When the Stand-in O Differentiated into an A - Chapter 9
Yu Xiaoxiao saw Qiao Xi smiling at her and put down her fork. “What’s wrong? Is there something on my face?”
Qiao Xi shook her head. “No, no, I just think you’re cute when you eat.”
When Yu Xiaoxiao heard this, she looked down, her expression instantly sour. Qiao Xi noticed the subtle change and immediately fell silent.
What was going on? Did I say something wrong again to upset her?
Not long after, Yu Xiaoxiao looked up at Qiao Xi with a fierce expression. “You’re not allowed to say I’m ‘cute’ ever again, and don’t even use that word. I hate it when people say that about me!”
But… it was a compliment. Why would she hate it?
Qiao Xi didn’t understand the reason, but since it was Yu Xiaoxiao’s order, she could only remember it. Qiao Xi nodded. “Okay, I got it.”
After that, Qiao Xi dejectedly lowered her head and started eating the salad. There was sesame sauce for the salad, but Yu Xiaoxiao liked to eat her vegetables plain, and Qiao Xi didn’t. She disliked the bitter taste of the leaves. While some vegetables were sweet, eating only leaves wouldn’t fill her up.
After finishing her salad, Yu Xiaoxiao put down her fork and watched Qiao Xi quietly with her chin in her hands.
Qiao Xi felt like she was being watched. Since she didn’t like today’s dinner, she quickly finished the salad in her bowl.
Yu Xiaoxiao saw that Qiao Xi had finished the salad without leaving a single leaf and asked, “Are you full?”
Qiao Xi’s head shot up. Is she asking if I’m full so she can have the chef make me something else?
Qiao Xi’s eyes sparkled. But Yu Xiaoxiao’s next sentence poured cold water on her excitement. “If you’re full, let’s go upstairs.”
Qiao Xi’s shoulders slumped like a deflated balloon. What if she didn’t eat her fill and woke up hungry in the middle of the night? Then she wouldn’t be able to sleep until morning.
Qiao Xi stood there, stunned for a moment. She thought about what Yu Xiaoxiao had just asked. Yu Xiaoxiao asked her if she was full first, so if she said she wasn’t, Yu Xiaoxiao shouldn’t get angry, right?
Yu Xiaoxiao saw Qiao Xi squirming, as if she had something she couldn’t say, and asked, “Hmm? What’s wrong?”
When Qiao Xi heard Yu Xiaoxiao’s question, she said in a small, embarrassed voice, “Um… I’m actually not full yet.”
But she only dared to say that much. She didn’t dare ask Yu Xiaoxiao to have someone make her something else. She would be thrilled if Yu Xiaoxiao just told her to go to the fridge and find something.
Yu Xiaoxiao’s brow furrowed at Qiao Xi’s words. Although Qiao Xi was looking down, her eyes were still watching Yu Xiaoxiao. When she saw Yu Xiaoxiao’s expression, she knew she had upset her again.
What do I do? What do I do?
Qiao Xi felt dizzy. She tried to figure out how to placate Yu Xiaoxiao. Should she apologize first? It didn’t matter. She’d apologize and deal with the consequences later.
Just as she was about to apologize, Yu Xiaoxiao called out to Butler Dong. “Uncle Dong, have someone make two tuna hand rolls and two crepes.”
Butler Dong quickly replied, “Yes, Miss Xiaoxiao. I’ll get it done right away.”
Yu Xiaoxiao looked at Qiao Xi. “Do you like your crepes sweet or savory?”
Qiao Xi’s eyes widened. Was Yu Xiaoxiao having food made just for her?
She quickly replied, “Either is fine. I’m just happy to have food.”
Qiao Xi actually preferred sweet things. Whenever a dish could be made either sweet or savory, she would always choose sweet. Yu Xiaoxiao didn’t say anything else, leaving the chef to decide between sweet or savory.
Qiao Xi looked at Yu Xiaoxiao and thought she was getting cuter and cuter. Although Yu Xiaoxiao didn’t like it when people said that, it was true.
Soon, the food Yu Xiaoxiao had ordered for Qiao Xi was brought out. It was as if the chef had a telepathic connection with Qiao Xi because the crepe was sweet.
Qiao Xi finished the tuna hand rolls and the sweet crepe, then drank a big glass of soda. She was completely full and beamed with happiness.
The chef was worthy of being a rich family’s cook. Even simple food tasted a hundred times better than what she could buy outside.
As Qiao Xi basked in the happiness of a full stomach, she suddenly felt Yu Xiaoxiao’s gaze getting fiercer.
And then, something important flashed through her mind. That’s right, the stand-in manual said that Yu Xiaoxiao didn’t like her partner eating too much. She and her loved ones always ate until they were 80% full!
When they were at the restaurant today, Yu Xiaoxiao got upset just because Qiao Xi said she wanted to eat her fill. Now that she had eaten so much, would Yu Xiaoxiao be so angry that she would fire her?
The thought made Qiao Xi’s smile disappear. She straightened up and said calmly, “Hmm, tonight’s dinner was great. I’m exactly 80% full. Shall we go upstairs, Xiaoxiao?”
Yu Xiaoxiao wasn’t her; how could the heiress know how much she had eaten? Since Yu Xiaoxiao liked to eat until she was 80% full, she would just say she was 80% full.
Yu Xiaoxiao heard this and said, “Only 80%? If you’re still hungry, I can have them prepare some dessert for you.”
Qiao Xi’s lips tightened, and she looked utterly baffled.
Oh…
No, she couldn’t eat another bite. The dessert could wait until tomorrow. But from the looks of it, Yu Xiaoxiao seemed to have forgotten her own rule about eating until she was 80% full.
Of course, immersive acting was limited to when a person was energetic. It was so late now, so it was normal for Yu Xiaoxiao to be tired and forget. Perhaps the real Yu Xiaoxiao was the one who was tired.
Qiao Xi quickly shook her head. “No, no, it’s not good to eat too much at night. I’m full enough. Let’s go upstairs, Xiaoxiao?”
Yu Xiaoxiao nodded and led Qiao Xi upstairs.
Qiao Xi started walking ahead, but remembering that Yu Xiaoxiao was the master of the house, she slowed down and followed closely behind once Yu Xiaoxiao passed her.
Qiao Xi felt that even though the day’s work was a little mentally exhausting, she was at least well-fed. It was a pretty good gig!
Author’s Note:
Xiaoxiao: Do you like sweet or savory?
Qiao Xi: As long as I have food, it’s all good, so I choose both.
