What's Wrong with Spoiling You? [Entertainment Industry] - Chapter 26
Yun Bo didn’t return home but instead turned toward the police station. The matter with Yang Dehai had to be resolved—she couldn’t allow him to threaten Tan Yun repeatedly.
Before going, she didn’t forget to call Youyou. No matter what, those photos couldn’t be leaked. Of course, she was thinking from the standpoint of protecting Tan Yun.
Meanwhile, after picking up the sample garments at the company, Cheng Xiaoai accompanied Tan Yun to the master’s home to prepare for the embroidery work.
But Tan Yun never expected that she would run into the last person she wanted to see there.
Cheng Xiaoai was also stunned. She had just mentioned how that scumbag woman had changed careers, but she never imagined she’d switched to embroidery.
The scumbag woman acted as if nothing was wrong, quickly regaining her composure before inviting them inside. “I didn’t expect to run into the two of you here. How have you been?”
Cheng Xiaoai squeezed Tan Yun’s hand and said, “Better than you.”
Tan Yun only faltered for a moment before lifting her head to look at her former senior. “Senior, long time no see.”
“Yes, it’s been a while.” Mi Nuan smiled faintly, momentarily lost in thought. It seemed as though something about this junior she had once deceived had changed—she seemed more confident now…
She composed herself and made small talk. “I still remember how you used to follow me around like a little sister who needed looking after.”
Tan Yun looked calmly at this plain-faced senior, flashes of past betrayals flickering through her mind before being quickly overshadowed by Yun Bo’s image. She curved her lips into a smile. “Then shouldn’t I thank you?”
Mi Nuan caught the sarcasm in her tone and replied, “No need for thanks. So, you’re the ones who wanted my master’s embroidery work?”
Tan Yun gave a quiet “Mm.” Had she known Mi Nuan was the embroidery master’s apprentice beforehand, she might have chosen a different master.
But not anymore. She realized now that the real her was braver than the version she had imagined.
Just as the three of them exchanged unfriendly words, a middle-aged woman in a sapphire-blue qipao, her hair elegantly coiled, descended the stairs.
Tan Yun stepped past Gu Yuan and greeted her respectfully. “Hello, I’m Tan Yun. We spoke before about the embroidery work. Today, we’ve brought the sample garments for you to review.”
Zhou Huixiu had always held a deep fondness for qipaos. The reason she agreed to Tan Yun’s request was simple—she admired her designs.
With a gentle smile, she said, “Your designs are quite unique. I like them very much. Nuan Nuan, didn’t you study design before too?”
Mi Nuan’s face naturally slipped into an ingratiating smile. “Yes, I studied design before. These two were actually my juniors!”
Cheng Xiaoai couldn’t stand her sycophantic expression. “Senior, then why did you suddenly switch careers?”
Mi Nuan put on a regretful look. “I’ve always loved embroidery. Studying design was just preparation for it. Now that I’ve apprenticed under my master, I can focus entirely on embroidery.”
Tan Yun glanced at Cheng Xiaoai, signaling for her to get this scumbag out of here.
Cheng Xiaoai caught the hint. “Since you’ve only just started learning and lack professional knowledge, you shouldn’t interfere with your master’s work.”
Originally, Mi Nuan also wanted to take a look at the clothes she had designed, but since Cheng Xiaoai had already spoken to this extent, she first glanced at Zhou Huixiu’s expression. Seeing that she showed no reaction, Mi Nuan replied, “Why, junior, are you unwilling to let me see your progress?”
Tan Yun looked back at her and said, “There’s no need. There’s nothing worth showing you, nor anything that could help you improve.”
Mi Nuan’s smile instantly froze. The meaning behind those words couldn’t have been clearer. “Junior, the way you’re talking makes it sound like I—”
“Mi Nuan, step outside for a moment,” Zhou Huixiu interrupted her.
Of course, she wasn’t foolish. If the relationship between these three had truly been as close as her disciple claimed, her two guests wouldn’t be so guarded.
Mi Nuan was adept at reading the room. Since her master had spoken, staying would only be an eyesore. “Then I’ll leave you to it, Master. I’ll take a walk outside,” she said.
After Mi Nuan left, Tan Yun took the sample garment from her bag and unfolded it to show Zhou Huixiu the cut.
Zhou Huixiu’s eyes sparkled, seemingly dazzled, as she caressed the pipa buttons on the qipao with admiration. “I’d love to know what inspired you to design such a beautiful piece.”
“A person I love,” Tan Yun replied, her lips curling into an enviable smile.
Zhou Huixiu laid the sample on the embroidery frame and said, “Then she must be a wonderful person.”
“Yes, she is. This dress was made for her,” Tan Yun said proudly, showing her the designed embroidery patterns.
Zhou Huixiu paused slightly, surprised to hear she was referring to a woman. She looked up at Tan Yun’s love-filled eyes and said, “She must be extraordinarily beautiful.”
Tan Yun nearly launched into endless praises about Yun Bo but restrained herself. Instead, she pointed to the waist of the qipao. “Here, I’d like a peony—the same kind as on the costumes from The Peony Pavilion. I’ve sketched it on the design. And for the slit here, I’d like to add some petals if possible.”
Zhou Huixiu hadn’t expected her to notice even these details. Nodding, she replied, “That’s a brilliant idea. I didn’t realize you were so passionate about Kunqu opera.”
“Absolutely. The lyrics are exquisite,” Tan Yun said, tracing her fingers from the waist up to the chest. “But here, I envision jasmine branches winding up, with a few small blossoms.”
Her description was abstract and complex, yet the design sketches, though intricate, appeared elegant and understated. It was clear the wearer must be someone serene and refined.
Zhou Huixiu already knew which stitching techniques would best capture the qipao’s essence. “Come back in three days to pick it up. It’ll be ready in time for your competition.”
Relieved, Tan Yun thought for a moment and said, “Then I’ll trouble you, Master.”
Zhou Huixiu checked the time. “It’s getting late. The kitchen has already started preparing.”
Her words implied an invitation to stay for dinner. Tan Yun had heard that Zhou Huixiu rarely entertained guests at home—aside from her beloved disciple, who had dined there once or twice, no one else had been granted the privilege.
This was a rare opportunity, and sharing a meal could bring her many future advantages. But all Tan Yun wanted was to have dinner with Yun Bo. Politely declining, she said, “Thank you for your generosity, Master, but I’ve already made plans with someone.”
Zhou Huixiu was also being turned down for the first time. Seeing the blissful smile on her face, she could guess who she had a date with and said with a smile, “A beauty’s invitation is indeed something one must accept.”
Tan Yun couldn’t bear to give up this opportunity and said, “Teacher shares the same taste as the beauty. If you don’t mind, I’d like to design a qipao that suits you.”
Zhou Huixiu had been worrying about how to bring this up with her. “That’s very thoughtful of you.”
