A Consequence of Opposing the Heroine’s Halo (GL) - Chapter 37
“Go with you to Green Wood Peak?” Liu Sanye asked, puzzled. “Why would I go with you to Green Wood Peak?”
Hearing this, Bai Tong silently grabbed Liu Sanye’s hand and looked at Jun Yining with a gaze full of wariness.
Jun Yining felt a chill run down his spine. Why did he suddenly feel so uneasy? Did he really look like a bad guy?
Instead of replying, Jun Yining turned to Xun Qiu for help. “Elder Xun, didn’t you tell them? I’m acting under orders! Why are they looking at me like I’m a kidnapper?”
Xun Qiu couldn’t help but start cracking melon seeds. “You’re right here, aren’t you? Why do you need me to explain?”
As she spoke, Xun Qiu pulled a cloud-stool out of her storage space. She sat down and began munching on her seeds with great interest, looking every bit like a spectator at a play, with absolutely no intention of clarifying anything.
Jun Yining felt a deep sense of despair toward this “phoney” elder. He carefully considered his wording before replying, “It’s like this: my Master saw your incredible talent and wants to take you as a disciple. That’s why he sent me to bring you to Green Wood Peak. I’ve been busy with Eldest Senior Sister’s matters lately and haven’t been to the Southern Dividing Ridge. Since we bumped into each other today, just come back to Green Wood Peak with me.”
Liu Sanye didn’t want to go to Green Wood Peak right now, so she made up a random excuse to brush him off. “And how do you prove that the Peak Master actually sent you to get me?”
Jun Yining wore a look of shock. “Does this even need proof?”
Liu Sanye nodded. “Yes, it needs proof. Otherwise, what if you’re a human trafficker trying to abduct me?”
Liu Sanye’s skin was thick and she had no shame. She was already so big; who would bother abducting her? She didn’t even believe it herself. However, the ever-upright Bai Tong nodded with great seriousness in agreement. “Sanye is right.”
Liu Sanye, who usually never blushed when lying, felt her composure slip after hearing Bai Tong’s support. What did she just hear?! Bai Tong actually agreed with such a ridiculous excuse! Liu Sanye was startled into a fit of coughing, but she couldn’t let her facade fall. After a few coughs, she maintained a calm and collected face.
Jun Yining felt personally attacked and turned to Xun Qiu again. “Elder Xun, please, help me prove it.”
Xun Qiu sat there cracking seeds, laughing as she chewed. She replied with a giggle, “I can prove that Feng Zhu wants to take Sanye as a disciple, and I can prove you are a disciple of Green Wood Peak. But I have no idea if the person Feng Zhu sent was actually you.”
Jun Yining felt a deep sense of malice. He put on a mournful face. “None of you believe me! I’m going to find Senior Sister!”
With that, he turned and ran to call for Chu Danxue.
Liu Sanye hadn’t expected Jun Yining to actually go and get reinforcements—and the Eldest Senior Sister at that! How shameless.
Xun Qiu, seeing through Liu Sanye’s thoughts, spoke with a look of helplessness. “Yining has been Danxue’s little shadow since he was small. He runs to his Senior Sister for every tiny thing. His skin is incredibly thick, almost a match for yours.”
Liu Sanye agreed that Jun Yining was thick-skinned, but what did she mean by “a match for hers”! Was her skin thick?!
Liu Sanye glared at Xun Qiu in a huff. Seeing this, Xun Qiu laughed. “I said it wrong. In terms of thick skin, you’re definitely the winner.”
Liu Sanye ground her molars, even angrier now!
Bai Tong, who had been silent, saw this and began patting Sanye’s back to soothe her. She defended her: “Elder, you shouldn’t speak ill of Sanye. Sanye’s skin isn’t thick.” Of course, it wasn’t thin either…
The moment Bai Tong spoke, Liu Sanye’s anger dropped to zero. She hadn’t expected Bai Tong to speak up for her. For a moment, she was so moved she even stuttered. “S-So it’s Tongtong who has the most insight.”
The two shared a look; Bai Tong’s eyes crinkled with a smile, and Liu Sanye was so happy she couldn’t close her mouth.
Xun Qiu found the sight unbearable. She dramatically covered her eyes, crying out, “Moral decay! Such moral decay!”
Before long, Jun Yining brought Chu Danxue over. He said to her, “Senior Sister, tell them—did Master send me to fetch Little Sanye for Green Wood Peak?”
Chu Danxue, having just come out of seclusion, looked a bit bewildered. She turned to Jun Yining and said, “But, I wasn’t aware of this matter.”
Then, Jun Yining recounted the whole story of Feng Zhu wanting to take Liu Sanye as a disciple to Chu Danxue.
After hearing the full account, Chu Danxue pondered for a moment. “I naturally believe Junior Brother Yining.”
Hearing this, Jun Yining nearly cried with joy. Finally, finally someone was willing to believe him!
Jun Yining crossed his arms and looked down at Liu Sanye. “Hear that? Senior Sister believes me. Even if you don’t believe me, you should believe her.”
Liu Sanye sighed. It seemed she had to leave temporarily. She said to Jun Yining, “Fine, I’ll go with you to Green Wood Peak. But wait a moment, I need to say a few words to Tongtong.”
She pulled Tongtong to the side and fished a white bottle out of her storage bag. Inside was the Foundation Establishment Pill.
Liu Sanye pressed the pill into Bai Tong’s hand and said, “Take this. Reach Foundation Establishment quickly. Once you do, we can go out on sect missions together.”
“You’re giving it to me? What about you?”
Liu Sanye laughed. “I don’t need a pill. I’m a Top-tier Heavenly Spiritual Root, remember?”
Bai Tong looked at the pill in her hand, her expression turning a bit dim.
Knowing Bai Tong was unhappy, Liu Sanye quickly comforted her. “Don’t worry, I’ll sneak out to see you often.”
“Besides,” Liu Sanye pulled out her Soul Tool, “we can still talk through this.”
Seeing the Soul Tool, Bai Tong pulled hers out as well. The two seals together looked like two soaring cranes. Only then did a smile appear on Bai Tong’s face as she softly replied, “Okay.”
Then she looked up at Liu Sanye. “I will cultivate hard and reach Foundation Establishment quickly. You have to be fast too.”
Liu Sanye patted her chest and promised, “Don’t worry! To go on missions with you sooner, I’ll put in twelve times the effort to cultivate!”
She added, “Once we both reach Foundation Establishment, we’ll take our first mission to the South. That way we can pick the Mandui Fruit for Er Cao. Then you won’t owe him anything anymore.”
Bai Tong was delighted. “You’re going to the South with me?”
Liu Sanye said on the surface, “Of course! We’re best friends; we have to do everything together.” In her heart, she thought: The Third Male Lead appears in the South; I have to keep an eye out!
Bai Tong’s eyes sparkled with a smile. “Okay.”
To spend more time with Bai Tong, Liu Sanye used her persistence to convince Xun Qiu not to rush off. Seeing that the argument between Lin Yuan and Fang Shi wouldn’t end anytime soon, Xun Qiu agreed to Liu Sanye’s plea.
Convincing Xun Qiu was the easy part; Jun Yining was naturally someone who loved to play, and Feng Zhu hadn’t given him a hard deadline. It didn’t matter when he brought Liu Sanye back.
“Senior Brother Yining, you don’t mind if we play here for a bit before leaving, right?”
Jun Yining waved his hands. “I don’t mind at all.” He wanted to play more himself.
Then Liu Sanye ran off with Bai Tong. Instead of gorging themselves at the celebration banquet, they found a quiet corner to study their Soul Tools.
Liu Sanye opened hers in front of Bai Tong. A light screen appeared, showing Bai Tong’s image. Liu Sanye said to the image, “Can you hear me?”
Bai Tong, standing nearby, smiled and replied, “I can.”
Liu Sanye’s smile was mischievous. “Then we’ll talk like this from now on. It’ll be like we’re still living together.”
Bai Tong nodded, then said to the screen, “Even though you won’t be coming back to stay, I’ll still clean your bed every day.”
Liu Sanye let out a long sigh. “Huh? That’s too much work! You should use that cleaning time for cultivation.”
Bai Tong replied with a smile, “It’s fine. It won’t take long.”
The two played their “conversation game” for a while until the people at the celebration banquet began to disperse. Jun Yining and Xun Qiu eventually led the two girls away. Before parting, Sanye said to Bai Tong, “Cultivate hard and wait for me to return.”
Bai Tong replied, “Mhm. You too.”
After saying goodbye to Bai Tong, Liu Sanye sat on the celestial crane, sighing deeply. She sighed so much that even Jun Yining couldn’t stand it. “I say, why are you two acting like this is a final parting of life and death?”
Liu Sanye shook her head, her chubby face full of the weight of the world. “You wouldn’t understand.”
Jun Yining: “…”
On Liu Sanye’s first day at Green Wood Peak, Jun Yining arranged a super luxurious cave dwelling for her!
Outside the dwelling was a barrier to keep intruders out. Inside the barrier were all kinds of celestial plants, spirit herbs, and rare beasts. There were spirit rabbits running on the ground, spirit sparrows flying in the sky, and spirit fish swimming in the water. In the pond in front of the courtyard, three celestial cranes were frolicking.
Liu Sanye marveled at the luxurious cave before her, looking like a wild person stepping out of the deep forest. She trotted into the interior: a crystal glass bed, a full-length mirror, pearl curtains, a landscape screen, a sea-of-clouds bonsai…
What was even more magical was that after Liu Sanye passed through the full-length mirror, she appeared on the surface of the lotus pond in the courtyard. She stepped onto the water, yet she didn’t fall through; it was like standing on a mirror that reflected her whole body. When she stomped her feet, she could hear “hollow” sounds from the water.
After she took two steps on the mirror surface, green vines stretched out from all directions. The vines spontaneously wove themselves into a chair and a table before her. Dazed, Liu Sanye walked over and sat on the vine chair. The vines even thoughtfully brewed tea for her to enjoy.
Everything before her was like a dream. Liu Sanye had no thoughts other than pure wonder.
Jun Yining said, “Familiarize yourself with the environment first. I’ll come back tomorrow to take you to see Master.”
With that, he left the barrier. Liu Sanye reached out, but he was gone before she could even stop him.
Once Jun Yining was gone, Liu Sanye looked at the surrounding lotus pond and fell into deep thought. How was she supposed to get back to shore…
As soon as the thought occurred to her, a lotus-shaped boat floated over. Liu Sanye stepped onto the boat somewhat dubiously, and it immediately carried her back to the shore.
Liu Sanye was thrilled and immediately opened her Soul Tool to report to Bai Tong: “Tongtong, this new place is absolutely amazing!” Before Bai Tong could even reply, she started rattling off details.
She showed Bai Tong the dwelling and introduced everything, running inside to stand before the mirror. “It’s this mirror! As soon as I entered, I was standing on the water in the courtyard…”
Liu Sanye continued with a long stream of chatter, and surprisingly, Bai Tong listened with great interest.
The two talked and laughed until nightfall, only turning off the Soul Tool screens after saying goodnight to each other.
