A Fishing-Type Omega Always Wants to Possess Me - Chapter 18
The moment the manager entered the office and looked directly at her, Yu Mianzhou understood who had sent her.
She spent every day busy with work and had never entered any kind of prize drawing.
But when she glanced aside and saw the expectant looks on everyone else’s faces, she had to admit that Jiang Zhi’s move had indeed made it difficult for her to refuse.
Everyone had worked hard all week and had been looking forward to relaxing at the performance tonight.
As their boss, Yu Mianzhou could not bring herself to say no.
Besides, Jiang Zhi would be occupied with performing tonight. She probably would not be able to do anything.
After weighing the matter for several seconds, Yu Mianzhou tapped her fingertips against the desk and finally said:
“I’m free.”
When Joyce returned to the company after finishing her work, she learned that their tickets had suddenly been upgraded to SVIP—and, more importantly, that Yu Mianzhou was going to Jiang Zhi’s concert as well.
For a moment, she could not process it.
Only after the car door closed did Joyce look at Yu Mianzhou’s bloodless profile and ask quietly:
“You’re really going? But you and Jiang Zhi…”
“I’ll accompany you to exchange the tickets,” Yu Mianzhou said. “Once that’s done, I’ll come back.”
After speaking, she leaned back against the seat and closed her eyes.
Perhaps it was because she had been working without rest these past several days, but her temples throbbed repeatedly, making the area behind her eyes ache.
The car soon arrived at the theater.
The manager was already waiting at the entrance with a flawless smile. She personally led the group inside.
The interior of the theater was vast and empty. Even the light from the crystal chandeliers seemed somewhat cold and desolate.
The manager glanced at her watch and smiled.
“There are still two hours before the performance begins. The orchestra is completing its final rehearsal backstage. You may go and watch if you’re interested.”
At those words, Ling Yuetao and the others’ eyes lit up. They immediately headed backstage together.
Yu Mianzhou remained where she was.
“Where do we exchange the tickets?”
The manager was especially respectful toward her.
“There’s no need to rush, Miss Yu. You can watch the rehearsal first. When the performance is about to begin, someone will naturally come to verify your information.”
Yu Mianzhou had little patience left and was about to say something else.
But the manager suddenly smiled, and something different entered her expression.
“Tonight’s final piece is the one that made the Eldest Young Miss famous across the internet on the evening of that public vote. Don’t you want to see what she looks like while performing onstage?”
This woman could not even be bothered to maintain the act anymore.
The manager continued:
“You probably haven’t seen the Eldest Young Miss onstage before.”
Her words made Yu Mianzhou lose focus for an instant.
She had seen Jiang Zhi in all kinds of states.
Happy, angry, overwhelmed by desire, sharp and arrogant…
The only Jiang Zhi she had never seen was the one standing onstage beneath the gaze of thousands.
The manager immediately noticed Yu Mianzhou’s momentary distraction, brief though it was.
“Two hours will pass very quickly. Someone will come for you soon, so please look around for the time being, Miss Yu.”
After speaking, she bowed and hurriedly turned away.
Once she left, Yu Mianzhou glanced at Lunn and the others’ excited figures in the backstage area.
In the end, she did not follow them. Instead, she found a seat in a quiet corner.
An unknown amount of time later, Ling Yuetao, Joyce, and the others returned, still reluctant to leave.
“Mianzhou, why didn’t you come watch? You missed out!”
“Exactly! It was only a rehearsal, but it was still incredibly impressive!”
Yu Mianzhou’s gaze moved across the proposal displayed on her phone. She did not look up.
“I wouldn’t understand it.”
She had always been like this—consumed by her work and indifferent to nearly everything outside it.
Like a tireless machine.
Everyone had long since grown accustomed to it.
As they continued chatting, Lunn suddenly sighed.
“It’s only a shame Jiang Zhi wasn’t at the rehearsal. It would’ve been even better if she had been there. Hearing the goddess perform twice in one day—I’d wake up laughing from my dreams tonight!”
“You should be satisfied that we’ll see Jiang Zhi perform at all!” Ling Yuetao suddenly said.
She looked around, then lowered her voice and leaned closer with a mysterious expression.
“I went to the restroom just now and overheard an enormous piece of gossip!”
Lunn immediately grew curious.
“What gossip?”
“Apparently…”
Ling Yuetao could not conceal the excitement in her voice.
“Jiang Zhi is getting married, and this will be her final performance before taking marriage leave! We’ve hit the jackpot with this concert!”
Yu Mianzhou’s finger paused on the phone screen.
Lunn sounded wounded and disbelieving.
“Married? No! Oh my God, how was there not even the slightest news about it? Who is Zhizhi marrying?”
“Exactly!” Ling Yuetao agreed. “They hid it far too well. Even the paparazzi couldn’t uncover anything. Unfortunately, I didn’t hear who the person is. If this news gets out, the internet is going to explode…”
Joyce, who had been listening quietly at the side, twisted her fingers tightly into her sleeves.
She was dying of impatience!
She knew who it was!
Not only had she met Gu Wanlan, she had eaten with both of them, and she was even going to attend Zhizhi’s wedding with Yu Mianzhou!
Knowing so much gossip and being unable to say a word was unbearable!
Afraid that she might accidentally let something slip, Joyce hurried over to Yu Mianzhou and searched for another subject to distract herself.
“Why is your necktie loose? Let me fix it for you.”
She reached out, only to realize that Yu Mianzhou’s body had become rigid at some point.
“Mianzhou?”
Joyce held the tie between her fingers.
Yu Mianzhou’s gaze seemed fixed on some distant point. She did not answer.
That damp, clinging sensation had returned.
The unmistakable feeling of being watched.
It was as though something had wrapped itself around her neck and dragged her entire body down onto slick green moss.
Yu Mianzhou followed the gaze.
At the far end of the corridor, Jiang Zhi had appeared without anyone noticing.
She was staring fixedly at Yu Mianzhou’s chest.
It was impossible to tell whether she was looking at the necktie or at the hand holding it.
She seemed to have only just arrived at the theater and had not yet changed into her performance clothes. She wore nothing more than a simple floral dress.
Sensing Yu Mianzhou’s gaze, Jiang Zhi’s eyes slowly moved upward at an almost unnaturally measured pace until they met hers.
Then the corner of her lips lifted ever so slightly.
They had not seen each other in several days.
Her smile remained dazzling and beautiful, yet cold and dangerous.
It inevitably brought to mind some kind of demoness that fed upon human vitality.
Jiang Zhi raised one leg and began walking toward them.
Yu Mianzhou’s pupils contracted almost imperceptibly.
Her eyelids lowered as she blocked Joyce’s hand.
“Leave it.”
But in the next instant, while still more than ten meters away, Jiang Zhi changed direction and walked straight into a dressing room along another corridor.
Not everyone was so sensitive to being watched.
Joyce had failed to notice everything that had just happened.
She released the necktie and asked in confusion:
“What’s wrong?”
The tight line of Yu Mianzhou’s lips gradually relaxed.
“Nothing. It feels uncomfortable when it’s tied too tightly.”
Joyce had no choice but to let the matter go.
Yu Mianzhou should have felt relieved.
Yet when she lowered her head again, she could not read a single word of the project proposal on her phone.
Fortunately, a staff member soon arrived to escort them to their seats.
Only when they reached the destination did they discover that they had been given a private box on the second floor with the finest view in the theater.
Not only could they clearly see the entire stage from an exceptional angle, but the acoustics were also superb.
Seeing such excellent seats, Lunn and the others surrounded Yu Mianzhou and thanked her repeatedly.
Yu Mianzhou pressed the staff member who had guided them there.
“When will you verify my information?”
The staff member replied, “Someone will be here immediately. Please wait.”
But after leaving the private box, no one returned.
An indescribable restlessness rose in Yu Mianzhou’s heart.
Her brow had been twitching continuously since earlier.
Although Jiang Zhi had done nothing just now, Yu Mianzhou understood her.
She was arrogant and intensely possessive.
She had never been the kind of person who was this easy to deal with.
Especially after Yu Mianzhou had moved out for so many days.
With that suspicion in mind, she turned toward Joyce and began giving her instructions.
“If I leave later and don’t send you a message within half an hour, you must come and find—”
Before she could finish, the host had already walked onto the stage.
The lights gathered around them as they began introducing that evening’s performance.
The moment the audience heard that the concert was about to begin, thunderous applause erupted below.
Cheers surged like an overwhelming tide, completely drowning the final words of Yu Mianzhou’s warning beneath the deafening roar.
