When the Stand-in O Differentiated into an A - Chapter 12
Yu Xiaoxiao was too overbearing. How could she replace her toiletries with new ones without asking?
“So… did you throw away my toothbrush holder too?” Qiao Xi asked carefully.
Yu Xiaoxiao closed her eyes slightly. “Probably. The garbage collectors usually come at 9:30 AM.”
Qiao Xi immediately ran out and sprinted toward the large dumpster outside the Yu family mansion without a second thought. It was fine if the toothpaste, toothbrush, and facial cleanser were thrown away and replaced, but she couldn’t bear to part with her toothbrush holder.
She had made that holder herself as a child using shells she had found at the beach. It wasn’t worth anything, but it had been with her for over a decade. Qiao Xi was sentimental about her old belongings. Even her old clothes that she couldn’t wear anymore, she would mail back to her mother to store. She would never throw them away easily.
A rich miss like Yu Xiaoxiao, who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth, probably wouldn’t understand this feeling. Everything around her could be replaced at any time, even people.
Luckily, Qiao Xi had woken up a little earlier today, so the garbage truck hadn’t come yet. She found her toothbrush holder after rummaging through the dumpster for a bit.
With her precious item found again, Qiao Xi held the frosted shell holder in her arms like a treasure. “That’s great, it wasn’t taken yet!”
After finding the holder, she brought it back. When she got to the entrance of the villa, she saw Yu Xiaoxiao standing by the door frame, wearing her cardigan and looking out at her.
At the same time, Qiao Xi saw Yu Xiaoxiao but immediately lowered her head.
She wasn’t sure if Yu Xiaoxiao would approve of her taking something she had thrown away. After much hesitation, Qiao Xi finally looked up and walked over. She saw Yu Xiaoxiao looking at her with a look of incomprehension, so she quickly explained, “This… this thing has been with me since I was a child, so I can’t throw it away. Can I take it back and put it in the bathroom? It doesn’t take up much space…”
Qiao Xi said in a pleading voice.
Yu Xiaoxiao wrapped her cardigan tighter around herself. “I thought you ran out in such a panic for something else. It was for this.”
Yes, it was for this.
Yu Xiaoxiao probably never had anything she cherished, so she wouldn’t understand this feeling. Qiao Xi suddenly felt a little sorry for Yu Xiaoxiao, but she, who couldn’t even afford to eat two days ago, probably wasn’t in a position to think that way.
“I’m sorry. I only told the cleaning lady to take away all the old things. I didn’t know this was so important to you. You can take it back and put it wherever you want. But from now on, you can’t just run out like this without saying a word.”
When Qiao Xi heard this, she looked up at Yu Xiaoxiao.
At that moment, Yu Xiaoxiao’s image in her heart became tall and kind. The heiress was a good person. Her unpredictable temper was probably a result of being spoiled for too long at home. Yu Xiaoxiao came from a good family and was an only child. Qiao Xi completely understood girls like Yu Xiaoxiao. If she had such a beautiful daughter, she would spoil her to death too.
Qiao Xi nodded and promised Yu Xiaoxiao that she would always tell her where she was going from now on and not run off again.
Yu Xiaoxiao took almost an hour to get ready. She wasn’t just concerned with her makeup; she also cared about whether her clothes were appropriate and if her handbag matched her outfit.
While Yu Xiaoxiao was getting ready, Qiao Xi had to wait. Although she had changed into one of the outfits Yu Xiaoxiao bought her yesterday, she still felt a bit uncomfortable. But throughout the process, she kept telling herself that this was just work. A job with good food, housing, and pretty clothes was a blessing that others wouldn’t get even if they cultivated merit for eight lifetimes. She was already lucky.
While Yu Xiaoxiao was getting dressed, Qiao Xi stayed downstairs and played on her phone. Since her job was to be Yu Xiaoxiao’s stand-in, she inevitably paid attention to Yu Xiaoxiao’s social media. She found out that Yu Xiaoxiao had her own blog, and her account was registered two years ago.
Yu Xiaoxiao had posted over two hundred pieces of content and had over two million followers. Most of them were life vlogs and dance MVs. Qiao Xi watched one of Yu Xiaoxiao’s dance videos and found that she was quite good. Even the comments said she was much better than some of the idols who just went through the motions. Both her fans and those who were just curious urged her to participate in a survival show to debut as a girl group member.
But in December of last year, Yu Xiaoxiao posted a message on her blog: “This childish game ends here.”
After that post, she never updated her blog again.
While idols might post on social media for better exposure, Yu Xiaoxiao made videos just for fun. She danced just for fun, and when she got bored of it last year, she stopped updating her blog.
From Yu Xiaoxiao’s life records, she was a very smart person who picked up things quickly. But her enthusiasm for everything never lasted more than three months. Dancing, vlogging, and posting on her blog were her longest-lasting hobbies.
As Qiao Xi was engrossed in the posts, Yu Xiaoxiao came downstairs, fully dressed. It was almost ten o’clock.
Yu Xiaoxiao called down to her from the stairs. “Honey, I’m ready. Let’s go?”
Qiao Xi quickly turned off her phone and stood up to walk toward Yu Xiaoxiao. Yu Xiaoxiao was wearing a sweater dress and a beige coat. She also had a long, lotus-colored scarf draped around her neck.
As expected, Yu Xiaoxiao was the one who was dressed the warmest today. Although the dress Qiao Xi was wearing had sleeves, she couldn’t find a coat that matched it. If she wore her two-hundred-dollar jacket with this dress, Yu Xiaoxiao would probably get mad.
Although Qiao Xi wasn’t afraid of the cold, she felt awkward.
Yu Xiaoxiao walked down the stairs and looked at her from top to bottom. Then, she took the long scarf off her neck and draped it over Qiao Xi’s shoulders.
The lotus-colored scarf was made of cashmere and was long and wide. The snowflake-shaped tassels at both ends made it look beautiful.
Qiao Xi felt Yu Xiaoxiao’s warmth on the scarf, along with a faint scent of roses. Besides her mother, no one had ever done something so intimate for her. Qiao Xi lowered her head shyly.
