What's Wrong with Spoiling You? [Entertainment Industry] - Chapter 60
For safety, Tan Yun drove the car smoothly, stretching what should have been a half-hour journey into over an hour.
Since Yun Bo had the first scene of the day, everyone on set had been waiting for a while. When she didn’t show up, they had to send Youyou to wait for her at the entrance of the film studio.
Youyou had already posted the video yesterday, and now everyone was speculating about the relationship between the two of them. Public opinion mostly leaned in Yun Bo’s favor.
But given Ning Xuan’s temperament, she wouldn’t miss this opportunity to stir up trouble. If she didn’t take advantage of this chance, she might never have another shot at turning things around.
As soon as Tan Yun parked the car, Youyou hurried over and said, “Duanduan, let’s go get your makeup done. Everyone’s waiting for you now.”
After that nap, Yun Bo seemed much more energetic than before. “Let’s go,” she said, stepping out of the car.
At this point, Tan Yun’s anxiety flared up again. She whispered, “What if there are paparazzi or reporters? Would it affect you if they took photos?”
Yun Bo smiled. “They’re everywhere out here. How do you plan to avoid them?”
Tan Yun swallowed hard. “Should I just get out like this?”
Yun Bo took her hand. “With me here, what are you afraid of?”
Hearing this, the fear in her heart melted away. “Then I’ll walk you inside and leave.”
Youyou watched as both of them stepped out of the car together. Though she thought Yun Bo was being reckless, she didn’t say anything.
It was Tan Yun’s first time inside a film studio. Seeing all the extras in various costumes moving about felt like stepping into another world. Her palms grew clammy with sweat.
“Still nervous?” Yun Bo noticed her tension.
Tan Yun nodded, feeling both scared and curious. “How do you usually film scenes here?”
“Want to watch?” Yun Bo asked.
Tan Yun wanted to say yes, but for appearances’ sake, she shook her head, not wanting to cause any more trouble.
The makeup artist had been waiting in the dressing room for a while. As soon as Yun Bo arrived, she quickly ushered her to the chair. Glancing at Tan Yun, she quickly guessed her identity and praised, “This must be Miss Tan. You’re so beautiful. Duanduan has great taste.”
Though Yun Bo and Tan Yun’s relationship was public online, no one had dared to openly congratulate them yet. Yun Bo chuckled. “She’s just a bit timid.”
Inside the makeup room, Tan Yun felt completely out of place, looking around restlessly for a chance to say she should leave.
The reason Yun Bo had asked her to drive was simple—she wanted to bring her here.
Back when she was alone, she often saw family members of other actors visiting the set. She had always thought that if she ever reunited with Tan Yun, she would bring her here too.
She held Tan Yun’s hand tightly, her eyes betraying a hint of sorrow. “You’re leaving tomorrow, and I still have over a week of filming here. Can’t you stay with me a little longer?”
Her words dripped with such pitifulness that no one in the makeup room had ever seen her like this before. Usually cold and distant, unwilling to engage with anyone, who would have guessed she could also show such tenderness?
Although there weren’t many people in the dressing room, everyone’s eyes were fixed on Tan Yun, as if silently urging her to just agree already!
Tan Yun naturally wanted to stay and accompany her, but she feared someone might exploit this situation to stir up trouble and bring her negative consequences.
Yun Bo added, “Don’t worry, no one can touch me right now.”
As soon as the words fell, another voice rang out in the dressing room, “Yun Duan, you’re really something, bringing your little lover to the set.”
The voice was unmistakable. The makeup artists, who had been all smiles moments ago, immediately fell silent, not daring to utter another word.
Yun Bo gave her a cold stare, as if asking, “Do you have anything else to say?”
Tan Yun followed her gaze and recognized the celebrity—she was quite popular recently, but Tan Yun hadn’t expected her to be so arrogant.
Ning Xuan, dressed in a pink cheongsam, bore none of the serenity from her promotional videos. “Yun Duan, don’t go too far. You know perfectly well whether I actually laid a hand on anyone in that video!”
Yun Duan merely glanced at her before turning back to the makeup artist holding a powder puff. “Continue with your work,” she said, completely dismissing her.
Suppressing her fury, Ning Xuan spat out, “Didn’t I help a lot with Gu Yuan’s matter? Is this how you repay me—kicking down the ladder? Isn’t that just unethical?”
“Turn off your recorder before you speak to me,” Yun Bo retorted, seeing right through her scheme.
Ning Xuan hadn’t expected to be caught. Her face flushed red and pale in turns, leaving her speechless.
Tan Yun inched closer to Yun Bo, unnerved by the intensity of her glare.
“Just say it outright. What will it take for you to let me go?” Ning Xuan had no other options left. She genuinely wanted to stay relevant, not remain mired in scandal. Now, not only was her company refusing to cast her in any productions, but even directors were losing patience, yelling at her without restraint.
It was as if she had plummeted from the heavens overnight. Even Mr. Li had made it clear in industry circles that anyone who dared support her would be opposing him.
Ning Xuan had resorted to recording the conversation as a last-ditch effort to threaten Yun Bo into giving her a chance, never imagining she’d be exposed instantly.
“What does that have to do with you?” Yun Bo sneered. “Did you really think all those judges listened to you?”
Wasn’t that the case? Back then, Ning Xuan had called each of them personally to ensure their compliance. “If it weren’t for me, do you think this woman beside you would be where she is today?”
Tan Yun felt a pang of discomfort at those words. What did she mean by “without her, there’d be no Tan Yun today”?
“If it weren’t for you and Gu Yuan, I wouldn’t have withdrawn from the competition.”
Ning Xuan wasn’t very familiar with her and had always assumed she’d climbed into Yun Bo’s bed, looking down on her with disdain. “Hah, did you really believe those judges sided with you because of your talent?”
Initially, Tan Yun had thought so, but now she knew there had to be some hidden rules at play.
Yun Bo answered for her, “Her talent is undeniable. Did you honestly think those judges helped her just because of your phone calls?”
She gave a cold laugh and continued, “Those judges aren’t fools. They know this competition is being live-streamed, and both the organizers and sponsors are taking this incident very seriously. As long as they aren’t blind, they’ll know who the plagiarist is. If they choose to keep helping Gu Yuan, the competition won’t hesitate to kick them out.”
Ning Xuan looked as if struck by lightning. “Then why did you still make me handle this matter?”
“I just wanted you to taste the feeling of being isolated and helpless.” Even if she intervened to help Gu Yuan, Yun Bo could resolve the matter cleanly. She simply wanted Gu Yuan to experience the bitterness of being abandoned by family and friends.
“You!” Ning Xuan’s lips trembled with rage, her voice breaking. “How can you be so vicious?”
“Vicious?” Yun Bo smirked disdainfully. “I’m just giving her a taste of her own medicine!”
Ning Xuan was devastated. Because she hadn’t helped Gu Yuan, her family berated her harshly, and Gu Yuan’s family cut ties with them. She had acted for justice, but she never expected this outcome.
She rushed to the dressing table in three strides, grabbed something, and hurled it at Yun Bo.
Yun Bo had anticipated this move. She kicked the nearest chair toward Ning Xuan, hitting her squarely on the knee.
Ning Xuan shrieked and fell to the ground, the objects in her hand scattering everywhere.
Seeing Tan Yun’s shocked expression, Yun Bo quickly took her hand. “What’s wrong? Are you scared?”
“N-no!” Tan Yun was just startled by her speed. She had already shut her eyes in fear, never expecting Ning Xuan to be the one struck.
Ning Xuan scrambled up from the floor, disheveled and desperate. “Yun Duan, you’ll get your karma!” she screamed.
She lunged forward again but was stopped by her manager, who had just arrived. “Ning Xuan, what are you doing?”
Yun Bo pressed her lips, freshly coated with lipstick. “Sister Li, isn’t your artist a bit too unruly? If this video gets out, how embarrassing would that be? After all, you’re one of the top managers in the industry.”
She glanced meaningfully at Youyou, who stood nearby holding her phone.
Sister Li managed several big stars and had once placed high hopes on Ning Xuan—now, she was only disappointed. Forcing a smile, she said, “Duanduan, we’re all in this industry together. Be merciful where you can—there’ll be plenty of chances to collaborate in the future.”
Yun Bo had no interest in arguing. “Actually, I wanted to discuss this with you. I used to respect you, but I don’t understand why you’ve repeatedly allowed her to provoke me.”
Sister Li glared at Ning Xuan. “There must be some misunderstanding. I’ll discipline her properly when we get back.”
“Oh?” Yun Bo sneered. “Then start from the basics. Teach her how to be a decent person. And remember to send someone to clean up this mess—it’s filthy!”
Sister Li swallowed her anger and forced another smile. “Of course, of course.”
She turned to Ning Xuan, who was still seething. “Aren’t you ashamed enough? Get out with me now!”
Only after they left did Yun Bo soften her expression and ask Tan Yun, “Did I scare you? I’m not usually like this.”
“Hmm…” Tan Yun didn’t think so.
