What's Wrong with Spoiling You? [Entertainment Industry] - Chapter 20
“Is it really this one? Let me smell it.” With that, she actually leaned in to take a whiff.
Startled, Tan Yun stepped back, nearly bumping into the discount shelf. With a gasp, she stumbled backward.
Yun Bo’s lips curled almost imperceptibly as she caught Tan Yun’s soft waist. Right before her eyes was that face that had haunted her memories.
Tan Yun’s eyes were filled with startled uncertainty, her breath held.
Unable to resist, Yun Bo bent down, her pink lips now just an inch away.
Tan Yun’s mind went blank, and she closed her eyes.
Crash—
The discounted items nearby toppled over, revealing several crouching staff members behind them.
“Wait a second,” she opened her eyes, her face flushed crimson.
Yun Bo, already at her boiling point, asked hoarsely, “What’s wrong?”
“Th-there are people here…”
“Don’t mind them.”
“Next time… can we find somewhere with no people?” If they were caught here, surrounded by acquaintances…
Yun Bo understood her hesitation—hadn’t she once been the same?
Now that Tan Yun was by her side, what harm was there in waiting? There would be plenty of time to have her way eventually.
“Alright,” she said.
The cool touch of Yun Bo’s nose brushed against hers, and the weight pressing down on her slowly faded.
The expected kiss never came, leaving an inexplicable disappointment in her heart.
Opening her eyes, she saw Yun Bo looking down at her with a smile.
Flustered, Tan Yun removed the hand still resting on her waist and crouched to pick up the scattered items, murmuring dejectedly, “You should hurry and finish shopping, or we won’t be eating until midnight.”
Yun Bo could clearly see her disappointment. From now on, she would never let this person suffer even the slightest hurt again.
“Xiao Yun, are you unhappy?” She picked up a face mask from the shelf, feeling a pang of regret for not mustering the courage to kiss her earlier.
Tan Yun stacked the items neatly and shook her head.
It wasn’t unhappiness—just embarrassment.
Yun Bo grabbed something from a nearby shelf and tossed it into the basket. “We’ve got enough. Let’s go.”
In today’s society, couples hugging in public was nothing unusual. But two women embracing like this could still draw unwanted attention.
By the time they realized it, they were already surrounded by a crowd. Yun Bo pulled Tan Yun behind her and said coldly, “No photos, please.”
A moment ago, everyone had been enchanted by her gentle smile, mistaking her for a sweet beauty. Now, faced with her icy glare, they instinctively lowered their phones.
Yun Bo carried the basket downstairs and placed it with the groceries they’d already picked out. Tan Yun pulled out her phone to scan for payment, but Yun Bo swiftly opened the camera instead. “It’s rare for us to shop together. Let’s take a photo to remember this.”
She handed her phone to the cashier, and before Tan Yun could react, Yun Bo had already wrapped an arm around her shoulders for the picture. By the time she processed what happened, the payment was complete.
“Why did you pay?” Tan Yun clutched her phone, watching as Yun Bo packed the items into shopping bags. She moved to grab them herself.
Yun Bo hoisted the bags up first. “These are my purchases.”
At this, Tan Yun frowned. “But you’re coming to my place for dinner! It’s not right for you to buy everything!”
“Then do you think it’s better if I show up empty-handed?”
“What’s the problem? We’re neighbors,” Tan Yun naturally saw no issue and would be delighted if she came over for meals every day.
Yun Bo paused, her finger brushing against Tan Yun’s nose bridge. “Actually, I just don’t want you to go through any trouble.”
At this, Tan Yun couldn’t find a reason to argue and asked softly, “Why are you so good to me?”
“Hmm?” Yun Bo didn’t quite catch her words and tilted her head. “Remember to send me a copy of that photo later.”
“Okay…” Tan Yun nodded, regretting that she hadn’t smiled more beautifully earlier.
Soon, the two arrived downstairs. Yun Bo’s phone vibrated, and when she saw “Youyou” on the screen, she immediately hung up.
Today was the official day to meet her future mother-in-law—no distractions allowed.
Tan Yun also picked up her phone, tapping the screen. “Um, I don’t have your number yet.”
“Xiao Yun doesn’t have my number? But I have yours!” She waved her phone smugly.
Tan Yun caught sight of the first pinned contact on her screen: “Yun Qing.”
What did “Yun Qing” mean?
A pet name?
Tan Yun felt she shouldn’t overthink it—the more she did, the more misunderstandings would arise.
She dialed the number.
The screen’s glow reflected the smile on Yun Bo’s face, her excitement unprecedented. “This is actually the first time I’ve gotten through to you.”
She still remembered the first time she got this number—she had been so thrilled she couldn’t sleep all night, eagerly waiting to hear that familiar voice. Only later did she realize she had to be the one to call to hear it.
Of course, she had tried calling before.
But it had never connected.
“You’ve called me before?”
“Yes.” Many times.
“I’m sorry I never answered.”
There had been one desperate night when she called over twenty times, only to be marked as spam and blocked by Tan Yun.
“Alright, let’s go. Time for dinner.” Yun Bo lifted the shopping bags in her hands—they were indeed heavy, leaving red marks on her palms.
Tan Yun felt a pang of guilt, but they were already at the door.
When the doorbell rang, Tan Mu appeared, beaming. But upon seeing Yun Bo carrying all the bags alone, she scolded, “You silly girl, how could you let a guest carry so much?”
“Auntie, these aren’t heavy at all. I can manage,” Yun Bo said, handing over the skincare products she had bought—masks, creams, and lotions. “I saw these at the supermarket and thought they’d suit you. I hope you don’t mind.”
“How could I mind? Look how much you’ve brought!” Tan Mu laughed, stepping aside to let them in. She fetched new slippers from the cabinet. “Come in, don’t just stand there.”
Yun Bo had been here several times before, always when Tan Yun wasn’t around. But today, she was here to formally propose.
After bringing the groceries to the kitchen, she said politely, “I’ll be troubling you for dinner tonight, Auntie.”
“Trouble? Nonsense! You’re welcome to join us anytime as neighbors.” Tan Mu grinned, clearly delighted with her “daughter-in-law.”
Tan Yun leaned close to her mother and whispered, “She bought everything. I didn’t spend a cent.”
