After Becoming an Alpha Upon Meeting an Alpha - Chapter 8
Just as they reached the door of one household, they heard cries for help coming from inside. A girl with disabled legs was crawling with difficulty, trying to open the door, but because she could not stand, she could not reach the doorknob. She could only cry out for help in terror, hoping someone would come and lend a hand.
Behind her was an ugly insect. Its entire body was twisted, and foul-smelling saliva dripped from its sharp mouthparts. It had no intelligence, but its speed was very slow. It had probably just hatched and had no limbs, so it could only wriggle forward little by little.
After Su Cha heard the cry for help, she immediately rushed over, smashed the glass with one punch, and climbed in through the window.
The girl’s terrified cries were cut off. Just as the insect was about to bite the girl’s foot, Su Cha stepped on the basketball-sized insect body. The soft sensation beneath her foot made Su Cha frown in discomfort.
“Zerg?”
This was a newly hatched Zerg. Why would there be one here?
But this Zerg…
Su Cha carefully observed it and felt that this thing actually looked a little like a silkworm chrysalis, except enlarged and even uglier.
The Zerg beneath her foot kept twisting and even tried to raise its head to bite Su Cha’s leg. Su Cha’s expression darkened. She stomped down hard on the insect’s body again. With mental power strengthening that step, she crushed the Zerg’s soft yet tough shell.
“Hiss—!”
The Zerg let out a miserable shriek. Then the white pulp inside exploded everywhere, splattering all over the dazed girl. The girl blankly wiped the sticky white pulp from her face, her expression stunned.
This person… was so powerful.
She had never seen anyone who could kill a Zerg so easily. Even if it was only a newly hatched larva, its tough shell and sharp mouthparts were enough to make anyone panic at the sight of it.
Was this what a strong person was like?
Hope and worship lit up in the girl’s eyes. She also wanted to be like this person, stepping on one Zerg after another!
Su Cha lifted her foot in disgust. Looking at the mucus beneath it, she felt a little nauseated. Sure enough, once this thing became bigger, it was no longer as pleasing to the eye as it had been when she was little.
She turned to look at the girl frozen in place and asked, “Are you all right?”
“I’m… I’m fine.”
The girl looked at Su Cha shyly, her clear eyes full of admiration for her lifesaver. “You’re so amazing. I’ve never seen anyone as amazing as you. You’re not from our Water Blue Planet, are you?”
Su Cha blinked. “I am now.”
“Xiao Yun, are you all right?!”
A group of people rushed in carrying all kinds of weapons. The narrow house was immediately packed full of people. Everyone had hurried over to rescue her. When they saw Su Cha standing in the room, they had not yet reacted, and their faces instantly turned pale, thinking she was a newly evolved humanoid Zerg.
The uncle charging at the front with a homemade hoe had a face full of stubble. Even his voice trembled. “X-Xiao Yun?”
The girl called Xiao Yun was the girl with disabled legs. Her eyes shone brightly as she looked at the uncle and said happily, “Uncle Zhang!”
Seeing that Xiao Yun was fine, Zhang Long realized he had mistaken Su Cha for something else and immediately let out a breath of relief. “It’s good that you’re fine.”
“Thank you for saving Xiao Yun.”
Su Cha quickly waved her hands. “It’s nothing. I just happened to be nearby.”
Xiao Yun said, “This Sister is amazing! She crushed that larva with one stomp!”
Crushed a larva with one stomp?
Zhang Long looked at the dead larva beneath Su Cha’s foot and found it unbelievable. This kind of strength—was she really human?
“She’s an alpha, and her rank isn’t low.”
Just as Zhang Long could not understand it, a C-rank female alpha walked in from behind him. She had flamboyant short red hair and was holding a long gun. From the looks of it, the gun had been assembled by them, because in Su Cha’s limited memories, the military did not have firearms in this style.
Everyone fell silent. Was the power of an alpha really this strong?
The other party walked over openly and extended a hand to Su Cha. “Hello. I’m the captain of Water Blue Planet’s defense force. My name is Wendy Hornby. You can call me Wendy.”
Because Su Cha had acted decisively and prevented a tragedy from happening, Wendy admired her very much.
“Hello, I’m Su Cha.”
Su Cha thought for a moment and felt that this was a good opportunity to reveal her identity. She added, “I am this planet’s newest planet lord.”
Everyone: “?!!”
“Planet lord?!”
Every planet basically had an owner, except for the Imperial Capital Planet, because that was where the military and the Council of Elders were located. No one dared to say that it was theirs, and no one dared provoke the positions of the empire’s two great authorities.
Aside from the Imperial Capital Planet, every habitable planet with usable value basically had an owner. A planet like Water Blue Planet, which had no usable value, a small population, and not even a proper livable environment, was originally a semi-abandoned planet.
Although it was nominally attached to the empire, whether or not it had an owner depended on whether the person in charge was tough enough.
Su Cha’s sudden announcement left everyone, who had grown used to freedom, somewhat at a loss, even angry.
Wendy knew she could not defeat Su Cha, but that did not mean Su Cha could be so arrogant.
Anger colored her eyes, and her previous admiration for Su Cha vanished. “Do you know what you’re saying?”
Su Cha said, “I do.”
She pulled up the planet’s ownership certificate from her light brain. It bore the seal of the empire’s main system and the military’s transfer order.
In black and white, it clearly stated:
Planet Lord of Water Blue Planet — Su Cha.
Date of Appointment: Interstellar Calendar, Year 5328, April 17.
In other words, yesterday.
Wendy: “…”
Zhang Long: “…”
Everyone else: “…”
Everyone opened their mouths, wanting to say something more, but nothing came out. Because on it was the public seal of the main system, which could not be duplicated. If anyone attempted to copy it, they would immediately be discovered the moment it was used, followed by a galaxy-wide arrest warrant.
So this document was real. Su Cha really was the planet lord of Water Blue Planet.
A planet that had been free for more than a hundred years suddenly had an owner. No one could accept that, especially when the proof came from the empire that had never cared about them.
But if they refused to acknowledge that they belonged to the empire, then it would not be long before the empire sent troops to attack. Therefore, they had to recognize this proof.
“I didn’t expect that after more than a hundred years, the empire could still remember us. Heh.”
Although she was very angry, Wendy could not say anything.
The others also had strange expressions. They wanted to say something, but like Wendy, they could not speak.
What could they resist?
After all, even Wendy, the captain of the defense force, had silently accepted it. As betas who had not even differentiated, could they defeat Su Cha, whose rank was higher than Wendy’s?
Su Cha muttered, “Mm, it doesn’t really count as remembering. This was originally just given to me to get rid of me.”
When everyone heard her say that, they felt even more miserable.
What else could they do?
Su Cha said, “All right. Although I am the planet lord, I won’t force you to treat me in any particular way. As for taxes and such, the empire doesn’t remember this border planet anyway. Not only do we not need to pay taxes, we can even receive minimum living subsidies from the empire every year. So you don’t need to worry that I’ll force you to do anything.”
The minimum living subsidy was something every poor planet could request from the main system. However, there was one condition for receiving it: the planet lord had to submit the request to the main system, and this planet lord had to be an imperial citizen with legal imperial identification.
Moreover, if a planet without a planet lord suddenly gained one, and the main system confirmed that the planet was indeed inhabited and truly very poor, then the planet lord could apply to receive all the minimum living subsidies from the previous ten years when the planet had no lord. It could be paid in one lump sum and used to ensure the planet’s operation.
So even though these people had reached the qualifications to receive the minimum living subsidy, because none of them had imperial citizenship, they had no way to establish a planet lord themselves and could only remain poor.
But Su Cha was different. Even if she had been removed from the Su family, her status as an imperial citizen would still not change.
Unless she courted death by submitting a report to the main system to cancel her own identity, or became an interstellar pirate wanted by the main system, she could continue receiving the minimum living subsidy from the empire as a planet lord.
The words “minimum living subsidy” instantly attracted everyone’s attention. Wendy coughed lightly and said awkwardly, “You are a legal citizen of the empire, right?”
Su Cha held her head high. “Of course.”
“You can receive the minimum living subsidy from the empire for the past nearly ten years, right?”
“Mm-hmm.”
Wendy’s eyes gradually lit up. “You will… use it to build the planet and protect its people, right?”
Su Cha did not answer this. She did not want to support people who were not loyal to her. If she poured in a large amount of money only to raise a group of traitors, the loss would not be worth it.
Although this minimum living subsidy appeared to be for supporting the planet, it was actually more like a startup subsidy given to planet lords who went to those poor, remote border planets.
This subsidy was not given to the people on the planet. Instead, it was issued to the planet lord. The planet lord could use it however they wanted.
Otherwise, if it were meant for the people on the planet, the empire would not have strictly required the planet lord to apply for it, rather than allowing the people living on the planet to apply themselves.
As for the people on border planets, most of whom did not have light brains and whose status as imperial citizens was uncertain and fluid, the empire would not care whether they lived or died, because that would waste too much money.
When Wendy did not hear Su Cha answer, her eyes immediately dimmed. She had known it. Even the empire did not care about them, much less Su Cha, who came from the Imperial Capital Planet.
This money had always been for citizens with status like them. As imperial subjects without status, they had no right to speak at all.
The others also understood this reasoning, and one by one, they lowered their heads.
Seeing them look so dejected, Su Cha said, “Since I have become the planet lord, this money will naturally be used on the planet. All of you are people under my rule, so of course I will help you.”
Everyone raised their heads and looked at her, waiting for her next words.
“However, I will not help traitors. I hope you will be loyal to me, and loyal to and love this planet that belongs to us.”
Su Cha smilingly painted a grand, magnificent future for everyone. “Once this planet reaches the point where it can be officially recorded, I will personally issue Water Blue Planet citizen identity cards to you.”
This identity card was not something that could be issued whenever one wanted. The planet had to become a planet of value first before the planet lord could submit a planning rank application to the main system.
Only a planet that reached E-rank could be officially recorded. And only the planet lord of an officially recorded planet could issue identity cards to the people of that planet.
Only people with identity cards could apply for imperial citizenship proof. And only with proof of imperial citizenship could they receive the true protection of the empire.
Therefore, all of this was closely linked. Not a single part could be missing.
