A Scumbag Alpha Gets the Simp’s Script - Chapter 14
Yu Jinzhao had no idea what was happening in the room next door. After her shower, she lay in bed, her body exhausted but her mind hyperactive, refusing to let her sleep.
Images flickered through her mind: the first award certificate she won as a child, her mothers taking her out to play, the reckless freedom she shared with her friends…
Frame by frame, scene by scene, they played like a silent film until they merged into the moment she woke up in this world.
She had never seen anyone like her—fragile yet harboring a hidden edge. She had a cold beauty, yet it carried an indescribable allure.
Yu Jinzhao even thought she could catch a whiff of that cold fragrance she’d smelled that first day. Unfortunately, she’d only experienced it once; she hadn’t smelled it since.
“Yu Jinzhao!”
A voice suddenly called her name. Yu Jinzhao started, then realized it was the System. It hadn’t appeared in quite a while.
Inexplicably, a surge of annoyance rose within her. It didn’t show up when she needed it, and now it was popping up—what was the point?
“What do you want?”
The System asked tentatively, “Um, how do you feel about the Female Lead?”
It took a long time for Yu Jinzhao to give an answer: “Beautiful, yet she hasn’t lost her edge.”
What?!
That was it? Were there no other adjectives?
“Um, you know, right? In this world, Alphas and Omegas are natural pairs. They are instinctively attracted to each other.”
Yu Jinzhao nodded. She’d learned that basic common sense within days of arriving.
“You’re an Alpha, and the Female Lead is an Omega. Do you have… any ‘special thoughts’ about her?”
The question was incredibly intrusive. Yu Jinzhao’s expression turned cold instantly. What did it mean, did she have “thoughts” about Pei Daowan?
She may have transmigrated into an Alpha, and she did like women, but that didn’t mean she would fall for just anyone—especially when the question came from the System.
“What exactly are you getting at? Do you want me to like the Female Lead, or are you hoping I won’t?”
The System had expected Yu Jinzhao to shyly deny it or give an embarrassed admission. Instead, she was the complete opposite.
It momentarily glitched. This didn’t fit its data analysis. It had specifically chosen Yu Jinzhao because she was a good person, but also because its analysis suggested she would slowly fall in love with the FL, give her everything, and successfully help her achieve her revenge.
But now, Yu Jinzhao seemed to feel nothing. Where did it go wrong?
“I just mean, the FL is so beautiful and has a decent personality. Don’t you feel your heart racing at all?”
Yu Jinzhao’s expression was candid. “She’s so beautiful that anyone would be moved. I’m human; I’m no exception. But what does that prove? Why don’t you just tell me the real reason you’re appearing now.”
In one sentence, she silenced the System.
Yu Jinzhao had figured it out: this System wasn’t of much practical use. Whenever she actually needed it, it was gone; when she didn’t need it, it popped up to pester her. It was irritating.
“Uh, it’s nothing really. I just wanted to remind you: don’t forget that you can only go back if you do your best to help the FL succeed in her revenge.”
“I don’t need your reminder. I know. You can go now.”
The System felt a massive sense of defeat but tried one last time: “Don’t you have anything else you want to ask me? Especially about the FL?”
Yu Jinzhao’s expression finally softened, losing some of its chill.
“Then tell me: was there any ‘inside story’ regarding the car accident twenty years ago?”
Silence.
The System didn’t dare speak. Without Pei Daowan’s permission, it wouldn’t touch that subject. If it went back and asked Pei Daowan about it, the System had no doubt she would find a way to crush it.
“Heh. Useless.”
At this moment, Yu Jinzhao’s expression was an exact replica of Pei Daowan’s: blatant, undisguised contempt.
“…”
Fine. It was useless. It admitted it.
Although she couldn’t see the System, her intuition told her it had left.
She hadn’t asked that question randomly. The System definitely knew something but refused to talk. It seemed this System held many secrets of its own.
However, she was reasonably certain now: that car accident twenty years ago was definitely suspicious. If it had been clean, the System would have at least given her a brief summary.
This System was interesting. it only talked about trivial matters but clammed up the moment things touched on Pei Daowan’s privacy or key plot points.
Is this System actually here to help me?
Yu Jinzhao was a smart person. Whether in school or work, she had always stood out from the crowd.
The System is problematic.
If so, should she believe what it says? It said it could send her back—but was that a guarantee? What if it was lying?
At that thought, Yu Jinzhao’s sense of crisis spiked. She was still too passive, being led by the nose.
She had to familiarize herself with this world as quickly as possible. As for the accident twenty years ago, she would investigate it herself, and she had to do it without alerting anyone.
Lying in bed, a single beam of moonlight filtered through the gap in the curtains. Yu Jinzhao’s eyes were vacant as she stared at that light, her thoughts racing.
A breakthrough!
She needed a breakthrough—something that could balance the scales between Yu Xincheng and Pei Daowan.
To Pei Daowan, Yu Jinzhao’s only value was her identity as a Yu. She surely wanted something from her. As for Yu Xincheng, she was the only Alpha heir; that was a bit easier to handle.
What does Pei Daowan want to get through me?
In a flash of inspiration, a bold thought occurred to Yu Jinzhao.
Maybe Pei Daowan doesn’t want a divorce at all. Maybe she wants to use me to get close to Yu Xincheng?
Pushing it further… The drugging, the forced marriage—could they have been a ‘convenient’ push for her?
The thought sent a cold shiver down her spine. If that were the case, Pei Daowan’s mind was terrifyingly deep.
She lacked the original soul’s memories, so she couldn’t judge how much the original Yu Jinzhao actually liked Pei Daowan. She only knew from others that the original fell in love at first sight at a banquet and began a relentless pursuit.
Pei Daowan refused several times, but the original never gave up—resorting to stalking, threats, and disrupting her private life until, finally, the drugging occurred.
Yu Jinzhao instinctively touched the back of her neck. Since that hospital stay, she occasionally felt a stinging pain there. It wasn’t intense, but it was impossible to ignore.
She’d need to get that checked out when she had time. And she needed to find out exactly what kind of drug the original soul had used…
For the next several days, Yu Jinzhao worked non-stop. Forget investigating car accidents; she barely had time to eat.
She wanted to master the company environment and the people involved as quickly as possible, which meant spending massive amounts of time and energy. Fortunately, her efforts were paying off. The people at the office were finally replacing their image of a “useless playboy” with something else.
However, Yu Jinzhao felt a bit of regret. She had been so busy leaving early and returning late that she hadn’t seen Pei Daowan for nearly a week. She didn’t even know if Pei Daowan had been coming home.
With a light sigh, Yu Jinzhao closed her computer, tidied her desk, and looked out the window.
Outside, the sun was setting, casting a vast orange-red glow against the glass. Yu Jinzhao narrowed her eyes against the light.
Suddenly, she really wanted to leave work early and see Pei Daowan!
She packed her things immediately. Once the thought of seeing Pei Daowan surfaced, she couldn’t suppress it. Staying at the office made her restless; she desperately wanted to see her.
As for the reason, she didn’t look too deeply into it. When she drove past a flower shop, she even stopped to pick out a bouquet, thinking it might help bridge the gap between them.
Chasing the setting sun, Yu Jinzhao drove a bit faster than usual. She arrived home just as the sun was about to disappear completely.
