyes to enjoy the warm water surging and enveloping her from all sides.
Today’s KPI for bullying the female lead should be met, she thought. Tang Yun was so mad at my words that she was almost in tears.
That’s enough. If I keep acting, I won’t know how to wrap it up. So, Qin Jue spoke: “You can go out now.”
“Mhm,” Tang Yun instinctively replied.
Tang Yun: “Huh?”
Had she heard correctly? Go out, not come in?
Tang Yun blinked. She still didn’t have the courage to ask again. If she did, she didn’t know what more offensive words Qin Jue would have waiting for her. So, Tang Yun picked up the clothes Qin Jue had changed out of and stiffly walked out of the bathroom.
Her mind was full of confusion.
Don’t think too much. Don’t try to understand CEO Qin’s thought process. I’m just getting paid to do a job. I’ll just do whatever CEO Qin tells me to…
Tang Yun repeated this mantra over and over in her head, finally calming herself down. Everything was for the sake of the money. She had to achieve a state of being unmoved by external joys or personal sorrows.
The bathroom door was quite soundproof; she couldn’t hear any movement inside. Just when Tang Yun was starting to suspect that Qin Jue had passed out while soaking, she finally heard her sugar daddy’s command again.
“Bring my clothes in,” Qin Jue said.
Tang Yun mechanically took a fresh set of patient clothes from the cabinet, mechanically walked to the bathroom door, politely knocked three times, and then opened the door a small crack, passing Qin Jue’s clothes through the gap.
Qin Jue emerged fully dressed. She hadn’t exposed anything or said anything humiliating, as if she hadn’t gone to take a bath, but rather to cleanse her filthy soul.
Tang Yun helped Qin Jue back to the bed. Then, she took a quick, combat-style shower herself. She certainly didn’t dare to use the bathtub Qin Jue had used, and she didn’t even dare to look at the tub while in the shower.
The VIP ward had a dedicated companion bed, so she didn’t have to sleep on the floor next to Qin Jue like a maid. Before sleeping, she hesitated for a moment with Qin Jue’s water cup, filled it with hot water, and placed it by the bedside. Then, she scurried over to her own companion bed and pulled the blanket up to her chin.
This was her first time sleeping in the same room as Qin Jue. The time at the old house didn’t count; she hadn’t slept at all that night.
Tang Yun now even wished Qin Jue would assign her another all-night project, any project at all.
Too bad. That damned capitalist! Why let your employee sleep now?! How was she supposed to sleep?
The moment Tang Yun closed her eyes, that fleeting glimpse in the mirror roared to life, filling her entire consciousness, like a form of psychological pollution.
Damn it, so pale!
And why does she have a cinnabar mole there?!
