What's Wrong with Spoiling You? [Entertainment Industry] - Chapter 46
Alright, here we go again with the early morning dog abuse.
Cheng Xiaoai was utterly disdainful of this behavior.
—Are you even awake yet?
Tan Yun looked at the red marks on her pinched thigh, certain that she was indeed awake.
—It really feels like she’s cheating.
Would Cheng Xiaoai believe that? Not a chance in hell.
—The other day when you two got a room, you said the beauty seemed to have disappeared, and the next second you claimed she hadn’t left.
—I saw a woman drive over to pick her up for work. Photo
Cheng Xiaoai zoomed in on the photo again and again. Well, damn, it really did look like… cheating?
But why did that woman look so familiar?
—Stay in the room and wait for me. I’m coming over right now.
Tan Yun hid behind the curtains, watching as the two got into the car. Her heart was a mess of panic and frustration—she wanted nothing more than to rush down there, grab that woman by the hair, and beat the hell out of her.
Thirty seconds later.
—They drove off.
Cheng Xiaoai had no idea how to explain this to her. She wanted to call Yun Bo to confirm, but if she really was cheating… After some thought, she settled on a plan.
—Wait for me. Don’t act rashly—we don’t want to tip them off.
Watching the car leave, Tan Yun was anything but calm. She yanked clothes out of the closet and threw them on.
Cheng Xiaoai hastily brushed her hair and teeth, then rushed over to knock on the door.
The moment it opened, she saw Tan Yun looking like she was ready to tear the other woman apart with her bare hands.
Cheng Xiaoai grabbed her. “Calm down first. We need evidence.”
“What kind of evidence?” Tan Yun was on the verge of breaking down. “That same woman dropped her off last night too.”
“It was dark out. Are you sure?” Cheng Xiaoai didn’t know how to explain this. Maybe it was just her manager giving her a ride home.
“I’m sure. The hotel lights were on, and most importantly, that woman was carrying her bag.” So considerate. Too considerate.
Cheng Xiaoai realized this might not be so simple. “Did you see how Yun Bo acted toward her?”
“Yun Bo had her back to me, so I couldn’t tell. But that woman kept smiling.” Tan Yun’s voice was thick with misery, her heart so full of hurt she could barely hold back tears. Her thoughts spiraled. “Do you think… she won’t touch me because of this?”
“Stop overthinking it.” Cheng Xiaoai had been confident about their relationship, but now she wasn’t so sure. “That’s got nothing to do with it.”
“Then why—”
“Are you stupid?” Cheng Xiaoai blurted out the first excuse she could think of. “If she touched you now, wouldn’t it be a bloodbath?”
That seemed to calm Tan Yun down a little, but the doubt lingered. “She’s so amazing. There must be tons of people who like her.”
Cheng Xiaoai couldn’t stand hearing this. “What, are you missing an arm or a leg? Why do you always put yourself down like this?”
Tan Yun didn’t know what was wrong with her. Maybe the deeper she fell, the less secure she felt. “She’s so beautiful, and her career is so impressive…”
“Enough. If she didn’t like you, why would she have someone go after Gu Yuan?” Cheng Xiaoai broke it down for her. “And if she really didn’t care, why would she deliberately move in across from you?”
This Tan Yun really didn’t know if she was doing it on purpose and asked somewhat surprised, “How did you know she moved here intentionally?”
Cheng Xiaoai hadn’t expected to let it slip so easily and evaded, “It’s obvious at a glance. The area where you live isn’t convenient transportation-wise. She drives a luxury car yet chooses to live across from you instead of some mansion—doesn’t that scream intentional?”
Tan Yun finally had an epiphany. “Hearing you say that puts me at ease. Maybe they’re just colleagues. I might have overthought it.”
“That’s the right way to think. If you’re still unsure, just ask her when she gets back.”
“I won’t ask.” Tan Yun knew better than to bring this up. Their relationship was still new, and voicing such suspicions would only hurt her feelings.
“Alright, as long as you understand.” Cheng Xiaoai ruffled her own hair. “Sooner or later, the two of you are going to be the death of me.”
“Sorry, Xiaoai.” Tan Yun felt a bit embarrassed. “What do you want to eat? My treat.”
“Is this something that can be settled with just one meal?” Cheng Xiaoai held up two fingers, then shook her head. “You owe me three meals.”
“Deal!”
……
After freshening up in their room, they headed downstairs for dinner.
In the lobby, they spotted a strangely dressed man, and Tan Yun couldn’t help but take a second look.
The man wore a black tracksuit and a baseball cap pulled low over his face. His silhouette seemed familiar, and Tan Yun joked, “Xiaoai, do you think this oddly dressed guy might be some celebrity?”
Cheng Xiaoai stared at him for a moment. Noticing her gaze, the man turned his back to them.
“I doubt he’s a celebrity. Do you think Gu Yuan sent him?”
Tan Yun thought it was possible. After all, Yun Bo had sent people to disfigure her face. If Gu Yuan didn’t retaliate in some way, it wouldn’t be like her.
“What should we do then?”
“Wait here. I’ll go eavesdrop.”
“I’ll come with you. Gu Yuan wouldn’t just come after me alone.” Tan Yun took her hand, and they approached the front desk together, phones in hand ready to call the police if the man turned violent.
The man quickly noticed them, covered his face, and hurried outside.
Cheng Xiaoai grew increasingly suspicious. “What did that guest just come here for?”
The receptionist replied, “He was asking about guest information, but we have policies against disclosing that.”
“Was he asking about Room 5202?”
The receptionist shook her head. “No.”
Cheng Xiaoai sighed in relief. “Just a false alarm then.”
Tan Yun still had a bad feeling. “I don’t think his motives were that innocent.”
“Don’t overthink it. You’re probably just stressed.”
“Maybe.”
After they left, the man returned and continued questioning the front desk, even presenting his ID to book a room.
……
Yun Bo had gone to the set early, while Ning Xuan carried the script she’d been given earlier, pretending to rehearse lines among some new actors.
Youyou found her expression somewhat comical and remarked, “Do you think she’ll go crazy with anger when she finds out we never actually gave her that role?”
Yun Bo twisted open a bottle of mineral water, looking completely indifferent. “She has only herself to blame for not being resilient enough.”
“This morning I heard that last night, that Mr. Li threw a tantrum in the hotel.”
“Oh?” Yun Bo perked up with interest.
Youyou continued, “That Mr. Li is one of our major sponsors here. Rumor has it he’s slept with quite a few minor celebrities, and he even flips through names like an ancient emperor choosing concubines.”
Last night, Mr. Li had picked Ning Xuan, but to his fury, she didn’t show up. Previously, he had secured a leading role for her, but now that she was acting up, he was far from pleased.
The director had already arranged today’s shoot—a rain scene.
Yun Bo, Ning Xuan, and the rookie male lead each took their designated positions as artificial rain began pouring down.
The first take was cut immediately, which Yun Bo had expected. Youyou quickly handed her a towel and suggested, “Should we use a stunt double for the next take?”
She glanced at the intensity of the rain and then at the rookie still struggling to get into character, estimating that this scene wouldn’t pass without at least three retakes.
“Use a double for the next take.”
Just as she predicted, the second take also failed.
Ning Xuan had been in a decent mood earlier, but after getting drenched twice, her enthusiasm had completely evaporated. She scowled and pointed at her stunt double. “You go up next.”
The rookie stood in the rain three more times before Yun Bo, watching from the side, finally saw him grasp the character’s emotions and had the double step down.
This time, the director was finally satisfied and berated the rookie, “Can’t you do your homework properly? At least try to understand the character’s emotions and expressions! How are we supposed to shoot like this? Every single scene of yours takes at least seven or eight retakes!”
Yun Bo was also fed up. The rookie had indeed gone too far, thinking acting was easy. When she first started, she had done extensive research to transition from being a mere performer to a true actor, even spending days out in the rain without complaint.
She took the hairdryer from Youyou and said, “Check my phone for any messages.”
Youyou unlocked her phone and scrolled through all her social apps before finding a few unread texts. After reading one, she hesitated, unsure how to respond.
“Read it!” Yun Bo glanced at her still-frozen assistant.
“This isn’t really appropriate to read aloud!” Youyou hesitated. “The content is a bit… not suitable for minors…”
“Hmm?” Yun Bo couldn’t imagine what kind of inappropriate message Tan Yun would send her.
“Alright, I’ll read it!” Youyou cleared her throat and enunciated each word slowly: “Why won’t you sleep with me?”
“What?” Yun Bo freed one hand. “Let me see that.”
—Is it because my chest isn’t big enough, or my butt not round and perky enough?
—If you don’t want to sleep with me, I can sleep with you instead.
—I really want to have a passionate, earth-shattering love-making session with you.
Meanwhile, Cheng Xiaoai lightly tapped her screen, deleting the entire chat history cleanly.
Cheng Xiaoai: “Stop showing off your love every day!”
