Why Not (Lily ABO) - Chapter 7
After the two arrived home, Fu Shuyun immediately let out a big sniff against Wan Yuan the moment she stepped through the door, cuddling the cat and starting a close conversation. The person and the cat chatted seriously, prompting a benevolent, “motherly” smile from Shi Jing as she watched. She took the groceries into the kitchen and was about to start prepping the ingredients when Fu Shuyun shooed her out.
“I said I’d handle it, Sister! Go rest; it will be ready soon!”
Unable to win the argument, Shi Jing had no choice but to leave the kitchen. She fed Wan Yuan some snacks and then went to take a shower. Fu Shuyun finished prepping all the ingredients, arranged them on plates on the table, added boiling water to the electric pot, and put in the hot pot base. Everything was ready. All that was left was for Shi Jing to finish her shower.
Fu Shuyun washed her hands and sat on the sofa, petting Wan Yuan. As expected of someone who virtually pets cats every day, her technique was skillful, making Wan Yuan purr contentedly. Wan Yuan seemed to really like Fu Shuyun; not only did it rub against her to be petted, but it also let out a meow, jumped onto Fu Shuyun’s lap, found a comfortable position, curled up into a cat-loaf, and continued to enjoy the human technician’s service.
Shi Jing’s hair wasn’t long. She disliked using a hairdryer, so she wiped it with a towel, put on her pajamas, and left the room. Seeing Wan Yuan lying on Fu Shuyun’s lap looking completely satisfied, Shi Jing felt jealous.
Why? It eats my food, lives in my house, sleeps in my bed, spends my money, but never cuddles me. It won’t even stay on my lap. A perfunctory snuggle is considered doing me a favor. It runs off after two pats, and I still have to deal with the cat hair. Ungrateful cat!
Fu Shuyun’s state of mind was completely different. She felt life was too beautiful, owning a cat was too much fun, the kitten was too adorable, and being at Sister’s house was pure bliss. The cat’s favor was so engrossing that she didn’t even notice Shi Jing walking toward her.
“Wan Yuan really likes you, doesn’t it, little kitty?”
Shi Jing walked over, not forgetting to sound a little sour. She sat down next to Fu Shuyun on the sofa, propped one arm on the back of the sofa, and used the other hand to turn and pet Wan Yuan, who was lying on Fu Shuyun’s lap. She angrily pinched its ear, kneaded the fat on its belly, and finally reached out to paw at Wan Yuan’s claws, inevitably touching Fu Shuyun’s thigh. Almost the instant Shi Jing’s hand touched her body, Fu Shuyun completely froze. The light scent of lily of the valley filled her nostrils as Shi Jing drew near.
This was the first time she had been so close to Shi Jing. Fu Shuyun could hear her own heartbeat exceptionally loud.
The kitten claws were softer to knead when it was little. Now that it’s grown, its paws aren’t as fun to squeeze as when it was a baby, and it’s not as clingy as it was before. Bad kitty, you can’t even walk straight when you see a pretty girl.
Shi Jing was completely oblivious to the change in Fu Shuyun. She also didn’t notice how suggestive their posture was, still feeling upset that Wan Yuan never actively sought affection from her.
If things continued this way, Fu Shuyun felt she wouldn’t be able to resist eating Shi Jing right now. Even though she was reluctant to break the beautiful moment, she had to speak.
“Sister… the hot pot is ready. Shall we eat?”
“Yes, let’s eat.”
Saying this, she picked up Wan Yuan and tossed it back onto the sofa. The two got up and moved to the dining table. Well, she lived up to her reputation as a hot pot enthusiast; the ingredients she chose were perfect for hot pot, and they were well-prepped. If you eat it a lot, you definitely understand it better.
“Sister, are you free during the National Day holiday? I know an absolutely amazing hot pot place.”
As the two chatted, they discussed their National Day plans. Fu Shuyun invited Shi Jing, saying her parents were traveling and had abandoned her. In truth, she had reserved the time for Shi Jing and declined the invitation to travel with her mothers. But she hadn’t anticipated that Shi Jing would have to go on a business trip.
“National Day, huh? I can go, but it will have to be after I return from my business trip.”
“Eh? You still have to work?”
“It’s okay! Just be sure to ask me out when you get back, I’ll be in A City.”
Making employees travel during the National Day holiday! This company has no conscience! This is blatant exploitation! At that moment, the general manager Fu, who had just finished working overtime and was heading home, sneezed.
Thinking of the intimate interaction between Wan Yuan and Fu Shuyun earlier, Shi Jing’s eyes lit up. If Shi Xu was going back home, it should be fine. He wouldn’t be able to get in anyway since she changed the password.
“Shu Yun, if you don’t have plans for National Day, would you like to stay here? You could look after Wan Yuan for those few days I’m away.”
“I’ll bring you back a gift and treat you to hot pot when I return.”
“On the house.”
This seemed like the best solution for the moment. Fu Shuyun loved cats, and Wan Yuan was clingy with Shu Yun. She’d ask first, and if she wasn’t free, she’d think of other ways. After saying this, she thoughtfully poured Fu Shuyun another glass of cola, observing her expression while waiting for her reply.
“Really?! I’ll take good care of Wan Yuan!”
That’s amazing! I can legitimately stay at Sister’s house! National Day exclusive! An idea seemed to cross her mind, and her cheeks subtly flushed. Given that the two were eating hot pot on a hot day and the air conditioner was running constantly, it was naturally a bit warm while eating, so Shi Jing didn’t pay too much attention.
Shi Jing offered to drive Fu Shuyun back to school, but she was flatly refused. Fu Shuyun had already called a ride-share. Shi Jing was worried, so Fu Shuyun handed her phone to Shi Jing, showing the Omega-specific autonomous driving feature with full location sharing for safe travel protection. She didn’t want to bother Shi Jing, and taking a taxi back to school wasn’t expensive.
Shi Jing considered driving her car out to make things easier. The car her mother gave her as a graduation gift was still parked in the yard. She had only driven it once—the day she picked it up and drove it home. It hadn’t been started in over a year.
Respecting Fu Shuyun’s choice, Shi Jing tidied up the house, checked the location tracker and the reservation time, and took Fu Shuyun downstairs early. The community was quiet at night as the two walked side-by-side.
“Next time, you can set the location to the West Gate; it’s a bit closer.”
Shi Jing told Fu Shuyun as they walked. Thinking about Fu Shuyun coming to her house during the National Day holiday to look after Wan Yuan, she took a key from her pocket, detached the community gate card, and handed both to Fu Shuyun.
“The gate card works for every gate, and the key is for the house front door. Shi Xu will be home for National Day, and just in case, I’ll change the door code. Just use the key to enter and exit. I’ll get it back from you when I return.”
Shi Jing entered and exited the community daily, and the security guards knew her. Her car was already registered and could drive directly into the parking lot, so she gave the gate card to Fu Shuyun as well. I need to find time to go to the supermarket, she thought. I’m low on household items. I also need to restock the fridge. Since I’m asking her to look after Wan Yuan, I have to make sure she’s comfortable.
Listening to Shi Jing’s words, a warm feeling flowed through Fu Shuyun’s heart. Sister is so thoughtful. Holding the key to Shi Jing’s house in her hand, this was probably the kind of love she longed for. Every moment spent with Shi Jing was happy. Shi Jing respected her, spoke gently, and the tenderness was not just in her tone but in every word she said. Look, she hasn’t even said anything yet, and she’s already given me the key! She even suggested changing the code during the holiday to ensure Shi Xu wouldn’t suddenly break in.
What a good sister. So, when would she be able to interact with her as her girlfriend?
“Let me know when you get to the dorm. Be safe.”
Fu Shuyun said goodbye to Shi Jing. The smile hadn’t left her face all day. Whether it was the joy of petting the cat or the final conversation with Shi Jing, everything made her feel great. Yun Yan even asked her why she was back. Fu Shuyun thought, I didn’t want to come back! But she didn’t have a reason to stay overnight. Even if she had stayed, Sister would definitely sleep in the study, so what would be the point of staying overnight?!
