A Scummy Alpha Director is Always Breaking Character - Chapter 6
Chu Yu opened the door, and when she saw Lin Yi standing there, she froze instinctively.
Lin Yi had changed her outfit. She was wearing a short jacket and slim-fit jeans, with her beautiful long hair tied simply at the back of her head. Her swan-like neck was exposed right before Chu Yu’s eyes.
Chu Yu smelled that sweet floral scent again. Such sweet pheromones, such a beautiful person.
Watching the “puppy” stare blankly at her, Lin Yi found it quite amusing. She curled the corners of her lips and asked, “Have you seen enough?”
Chu Yu snapped back to reality. Her face flushed red as she instinctively took a half-step back to clear the path into the room. “Sister,” she managed to say.
Lin Yi walked into the house.
This wasn’t her first time here. She had come once before, shortly after returning to the country. At an industry party, she had met Chu Yu. At that time, Chu Yu hadn’t shown any crazed desire; she had just watched her with a smile, downing glass after glass of wine.
Lin Yi didn’t remember how many drinks she had had herself, only that she had ended up severely intoxicated and dizzy. Chu Yu had driven her here.
The furnishings didn’t seem to have changed much from her memory. On that very sofa in the living room, Chu Yu had pinned her down, pressing hard against her Omega gland, coldly questioning why she had abandoned her.
“I like you, Lin Yi. I like you so much I’m going crazy!”
She had lowered her head, intending to bite Lin Yi’s gland. Lin Yi had raised her hand and slapped Chu Yu, then kicked her in the stomach, flipping over and knocking her to the floor. She had said icily: “I know. That’s why I had to leave three years ago.”
Chu Yu had stared at her coldly.
“Tonight, I’ll pretend nothing happened. If there’s a next time, I’m calling the police.”
The good news was that there was never a “next time” for sexual harassment. The bad news was that after that night, Chu Yu had truly lost her mind.
But Lin Yi wondered if it was just her own delusion. The paranoid, crazed Chu Yu in her memories was hard to connect with the cautious “puppy” currently before her. Though they shared the same face, they felt like two completely different people.
Lin Yi was very aware of this. To be honest, the current Chu Yu was somewhat reminiscent of the version she had first met—the one she knew before going abroad. This was why she was willing to return to a place that had once brought her harm. She wanted to confirm this change.
“Sister, please sit. I’ll go serve the rice,” Chu Yu said.
Lin Yi nodded and walked over to the sofa. A second later, her eyes were drawn to the scattered storyboard manuscripts on the desk. She picked them up and began flipping through them page by page.
When she reached the ending—the girl chasing the sun and the girl sleeping on the mountain—she froze. She had received the script for Eden before, but only the first half. This was the first time she had seen the complete story.
While reading the first half, she never expected the plot to develop this way. And she never imagined that this story… was actually about Chu Yu and herself.
If this movie were made, she could already imagine the media firestorm it would ignite. For years, her relationship with Chu Yu had been tabloid fodder. Speculations about how Chu Yu tormented her, where their hatred began, their past, their future—magazines could write ten thousand words on their love-hate saga. She had never cared because she knew those stories were fake.
But if this movie were made… she felt a sudden twinge of fear. It was like having her inner self stripped bare for everyone to see.
The storyboards for the first half were just fragmented pieces, but the second half skillfully wove them together. All the repressed emotions finally exploded during the sunrise on the mountaintop.
Then there was that beautiful long shot. A catharsis. All the love that was never spoken, all the dreams never chased together, were poured into that continuous shot of running. Catharsis…
Her fingers slowly brushed over the girl sleeping on the mountain. This girl was the Chu Yu she was familiar with. This was the Chu Yu who had once made her heart flutter.
In this drawing, she saw no paranoid madness. Instead, there was a warmth like the sun and a tenderness like a spring breeze.
Everyone is chasing the sun. But how many people realize, a bit too late, that the sun was by their side all along?
Lin Yi pursed her lips.
Suddenly, a scream erupted from the kitchen. She snapped out of her thoughts and hurried over, only to find Chu Yu staring at the rice cooker with a look of utter despair.
“What’s wrong?” Lin Yi asked.
“Sister…” Chu Yu whispered, “I forgot to press the ‘Cook’ button.”
Lin Yi stepped forward. In the cooker, the rice was still rice and the water was still water; it hadn’t turned into a meal at all. She couldn’t help but laugh. She reached out, closed the lid, and pressed the button. “What’s there to scream about? Just cook it now.”
Chu Yu blinked. “Sister, you’re not angry?”
A star’s schedule is incredibly busy, especially for someone of Lin Yi’s stature. Every second is precious. Back when Chu Yu was a script supervisor, she had suffered plenty because directors and actors constantly changed schedules at the last minute. Because of that, her sense of time had become meticulous.
Lin Yi had granted her “dinner time,” so she felt she should have had everything ready before Lin Yi arrived, rather than making her wait for rice to cook.
Lin Yi smiled. “It’s fine. I have plenty of time tonight. Besides, I’m not hungry yet.”
She suddenly stepped closer to Chu Yu.
Chu Yu instinctively backed away, but since she was already near the wall, she quickly felt the cold tiles against her back. There was nowhere left to retreat.
Lin Yi reached out and hooked Chu Yu’s collar. Her beautiful eyes shimmered with a soft, shifting light, like a moving spring stream… Chu Yu felt as if she were drowning in that gaze.
Lin Yi was watching her. Chu Yu could even see her own reflection in Lin Yi’s eyes.
The scent of cherry blossoms swirled around her nose again. Chu Yu had to bite her lower lip hard—until it turned white, until it hurt—just to keep from releasing too many pheromones. It would be incredibly rude to stay in a room with an Omega and lose control of her pheromones.
I want to fix things with the beautiful sister! Not make her hate me more!
The puppy’s determined yet restrained expression made Lin Yi laugh. Chu Yu dazed for a moment, feeling her mental defenses crumbling under that smile.
“Sister,” the puppy murmured, looking at her blankly. “You’re so beautiful.”
She forgot to rein in her pheromones. A cold, woody scent instantly enveloped Lin Yi.
Lin Yi frowned slightly; the scent from Chu Yu made her own breathing quicken a bit. Perhaps teasing an Alpha who was openly in love with her wasn’t the smartest choice.
But teasing her puppy? There was no need to worry. Because her puppy would always put her above everything else.
Sure enough, seeing Lin Yi frown, the puppy snapped out of it, a flash of panic in her eyes. Chu Yu quickly pulled her thoughts back, desperately trying to control her scent. She cursed herself internally: She just smiles at you and you start hallucinating! Chu Yu, you really are a pervert!
“Sister, what were you going to say?” the puppy asked. She was clearly trying to change the subject to end this near-combustible moment.
Lin Yi didn’t intend to let her off. She smiled faintly and whispered, “I said, I’m not hungry yet. What about you? Are you hungry?”
The question was heavy with ambiguity—especially coming from the girl she liked. Chu Yu’s base instinct made her swallow hard.
Lin Yi laughed again.
“I… I’m not hungry either,” Chu Yu stammered.
Just then, the steamer behind them chimed. It was the “Taro Steamed Spare Ribs” Chu Yu had set on a timer.
“I’ll go get the dish!” the puppy blurted out. She was desperate to escape the blushing, heart-pounding atmosphere, but she didn’t notice the robot vacuum working nearby. As she stepped out, she tripped right over it.
“Careful!” Lin Yi cried. She instinctively reached out to steady Chu Yu.
Chu Yu also instinctively grabbed Lin Yi’s arm. It’s a human self-preservation mechanism to grab the nearest thing when falling. Lin Yi wasn’t braced for it; she lost her balance and was pulled down to the floor by Chu Yu.
Chu Yu hit the floor, but she didn’t feel any pain. She seemed to have landed on something very soft. Her face was buried deep in it—a fascinating texture, a warm temperature, a beautiful shape…
The sweet cherry blossom scent flooded her nose again. It seemed even more intense now. The puppy, who had always been defenseless against Lin Yi’s pheromones, took a deep breath instinctively. Immersed in this soft, sweet warmth, she didn’t want to look up.
Then she heard a soft moan from Lin Yi.
“How long are you going to stay buried there?” Lin Yi whispered.
…Buried?
The puppy finally realized where she had landed. Even through the clothing, it was undeniably intimate.
The puppy’s face turned scarlet instantly. She scrambled up, stammering, “Sister, I…”
Lin Yi’s face was also a bit flushed. She pursed her lips and said, “Aren’t you going to pull me up?”
The puppy’s eyes lit up, and she immediately reached for Lin Yi’s hand.
