Why Not (Lily ABO) - Chapter 1
At the gate of A University, Shi Jing leaned against her car door impatiently, her eyes fixed on the entrance. The reason she was waiting outside the car in 30-degree heat was entirely thanks to her little brother, who abandoned his family for a pretty face.
Two days ago, she received a call from her mother back home, saying that her father would be in A City next weekend for business, and that she would accompany him to A City a weekend early to spend time together. When Shi Jing called Shi Xu yesterday to inform him, he simply said he was going out to dinner with a girl he liked, hung up the phone, and promised to talk later that evening. Because of this, Shi Jing deliberately chose not to work overtime at the company, brought all her work home, and worked in her study until 12 AM, but her brother never returned. This led her to make a special trip to A University today.
It must be said that being young is great; apart from classes, the rest of the time is freely managed. As the day’s classes ended, the number of people at the campus gate gradually increased, from small groups of twos and threes to large crowds, and yes, there were quite a few couples. Shi Jing suddenly felt regretful. Her university life consisted only of a crush on a senior, with no other romantic history. Perhaps she shouldn’t have turned down that Omega from the club back then.
Shi Jing, who was recalling her college years, suddenly spotted him—wasn’t that her beloved little brother? He wouldn’t reply to messages; turns out his soul vanished the moment he saw a cute girl. She strode quickly toward them, preparing to drag him home immediately for a proper lecture. As she got closer, she realized this Omega seemed very popular, with many people greeting her along the way, and she politely responded to all of them.
It was no wonder Shi Xu liked her; she was also the type Shi Jing would like. She had simple makeup, fair skin, a neat, clean ponytail, a basic white T-shirt, and perfectly fitting utility pants.
“Shi—Xu—!”
“Sis? Want to join us for dinner? Shu Yun and I are just heading to that newly opened hot pot place.”
His expression didn’t sound like an invitation; he was clearly trying to shoo her away so she wouldn’t ruin his date. He didn’t even ask what she was doing there, just opened his mouth to dismiss her. But Shi Jing wasn’t going to let him off the hook so easily. She directly ignored Shi Xu’s pleading gaze, turned to look at Fu Shuyun, and after a brief hesitation, started a polite conversation.
“Hello, Shu Yun. Shi Xu has mentioned you. I’m Shi Xu’s older sister, Shi Jing.”
After speaking, she extended her hand to the young woman for a very professional handshake—a habit Shi Jing developed after starting work. She always shook hands upon first meeting someone, but then belatedly remembered that this wasn’t a work meeting, and a simple greeting was enough for a college student. However, Fu Shuyun very politely extended her hand, giving a sunny smile while her eyes lingered on Shi Jing’s face.
“Hello, Sis.”
“I’m very sorry, but you two can’t have dinner together tonight. Shi Xu absolutely has to come home with me. Where are you planning to go? I can drop you off.”
She didn’t forget to shoot Shi Xu a glare. The two of them talked smoothly, ignoring Shi Xu’s protests, and eventually walked together toward the SUV parked by the roadside.
“The World Trade Center, right? There’s a fantastic Japanese restaurant over there. Maybe we can try it together next time. Consider it my treat as compensation for tonight.”
Her little brother had stood up this girl, and it was because she, his sister, had intercepted him halfway. She felt she needed to make some gesture. So, she opened the navigation while starting the car. A glance at the destination reminded her of her former manager who quit his high-level director job to open a Japanese restaurant.
Actually, even if Shi Xu hadn’t come home yesterday, or if he had simply replied to her message today, she wouldn’t have needed to stake him out at the A University gate. After shifting the blame to Shi Xu, the weight on Shi Jing’s conscience instantly lifted. That’s what you get for not taking my words seriously.
“Sure! I love Japanese food, too! Um… can I add you on WeChat, Sis? It would be easier to arrange dinner!”
“Huh? Of course. Just have Shi Xu send you my contact later.”
Only later did Shi Jing realize that she had already been targeted by Fu Shuyun at this very moment. That, of course, is a story for later. At the time, she was puzzled why Fu Shuyun insisted on adding her WeChat; wouldn’t contacting Shi Xu be the same?
As a mature Alpha, respect and understanding for Omegas had always been her principle. This was also why her team had a majority of Omegas. She only valued work ability; compared to arrogant and rude Alphas, Shi Jing preferred working with motivated and responsible Omegas.
It was not yet 5 PM, so they avoided the evening rush hour. The road was clear, and the 10-kilometer drive took less than half an hour, safely arriving at the entrance of the World Trade Center.
“Thank you, Sis. Shi Xu, remember to push Sis’s WeChat to me, okay? Bye, Shi Xu. Bye, Sis.”
With that, Fu Shuyun opened the car door and left. Watching Fu Shuyun’s retreating figure, Shi Xu finally couldn’t hold it in. He had worked tirelessly, running to Fu Shuyun’s classroom after every class, asking all her roommates, and finally learning that she was obsessed with hot pot. It was through hot pot that he finally secured his first wonderful night of eating alone with the Omega he liked—if only Shi Jing hadn’t shown up. Shi Xu was furious now. Why did Fu Shuyun want to add his sister’s WeChat just because of one Japanese dinner invitation?!
“Sis, do you know how much effort I put into tonight? What business is more important than your own brother’s happiness?”
“Mom and Dad are here. They arrive at the airport at 6.”
Instantly, Shi Xu remembered his sister’s call yesterday asking him to come home, along with the stacks of courier boxes piled up in his room, and the room key still in his backpack. He really wanted to punch himself for being so cavalier before the semester started, telling his sister his room didn’t need cleaning and that she wasn’t allowed in, and confidently taking the key with him. If only he had known! Now, not only did he ditch the girl he liked and anger his sister enough to intercept him at school, but he would also likely be lectured by his parents back home. Could anyone be more miserable than him?
Meanwhile, Fu Shuyun, who arrived alone at the World Trade Center, looked at the newly added WeChat contact on her phone, and her mood involuntarily brightened. A smile appeared on her already beautiful face. Fu Shuyun wasn’t that fond of Japanese food; she could tolerate it and would eat it, but her favorite was always all kinds of hot pot. As for why she accepted…
If she had to be honest, she only thought Shi Xu was decent-looking. Overly enthusiastic Alphas always gave her the impression of being unserious; life isn’t just about dating, okay? Accepting the invitation was simply because she couldn’t refuse hot pot. But his sister, Shi Jing, was so regal! Was this what a mature Alpha was like? Her shoulder-length black hair was perfectly neat, she wore a professional suit, had bright blue eyes behind gold-rimmed glasses, and, most importantly, the faint scent of lily of the valley on her. This was Fu Shuyun’s favorite flower, symbolizing the eternal presence of happiness.
From her figure and looks to her pheromones, and even the classical music playing in the car, Shi Jing was exactly what Fu Shuyun envisioned in an ideal partner. She was, simply put, her dream lover. This made the 19-year-old want to fall in love for the very first time and spend a romantic night with Shi Jing.
