A Scumbag Alpha Gets the Simp’s Script - Chapter 27
They had only shared breakfast a few times, yet a wordless tacit understanding had already blossomed. Yu Jinzhao took her breakfast and naturally sat down beside Pei Daowan.
Her movements were practiced, as if she had sat there a thousand times before. Pei Daowan allowed her to draw closer, even permitting her to breach the typical boundaries of social distance.
“These buns are delicious this morning. You should try one. We should give the housekeeper a raise.”
Yu Jinzhao’s eyes crinkled into crescents. These little steamed buns reminded her of the ones from the street stalls back home; the taste was incredibly familiar.
“Slow down. No one’s going to steal them from you.”
Pei Daowan let out a helpless sigh, a trace of indulgence flickering in her eyes. Finding it both childish and amusing, she reached out and gave Yu Jinzhao’s forehead a light flick.
The force wasn’t heavy, but Yu Jinzhao played along perfectly, swaying her head back and forth with an innocent look directed at Pei Daowan.
Pei Daowan leaned back in her chair, her spine slightly curved, left leg crossed over her right, toes hooked lightly. In this relaxed posture, she watched Yu Jinzhao’s antics in silence.
“Good Sister~”
Yu Jinzhao, mouth still stuffed with a bun, used her chopsticks to place a little steamed bun onto Pei Daowan’s plate. She didn’t forget to mumble: “Good Sister, it’s really tasty. Hurry and try it.”
Pei Daowan patiently took a small bite. In truth, she didn’t have any particular preference for food; it didn’t strike her as especially good or bad.
Not as good as what Yu Jinzhao makes, Pei Daowan evaluated internally, though she offered a perfunctory, “It’s alright.”
Yu Jinzhao suddenly noticed that Pei Daowan was dressed unusually today. Normally, she headed out in a simple shirt and blazer, looking every bit the high-intelligence “older sister” type.
Today, she had broken her routine. Instead of a blazer, she wore a long black dress. The cut was exquisite, with fluid lines winding down from her shoulders. Made of silk, it clung naturally to her curves while maintaining an air of elegance and dignity.
If one ignored the bun she was currently eating…
For a moment, Yu Jinzhao felt Pei Daowan was being too indulgent with her—wearing such a dress just to accompany her for steamed buns. If she were dressed like that, she’d insist on a high-end restaurant, otherwise, the outfit would be wasted.
“Are we going to that private banquet tonight?”
“Yes, the one I mentioned last time. You’re coming with me. It’s half-private, half-business; if we dress too formally, it’s hard to relax.”
Yu Jinzhao’s face fell for a second. This meant she wouldn’t be able to have a home-cooked dinner with Pei Daowan tonight. They’d only had two days of it, and now it was being taken away again.
Noticing Yu Jinzhao’s expression, Pei Daowan reached out and tilted her chin up, forcing their eyes to meet. “What, not happy?”
Under Pei Daowan’s gaze, Yu Jinzhao had nowhere to hide and could only nod honestly. She really wasn’t happy. Their time together was limited to mornings and evenings. Mornings were too short—they usually left right after eating—so evenings were their only real time.
Besides, they weren’t always both free in the evenings. She had already planned what to cook tonight; having that little bit of time snatched away made it hard to stay cheerful.
“Do you still want to go together tonight?”
“Hmm?”
Seeing her dazed, a hint of displeasure colored Pei Daowan’s eyes, and her grip on the girl’s chin tightened slightly. “If you don’t want to go, it doesn’t matter.”
“I want to! Of course I want to! Where is it?”
Fearing Pei Daowan would change her mind, Yu Jinzhao rested her entire chin in the woman’s palm, looking at her expectantly.
Pei Daowan couldn’t resist giving her a pinch. Soft and elastic—youthful skin really did feel wonderful.
“It’s near where you’re meeting Li Jin this afternoon. Fuhua Hotel, 17th floor. It starts around 7:00 PM. Message me after you’re done with Li Jin; I’ll pick you up so we can arrive early.”
“Do I need to prepare anything?”
“Not really. Just coming with me is enough.”
“In what capacity am I going?”
Banquets like these were often for networking, so identity mattered. On one hand, Yu Jinzhao didn’t want to use the Yu family name; on the other hand, it seemed that was the only identity she had.
Pei Daowan looked composed, while Yu Jinzhao appeared a bit anxious.
“What, my Alpha isn’t good enough?”
Yu Jinzhao snapped her head up with such force she nearly knocked Pei Daowan over. She scrambled forward clumsily to steady her.
Meeting Pei Daowan’s half-smiling expression, Yu Jinzhao’s brain completely glitched. Her CPU felt fried; a visible flush spread from her neck to her cheeks.
“I…”
“What? Not willing?”
Yu Jinzhao was agitated, wanting to say something but unable to form a complete sentence. She could only shake her head frantically.
After a long while, the blood finally receded a little. Her expression became incredibly serious. “Pei Daowan, I won’t embarrass you.”
“Alright, alright. I know. Now hurry up and eat.”
Pei Daowan narrowed her eyes and suddenly said, “Go change in a bit. Wear the outfit we picked out at the mall that day.”
Yu Jinzhao immediately remembered. When they went shopping for the trip to the ancestral home, Pei Daowan had picked out an outfit for her too. She hadn’t been able to bring herself to wear it then—she didn’t want to face Yu Xincheng in clothes Pei Daowan had chosen—so it had been sitting in her closet.
“Okay.”
Yu Jinzhao responded and abandoned the rest of her meal. The buns were no longer her priority; she bounded up the stairs to change.
In a few minutes, she stood at the corner of the stairs where she greeted her every morning and called out, “Pei Daowan, look at me.”
The suit was a classic charcoal gray—understated and steady, yet possessing a soft luster under the daylight. It matched Yu Jinzhao’s own temperament perfectly. The single-breasted design was simple and elegant; as she raised her hand, three silver buttons on the sleeve sparkled like stars, radiating a cool metallic air. Beneath the gentle demeanor, there was now a hint of sharpness.
A gentleman keeps his talents hidden, waiting for the right moment to act.
Pei Daowan suddenly felt this phrase had found a physical form, especially seeing the refined, noble air Yu Jinzhao exuded in every movement. This was something that could only be cultivated through a good education and long-term cultural immersion. If Yu Jinzhao hadn’t come here, she must have been very popular in her own world.
Yu Jinzhao walked down the stairs step-by-step. The V-shaped collar revealed glimpses of skin as she moved, perfectly elongating her neck and making her look even more elegant and slender.
“Beautiful!”
Before Yu Jinzhao could speak, Pei Daowan praised her first. She rarely complimented anyone, but at this moment, Yu Jinzhao was truly stunning—a beauty that radiated from the inside out.
Yu Jinzhao was actually very suited for suits. With her wide shoulders, narrow waist, and long legs, the formal wear amplified her physical advantages. Since she usually wore casual clothes, seeing her in formal attire genuinely stunned Pei Daowan.
Though their faces were identical, the moment Yu Jinzhao walked over, Pei Daowan perceived their difference.
“Do you know? My first suit in my life was also charcoal gray. I had just started my business and landed a project, so I spent a fortune on a custom suit for a presentation.”
At this, Yu Jinzhao smiled. Back then, she didn’t have much money; she used funds from her family and her own savings. She spent nearly ten thousand on that suit, then wore it everywhere to give speeches and pitch investors, taking the first step of her entrepreneurial journey.
“You should try green next time. Dark green, pine green, olive green… I feel you’d look very vibrant in green.”
Yu Jinzhao acted a bit proud. “I definitely look good in green. I’m not even boasting; back in school, I always picked green clothes. I bought so many that eventually, an entire closet was just green. I had to restrain myself and stop buying it.”
Pei Daowan didn’t argue. Yu Jinzhao’s temperament wasn’t just steady; it held a vigorous inner vitality. Green truly suited her.
“Yu Jinzhao, how old are you?”
“If you’re asking me… I’m 25.”
Pei Daowan’s eyes grew obscure. Her fingers twitched, wanting to reach out, but she pulled back. She whispered, “Twenty-five. How nice. So young.”
“Good Sister, you’re very young too, okay? I’ve always felt women around thirty are the most charming. Experienced, mature, and sophisticated. I couldn’t be more envious.”
Pei Daowan scoffed. “Childish thoughts. Naive.”
Yu Jinzhao didn’t deny it. “Hehe, I really used to feel that way. Back then, I loved sisters who were a few years older than me. Especially the way they were decisive at work and clear-headed and independent in life. I admired them so much.”
“Later, I realized that maturity, responsibility, and capability aren’t necessarily tied to age—they’re tied to character. So I don’t have that obsession anymore.”
Yu Jinzhao boasted slightly: “I’m someone who reflects on myself, you know? Even though as a lesbian, having an ‘older sister’ complex is common, I can adjust that mindset now.”
“Oh? So you’re saying you don’t like ‘sisters’ anymore?”
Yu Jinzhao denied it immediately. “Of course not! While I still have that preference, what I like is more of a ‘feeling’.”
Pei Daowan couldn’t quite understand the feeling of “liking older sisters.” She felt she was somewhat emotionally detached. Since childhood, she hadn’t established a close connection with anyone other than her mothers. She didn’t understand the confusion of adolescence or the sentiments of being in love—she’d had none of it. She once felt that emotions were useless—hard to control and prone to clouding judgment—so she had always kept them at a distance.
As for her feelings toward Yu Jinzhao, she couldn’t label them. Love? Not really; she didn’t think she was capable of that. She found Yu Jinzhao interesting—a presence distinct from everyone else. They were two different types of people. In her darkest times, Yu Jinzhao only thought of pulling herself together and starting over, while Pei Daowan only wanted to bring everyone down with her.
Her inner self was actually dark, twisted, and paranoid, whereas Yu Jinzhao possessed a stubborn vitality. Therefore, there was destined to be no happy ending between them.
“Yu Jinzhao!”
“You…”
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. Finish eating and go to work. I’m heading out. Remember the banquet tonight.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t forget.”
Yu Jinzhao hurriedly stuffed the last bun into her mouth, grabbed a tissue, and rushed out the door. She was about to be late; even though she didn’t have to clock in, she didn’t want to leave people with the image of a useless rich kid who didn’t do real work.
After calling Li Jin to confirm the time and location in the morning, Yu Jinzhao put it out of her mind. Her head was filled only with the banquet tonight. She couldn’t help but wonder who Pei Daowan would introduce her to. Would her friends be there? Her business partners?
Did this mean Pei Daowan recognized her a little and was willing to bring her into her inner circle?
At the thought, Yu Jinzhao felt as if her heart had been struck by a powerful electric current, instantly boiling with excitement. Joy surged through her like a tide, making her feel as if she were walking on clouds. Every cell in her body was cheering.
She began rehearsing what she should say and how she should behave. Most importantly, she had to overturn the original owner’s image as a wasted second-generation heir.
At 2:50 PM, Yu Jinzhao arrived at the designated spot early. Li Jin hadn’t arrived yet. She didn’t play with her phone, but instead picked up a book left in the shop and waited.
After an unknown amount of time, Yu Jinzhao glanced at her watch. It was 3:26 PM. Li Jin was nearly half an hour late, and there had been no message notification. She couldn’t help but feel a bit anxious.
However, she didn’t call or text to rush her. Instead, she opened the chat with her “Special Interest” contact.
