A Hidden Marriage Daily Life with the Film Empress O - Chapter 9
Bai Qiu opened the door with a head of messy hair. She was still wearing pajamas printed with little bears, a pair of black-framed glasses she had grabbed at the last minute perched on her nose. In her hand, she carried a half-open medical kit, and her face was full of the impatience of someone who had been forced to work overtime.
Being dragged out of bed in the middle of the night was really not a pleasant feeling. It was not until she stepped into the living room and saw the person sitting on the sofa that her resentment disappeared completely.
Chang Qingyuan sat quietly in the corner of the sofa, her back lightly sunk into the sofa cushion.
Even covered in wounds, she still carried a naturally cold and reserved air.
When Chang Qingyuan saw Bai Qiu, she did not rush to speak. She only tilted her head slightly and glanced very lightly in the direction of the bedroom. Her voice was kept very low, carrying the calmness that came after having just experienced a storm.
“She just fell asleep. Don’t wake her.”
The light fell on her face, outlining features so exquisite they almost did not seem real.
There were still clear red marks on one side of the Alpha’s cheek, like a scratch carelessly left on fine white porcelain. The bruising at the corner of her eye was shocking to look at, making her already beautiful eyes appear even more wet and glistening.
The bloodstains had long since dried and darkened, unexpectedly adding a broken sort of charm. She was wearing an oversized shirt, its sleeves casually rolled up to her forearms.
Large patches of dark purple bruises spread over her exposed arms and calves, standing out against skin so pale it was almost translucent. Like ink plum blossoms blooming in snow, they were startling to the eye, yet strangely carried a heart-stopping beauty, like something that had been cruelly mistreated.
“My arm seems to have been broken by her…”
Chang Qingyuan watched Bai Qiu open the medical kit. Her tone was as calm as if she were talking about the weather, as though the pain in her body had nothing to do with her. Only the slight furrow of her brows revealed a trace of endurance.
The hand Bai Qiu had just placed on her arm paused. She clicked her tongue.
“Third Miss really hit you too hard. In my opinion, you should divorce her as soon as possible.”
She lowered her voice, carrying a hint of frustration at Chang Qingyuan for failing to live up to expectations.
“From what I can see, Third Miss’s mania is getting worse and worse… The people of the Si Bei family are simply a bunch of lunatics.”
She was the private doctor sent by the Si Bei family to follow Third Miss. If not for the generous salary, and the fact that Si Beimuo was a public figure who rarely needed her to step in, she would have quit long ago.
Most of the time, she was actually “taking care of” the person in front of her—this Alpha whom Si Beimuo held in the palm of her hand, yet hurt again and again.
Bai Qiu raised her eyes and carefully studied Chang Qingyuan under the dim light.
A high nose bridge, clear lip lines, even a jawline so delicate it seemed sculpted. She was clearly an Alpha with a highly aggressive aura, yet she had a face as clean and translucent as a deity’s, beautiful in an extremely deceptive way.
Bai Qiu truly could not understand how such a cold, otherworldly beauty had somehow become entangled with Third Miss, who had a violent temper and a tendency toward domestic abuse.
“Heh…”
Chang Qingyuan suddenly laughed softly.
“You think I’m any good myself?”
As she spoke, she calmly spread out her arm and let Bai Qiu apply ointment to the bruises. Her movements carried an almost indulgent obedience.
“Tsk. You can still laugh?”
Bai Qiu gave her a speechless glare, only to see the curve of Chang Qingyuan’s lips deepen. Those beautiful eyes shone astonishingly under the light, the corners slightly lifted, as if hiding an abyss, captivating enough to steal one’s soul.
Bai Qiu suddenly understood why Si Beimuo loved her to the point of obsession. This person only needed to sit there, and it was enough to make someone willingly drown in her eyes.
“Hey, let me remind you of something.”
Bai Qiu paused with the medicated wine on her hand, her tone turning more serious.
“Recently, Eldest Miss came back. She has never liked Third Miss, and the family head dotes on the third daughter the most. At a time like this, be careful that Eldest Miss doesn’t use the two of you as her target.”
She was only a small doctor and could not interfere in these wealthy family power struggles. In the end, she could only sigh and warn her.
“None of the people in the Si Bei family are easy to deal with.”
“Mm.”
Chang Qingyuan answered. At some point, tears had gathered at the corners of her eyes. Under the light, they glimmered with a fine silver sheen, like shattered stars, making it hard to tell whether they came from pain or something else.
“Actually, I’ve always been curious.”
As Bai Qiu used a cotton swab to clean the dried blood at the corner of her mouth, she could not help asking,
“Do you actually love Third Miss or not?”
