When the Stand-in O Differentiated into an A - Chapter 7
Qiao Xi watched as Yu Xiaoxiao drove away and frowned slightly. “Where’s Uncle Dong? He came with us.”
Yu Xiaoxiao replied, “Don’t worry, he went back ahead of time.”
“So, are we going back now?” Qiao Xi asked.
Yu Xiaoxiao shook her head. “No, our date isn’t over yet.”
With that, Yu Xiaoxiao drove to a shopping mall. When she went inside and swiped a card, a group of people immediately gathered around. “Miss Xiaoxiao, you haven’t been here in a while. What can we get you today?”
Yu Xiaoxiao found a seat, sat down, and pointed to Qiao Xi. “Go find some suitable outfits for her.”
Qiao Xi was a bit stunned but was quickly ushered to the changing room by a few people. One of the sales associates showed Qiao Xi a dress and said with a smile, “Miss, this is the latest summer collection from Prada. There are only five hundred pieces in the world.”
“And this is from Chanel’s early autumn collection. Would you like to try them all on?”
When all these expensive-looking clothes were put in front of her, Qiao Xi finally realized what was happening—Yu Xiaoxiao was taking her shopping. She blinked at Yu Xiaoxiao and pointed at herself. Yu Xiaoxiao nodded, motioning for her to hurry and try on the clothes.
Since Yu Xiaoxiao was buying her clothes, Qiao Xi decided it was best to go along with it.
Any outfit that fit Qiao Xi in the dressing room, Yu Xiaoxiao bought. By the time it was dark, Qiao Xi was exhausted from trying on clothes. She felt like she had tried on enough, so she pleaded with Yu Xiaoxiao, “Xiaoxiao, I think this is enough. Let’s stop here for today and go home?”
While Qiao Xi was trying on clothes, Yu Xiaoxiao wasn’t idle. The staff brought her coffee and desserts, and since she was bored, she even got a manicure.
When she heard Qiao Xi, she yawned, stretched, and turned to look at her.
Qiao Xi was wearing a white, sheer dress. Other than a brooch design on the collar, the dress was a simple white. The fabric shimmered as she moved, like she was walking in moonlight.
Qiao Xi remembered the sales associate telling her that the dress was called “White Moonlight.”
When Yu Xiaoxiao saw Qiao Xi in that dress, she couldn’t take her eyes off her. Qiao Xi stood in front of Yu Xiaoxiao, shifting her weight awkwardly. Seeing Yu Xiaoxiao stare for so long, she shyly asked, “Does it… not look good?”
Yu Xiaoxiao came out of her daze and shook her head. “No… it’s very beautiful. It suits you perfectly.”
Qiao Xi lowered her head shyly. After all, the person who was complimenting her was the heiress Yu Xiaoxiao, who was even more beautiful than a celebrity. A compliment from such a beauty made Qiao Xi ten times happier than when others called her cute.
But… this dress was really expensive. It seemed to be a limited edition couture piece, and this dress alone was more expensive than all the other clothes she had tried on combined. She looked up at Yu Xiaoxiao.
Yu Xiaoxiao stood up lazily.
Is she really buying me clothes this expensive? Before Qiao Xi could say anything, Yu Xiaoxiao handed a black card to the cashier. “Wrap up all the clothes she tried on today.”
Qiao Xi was once again speechless, stunned by the heiress’s extravagance.
Yu Xiaoxiao liked the white dress so much on Qiao Xi that she didn’t have her change out of it when they left.
Qiao Xi didn’t say a word as she followed Yu Xiaoxiao out, because she didn’t know what to say. Yu Xiaoxiao had spent so much money on her clothes today. Would the cost of these clothes be deducted from her salary?
What if Yu Xiaoxiao changed her mind? The salary on the contract wasn’t enough to pay for all these clothes even if she sold herself!
Qiao Xi wanted to ask Yu Xiaoxiao if the clothes were a gift, but she could see that Yu Xiaoxiao was in a good mood. If she asked now, she would surely ruin Yu Xiaoxiao’s day.
To avoid upsetting Yu Xiaoxiao, Qiao Xi chose to remain silent.
But this was the first time Qiao Xi had ever worn such expensive clothes. She played with the sheer fabric of the dress, a smile on her face.
What girl doesn’t like pretty clothes? But Qiao Xi had been a tomboy as a child, and any pretty dress she wore would come back in tatters. After that, her school uniform became her everyday wear in middle school, and in high school, she didn’t have the time or energy to buy new clothes. Her closet only had a few pajamas and casual clothes.
It had been a long time since she had tried on so many clothes, and Yu Xiaoxiao had bought every single one she tried on today.
For the first time, Qiao Xi felt that “being a stand-in for a rich sister is great.”
…
When Yu Xiaoxiao and Qiao Xi returned to the villa, Butler Dong came out to greet them. Qiao Xi, in her new dress, bounced happily through the front door. But Butler Dong stopped her at the entrance.
Qiao Xi smiled and asked, “Uncle Dong, is something wrong?”
Butler Dong pushed up his glasses and held out the stand-in contract he had signed with Qiao Xi. “I’m very sorry, Miss Qiao Xi, but you have been fired.”
Qiao Xi’s bright smile froze on her face. She felt like she had just been struck by lightning. She stood there stunned for a long time, then her lips twitched slightly. “Unc… Uncle Dong, you’re not kidding, are you?”
This had to be a joke, right? She had just experienced one day of a comfortable life with food and lodging. This was too cruel!
Butler Dong continued, “I’m very sorry, but since you did not pass the three-day trial, we have the right to fire you. This was stated in the contract. But don’t worry, we will pay you for today’s work.”
Upon hearing this, Qiao Xi was on the verge of tears. Her eyes immediately welled up.
How could this be? Yu Xiaoxiao was just being so nice to her. Why would she suddenly do this?
“I’m sorry, please pack your things…” Before he could finish, Yu Xiaoxiao’s voice came from outside, “Pack your things and come to my room.”
Qiao Xi’s head snapped up. She saw Yu Xiaoxiao and quickly ran to her, looking pitiful with her dress. “Xiaoxiao, oh no… are you really firing me?”
Yu Xiaoxiao saw Qiao Xi’s tears streaming down her face like a broken dam. She gave Butler Dong a helpless look.
This was her fault. She had planned to fire Qiao Xi this afternoon, but she had changed her mind. She just hadn’t told Butler Dong to cancel the order she gave him this afternoon.
