Accidentally Picked Up a Rich and Amnesiac Alpha (GL) - Chapter 47
The car arrived at the airport. As Yan Qingqi was saying goodbye to Jing Michu before boarding, her phone suddenly rang. Seeing that the call was from Xiaole, Yan Qingqi felt a sudden wave of unease.
“Hello, Xiaole, what…”
“Sister Yan! Hello! Sister Yan!” Xiaole’s voice was frantic. “Sister Song is hurt! She’s been rushed to the hospital!”
Yan Qingqi was startled. “What happened? What’s going on?”
“During the wirework today, Xu Huanyan didn’t hold on properly, and Sister Song fell! Xu Huanyan tried to grab her, but they both twisted, and Sister Song’s head hit the nearby stone pillar. She passed out on the spot. Director Xiao and Sister Sisi rushed her to the hospital. Sister Sisi asked me to call you and tell you to come back immediately.” Xiaole spoke quickly and nervously, her voice trembling.
Yan Qingqi felt all the blood in her body freeze, and her heart stopped beating. “What about Songsong? How is Songsong right now?”
“I don’t know, I’m heading to the hospital now.” Xiaole didn’t dare mention that some crew members were saying it looked very dangerous and she needed emergency resuscitation.
Yan Qingqi: “I’m coming back right now!”
She hung up, and Jing Michu asked, “What happened?”
“Songsong was in an accident! She hit her head and has been sent to the hospital. I have to go see her immediately.”
Jing Michu knew a blow to the head could be serious or minor. “Cousin, you go there first, and let me know the situation right away. Leave the private jet in H City in case you need it. We’ll wait until your wife is safe to discuss anything else!”
“Yes, I know.”
The jet roared, climbing into the sky, carrying the frantic Yan Qingqi towards H City.
Two hours later, as Yan Qingqi got off the plane, her phone was flooded with missed calls and messages from Xiaole, Luo Sisi, and Gong Yue.
Yan Qingqi called Luo Sisi back. The phone was picked up after a single ring.
Luo Sisi’s voice was exploding. “Hello! Yan Qingqi! Where are you?! We’ve been calling you over and over! You wouldn’t answer! We called more than a dozen times! What were you doing?! Don’t you know Sister Song was hurt?!”
Yan Qingqi: “I was on the plane earlier. I just landed in H City.”
Luo Sisi paused. “That fast??”
“What about Songsong? Is Songsong alright?”
Luo Sisi: “Not very good. The hospital in H City checked her and said the location of the bleeding in Sister Song’s brain is very unusual. They recommended we transfer her to the best neurosurgery hospital in the country, Huatian Hospital in B City, to be operated on by a top expert. Director Xiao is contacting the hospital now.”
Yan Qingqi stopped dead in her tracks. “I understand. I’ll handle it. I’ll call you back in a moment!”
Yan Qingqi quickly dialed Jing Michu’s number and explained the situation.
Jing Michu: “Huatian Hospital? I’m calling them right now. Coincidentally, Cousin Huiyu’s supervisor is a top authority in neurosurgery. I’ll handle the connection.”
Yan Qingqi: “I’m flying Songsong straight to B City now.”
Jing Michu: “Good, that’s the fastest way. I’ll make the arrangements.”
Hanging up, Yan Qingqi spoke to the flight crew and immediately called Luo Sisi. “Sister Sisi, I’m at the airport now. Have an ambulance send Songsong to the airport right away. The plane is waiting, and we’re flying to B City immediately.”
Luo Sisi’s voice rose by an octave in shock. “The plane is waiting?!”
“Yes, a private jet. The pilot is filing an emergency flight plan.”
Luo Sisi desperately wanted to ask, Where did you get a private jet? But she knew this was not the time.
“Okay, I’ll inform the hospital immediately. What about the top expert at Huatian Hospital?”
“The connection is being made; it should be fine. You need to come immediately!”
“Okay! Right away! Right away!”
Half an hour later, an ambulance arrived at the tarmac. Luo Sisi accompanied Songsong. Medical personnel quickly loaded the stretcher onto the plane.
Seeing the jet aircraft behind Yan Qingqi, Luo Sisi was dumbfounded again, almost doubting her reality.
“Sister, Sister Yan, where did… where did you get a private jet?”
Yan Qingqi, afraid of startling her, said, “It belongs to a friend; I borrowed it.”
Luo Sisi: “Your friend must be incredibly rich.”
Soon after, the private jet, having completed its preparations, soared into the air again, flying towards B City.
On the plane, Yan Qingqi stayed by the side of the unconscious Song Tingxue, tightly holding her hand while listening to Luo Sisi recount the accident.
“That Xu Huanyan must have been partying hard last night. He’s the male lead, and the script required him to sweep the female lead up and fly down with her. But when Sister Song flew over, Xu Huanyan lost his grip right after he grabbed her, and Sister Song fell.
If he hadn’t panicked, the wire crew would have caught Sister Song. But he was probably scared and urgently tried to grab her. They bumped into each other, the wire crew couldn’t stabilize her, and Sister Song hit the pillar nearby, right on the back of her head.
No one expected this to happen! Sister Song even told me this morning that she might leave early this afternoon to ask for time off to pick you up at the airport.”
Luo Sisi’s eyes turned red as she spoke. “The doctor said Sister Song’s situation is not optimistic. It makes sense, right? If it weren’t dangerous, they wouldn’t have been afraid to perform the surgery and tell us to send her to Huatian.”
Yan Qingqi took several deep, long breaths, suppressing the pain surging in her heart. Seeing Luo Sisi silently shedding tears, she comforted her. “Sister Sisi, don’t worry. Songsong will definitely be fine. I will find the best doctors and the best medical equipment to cure Songsong. If not here, then overseas. I will not let anything happen to Songsong.”
Luo Sisi didn’t know how Yan Qingqi, a small assistant, could make such a guarantee, but she was still willing to believe her.
“Yes, Sister Song will get better.”
In B City, Wen Huiyu, who was in the lab, suddenly received a call from Jing Michu. Wen Huiyu took off her gloves and answered.
“Michu, why are you calling me now? Are you coming to B City to visit? I’m warning you, I’m busy. I’m in the lab.”
Jing Michu: “I’m not looking for you. Sister Shuyan has an emergency. Chen Xianyong is your supervisor, the authority in neurosurgery, right?”
Wen Huiyu paused. “Yes. Why do you need my supervisor?”
Jing Michu was about to say “Sister Shuyan’s wife” but changed her mind halfway. “A very important friend of Sister Shuyan was in an accident and suffered a head injury. It’s quite tricky, and she wants your supervisor to perform the surgery.”
“What is the patient’s current condition?”
“I’m not a medical student; how would I know? The local hospital didn’t dare to treat her and told them to send her directly to Huatian in B City. They specifically said they need your supervisor.”
Wen Huiyu realized the urgency of the condition. Otherwise, the local hospital wouldn’t have directly told them to seek out her supervisor.
“Where is the patient now?”
“Sister Shuyan is with her. They’re on a plane to B City now.”
“My supervisor was supposed to leave for a family vacation today. I don’t know if he’s left yet.”
“Then contact him immediately and stop him.”
“Mhm, I know.” Wen Huiyu suddenly remembered something. “Didn’t you say Sister Shuyan was missing?”
Jing Michu: “Well, um, Cousin was only ‘missing’ for two days. Something happened afterward—it’s a long story. We’ll talk about it later. She’s just been relaxing and vacationing elsewhere and hasn’t returned to S City. Okay, enough talking. Contact your supervisor quickly! It’s a matter of life and death!”
Hanging up, Wen Huiyu paused for a moment, then quickly called her supervisor.
The plane descended, gliding a long distance down the runway, landing steadily at the B City airport.
Huatian Hospital’s ambulance and a dedicated pick-up car were waiting on the tarmac. When Luo Sisi stepped off the plane, she was visibly unsettled by the scene.
Yan Qingqi, however, was composed. “Sister Sisi, I’ll go to the hospital with Songsong first. You can follow in the car.”
“O-Okay.” Luo Sisi couldn’t help but ask, “Is your friend a very important person?”
Yan Qingqi gave a slight smile. “I suppose so.”
Inside the ambulance, Yan Qingqi received a message from Jing Michu: [Sister Huiyu successfully kept Professor Chen. They are waiting at Huatian Hospital.]
Yan Qingqi secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
A second message followed from Jing Michu: [I didn’t tell Sister Huiyu about your relationship with your wife, only that your wife is a good friend. Your memory hasn’t fully recovered, and there are things you don’t know. It’s best to keep it confidential for now.]
Yan Qingqi’s heart stirred. [Okay, I’ll be careful.]
Then came another message. Jing Michu sent a photo of a young woman with fair skin, looking scholarly, cool, and intelligent—the kind of top student you’d expect.
Jing Michu added a caption: This is Cousin Huiyu, just so you recognize her.
The ambulance sirens wailed. More than half an hour later, they arrived at Huatian Hospital, the best neurosurgery hospital in the country.
In the crowd, Wen Huiyu immediately spotted her anxious cousin, who was closely accompanying the patient.
“Sister Shuyan!”
Yan Qingqi paused, looking up. She saw the girl from the photo, dressed in a white coat, her hair tied in a ponytail. She was about the same age as Jing Michu. Compared to Jing Michu’s business-savvy maturity, this girl looked cleaner than in the photo, but her eyes were also more indifferent.
The moment those eyes saw her, they held a warm, familiar affection.
Yan Qingqi nodded to her. “Huiyu.”
“Who is this?” Wen Huiyu’s gaze instinctively turned to the patient on the bed. When she saw the patient’s features, her eyes widened visibly. She stared for a couple of extra seconds, an unbelievable expression on her face. “She, she’s… the celebrity?”
Yan Qingqi nodded, whispering, “Yes, she is Song Tingxue. An accident during filming. She suffered a severe blow to the head.”
Wen Huiyu asked no more questions. She joined the medical staff, pushing Song Tingxue into the examination room, after which the hospital finalized the treatment plan and prepared for surgery.
Outside the operating room, Yan Qingqi tried to persuade Luo Sisi to rest at a hotel, but Luo Sisi refused, insisting on waiting until Sister Song’s surgery was over.
Luo Sisi wore a mask and spoke softly on the phone. When people walked by, she lowered her head to avoid their probing stares.
It was probably Ji Yun calling to check the situation after receiving the news.
“Yes, we’re at Huatian Hospital… She’s still in surgery… A very capable friend of Sister Yan found Professor Chen… Okay, I’ll call you after the surgery.”
Night fell. Wen Huiyu brought dinner for the two of them. Yan Qingqi thanked her and handed a portion to Luo Sisi. “Sister Sisi, please eat something. You haven’t eaten in a long time.”
Luo Sisi: “I can’t. I have no appetite.”
“Eat something, even if you don’t have an appetite.” Yan Qingqi was speaking to Luo Sisi, but also to herself. She opened the meal box, which seemed to be high-end takeout specially ordered by Wen Huiyu—the dishes were exquisite, light, and healthy.
Yan Qingqi ate a few unenthusiastic bites of each dish like a machine. This was her limit. Finished, she drank some water and put the container down.
Wen Huiyu glanced at her cousin. She felt that her cousin’s relationship with Song Tingxue was more than just simple friendship.
She personally flew the person to Huatian on a private jet and waited outside the operating room, forcing herself to eat a few bites to maintain energy even when she had no appetite.
It looks like my cousin intends to personally stay and care for her.
Wen Huiyu pulled her cousin aside. “Sister Shuyan, don’t worry too much. Although Song Tingxue’s situation is dangerous and the surgery is difficult, my supervisor has performed two similar surgeries before. Since my supervisor agreed to operate, he is very confident.” Wen Huiyu checked the time. “Given my supervisor’s skill, if there are no issues, the surgery should be almost over.”
Yan Qingqi was grateful for her cousin’s assistance. “Huiyu, thank you for everything today.”
Wen Huiyu shook her head. “Don’t mention it, Cousin. You don’t have to be formal with me.”
Wen Huiyu wasn’t good with words and didn’t like socializing. After her father passed away, even though her uncle and aunt strongly urged them to stay, her mother still moved out of the Wen family garden. She must have been about eight years old then.
Her mother brought her back to the Wen family garden for festivals. Sometimes her aunt and grandmother also visited them. But less than two years later, her uncle and aunt died in an accident. Her aunt had to care for her other cousins, and visits became rare.
Her connection with the Wen family was not particularly close, perhaps only with Jing Michu.
As the two were talking, the light above the operating room door turned off.
Yan Qingqi hurried over. “Professor Chen, my wi—” She stopped after two words, changing her question. “How is the patient?”
Professor Chen: “The surgery was very successful. The family doesn’t need to worry too much. She’ll be observed in the ICU for a few days. Once she’s past the danger period, she can be transferred to a regular ward.”
A huge weight lifted from Yan Qingqi’s heart. Watching Song Tingxue being pushed into the ICU, she quickly thanked Professor Chen and went to the ICU area, standing outside the window, watching intently.
Songsong lay on the bed. Half of her beautiful hair had been shaved off, and the other half was cut short, almost like a crew cut. Her eyes were closed, and her face was pale with weakness. There was no sign of her waking up.
Wen Huiyu: “Given Miss Song’s condition, she should regain consciousness tomorrow morning at the earliest, or tomorrow evening at the latest.”
Yan Qingqi hummed. Through the glass, she stared directly at the person in the bed, silently repeating, Songsong, please wake up soon, okay? Please wake up soon, okay?
Luo Sisi was persuaded by Yan Qingqi to return to the hotel to rest, but Yan Qingqi herself refused to leave the hospital to rest, insisting on staying outside the ICU.
Wen Huiyu had no choice but to let her cousin be. That night, she emerged from the on-call room several times and saw Yan Qingqi standing by the window, watching inside without blinking, a persistence that bordered on obstinacy.
Wen Huiyu silently sighed and walked away. The next time she came out, her cousin was sitting in a chair outside. She must have been exhausted; her head was nodding up and down like a chicken pecking rice.
“Sister Shuyan, Sister Shuyan…”
Wen Huiyu put a blanket from the on-call room over her. The hospital air conditioning was running high. If her cousin slept like this all night, she would likely catch a cold.
Wen Huiyu gently nudged her. Yan Qingqi woke up instantly. “What is it? Did Songsong wake up?!”
“No, Miss Song hasn’t woken up yet. Sister Shuyan, please use this blanket to sleep.”
Yan Qingqi: “This is yours. What will you use if I take it?” She pushed the blanket back to Wen Huiyu. “Go rest. You’ve been busy all night too. I’m not tired; you don’t have to worry about me.”
In Yan Qingqi’s mind, she was the older cousin and should take care of her younger cousin.
She patted her cousin’s back. “Go to sleep. You have work tomorrow.”
Yan Qingqi later stood by the ICU window. Only when her legs were tired did she sit down briefly.
Early in the morning, Wen Huiyu left the on-call room and saw Yan Qingqi standing still by the ICU window, staring unblinkingly at the person on the bed. The worry, care, and love in her eyes were almost palpable.
“Sister Shuyan, are you okay?”
“Yes, I’m fine.” Yan Qingqi said dreamily, “I feel like Songsong is about to wake up. Omegas are vain; if she sees her hair cut like this, she’s probably going to cry…”
Yan Qingqi suddenly pursed her lips, cutting off the last word.
Wen Huiyu: “It’s fine. Her hair will grow back eventually. Song Tingxue is a stunning beauty.”
“Mhm. How could she ever be ugly? She’s a big star. Even if all her hair were shaved off, she’d still be beautiful.”
Wen Huiyu looked at her cousin. Was this the same poised and calm cousin she knew? Her lips held a gentle smile, and her eyes sparkled.
The question, Are you and Song Tingxue a couple? circled in her chest, but she still didn’t ask it.
“Sister Shuyan, I’m going to get breakfast. Wait for me.”
“Okay. Thank you for your trouble.”
Wen Huiyu smiled slightly. “I told you, don’t be formal.”
Wen Huiyu went to the hospital cafeteria and ordered two portions of porridge, two boiled eggs, and two small steamed buns. Suddenly, her phone rang.
Through the phone, she could hear the sheer ecstasy in her cousin’s voice. “Huiyu, Songsong is awake! Songsong is awake!!”
On the bed, Song Tingxue slowly opened her eyes. Her eyelids felt incredibly heavy. It took a lot of effort and several attempts before she finally opened them.
As she opened her eyes, she felt intense pain in a spot in her brain. She instinctively tried to reach up and touch her head, but she felt weak and had no strength.
Knock, knock, knock…
A faint sound came through. Song Tingxue subconsciously looked up.
Following the direction of the sound, she saw a thick window. Outside the window was a face she knew all too well, smiling at her and tapping on the glass.
In one glance, Song Tingxue saw the pure joy in the person’s eyes—a joy she hadn’t seen in a long time.
“A-Yan,” the name Song Tingxue used all her strength to call out was only a faint whisper.
A nurse in the ICU noticed the movement and walked over to check.
Her view was blocked by the nurse. Yan Qingqi was anxious, wanting to rush inside right now to see her Songsong closely.
A moment later, Wen Huiyu came over. “Sister Shuyan, all of Miss Song’s vitals are normal. She’s recovering well after the surgery.”
Yan Qingqi quickly asked, “Can I go in? I’ll just sit beside her; I won’t move around. Or can Songsong be moved out to a VIP ward?”
Wen Huiyu: “Sister Shuyan, don’t rush. We need to wait for my supervisor to check Miss Song’s condition first. For now, the patient requires close observation, and we also need to prevent infection. It’s safer for Miss Song to stay in the ICU.”
Soon, Luo Sisi arrived at the hospital. Seeing Song Tingxue awake in the ICU, she smiled and waved vigorously at the window.
“That’s great! Sister Song is awake! Sister Yan, do you see? Sister Song is awake! She’s finally safe!”
“Mhm! She’s awake! Songsong is safe!” Yan Qingqi expressed her gratitude. “Sister Sisi, thank you for being so worried this time.”
“Of course! You have no idea how nervous I was; I was terrified! I saw Sister Song hit… Never mind. It’s great that she’s fine now! That’s wonderful!”
More people gradually arrived at the hospital, and the sound of chatter began to filter in from outside. Professor Chen arrived. After reviewing the latest test results and listening to the reports from Wen Huiyu and other medical staff, he asked a few more questions before coming out to speak to Yan Qingqi. “The patient is relatively young, in good physical condition, and has no other diseases. Currently, it seems there are no major issues. But my recommendation is to observe her for two more nights. If her condition is good by the morning after, she can be transferred to the VIP ward at noon.”
Yan Qingqi was overjoyed. “Thank you, Professor Chen! Thank you very much!”
Luo Sisi updated Ji Yun about the situation. Upon hearing that Song Tingxue was awake and safe, Ji Yun finally let go of her anxiety.
The head of the bed was raised. Now, Song Tingxue could see Yan Qingqi outside the window more clearly.
Although she couldn’t go in, seeing Songsong look at her and smile through the glass window made Yan Qingqi feel extremely happy and content.
Luo Sisi saw the two exchanging loving glances through the glass, their eyes practically connecting. She patted Yan Qingqi. “Sister Yan, you stay here and take care of Sister Song. I won’t bother you anymore. I’m heading back to H City. Filming is still going on.”
Yan Qingqi thanked Luo Sisi again. “Sister Sisi, thank you! Songsong and I both thank you.”
Luo Sisi said generously, “Why thank me? That’s Sister Song! My good sister!”
Yan Qingqi: “I’ll have the private jet take you back.”
“No need. I’ll take a commercial flight. Don’t keep bothering your resourceful friend. It’s not good to keep bothering people. If the private jet were yours, I wouldn’t be so polite.”
Yan Qingqi simply smiled. “It’s really no trouble. Sister Sisi, the private jet is very convenient. You probably haven’t slept well. You can catch up on sleep on the plane. When you land, I’ll have Xiao Gong pick you up at the airport.”
Luo Sisi was about to decline, but upon hearing Xiao Gong would pick her up, she immediately agreed. “In that case, okay. Please thank your friend.”
With Songsong awake, Yan Qingqi became even more determined to guard the window outside the ICU. Except for bathroom breaks, she insisted on eating her meals by the window, smiling at Song Tingxue as she ate.
Wen Huiyu just shook her head. Is this still her usually composed and unflappable cousin?
Indeed, people in love are different.
It looks like this celebrity, Song Tingxue, might become her cousin-in-law.
After some persuasion from Wen Huiyu, Yan Qingqi finally went to the VIP ward to take a shower. Before leaving, she insisted on writing on a piece of paper, “I’m going to take a shower. I’ll be back soon.” She held it up to the glass for Songsong to see. Only when Songsong smiled and nodded did she leave.
Wen Huiyu shook her head again internally. It was easy to imagine that her cousin would be a hundred percent a wife-doting maniac in the future.
In S City, Jing Michu was greatly relieved to hear that Song Tingxue was safely awake and recovering well. She immediately said, “Cousin, do you want to stay at your villa in B City? I’ll pick one, have people clean it up, and arrange everything for you.”
Yan Qingqi was no longer surprised that she had a mansion in B City. “No need. I’ll stay in the hospital’s VIP ward. The facilities are good there—bedroom, living room, kitchen, activity room. I’ll just be admitted with Songsong.”
Jing Michu thought about it. “Okay. With Cousin Huiyu there, you’ll have someone to look out for you. But security can’t be relaxed. I’ll send a few bodyguards over.”
Yan Qingqi nodded, then suddenly said, “Send some clothes over for me and Songsong. I don’t have time to go shopping.”
“OK, a small task. No problem.”
Two more days passed. After close observation and various tests, Professor Chen assessed the risk as low, and Song Tingxue was transferred from the ICU to the VIP ward.
Yan Qingqi happily welcomed her wife into the VIP ward, for no other reason than that she could finally stay by her wife’s side.
“Songsong!”
“A-Yan!”
In the VIP ward, Yan Qingqi hugged Songsong tightly.
Songsong hugged her just as tightly. She felt that her A-Yan was back. The invisible barrier that had stood between them had suddenly disappeared, crumbled, and dissolved.
When the accident happened, she felt a sudden sharp pain in the back of her head, and her vision went black. Before she lost consciousness, Song Tingxue only thought, I can’t pick up A-Yan now. Will she be angry that I broke my word? Will she be mad at me?
Song Tingxue leaned on her shoulder, once again smelling the familiar, comforting scent of cedar. “A-Yan, I’m sorry. I couldn’t pick you up when you returned that day.”
“Silly. Why are you thinking about that? You were in this state. After such a huge accident, what is more important than your safety?”
Song Tingxue hugged her even tighter. She suddenly felt that her accident wasn’t entirely a bad thing. At least her A-Yan was back, and they were as close as they used to be.
“Did you finish your business in S City? Was the Qiao family happy with the engagement dinner you cooked?”
“It’s done. It was very smooth. How could they be unhappy with my cooking?”
Yan Qingqi separated slightly from Songsong, looking straight into her eyes, and said with utmost seriousness, “Songsong, I love you! I’m so happy to have you as my wife!”
Song Tingxue froze for a moment, then hugged her again. “Me too. A-Yan, I can’t tell you how happy I am to be your wife! It’s something I never even dared to dream about.”
Yan Qingqi felt like crying.
In the past, she might have been troubled, insecure, and depressed, wondering whether the “A-Yan” in Songsong’s mouth referred to her, Yan Qingqi, or Miss Yan.
But now, she knew that the name A-Yan had always referred to only one person: Miss Yan, who visited the orphanage.
The door creaked open from the outside.
Wen Huiyu walked in and saw the two embracing on the hospital bed, their eyes red with tears.
Wen Huiyu was now 100% certain they were in a relationship.
The two quickly separated. Yan Qingqi hastily wiped her tears and stood up to introduce them. “Songsong, this is Dr. Wen, my cousin.”
Song Tingxue was slightly stunned, a trace of confusion in her heart, wondering if she had misheard.
Then she heard Yan Qingqi introduce her to Wen Huiyu. “This is, Song…”
Wen Huiyu smiled, interrupting her. “Sister Shuyan, you don’t need to introduce her. I know her. Many people here know her. Who doesn’t know the big star Song Tingxue?”
Yan Qingqi smiled slightly. “Since you’ve all figured it out, I won’t bother with the introduction. Yes, she is the big star, Song Tingxue.”
Wen Huiyu checked Song Tingxue and said, “Sister Shuyan, don’t worry. Miss Song’s recovery is excellent. If everything goes smoothly, she can be discharged in a few more days.”
“Really? That’s great!”
“You still need to be careful with nursing. The patient shouldn’t go to the bathroom or shower alone. She also can’t wash her hair yet. She has to wait until the head wound is completely healed.”
“Okay, I’ll pay attention.”
Wen Huiyu urged the patient to rest well before leaving.
Once Wen Huiyu left, Yan Qingqi checked the time and asked, “Songsong, are you hungry? Should I make you some porridge?”
Song Tingxue looked at Yan Qingqi’s gentle smile, her lips moving, seemingly with many questions she wanted to ask.
“What’s wrong?” Yan Qingqi held her hand, her smile tender. “Tell me whatever you want to eat. It’s easy to cook here. We just can’t make smoky stir-fries.”
“I, I heard you say just now that Dr. Wen is your cousin?”
“Yes, she is my cousin. Her father is my father’s younger brother. How is she not my cousin?”
“Then, but,” Song Tingxue was uncertain, “if you are cousins, shouldn’t you and Dr. Wen both have the last name Yan?”
Song Tingxue expected Yan Qingqi to say that she took her mother’s surname or something similar. Instead, Yan Qingqi stood up and said, “I just remembered, I have something important to get. Wait for me.”
“Mhm.”
Yan Qingqi left. A little later, a nurse came in. She was probably the accompanying nurse.
She asked upon entering, “Miss Song, do you need anything?”
Song Tingxue shook her head. The young nurse sat down on the nearby sofa, the two of them looking at each other.
The nurse was clearly excited, her hands clasped tightly to her chest. Song Tingxue had seen too many fan reactions. It seemed the young nurse was also her fan.
“Hello, may I ask, what is the surname of the female doctor with the ponytail from earlier?”
The young nurse was excited to answer her idol’s question, eager to spill all the details.
“Her surname is Wen. Her name is Wen Huiyu. She’s an Alpha and Professor Chen’s star student. I also heard her family is very wealthy. Her mother is a wealthy socialite, covered in designer clothes and jewels. But Dr. Wen never talks about her family, so we don’t ask.”
Song Tingxue nodded, then asked, “My companion, do you know her?”
“Yes. Miss Yan. I heard Dr. Wen call her Sister Shuyan. She seems to be her cousin. I saw her bodyguards outside just now.”
Song Tingxue was startled. “Bodyguards?”
“Right outside the door, two of them. Aside from Professor Chen, Dr. Wen, me, and one of my colleagues, no one else is allowed into this VIP ward.”
“I’d like to ask, what happened while I was unconscious?”
The young nurse tilted her head and blinked. “Well, you were rushed in for emergency care. Professor Chen was supposed to be on vacation but came back personally to perform the surgery. The surgery lasted over three hours. Oh, and Luo Sisi was here too! I recognized her even with her mask on! So your relationship is really close!”
Song Tingxue was about to ask another question when the door to the ward made a squeaking sound, as if something was squeezing against it.
The young nurse heard it and went to open the door.
When the door opened, the young nurse looked out and her eyes widened. “You, Big, Big…”
A squeaky voice said, “Nurse sister, could you please step out for a moment?”
The young nurse said, “Oh, yes, of course.” Realizing what she was doing, she smiled and walked away.
The door opened fully, and a white, chubby figure walked in. Song Tingxue’s eyes went wide with shock. She sat up from the bed, staring in disbelief at the figure. “Baymax!”
“Hello there, I am Baymax. Pretty little Songxue, are you sick?”
Song Tingxue stared blankly at the lively, chubby Baymax. Suddenly, the corners of her mouth curled up into a smile. She smiled, and then hot tears welled up in her eyes.
Ten years.
Ten years had passed, and Baymax had returned.
Baymax raised a hand and reached toward her forehead, gently touching Song Tingxue’s hair with its chubby, clumsy hand. “Don’t cry, don’t cry. I’ll cast a little magic on you. You’ll be better soon, and the pain will go away.” The cute, squeaky voice was still there.
Song Tingxue lunged forward, tears flying from her eyes, and hugged Baymax’s chubby body.
“Miss Yan! Miss Yan! Have you finally come back to see me?!”
Yan Qingqi awkwardly removed the head of the costume, revealing her head and face, with a warm smile.
“I’m back, Songsong. Your Miss Yan is back by your side.”
“Mhm, mhm…” Song Tingxue hugged her tightly, tears streaming down her face. “Miss Yan, Miss Yan…”
Yan Qingqi gently patted her back. “Don’t get too excited, Songsong. Don’t cry now, don’t cry.”
Song Tingxue was like a child, happy, crying, smiling, and weeping all at once.
Ten years. The person she had longed for countless days and nights had finally returned to her side.
