A Female Lead Wants a Lifelong Union With Me (Quick Transmigration) - Chapter 26
On the tenth day of the month, a violent gale arose, whipping up sand and dust for thousands of miles.
It was said that on that day, people witnessed an anomaly not seen in a hundred years. Dozens of cultivators flew through the layers of clouds on their swords, looking dashing and majestic, like streaks of startled swans across the sky.
Though it was only a fleeting moment, some sharp-eyed onlookers noticed a woman among the group of immortals. She was bound, restrained by several people with ropes; her robes fluttered wildly and her hair was a tangled mess. By the time they tried to get a better look, the immortals had already drifted far into the distance.
“Father,” a child in the crowd asked, his voice full of innocence. “Who was that sister who was tied up?”
“A bad person, likely,” the man called “Father” smiled, picking up the child and walking slowly toward their house. “She must have committed some unpardonable sin for the immortals to bind her and take her back for punishment.”
“I see…” The child nodded, clutching the corner of his clothes and falling silent.
He knew he should believe his father’s words—believe that the beautiful sister was a villain. But whenever he recalled her pursed lips and stubborn eyes, he found it hard to categorize her as a “bad person.” Lost in thought, he let out a soft sigh and looked up toward the direction where the immortals had vanished.
At that exact moment, a warm droplet fell from the sky, splashing right onto the tip of his nose. The child froze, wiped it off, and held it before his eyes, only to find it was a bead of blood.
Was it… from that pretty sister?
His mother had once told him that good people always think of others, love to help, and cannot bear to see someone suffer even a hint of grievance or fall into a shred of danger. Yet that sister was bleeding, and those so-called immortals remained utterly indifferent. Surely… surely they weren’t necessarily good people either.
The child paused, leaning against the man’s shoulder, and spoke no more.
Lin Ruoxue was bound by specialized ropes, unable to move an inch. That day, she had been ambushed by these bastards; not only was she heavily injured, but she had lost a significant amount of internal energy. Now, her strength was failing her.
But in her heart, there was at least a sliver of relief. She was glad she had hardened her heart and entrusted Lin Yueyue to send An He away. Otherwise, the one injured right now might have been her…
Lin Ruoxue sighed softly at the thought. She didn’t know if she could survive this ordeal. If she were truly destined to die here, she would use her final breath to command her subordinates to release An He and give her back her freedom.
That way, An He would probably be happy. At least she wouldn’t be pestered by her anymore.
Actually, An He never liked me at all, Lin Ruoxue knew. Thinking of this, a dull ache throbbed in her heart—more painful than any of the wounds on her body.
The group behind her saw her pained expression. Fearing she might die on the way, they slapped her face with the hilts of their swords, muttering insults.
“Get lost.” Lin Ruoxue struggled to dodge the hilt, her eyes flashing with a thick, murderous intent.
“Oh, don’t look at us like that,” Zhou Tage chimed in from the side, laughing with a playful tone. “While it’s true we’re going to kill you, in the end, this is a good thing for you.”
“Once you die, you can be reincarnated as a human in your next life.” He smiled, gesturing for the group to stop on a mountain cliff. “Then you can practice cultivation just like us. You’ll be immortal, revered by thousands, and have anything you desire. How free and easy.”
“Exactly!” someone nearby chimed in. “Who knows, maybe we’ll even be fellow disciples then! Right?”
As soon as he finished, the surrounding group burst into laughter.
Watching their smiles and listening to their nonsense, a fire of rage burned within Lin Ruoxue. The moment they set her down, she gritted her teeth and rapidly performed a hand seal.
Instantly, a sword flew up following her movements, streaking toward one of the men. Caught off guard, the man was pierced through the chest. He spat out a mouthful of dark blood and died on the spot.
“Heh.” Watching the blood gush from the man, Lin Ruoxue curled her lips into a contemptuous smile.
“Quick!” Seeing this, the others rushed forward to restrain her again, shoving and dragging her toward a wooden stake.
They bound Lin Ruoxue tightly to the stake with practiced movements. The wood was a deep crimson, and up close, one could smell a metallic scent of blood; it seemed many souls had already perished here. The group showed no sign of reverence; they happily finished tying her up before retreating to stand beside Zhou Tage.
“Shall we begin?” someone asked.
“Fine.” Zhou Tage nodded. Just as he was about to draw his sword, his expression suddenly shifted. “Wait, wait a moment. I feel… uncomfortable. My stomach hurts…”
“What? You’re dropping the ball at a critical moment?” The group sighed with dissatisfaction, waving him off irritably. “Go settle it nearby then. We’ll wait for you.”
“Yes, alright.” Zhou Tage nodded repeatedly, clutching his stomach as he trotted off into the woods.
Although the weather had turned cold recently, the midday sun was still incredibly intense. The group stood there with arms crossed, waiting for Zhou Tage to return, and before they knew it, they were dripping with sweat.
“Why isn’t he back yet?” After an unknown amount of time, someone finally spoke up, brow furrowed. “That was enough time for three trips to the latrine.”
“Don’t know…” several others replied, shaking their heads.
“Could he have run off?” the first person suddenly asked.
“No way!” The group burst into laughter at the suggestion. “How is that possible? He’s not stupid! Why would he walk away from a thousand-year-old fox demon? Unless he found a better target and didn’t tell us, sneaking off to keep it for himself…”
Although they weren’t standing very close to Lin Ruoxue, she heard every single word they said.
A better target…
She froze, chewing on the phrase, her heart sinking with growing unease. She knew Zhou Tage was a cunning man; it was entirely possible he would do exactly what his sect brothers suggested.
Perhaps she was just the bait to distract this group, while his true goal was to monopolize that “better target.” If that were the case, who could that target be?
Could it be… her Xixi?
At that thought, Lin Ruoxue broke into a cold sweat. Her brow furrowed tightly, and her entire body began to tremble slightly.
The group in the distance continued to chat and laugh, completely oblivious to her abnormality. And they certainly didn’t notice that when Lin Ruoxue looked up, her beautiful eyes had turned a haunting shade of crimson.
Even the wind around them had begun to shift, unnoticed.
