A Female Lead Wants a Lifelong Union With Me (Quick Transmigration) - Chapter 28
That night, after consuming wild fruits picked from the mountains, Zhou Tage lit a fire and fell asleep wrapped in his bear skin.
An He hadn’t eaten anything. Aside from the pile of leaves Zhou Tage had forced down her throat during the day, her stomach was in knots. The pain was so intense she couldn’t help but grit her teeth, fine beads of cold sweat seeping from her forehead.
“Are you okay?!” The System, worried about her state, hurriedly asked.
“I’m fine,” An He replied, shaking her head gently. “It’s an old problem. It flares up if I don’t eat. It’ll pass in a while.”
“Mhm…” Hearing this, the System felt a bit more at ease.
An He endured it for a while until the stomach pain finally began to subside. She let out a sigh, and as she came back to her senses, she realized her back was soaked through—as if she’d been fished out of a river. A gust of wind sent a piercing chill straight to her bones.
Zhou Tage, on the other hand, was sleeping quite comfortably. The firelight flickered across him; he looked incredibly cozy and at peace. Watching him, An He felt a desperate urge to pounce and kill him right then and there, but she was bound tight by the specialized ropes and couldn’t move at all.
Time trickled forward into the late hours of the night.
Leaning against the long stone slab, An He gradually felt drowsiness wash over her. Her eyes grew heavy and her thoughts began to drift. But a split second before she fell asleep, a wave of pain struck again—sudden, violent, and jarringly sharp.
This time, the pain wasn’t in her stomach; it came from her entire body.
It was far more agonizing than anything before. An He bit her lip until it bled just to keep from screaming. Her face turned as white as a sheet, drained of all color by the sheer intensity of the suffering.
The System seemed to be saying something in her mind, but An He couldn’t hear a thing. The sensation was like being flayed alive—skin and flesh slowly separating, beads of blood bursting forth and staining the ground red.
Eventually, An He simply blacked out from the pain.
When Zhou Tage woke up, he saw that An He was still sleeping.
He got up and slapped her face a few times. Seeing that she didn’t wake, he didn’t force it, intending instead to head out and gather more leaves to feed her.
The weather wasn’t great today. A heavy fog had rolled in, reducing visibility to a narrow radius. Zhou Tage frowned, spat on the ground, and wrapped his clothes tighter, grumbling as he walked forward.
The distance from the cave mouth to the forest wasn’t long—only a few steps. But within that short distance, he felt a flicker of something unusual.
Behind him… there were footsteps.
They were very light. On a normal day, they would have been hard to notice, but in the dead silence of the morning, the sound was exceptionally clear. Zhou Tage broke into a cold sweat. He whipped out his sword and spun around, but saw nothing except the vast, white fog.
“Who’s there?!” He paused and roared into the mist, his eyes fierce. “Come out if you have the guts! What kind of hero hides in the shadows?!”
The moment he finished speaking, a low chuckle drifted from the mist. Then, something came rolling out. Zhou Tage froze, looking down to see that it was a human head!
It was the head of his fellow junior disciple!
Zhou Tage recoiled, stumbling back a few steps in a reflex.
“If you’re such a ‘hero,’ then how did they end up like this?” The figure in the mist finally spoke. The voice was melodious yet familiar—Zhou Tage recognized it instantly as the fox demon they had captured earlier.
But he couldn’t understand how she could have escaped from his fellow disciples. She wasn’t dead… she wasn’t dead…
Is she… back for revenge?
Realizing this, Zhou Tage spun around, intending to bolt into the forest. But in the next second, Lin Ruoxue charged through the fog on the wind, her sword pointed straight at his heart. Zhou Tage gritted his teeth and dodged, narrowly avoiding her strike so it missed his vitals.
In that instant, he saw her clearly.
Lin Ruoxue was covered in blood. Her face was smeared with dried gore, and her body was riddled with wounds. Even her eyes had changed—they were a haunting crimson, like a specter.
Despite the danger, Zhou Tage’s mind raced with calculations. He suspected the fox might be bluffing. Even if she was powerful and currently in a frenzied state—which would certainly spike her spiritual and internal energy—she had just killed so many people. Those were cultivators; killing them must have drained a massive portion of her stamina.
Combined with her injuries, he might be able to take her down easily. Slaying a demon and this fox demon in one go… wouldn’t that be a beautiful outcome?
With that thought, Zhou Tage calmed down and began searching for an opening to counterattack.
But just then, another strange sound reached his ears. It was a roar, and the ground beneath his feet began to tremble, bringing with it an overwhelming sense of pressure.
Ren Xixi!
The thought flashed through his mind. Almost instinctively, he dodged another of Lin Ruoxue’s attacks and began running back toward the cave like a madman, laughing hysterically as he went.
Before he could reach the entrance, the cave suddenly collapsed before his eyes. The airflow from the falling rocks cleared much of the fog, and a figure gradually emerged.
The silhouette looked somewhat distorted, swaying unsteadily as it walked as if it might collapse at any moment. But those eyes burned with an incredibly exhilarated light, and the corners of the mouth were curled upward in a wide grin.
“Xixi!” Lin Ruoxue recognized her. She gritted her teeth, desperate to get to her side.
But she didn’t touch An He. Instead, she was blasted back by a surge of energy.
An He had just turned into a demon. Her consciousness was a blur, unable to distinguish between reality and illusion. Yet, in that chaos, she saw Lin Ruoxue’s shadow. To avoid hurting her, An He had no choice but to push her away, wanting Lin Ruoxue to stay far from her.
Then, she looked up at Zhou Tage and laughed uncontrollably.
“I’ve become a demon,” she shouted, tears streaming from the corners of her eyes. “Is this what you wanted?! Didn’t you want to kill me? Come on! Come on!”
“Ah, no.” Before Zhou Tage could respond, An He shook her head, her stance wobbling. “I can’t let you kill me. I still have to… go save Lin Ruoxue.”
With those words, she smiled and suddenly lunged forward. “So, stand there and wait. I’m coming.”
“I’m coming to kill you.”
