After Transmigrating into a Sadistic Novel, the Socially Anxious Sickly Beauty Just Wants to Sleep - Chapter 10
Because the male lead somehow decided not to get a divorce after all, Jian Anmian returned to Yan Zhimuo’s villa.
Yan Zhimuo was usually busy with work, keeping a 9-to-5 schedule with daily overtime and business trips on weekends. Meanwhile, Jian Anmian slept from morning to night and then from night to morning; if you added up all the time he spent with his eyes open during the day, it probably didn’t even amount to two hours.
The two of them barely saw each other at all, a lifestyle Jian Anmian found perfectly leisurely and comfortable.
Who knew when the male lead might suddenly be overcome by his “primal instincts” and want to do that with him? Modern novel protagonists were incredibly competitive—starting at “seven times a night,” with each session lasting at least two hours.
Not only would his sleep time be drastically cut, but this fragile little body wouldn’t be able to take it. He’d likely hyperventilate and drop dead right on the bed during one of those sessions.
Since the male lead didn’t seem to have those thoughts yet, Jian Anmian figured he should sleep as much as possible while he still could.
After a period of peaceful coexistence, Auntie Wang came up one day to wake him, saying his mother had come to visit.
When Jian Anmian first heard the news, he didn’t even register it. Life in the male lead’s house was so comfortable he had almost forgotten he even had a mother.
“Okay, thank you, Auntie Wang. I’ll be down in a moment. Please help me look after her first.”
Jian Anmian didn’t actually want to see her, but since she had come to the door, it would be rude not to go down. He put on a coat, zipped it all the way to his chin, and donned a mask. Armed to the teeth, with only his slender fingertips and fair forehead exposed, he took a deep breath and went downstairs to meet the original host’s mother.
The moment Xu Peiying saw Jian Anmian, she stood up with teary eyes. She opened her arms as if to embrace him, her artificial tone giving him goosebumps: “I finally get to see you, Mianmian! Mommy missed you so much. Come here and let Mommy get a good look at you! Are you living well here? Do you miss Mommy?”
Jian Anmian gasped and retreated in sheer terror, narrowly avoiding Xu Peiying’s touch.
Is this mother… okay? She was clearly scolding him for being inconsiderate the first time they met!
Xu Peiying retracted her hands awkwardly. After sitting down, she patted the seat beside her, smiling with maternal affection. “Look at me, I forgot my Mianmian doesn’t like being touched. Come sit, Mianmian, let’s have a good talk. Mommy won’t touch you anymore, okay?”
Jian Anmian looked uncomfortably at the seat next to her, then sat down silently on the sofa furthest away from her.
This distance was finally tolerable.
Xu Peiying’s expression almost cracked. In her mind, she cursed Jian Anmian as everything from an ungrateful wolf to an unfilial son, but she kept the fake smile on her face. “Mianmian, your admission letter arrived. You used the home address on the application, so the courier delivered it to the house. I came specifically to bring it to you and see how you’re doing.”
She smilingly pulled an envelope out of a file bag and placed it on the coffee table between them. “This is your admission letter from Jingcheng University. I haven’t even opened the package yet, I was waiting for you to open it yourself. Congratulations on getting into your first choice!”
Jian Anmian froze. The next second, his mental state collapsed.
What did he just hear?
His admission letter arrived?
He has to… go to school?!
Xu Peiying paused, her tone softening. “Mianmian, actually, Mommy came here for another important matter. I need a small favor. I heard the Yan family is looking for new partnerships lately. Since you’ve married into the family, we’re all one household now. Do you think you could mention it to President Yan? Ask him to give this opportunity to us. It’s better for family to work with family, right? As they say, ‘don’t let the fertile water flow into outsider’s fields.’ It’s a win-win for everyone. I know my Mianmian is the most sensible; you’ll surely complete this task Mommy gave you, right?”
Jian Anmian was still reeling from the nightmare of having to go to school. It took him a long while to snap out of it. Turning his head, he saw Xu Peiying’s urgent, coercive expression and finally understood.
No wonder his “cheap” mother’s attitude had suddenly improved—she wanted something from him.
“Okay,” Jian Anmian nodded without hesitation.
It took Xu Peiying a few seconds to process that he had agreed. Her face immediately lit up with joy. She hadn’t expected him to agree so quickly; she had prepared a whole speech that was now unnecessary.
It was best if he was obedient; at least raising him hadn’t been a waste.
Xu Peiying stood up smilingly, wanting to pat his head again, but he naturally dodged her. She didn’t mind; the “tenderness” in her eyes was exaggeratedly fake. “Thank you, Mianmian. I knew you still cared about our family. We will always be your closest kin. Mommy will head back now and visit you again in a while.”
However, as soon as she left, Jian Anmian immediately messaged Yan Zhimuo, recounting everything that had just happened.
He’d leave all these messy affairs to the male lead to handle. He was just a “salted fish” and couldn’t be bothered. As for agreeing to his mother earlier, it was just to get her to leave quickly so he wouldn’t have to talk to her anymore.
The next second, Yan Zhimuo called him.
Jian Anmian almost reflexively hung up again, but his fear of the man stopped him. He gave himself a little pep talk and answered.
Yan Zhimuo’s deep, amused voice came through the phone, carrying a unique, metallic resonance that was very pleasant to hear.
“Not bad. You finally didn’t hang up on me this time.”
“Mr. Yan…!” And he said he wasn’t petty, yet he remembered it until now!
Yan Zhimuo shifted into a tone like a boss questioning a subordinate: “What do you think about what your mother said?”
“Mr. Yan can decide.”
It would be best if he just ignored them, Jian Anmian thought spitefully. After all, they had been so cruel to the original host.
As if he possessed mind-reading powers, Yan Zhimuo immediately asked: “Is that your true thought?”
“…”
Yan Zhimuo’s voice suddenly dropped, enunciating his name clearly: “Jian Anmian, what did I say last time?”
Jian Anmian wiped the sweat from his palms. “Don’t… don’t lie again.”
The sound of a fingertip tapping on a desk came from the other side. Yan Zhimuo’s voice was steady and magnetic. Accompanied by the rhythmic tapping, he slowly and deliberately coaxed Jian Anmian: “So, what are your thoughts? Tell me, Jian Anmian.”
Jian Anmian’s heart rate spiked. His fingers clenched and unclenched. He nervously licked his lips and whispered, “Actually… it would be okay even if you just ignored them.”
Yan Zhimuo’s deep chuckle vibrated through the line, instantly making Jian Anmian’s ears turn red with shame. “Good. I understand. As a reward for being a good child, I’ll grant your wish.”
After hanging up, Yan Zhimuo recalled the conversation, a lingering smile on his lips. He had thought he was dealing with an innocent little baby, but it turned out the kid had a “black sesame” filling.
When they signed the marriage agreement, he had already given the Qin family plenty of benefits. He hadn’t expected them to be so greedy that they would try to use the kid as a pawn.
He never intended to agree anyway, and now that the kid was on his side, he wouldn’t be polite about it. After all, the Qin family never treated Jian Anmian like their own.
Thinking about how, in the novel’s setting, Xu Peiying’s neglect was the reason Jian Anmian was so sickly, Yan Zhimuo felt a surge of rage. He suddenly regretted promising so many benefits to the Qins. The one marrying him was Jian Anmian—what did it have to do with them? If he’d known, he wouldn’t have given them a cent.
Unfortunately, the contracts were signed and couldn’t be breached. He hadn’t “awakened” back then and couldn’t have predicted the future. Once those partnerships expired, he would terminate them immediately; the Qins wouldn’t get another scrap from the Yan family!
As Yan Zhimuo plotted, he looked down at the formal name “Jian Anmian” on his call history and frowned with dissatisfaction. After a moment’s thought, he changed the contact name to “Good Child.” He stared at it for a few seconds before smiling contentedly.
On the other side.
Jian Anmian had opened the package. Sitting before him was a beautiful, exquisite admission letter from Jingcheng University.
For anyone else, this would be the “dream school” they’d worked 18 years for.
But Jian Anmian… just wanted to cry.
In his previous life, due to his health, he had lived in hospitals since birth. He had tutors for classes and had never set foot in a school in his entire life. He never envied the kids who could go. He was a socially anxious person by nature and hated talking to people; his family once thought he was autistic before realizing it was just his personality.
Being shut in the house made him happier.
After transmigrating, he thought he could stay in the male lead’s house forever, being a “salted fish” who laid flat. Now, he was suddenly told that he, who had never even been to school, was about to start!
School meant seeing lots and lots of people, talking to lots and lots of people, living in a dormitory, staying in the same room for long periods with lots and lots of strangers, and being forced into friendships by lots and lots of people he didn’t know…
How could something as terrifying as school exist in this world?!
Whoever wants to go to school can go! He certainly doesn’t want to!
Waaaah!
