Chapter 9
Yan Zuyi immediately erupted into furious curses. Everyone hurried over to restrain him and calm him down.
Yan Zhixing and Yan Zhiyue had already taken advantage of the chaos to slip away.
Yan Chengyu behaved like a complete clown. Even with his grandfather nearly dying of anger, he didn’t forget to shower the protagonist gong and shou with exaggerated flattery. “Oh, Grandpa, you’re already old, and your thinking is outdated. Everyone believes in freedom of love and equality now. Who still follows that feudal nonsense about continuing the family line? Same-sex marriage is already legal! The country officially recognizes it! If you insist on separating them, aren’t you opposing the country? Besides, Uncle and Auntie are such a perfect match! Auntie especially is like a little immortal descended to the mortal realm. How could that Miss Rong you mentioned possibly compare with Auntie? Your eyesight isn’t very good either! It seems that Uncle shouldn’t merely make you an appointment with the ENT department. He should also arrange an ophthalmology appointment…”
“Wh-What? What did you say?” Yan Zuyi’s eyes widened as he stared at him in disbelief. “How… How could even you, Chengyu…”
Yan Zuyi suddenly opened his mouth and gasped several times, feeling as though he were only one step away from dying on the spot.
“Yan Chengyu! Shut your mouth!” Luo Manxiang furiously grabbed Yan Chengyu by the ear, dragged him back, and kicked him hard in the backside twice.
What was wrong with this child today? Had his brain filled with water?!
Jian Anmian met Yan Chengyu’s eyes. Even while being beaten, he hadn’t forgotten to wink at Jian Anmian. Goose bumps instantly covered Jian Anmian’s body, and he tremblingly pressed a little closer to Yan Zhimo.
Although a fictional character’s personality couldn’t completely capture a real, three-dimensional person, the protagonist gong’s eldest nephew was far too different from how he had been portrayed in the novel!
What happened to the vicious male supporting character who relied on his mother’s protection to behave arrogantly, tyrannize others, and run rampant?
Who was this ingratiating little eunuch grinning across the room without the slightest concern for his own mother’s dignity?!
In truth, Yan Chengyu had awakened some time ago. He learned that the world he lived in was a novel and that his uncle and auntie were the protagonist gong and shou. In the future, they would experience a deeply tormented romance before ultimately dying together. But before his death, his uncle would drag down everyone who had ever bullied his auntie—including Yan Chengyu.
After awakening, Yan Chengyu had instantly burst into tears from fear. He had merely gossiped a little and played a few pranks, yet his uncle ultimately had him killed. His uncle was far too terrifying.
Yan Chengyu had trembled in fear and hidden at home during this period, thinking desperately of a solution. In the end, he finally made up his mind. He would turn over a new leaf, behave obediently, become a good person, and cling tightly to his uncle and auntie’s thighs. He only hoped that before his uncle and auntie departed this world, they wouldn’t take him along with them!
Yan Zhimo’s gaze passed over Yan Zuyi, who was frantically struggling to catch his breath, and settled on Bai Murou. Addressing her directly by name, he asked, “Bai Murou, who told you this morning that I had gone to visit Grandma?”
Bai Murou froze. Panic flashed briefly through her eyes, and her smile became forced. “Wh-What are you talking about? What do you mean, who told me? I merely remembered that I hadn’t visited Mom in a long time. Running into you was just a coincidence.”
“Is that so?” Yan Zhimo glanced at Luo Manxiang, whose expression had subtly changed, then sneered. As though watching an entertaining show, his sharp gaze shot directly into Bai Murou’s guilty, evasive eyes. “Then have you considered why that person didn’t go there personally to stop me and deliberately told you instead?”
Bai Murou froze again. In the next second, her expression abruptly changed, and she turned toward Luo Manxiang in disbelief.
Only then did she realize that she had been used as a weapon.
“Enough!” Yan Zuyi shoved away Bai Murou and Luo Manxiang, who had been supporting him. His features twisted hideously as he glared viciously at Yan Zhimo as though staring at an enemy. “You’ve done nothing but fan the flames and sow discord since you came back! I think you deliberately want to destroy this family! Do you want all of us to die?!”
Yan Zhimo smiled faintly.
Heh. Why wouldn’t he?
This family had already rotted completely from the moment he was born.
If they all died, they could accompany his mother in death.
Yan Zhimo turned toward Jian Anmian and gently stroked his ear. His voice was tender. “Are you finished eating? If you are, we’ll go home.”
Jian Anmian weakly glanced at the plate before him, from which he had taken barely two bites. “…”
What if I say I’m not finished?
Yan Zhimo followed his gaze and paused. Perhaps he also realized how idiotic his question had been because he smoothly changed his wording without altering his expression. “It’s fine. Once we get home, I’ll ask Auntie Wang to prepare something you like.”
After speaking, he ignored Yan Zuyi’s furious tantrum, took Jian Anmian’s hand, and turned to leave.
“Oh, right. I nearly forgot.” As though remembering something, Yan Zhimo abruptly stopped and turned around. He coldly looked at Yan Zuyi’s distorted face. “When I visited Grandma today, she called your name.”
It was as though a basin of icy water had been poured over Yan Zuyi’s head. His entire body instantly stiffened, motionless as a statue.
“Although I don’t like you disturbing Grandma, she misses you. Visit her when you have time. She doesn’t have much time left.”
After those final words, Yan Zhimo decisively led Jian Anmian away.
Yan Chengyu forcefully broke free from Luo Manxiang’s restraint and chased them outside. He waved goodbye to Yan Zhimo and Jian Anmian, remaining a devoted simp from beginning to end.
…
After getting into the car, Jian Anmian couldn’t help glancing at Yan Zhimo again and again.
Without turning his head, Yan Zhimo said, “If you want to ask something, ask directly.”
Jian Anmian hesitated for two seconds before tentatively asking, “Are you really not getting divorced anymore?”
Yan Zhimo paused. He had assumed that the pile of family drama earlier had frightened Jian Anmian and that he wanted to ask what was wrong with the Yan family. He hadn’t expected Jian Anmian to care only about this. Sure enough, Yan Zhimo was the most important person in the little fellow’s heart.
Yan Zhimo curled his lips. “Don’t worry. I’m not divorcing you. Our contract will remain in effect. If there isn’t anywhere in particular you want to go, you can stay for the time being.”
Jian Anmian: “…”
Why should I feel relieved?
Yan Zhimo secretly glanced at Jian Anmian. The little fellow was introverted and quiet, unaccustomed to revealing his emotions. He wasn’t showing any reaction even after hearing such wonderful news. After thinking briefly, Yan Zhimo lightly cleared his throat and added in an obvious attempt to conceal his intentions, “Also, you don’t need to worry. I won’t casually touch you without your consent.”
Jian Anmian: “…”
He recalled how the protagonist gong had repeatedly touched him ever since he transmigrated into the book and didn’t believe that final statement in the slightest.
Still, they were legally married. Even if the protagonist gong truly wanted him, how could he possibly resist?
Besides, the novel had started with a sex scene. Yet the most intimate thing they had done so far was hold hands and touch each other’s faces…
Come to think of it, was there something wrong with this protagonist gong?
Could the flutter of Jian Anmian’s butterfly wings have blown away the protagonist gong’s formerly unflagging erection?
Jian Anmian’s gaze involuntarily drifted toward Yan Zhimo…
“What are you looking at?” Yan Zhimo suddenly asked.
Startled, Jian Anmian guiltily lowered his eyes, his heartbeat instantly accelerating. “…I wasn’t looking at anything!”
Yan Zhimo glanced at him before abruptly pulling the car over. He braced an arm against the seatback, turned sideways, and enclosed Jian Anmian within his embrace. Slowly leaning closer, he removed Jian Anmian’s mask and looked at the little fellow huddling into himself, curled tightly in the corner after being cornered by him.
“I just told you that I wouldn’t casually touch you without your consent.” Yan Zhimo’s low, unhurried voice sounded beside Jian Anmian’s ear. His fingers gently caressed Jian Anmian’s earlobe, and he watched the small patch of pale flesh rapidly turn visibly red, like a drop of blood splashed across it. “But if you insist on wanting it, I wouldn’t be unwilling to give it to you…”
“No, no, no!” Jian Anmian emphasized it three times in succession. His face was so red it seemed ready to bleed, and his entire body trembled with embarrassment like a small animal being bullied.
Yan Zhimo stared at him and suddenly felt excited. Yet he continued mercilessly bullying the little fellow, questioning him unhurriedly. “Then what were you looking at just now? Hmm?”
The man’s body was far larger than his own, and his aggressively imposing presence filled the narrow space. He was so close that if Jian Anmian raised his head even slightly, he would kiss the sexy, pale mole on Yan Zhimo’s Adam’s apple.
“I… I wasn’t looking!” Jian Anmian kept his head firmly lowered. He felt like a small animal pinned beneath a beast’s sharp claws and fangs, with nowhere to escape. He was nearly in tears, yet he continued stubbornly denying it.
“You’re lying.” Yan Zhimo unhurriedly toyed with Jian Anmian’s earlobe, while his words remained relentlessly aggressive. “Children who lie are bad children.”
“No…” Jian Anmian’s breathing quickened. He anxiously grabbed Yan Zhimo’s sleeve and shook his head. “I’m not a bad child.”
For some unknown reason, he cared deeply about how the man judged him in this regard and stubbornly rejected the claim that he was “bad.”
Yan Zhimo glanced at the hand clutching his sleeve, and his eyes darkened as he stared at Jian Anmian. “Then tell me. What were you doing just now?”
Waves of dizziness swept through Jian Anmian’s head, and his heartbeat accelerated beyond his control. Unable to endure it any longer, he guiltily admitted in a tearful voice, “I’m sorry, Mr. Yan. I was secretly looking at you.”
“It’s all right.” Yan Zhimo slowly wiped the tear from the corner of Jian Anmian’s eye. He lowered his gaze to his slightly damp fingertip, leisurely rubbed the moisture away with his thumb, then straightened and ordered, “You’re not allowed to lie again.”
His lips curled upward. Looking at the little fellow who was so ashamed he wanted the ground to swallow him, Yan Zhimo deliberately called him, “Little horny puppy.”
