What's Wrong with Spoiling You? [Entertainment Industry] - Chapter 7
Tan Yun felt like she was being tormented by that key, so much so that she wished she could thread it onto a red string and wear it around her neck.
When she got to the office, she slumped listlessly over her desk, idly poking at the key with her finger.
Cheng Xiaoai, seeing her despondent state, assumed it was due to the design draft issue. She patted Tan Yun’s shoulder consolingly and said, “How about we both take a couple of days off and go out to find some inspiration?”
Tan Yun wanted to refuse. The beauty next door had left only a key behind and vanished without a trace. She wanted to wait for the beauty to return and ask what she meant by it.
Cheng Xiaoai sighed and sat on her desk. “Xiao Yun, are you really going to let that bitch Gu Yuan win? Just watch her flaunt your design draft over your head and win another award to spite you?”
Tan Yun could still tell what was more important. She flicked the key on the table weakly and asked, “Xiaoai, do you have a red string?”
“Huh?” Cheng Xiaoai had been discussing serious matters and didn’t understand the sudden question. “What do you need a string for?”
Tan Yun couldn’t explain outright. Just the thought of being away from the beauty for a few days made her feel like she couldn’t breathe. “Just tell me if you have one or not!”
Cheng Xiaoai sighed and turned to look for one. When she found the red string, she slapped it onto the table. “Here. Think carefully. If you agree, I’ll go apply for leave right away, and we can set off tomorrow.”
“Fine, let’s do it.” At this point, she had no choice but to go out for a change of scenery. Otherwise, she’d have no inspiration at all, and watching Gu Yuan achieve success would surely drive her mad.
So, she picked up the key, kissed it, threaded it onto the string, and hung it around her neck.
Seeing her agree, Cheng Xiaoai could only try this last resort. “I’ll go submit the application now.”
“Okay, thank you.” To Tan Yun, Cheng Xiaoai was now the only friend she could trust. Back when she was close to Gu Yuan, Cheng Xiaoai had warned her, but… well.
Cheng Xiaoai was quick to leave and quick to return. “It’s approved. Clock out now and go pack.”
Tan Yun blinked. “So soon?”
Cheng Xiaoai had always been fast-paced. Besides, wasn’t that higher-up a little sweet on her? That’s why the approval came so quickly. Of course, she wouldn’t tell Tan Yun—it was her little secret.
“Isn’t lacking inspiration urgent enough?”
“Urgent, yeah…” Tan Yun took out the key hanging around her neck and held it in her palm, her eyes full of tenderness.
Cheng Xiaoai sighed inwardly. “Great, she was already dumb, and now she’s gone completely silly.”
Leaning on the desk with one hand, she moved closer to see what was so special about the key. Tan Yun guarded it jealously, refusing to show it. Cheng Xiaoai tilted her head slightly, pretending disinterest, then snatched it from Tan Yun’s hand in a flash. Squinting, she held it up to the light and examined it. “Is this some kind of treasure-unlocking key?”
Tan Yun thought she was right—it was the key to the beauty’s door. She nodded eagerly. “You’re right, it unlocks treasure. Quick, give it back.”
Cheng Xiaoai hummed, dangling the key by the red string and letting it sway in the air. “Is this your next-door beauty’s key?”
Caught off guard, Tan Yun’s face flushed red. She jumped up from her chair to grab it, stammering, “O-of course not!”
“Then why are you in such a hurry?” Her gaze swept over her, finding it highly suspicious.
Tan Yun grew anxious, grabbing her sleeve. “Dear Xiaoai, hurry up and give it to me. Let’s go home and pack our things quickly.”
Cheng Xiaoai clicked her tongue twice, handed the key back to her, and then returned to her office.
With the key back in her hand, Tan Yun bit her lower lip, determined to visit the beauty’s house today to ease the longing she’d feel over the next two days.
