What's Wrong with Spoiling You? [Entertainment Industry] - Chapter 18
Tan Yun pouted, giving her mother a resentful look as she watched her peel an apple.
Tan Mu took a bite of the apple. “How come you didn’t bring me anything from your trip?”
Tan Yun defended herself, “I did bring you something!”
Tan Mu rummaged through the bag again and pulled out a card. “This was also given by the neighbor—a discount card for a beauty salon. I’ll go get a treatment sometime.”
Tan Yun leaned in for a closer look and was surprised to see it was a VIP gold card. Her eyes widened—this must have cost a fortune. The beauty was really generous. Could it be because of her?
“What’s that look for?” Tan Mu placed the gold card on the table.
Tan Yun averted her gaze. “Mom, since the sister across the hall gave us so much, shouldn’t we return the favor? Like, maybe I could go help her clean or something?”
Tan Mu took another bite of the apple, her expression full of disdain. “Don’t even think about it. You don’t even clean your own room, let alone someone else’s.”
“Who says?” Tan Yun wanted to argue. She had already promised the beauty she’d clean her place. Even though it was late at night—not the most appropriate time—just the thought of it made her heart race.
Tan Mu saw right through her but didn’t call her out. “I’ve already invited her over for dinner tonight.”
Tan Yun’s fantasy was shattered. “Mom, be honest—do you have some kind of issue or misunderstanding with the girl across the hall?”
Tan Mu shrugged. “What issue could I have? I’m cooking for her myself today.”
Suspicious, Tan Yun cupped her mother’s face with both hands and studied her for a long moment. “Mom, don’t mess with me.”
“Didn’t you want to talk to her about modeling? You can ask her when she comes over for dinner.” Tan Mu patted her hand, looking like she had her best interests at heart.
Tan Yun pulled her hands back and went to check the fridge. When she saw only a few cabbages inside, her lips twitched. “Mom, is this really what you’re planning to serve her?”
Tan Mu retorted, “What’s wrong with cabbage? It’s nutritious.”
“Mom, I’ve never known you to be this stingy before.” She closed the fridge and went to change her shoes by the door. “I’ll go buy groceries.”
Tan Mu glanced at her but didn’t stop her. The moment the door closed, her eyes darkened. She set the apple aside and pulled out a magazine hidden beneath the sofa cushion.
Tan Yun didn’t head straight downstairs to buy groceries after closing the door. Instead, she lingered in front of Yun Bo’s apartment, debating whether to knock and say a few words. She fiddled with the key around her neck, her heart tangled like a pretzel. In the end, she decided to wait until dinner to see her.
Just as she turned to leave, there was a click—the door opened, and the beauty’s smiling face appeared before her.
“Ah? What a coincidence, are you heading out too?” Tan Yun greeted her awkwardly.
“Not a coincidence.” Yun Bo released the doorknob and leaned against the doorframe.
Tan Yun felt a little dizzy from her words, unsure if she meant what Tan Yun hoped she meant.
The beauty spoke earnestly, “I’ve been waiting for you.”
I’ve been waiting for you…
Waiting for you…
Unable to contain her excitement, Tan Yun stammered, “W-waiting for me? Why? I…”
Yun Bo laughed at her reaction and straightened up, taking a step forward. “Where are you going? I’ll come with you.”
After speaking, she flicked her fingers and closed the door. Tan Yun was still in a daze, staring at the beauty in casual homewear before her. She secretly pinched her thigh, wincing at the pain, before realizing this wasn’t just her imagination.
Yun Bo noticed her staring intently and glanced down at her own sportswear. “Does it not look good?”
“No, no, it’s beautiful!” Tan Yun nodded repeatedly. She had always thought Yun Bo only suited qipaos, never imagining she’d look stunning in anything.
“As long as you like it.” Yun Bo had changed into this outfit specifically for her. While buying groceries earlier, she’d realized how out of place her qipao looked amidst the crowd.
Returning home, she’d searched through her wardrobe only to find rows of qipaos—no other clothes. So she’d gone downstairs to buy this tracksuit.
As long as I like it? Tan Yun mulled over her words, her mind turning to mush. Stuttering, she asked, “Um… if I go grocery shopping… would you come?”
“Grocery shopping?” Yun Bo pressed her lips together, seemingly considering it.
Tan Yun gazed at her hopefully, whispering, “Actually… I’d really like you to come…”
Yun Bo took a deep breath, as if reaching a decision. “I’d like to go with you too.”
Walking down the street beside this beauty, Tan Yun felt like she was dreaming. She stole glances at the woman beside her, quickly looking away each time. Only when they reached the supermarket did she regain some clarity.
Yun Bo pushed the shopping cart, her long hair casually tied up. Her slender fingers picked through the fresh greens, the sight utterly captivating.
“Yun Bo, what kind of dishes do you like?” Tan Yun thought to herself, Whatever you like, I’ll cook for you.
The person before her always wore her heart on her sleeve. Yun Bo saw right through her. “I’ll love anything Xiao Yun makes.”
“Really? I can actually cook a lot of things.” She grabbed a potato and tossed it into the cart.
“I know. You’re capable, hardworking, and incredibly healthy.” Of course, to Yun Bo, the first few compliments meant little—what mattered was the last one.
Under the beauty’s scrutinizing gaze, Tan Yun tilted her head, unable to decipher her expression. Unsure whether Yun Bo was pleased or not, she ventured, “Yun Bo… do you have a sister?”
“One.” Though that was Yun Duan’s family. By the time Yun Bo arrived, Yun Duan had already cut ties with them. She’d met the sister once—only because she hadn’t known Yun Duan was forced to send money home every week.
Truthfully, she pitied Yun Duan. The car accident had left her disfigured, yet not a single word of concern came from her family—only demands for monthly payments.
Even more absurdly, her half-sister had used the opportunity to climb over her.
Yun Bo shook her head mockingly and picked out two ribs. “But I don’t like her.”
Tan Yun let out a quiet “Mm,” her mind wandering again. Does she treat me well just because I’m obedient?
After selecting Tan Yun’s favorite ingredients, Yun Bo asked, “What does your mother like to eat?”
Tan Yun glanced at the cart, already overflowing. “No need, this is more than enough.”
Yun Bo, of course, disagreed. Her goal was to win over her future mother-in-law. “Not enough. This is only what Xiao Yun likes.”
Only then did Tan Yun realize—everything in the cart was indeed her own preference.
