A Cannon-Fodder Alpha Marked The Future Villainess After Transmigrating Into A Novel - Chapter 1
City First Hospital.
An ambulance sped toward the emergency building, its siren shrieking piercingly.
“Move! Quickly, get out of the way!” Medical staff rushed down from the ambulance, pushing a stretcher.
A news report was playing on the hospital’s television wall.
“Breaking news: A villager recently discovered a woman’s body on West Mountain. According to police, the deceased has been identified as the woman who disappeared five years ago…”
People came and went through the corridor, but no one paid any attention.
Suddenly, a group of medical personnel came charging through with a stretcher, heading straight for the emergency room. Everyone hurriedly moved aside.
“The patient suffered severe trauma to the head and needs immediate surgery.”
“Take her directly to the operating room. Prepare for surgery at once.”
“The patient’s blood pressure…”
The clamor of voices mingled with the shrill beeping of medical equipment. Xie Jing felt all those sounds growing farther and farther away.
Was she going to die?
Xie Jing slowly closed her eyes and sank into darkness.
Yet in the next second, an unusually alluring fragrance drifted into her nose.
It seemed to be the scent of roses, faintly wrapping around her as though she had fallen into a boundless sea of rose blossoms. Her body felt strangely hot, and beneath the floral fragrance was also a cool, sharp scent of tea.
This had to be heaven!
Looking back on her thirty years of life, she truly had never done anything heinous. On the contrary, she was a police officer serving the people. Although she had never solved any earth-shattering cases, she had cracked her fair share of smaller ones.
It did not seem unreasonable for her to go to heaven after death.
The corners of Xie Jing’s lips curved upward slightly. She slowly opened her eyes amid that sea of roses—only for her heart to jolt violently.
A woman was hovering directly above her, staring down at her with hazy, unfocused eyes.
?!
Xie Jing froze in shock.
The woman had fair skin and features as exquisite as the dolls Xie Jing had played with as a child. For a moment, Xie Jing forgot to push her away.
The woman was breathing rapidly, and the scent of roses in the air seemed to grow even richer.
“Who are you? Wasn’t I—”
Soft lips descended and sealed off the rest of Xie Jing’s words.
Xie Jing’s eyes widened.
The woman kissed clumsily, without any technique or rhythm. It could barely even be called kissing—she was practically biting her.
“Hiss—”
Coming back to her senses, Xie Jing pushed the woman away.
One lay beneath the other as their eyes met.
The woman’s gaze was dazed, her eyes glistening like pools of spring water.
Xie Jing: “…”
Did heaven hand out wives now?
That did not seem too bad.
The fragrance of roses in the room seemed to thicken again. Xie Jing suddenly felt the back of her neck throbbing. Her body grew hotter and hotter, as though something inside her was desperately trying to break free.
The woman pressed close again.
Xie Jing’s reason slowly began to dissolve. A primal craving took control of her body, driving her to capture the woman’s soft lips and suck on them.
The taste and scent of roses filled the space between their lips and teeth.
It was as though the woman herself had been made from roses. Every taste of her carried their fragrance.
Xie Jing wrapped an arm around the woman’s waist. The slender waist, barely wider than a handspan, was locked firmly against her body.
The woman struggled once, only to be held even tighter.
Gradually, Xie Jing was no longer satisfied with merely rubbing and tasting her lips.
Her kisses began to trail downward.
The crisp, cool fragrance of fresh tea tightly enveloped the scent of roses, like a glass of iced rose tea on a scorching summer day.
Xie Jing desperately needed that cup of tea to quench her thirst.
When she opened her eyes again, she saw a crude ceiling, walls made from packed earth, and an unfamiliar woman lying in her arms.
Even more shocking were the overlapping purple and blue marks covering the woman’s neck and shoulders.
Xie Jing stared in disbelief.
Where was she?
Hadn’t she died and gone to heaven?
And who was this woman?
As she wondered, a burst of crackling static suddenly sounded inside her head.
Then a voice spoke.
“Hello, Host. I am Villain Rescue System 007. It is a pleasure to serve you.”
Villain Rescue System 007?
What the hell was that?
Xie Jing’s mind was a complete mess.
The voice continued, “You have transmigrated into an ABO period novel titled The Educated Youth Male Lead’s Delicate Wife. I will now transmit the contents of the novel to you.”
“…”
Before Xie Jing could react, a jumble of text flooded into her head.
It took her a long while to sort through it all.
In essence, the male and female leads met after being sent down to the countryside. They fell in love, supported each other, and spent the story matching wits and strength against the villain.
After thinking for a moment, Xie Jing asked in a trembling voice, “Am I the female lead?”
Xie Jing liked women. She had realized back in high school that she had no interest in men.
“You’re getting a little ahead of yourself,” 007 replied.
“…”
Xie Jing let out a sigh of relief, but she still could not resist rolling her eyes.
Did this damned system even know how to speak properly?
It was not as though she wanted to be some stupid female lead anyway.
Xie Jing curled her lips, but her expression suddenly stiffened.
Lowering her head, she looked at the woman in her arms.
“She isn’t the female lead, is she?”
If she was, that would truly be ridiculous.
Xie Jing had marked the female lead the moment she arrived.
007 corrected her. “Host, you really are overthinking things. She is not the female lead. She is Ning Yunqing, the greatest villain in the novel. Your mission is to save her, prevent her from turning evil, and change her fate.”
The villain?
She had actually marked the villain?
The ruthless villain who had tormented the male and female leads beyond belief?
Xie Jing looked as though she had lost all desire to live.
“And then?”
007 replied, “After completing the entire plot, you will be able to return to your original world.”
So she had not died in her original world!
Xie Jing breathed a sigh of relief.
After hearing the doctors talking in the emergency room, she had thought she was done for. Fortunately, they had managed to save her.
007 added, “Although you are not dead, you remain unconscious and could die at any moment. Only after completing your mission will you be able to wake up. Of course, if you fail the mission, you will also be erased.”
What?
Xie Jing went numb.
What the damned system meant was that she had no choice but to complete the mission. Otherwise, only death awaited her.
“Why did the villain commit suicide?” Xie Jing asked.
The information she had received had not explained why the villain killed herself.
007 replied, “The original novel never explained it. You will have to discover that for yourself.”
“…”
What kind of answer was that?
Resigned, Xie Jing closed her eyes.
This damned system had explained nothing clearly and still expected her to save the villain.
How was she supposed to do that?
At present, all she knew was that the villain was ruthless and merciless and would one day wield tremendous power. Other than that, she knew absolutely nothing.
Worse still, she had marked Ning Yunqing the moment she arrived.
When Ning Yunqing woke up, she would probably want to tear Xie Jing into a thousand pieces.
Pressing her lips together, Xie Jing clung to one final shred of hope.
“System, who am I?”
She was not the female lead, and she obviously could not be the male lead either. The genders did not match.
007 replied, “Your identity in the novel is the female lead’s devoted lapdog.”
The female lead’s lapdog?
Xie Jing completely lost her composure.
There was only one such character in the story: a cannon-fodder character who shared her exact name and died only a few chapters into the novel.
So she had transmigrated for practically nothing.
Xie Jing asked, “So the first thing I need to do is stay alive?”
007 replied, “In theory, yes.”
Ha.
It really was a damned system!
If Xie Jing remembered correctly, the original character’s family was fairly well-off.
Her parents were honest farmers. Her older brother, Xie Huai, worked at the canned-food factory in town. He was a Beta without pheromones and received quite a few subsidies in addition to his monthly wages.
There was also a younger sister, Xie Zhenzhen, who had not yet differentiated.
The original Xie Jing was an Alpha and was deeply doted on by her family.
However, the original character had fallen for the female lead and constantly took food from home to support her, only to meet a tragic end.
Now that Xie Jing was here, she naturally would not follow the original character’s path.
Whoever wanted to be the female lead’s lapdog could do it.
She certainly would not!
As though it knew what she was thinking, 007 reminded her at just the right moment, “Please do not stray from the character’s original settings, Host. Otherwise, you will be punished.”
Xie Jing asked, “What punishment?”
007 replied, “That has not yet been determined.”
“If you don’t even know, then everything you just said was meaningless,” Xie Jing said disdainfully.
007 fell silent.
Only then did Xie Jing have the opportunity to look at the woman in her arms again.
Even as alarm filled her heart, she could not help marveling at her appearance.
Her skin was fair, and her brows were like distant mountains painted in dark ink.
She had to admit that the villain was an extraordinarily rare beauty.
Bah, bah, bah!
Xie Jing immediately despised herself.
Her mind truly had been taken over by lust.
She still had no idea how to explain what had happened last night, yet she actually had the nerve to stare at the woman in infatuation.
Xie Jing pushed those improper thoughts away and closed her eyes.
When she opened them again, she unexpectedly met a pair of pitiful, vulnerable eyes.
Their gazes locked, and Xie Jing’s heart lurched.
How had she woken up so quickly?!
Xie Jing let out two awkward laughs and said shakily, “Look… whatever you want… I’ll do everything in my power to compensate you.”
This was the only solution she could think of right now.
She could only hope Ning Yunqing would accept the offer and, ideally, stop holding the matter against her.
Compensate her?
Ning Yunqing bit her lip tightly, refusing to let her tears fall.
She withdrew from Xie Jing’s embrace and sat up.
Her eyes landed on the clothes that had been ripped into a pitiful mess on the floor.
Clutching the blanket tightly against her chest, Ning Yunqing’s eyes shimmered with tears.
How was this woman some ruthless and merciless future villain?
She was clearly a frightened little rabbit.
In the next second, however, Xie Jing could no longer smile.
Ning Yunqing suddenly lunged at her and sank her teeth viciously into her shoulder.
The blanket slipped away, and their bodies pressed tightly together.
“Hiss!”
Xie Jing grimaced in pain.
“It hurts… Let go first. I—I’ll compensate you. I really will.”
Xie Jing desperately begged for mercy.
Only when the taste of blood spread through Ning Yunqing’s mouth did she slowly release her bite.
It was then that she realized the blanket between them had somehow fallen away.
She was completely naked, lying on top of Xie Jing.
Ning Yunqing scrambled upright, pulled the blanket over her vital areas, and turned her back.
When she suddenly moved away, Xie Jing clutched her shoulder, baring her teeth from the pain.
It felt as though Ning Yunqing had nearly bitten off a piece of her flesh.
As expected of the future villain—she certainly showed no mercy.
Xie Jing suspected that if a knife were placed in front of Ning Yunqing right now, she would pick it up and kill her without hesitation.
How vicious!
She needed to stay far away from such a dangerous person in the future.
Clutching the blanket tightly, Ning Yunqing said in a trembling voice, “I don’t have any clothes.”
Xie Jing froze.
Then both her cheeks began to burn.
It seemed she had ripped Ning Yunqing’s clothes apart last night.
Had one taste of sex really turned her into such a beast?
Her gaze subconsciously drifted toward Ning Yunqing, but all she saw was a dazzling stretch of pale skin.
Ning Yunqing held the blanket against her chest with her back facing Xie Jing, leaving her entire back exposed.
Her skin was as white as freshly fallen snow, almost glowing.
Xie Jing quickly looked away.
Without even bothering to dress herself, she picked up the clothes she had torn nearly into scraps and held them over her chest.
Then she ran to the wardrobe and rummaged through it in a panic.
Everyone was poor in this era.
Although the original character’s older brother worked at the canned-food factory and their family was slightly better off, even their clothes were covered in patch after patch.
Xie Jing tried to find a piece with fewer patches and shakily handed it to Ning Yunqing.
She then grabbed another set of clothes and threw them on herself.
Judging from the information the system had transmitted to her, there had never been a scene in the original novel where the villain was marked.
So what exactly had happened last night?
And why had the villain come to the original Xie Jing’s home?
