After Becoming the Love-Brained Female Lead’s Best Friend - Chapter 33
When they arrived at the station, Cheng Cheng kept clinging to Fang Shu and refused to let go, repeatedly asking when she would come back next time. Fang Shu coaxed her, saying she would come back next time, then bought some snacks for her little cousin and had her uncle take her back.
By the time they returned to the apartment they rented, it was already past six in the evening. Ye Wanyin hesitated between unpacking first and cooking first, but Fang Shu made the final decision with a clap: “We’re ordering takeout.”
Before the takeout arrived, they tidied up their respective luggage. In truth, there was not much. Clothes and the like were sorted out and thrown into the washing machine. What remained were the zongzi, cakes, and other things Fang Shu’s aunt had stuffed into their luggage.
Ye Wanyin put all the zongzi into the fridge, then sat on the sofa with Fang Shu and waited for the takeout to arrive.
After eating and drinking their fill, Ye Wanyin looked at Fang Shu, who was lying sideways across the sofa. Having been squeezed to the edge with no place to sit, Ye Wanyin stood up and moved to the single sofa beside it.
Fang Shu, who had originally planned to naturally rest her head on Ye Wanyin’s thigh, paused in her movement. Then, as if nothing had happened, she naturally pushed herself a little farther forward and rested her head on the sofa armrest.
Ye Wanyin sat rather upright on the single sofa, as if she were thinking about something. Occasionally, she looked at Fang Shu with a tangled expression.
Fang Shu was already rather sensitive to gazes, not to mention she was now stretching her neck and tilting her head from time to time, looking as if she were searching for the best lying position. Catching Ye Wanyin’s movements from the corner of her eye, she finally could not help speaking. “Something on your mind?”
Ye Wanyin gave a long “mm,” then nodded. Thinking of what Aunt Lin had said in the morning, she pondered for a moment and asked, “Does our romantic relationship still count?”
Fang Shu did not answer the question. Instead, she asked, “What do you want to do?”
Ye Wanyin looked steadily at Fang Shu. “I’ll help you get into university.”
Fang Shu carefully observed Ye Wanyin’s expression and realized that the other girl was not merely saying it casually. Slightly surprised, she then asked very rationally, “Was your complaint rejected?”
Ye Wanyin shook her head. “The result hasn’t come yet.”
Fang Shu continued guessing. “Then did you discover that you still have to complete the mission, otherwise you can’t go home?”
Ye Wanyin finally realized what Fang Shu was thinking. She interrupted Fang Shu’s intention to keep guessing and said directly, “Before I leave, I want to help you improve your grades.”
Fang Shu: “Oh.”
Ye Wanyin could not figure out what she meant by that one word, so she asked tentatively, “So you agree?”
Fang Shu stretched lazily. “Sure.”
Before Ye Wanyin could feel relieved, she saw Fang Shu stand up from the sofa and walk in front of her. Looking down at her from above, Fang Shu said, “But what you meant just now was that we’ll still use the same method as before, maintaining a lover-style study arrangement, right?”
Ye Wanyin did not understand why she suddenly asked this. She hesitated, then nodded. After that, she added a patch. “But if you don’t want to, we don’t have to use this method.”
Fang Shu automatically ignored the latter half of her sentence and said to Ye Wanyin by herself, “Then I can still ask you to fulfill your obligations as my lover like before, right?”
Although the words were the same as before, Ye Wanyin somehow felt that the atmosphere now seemed different from before. She looked up at Fang Shu, and Fang Shu waited for her answer without any hurry. They stared at each other for about three minutes. In the end, Ye Wanyin was the first to lose. “In theory… yes.”
After all, she only had three months before she would leave. During this time, no matter what, as long as she could raise Fang Shu’s score a little more, it would count as a good thing.
Thinking of this, her gaze immediately became firm.
Fang Shu reached a consensus with her.
After the verbal promise was made, Fang Shu lay back down properly and opened her phone to watch videos. Ye Wanyin, meanwhile, sat on the single sofa somewhat out of sorts. After recovering, she suddenly remembered something and hurriedly went to her room to take out the notebook she had been updating these past few days. She handed it to Fang Shu. “Then why don’t you look at this first tonight?”
Fang Shu, who struggled to tear her gaze away from the video: “…”
…This damned familiar scene.
The next day, during English morning reading, Ye Wanyin asked Fang Shu about her progress. Fang Shu held up one hand to her. Ye Wanyin said in relief, “Five pages? Not bad.”
Fang Shu opened her somewhat tired eyes and shattered her fantasy. “Five questions.”
Ye Wanyin suspected she had heard wrong. In the past, although Fang Shu always had trouble grasping knowledge points clearly, she always started with at least two pages when doing questions. Add to that her last score, which had been pretty good compared to before, and Ye Wanyin felt it would not have been too strange if Fang Shu could do five pages.
What was strange was that Fang Shu had only done five questions.
Still holding onto a bit of hope, Ye Wanyin asked Fang Shu to hand the notebook over. As she flipped through it, she thought that perhaps Fang Shu had done five relatively difficult big questions.
That would make sense.
Then, when she turned to the new pages of notes she had written, she discovered…
They were questions Ye Wanyin had adapted from multiple-choice questions. There were steps written below them. Because they were relatively basic question types, it was clear that Fang Shu had worked them out by testing methods. Overall, the accuracy rate was quite high.
…It was just that there were only five questions.
Ye Wanyin felt like she needed oxygen.
She looked at the questions and asked Fang Shu, “You don’t know how to do these?”
Fang Shu yawned tiredly. “I’m tired.”
Alarm bells instantly rang in Ye Wanyin’s mind. After being jerked up and down by Fang Shu last time, her heart now seemed to have stepped into a shadow, jumping wildly.
Ye Wanyin could not help letting her voice hang in her throat. “What’s wrong?”
With a deadpan face, Fang Shu’s tired eyes stared at Ye Wanyin like dead fish. She said, “I did five questions.”
Ye Wanyin’s heart was still suspended. She hummed an “mm” through her nose.
Seeing that Ye Wanyin looked completely unenlightened, Fang Shu reminded her, “As my girlfriend, shouldn’t you do something?”
Ye Wanyin rapidly thought through the corresponding measure in her mind. At last, inspiration flashed. “I’ll take you to the suburbs to relax?”
Fang Shu: “…”
Fang Shu recalled the plot of the novel she had read last night in her mind, then looked at Ye Wanyin, this block of wood.
She determined that Ye Wanyin was undoubtedly an ironclad bottom.
